So I’ve heard people say beta users will be receiving a cape as a reward; however, I have also heard that being on the iOS 13 beta may take this opportunity away. Can someone explain this to me. When I connect with either the beta or the live version my Game Center appears to connect because it pops up at the top of the screen. I don’t need to worry about data transfer cause I wasn’t in the soft launch.

There is no iOS13 support for the game, so the recommended thing to do for now is to downgrade to a previous iOS version
That doesn’t mean you won’t get your reward if you don’t, but there’s no guarantee on iOS13
I think it should work if Game Center is tied to both beta and live version regardless though

There has been the idea of an option to transfer beta friends list to live that the team is looking into, but no one (not even TGC, I think) is totally sure if it's possible to do or when it might happen if it is.
The cape will be coming in about a week I think? A little less? They delayed giving it out so as many beta players as possible would have the chance to make a live account. Can't award a cape to players on live if they don't have a live account!

Honestly playing with some of these new players is so frustrating. Just as I about to get the season spirit in the wasteland a newbie let themself get caught by the dragon because they though they could out run it. And another led the darn thing straight at me so I got caught up in their wake.

I feel you, @dark badger. The season quests in general don't quite hit the mark because you can actually be punished by trying to work with others. It can be nice to have someone looking out to grab the spirit once it's dropped, but that's probably near impossible to coordinate with strangers. I wish that more players guiding the spirit made it move slightly faster or something to help compensate for the fact that you have to operate as a hivemind.

@viscid dragon exactly how I feel. Especially since the seasonal spirit for the wasteland either requires teamwork or perfect timing. Lucky the two people who asked for help in the seasonal chat followed my lead like I had asked so we were all able to get it. I was also lucky enough to get back the stars the other person cost me since they all ended up being in the same area.

Originally it was supposed to work that more people carrying a spirit let you go faster. I'm not sure if I noticed a difference though (in live) between just me carrying a spirit and three or four people.

It's entirely possible I wasn't paying close enough attention, but it certainly didn't feel any faster

I think the player who activated the spirit orb should be the only one who can carry it (unless they drop it in which case someone else can pick it up and then it’s theirs), rather than everyone sharing one simultaneously. Cooperation works better when players aren’t competing with each other for control. Others could chirp when it’s safe to go, show the carrier where to hide, distract krill, save the orb if it’s dropped, etc.

Many of current game features are not multi-player friendly, such as gates, such as matchmaking (more specifically, you’re too far from your friends you get separated, and once your friends are out strangers immediately fill up the map), more players in your sight the slower the game performs. Also many other things relating to cooperation: quest, prairie bell towers, 8 kids group is too long for farming

I'm not sure there's a way to stop players from friending each other just to exchange hearts. And I think most players who share invites here are doing it more from a "I like these Discord people, let's exchange hearts with these new friends" perspective than anything. Not ideal, but not hurting anyone.

I wouldn’t worry about people friending others just for hearts or blessings. Since you can only get so much wax a day, you can only give a heart to a few people, not the whole constellation, so others will have the same restriction and it will limit how many you get as well.
I mostly give hearts based on who plays with me that day. If someone goes running with me for a decent amount of time, they’re likely to get a heart. If no one does, I usually give one to a favorited friend who is likely to give one back.

TGC has said there is a possibility for friends from beta to get transferred to live but there is no announcement yet. You can’t choose your name as people who add you give you a name, but you can tell them your name ^^

The pressure is a choice though. People can freely choose to make hearts transactional, or they can try playing altruistically. In gaming, a lot of players will take a gamer approach, thinking that they should 100% the game by unlocking all collectibles as fast as possible. There’s room for those players, as well as room for those who chose a different focus.
Hearts definitely are one of the core mechanics for player retention, and if there are people finding multiple approaches to gaining them, then it could be a sign they’re working very effectively.
My anecdote on Sky giving for the day: I gained 8 hearts today: 1 from a message candle, 1 from a stranger I helped through the vault seasonal quest, 2 I purchased in emote menus, and 4 from individual friends. I was one heart away from buying the table and said so, and a friend pulled me over the finish line. Zero were arranged exchanges.

I already got chair, a score, two instruments and 10 hearts in my pocket but, of course we have choices for how to play the game, however, I consider encouraging players to play altruistically will be the most outstanding features of this game. Otherwise what make this game different? As a Skyland where everyone can play? Its gorgeous art design? You can choose to play altruistically even in a game that meant to kill each other, what’s special about making heart as a currency in Sky?

@empty inlet it's not the hearts that are special, you're right. no currency can specially encourage altruism. The design is clear in that you can't obtain it yourself, and you must rely on others. but as we've seen, greed can still be part of that equation. So the design of the game has to be an important factor. A beautiful place with cooperative goals and as few sources of interpersonal conflict as possible. But part of it has to be the players, so for my part I'll keep trying to be friendly, helpful, kind when people are receptive to it.

You can't only obtain hearts by yourself all the time could be a motivation to be altruistic, but currently many of those design that make you help others could let both have a hard time. Can't expect all players to know how to best cooperate, to know what can cause trouble (for example, the unclear design of the 8-people engine in Prairie, new players don't know what is it, what it can do, or how players can achieve the goal together). Personally I don't feel like helping strangers when I have my goal, while I'm 100% willing to offer helps whatever others need (except for quest like getting seasonal emote in wasteland). Ideally, people could help others along their way to achieve their goal (seasonal emote quest in valley is doing so).
On the other hand, helping others, especially strangers, you're not hoping there will be a reward, makes it totally a personal choice and have less to do with the game design. Under this situation, the design of you mainly obtain hearts from others becomes less efficient, encouraging players to build deeper relationship with serval friends, usually less than 10, and helping others and gain friendship become less important.
If these are not designed to be like this, then we should expect more improvements focusing on how the game could convey its core concept, and possibly we can make suggestions after realizing it. Help make the game become what devs want it to be (at least we can learn plenty of their idea from their interviews) is the whole point of taking part in the beta test.

Being connected to Game Center is enough up until iOS12. On iOS13 there is a new feature in-game added on the last update to transfer your account but some people have reported problems while using it

I personally think the new barrier at the 2-person door to 8land is a positive change
It’s okay if you think otherwise, but that shouldn’t make you feel like our opinions and suggestions are neglected by the team ^^
If you think the change impacts the game negatively, I’d suggest writing about it in #wishlist-and-ideas-archived so the team can see it, as they don’t keep up with the chat channels

After following all the confusion brand new players have had with the 8gate door and especially in Oreoland, I’m hopeful that this barrier can keep people from getting needlessly frustrated and overly focused on two parts of the game that are ultimately optional and just for fun.

@hybrid wedge yeah, I suspect that's why it's there. I just think the barriers are ugly and unnecessary. They cut off the flow of the gameplay and serve no real purpose.
There must be other ways of letting players know they need one thing to do the second thing.
I suppose one could also argue that there is no reason to have an 8-player lock in the first place, unless there is a substantial reward behind it. 😉
It stands to reason that most players will think that the more people required, the more you will get for managing to complete the task.
The posts I have seen that were negative about this area all seem to focus on the disappointment of what happens, rather than frustration of getting 8 people to cooperate.

A gentle barrier I wouldn't be opposed to, but I think part of the 8gate fun is the mystery. The excitement! I remember being a new player full of awe, the 8gate was a special secret I wanted more than anything to unravel. I tried multiple times, over and over, to gather a group.

I guess ports are from console/PC to mobile and vice versa, but Android and iOS are considered as "Mobile platform". But still what you've said is true

Technically, android and iOS are different operating systems, hardware configurations, and much else, so “port” could be a perfectly accurate description of adapting from the native environment to something else... but we don’t know what kind of codebase they’ve used or what the process is actually like. I guess when people hear “port” they associate that with old games being adapted by a separate studio when the original is out of print. Like how Journey was just ported to PC.

Last night I dreamed I was checking out the 8gate room in beta. I still couldn't get the door open, so I used a big can opener to cut a hole in the wall next to it and then was in a cave. I could see the 8gate from there. Also there was a tree full of moths and the moths were laying axolotl eggs, so I decided to dig out the 8gate room Minecraft style to start an axolotl farm.

@solid horizon I don’t think they’ve addressed that specifically but I imagine that they would need beta testers for Android as well when they are ready to release a beta for it. I don’t use android so I’m not 100% on whether or not they’d have to do this on a whole different testing app or what. However they did open testing for Mac IOS somewhat separately for current testers awhile back so history is in your favor.

I've changed the nickname of my game center account and the "report bug" buttons are greyed out now.
Update: It seems the issues I was experiencing has been resolved by themselves. It might simply be a temporary sync issue.

Hmm, I only just realized Game Center was turned off (until recently) while I was playing Beta (would just log in through TestFlight). Game Center gives a little popup when I play Sky(Live), but nothing happens when I open Sky(Beta). Is this a problem?

Sent an email to support but I'll ask about it here as well. I was accepted into the beta way back in January 2018 on a previous email of mine. Unfortunately, I accidentally deleted that email account just earlier this year. I signed up for the newsletter again to receive another beta invite (as instructed to do via email with TGC support) in early June of this year, but I never received the email. I see now that beta testers will be receiving a beta cape (not to mention the beta will still be used to test new patches), so is there any way for me to get back into the beta so I don't miss out on this?

@burnt ember I can totally understand that you want the cape. On June 8, the beta was reset and to re-join or join for the first time was done via a link provided here in the #beta-announcements. That link got was apparently widely copied and the 7000 beta slots filled very quickly. The beta might open again at some point, but cape gift is for those in the beta prior to the live launch (and other criteria as noted in #beta-announcements). I think only TGC Support can give you an official answer about your eligibility.

I definitely passed the forest in the test version I played before, and have used the same Game Center account all this time, so with that in mind I would think I’d qualify for the cape as is, but my worry is that either that was too early to properly document/store that data, or that this must be done on the current beta.

Okay so apparently I have had a mail from thatgamecompany since June 9th, featuring iOS Beta Access. Scrolling further down the mail there was a button saying ”Access Sky iOS Beta” after I pressed the button I got a linked to download Testflight. After I had downloaded Testflight I opened the app and downloaded Sky Beta (Version 0.5.7) and started playing a little bit.

@dire rover TGC ran the Season of Gratitude after the reset, so many beta players have at least a few of the items from it. These are not synched with the live version because beta and live are completely separate.
That is, the progress of your Sky kid in beta is completely separate from the progress of your Sky kid in live.

If you finished forest before live launched on July 18th, yes, it should count.
I was kinda thinking they’d set restrictions like a minimum average number of bug reports a week during the time you played beta, because a LOT of people didn’t actually seem interested in testing. They just wanted to play early.

@high ember what do you mean by "bug reports"? I don't think I ever used the in game reporting function much. I mainly posted on FB, because the things I found often needed videos and photos a like.

Well, the reset was only for currency, so if you weren’t kicked out then you should be fine.

Game Center runs through IOS which is in itself, a program running OSX and can be used to upload progress of a game playable on Mac. I’m not 100% sure it will be cross compatible but it’s highly likely

but it's difficult to find help even for a 2-player door unless you decide on a meet-up beforehand

it is nice, but like someone else said (maybe on FB?), they could have perhaps focused on something else that was more urgent
such as the Prairie issue in the tower area, because it is much more annoying for many players
Forest just takes a long time when you're standing in the towers, but doesn't bother other players around you

Was also told that, if for whatever reason I don't receive the beta cape upon its release, to send another support ticket to "discuss further," so if you don't get the cape when it comes out but qualify (got past the Forest in the beta before the game's live launch, used the same Game Center account for the beta and the live game) send a ticket to them

Does anybody know how they were able to reduce the storage volume of the app from nearly 200mb to just 20mb with the new update :0 I heard that iOS 13 (which I’m using) will allow developers to reduce app size but didn’t expect this much 🤔

If you have not played since update, you haven't downloaded level data. If your device is low on storage then level data can also be removed automatically to save space.

Apps that have updated have a blue dot next to the name and apps downloaded from TestFlight have a yellow dot next to the name, but your wallpaper can change the color

probably true, but this is fantasy stuff. the beta reward is set and isn't changing. If I could demand an outrageous beta reward, what it would be is something that beta players can give out in unlimited number, but can never directly possess. Take the "giving" theme to the max.
