@tawny scroll Journey is a wonderful game, and definitely worth the normal price of five dollars, let alone the sale price. There are a lot of similarities between the two games, but the experience they evoke can be quite different. If you have the opportunity to buy it, I would recommend it

@iron ingot yes, the game is supposed to be replay-able. Much like Sky you “grow stronger” in the form of being able to get a ||white robe|| when you find all the pieces that grows your scarf. There’s a set total in-game. Also, it’s generally really nice to play through multiple times

I tried out Flower on iOS out of curiosity and liked it a lot; such a beautiful and relaxing experience
For those who are curious here is some smooth 1080p 60 gameplay
Basically, you are the wind, you approach flowers and collect petals from them and bring vibrant colors to otherwise dead black-and-white fields to unlock new areas in the game (each represented with a flower in your house)
The tilt controls are very easy to grasp: you press on the screen to gain speed, then tilt to self/from self to move down/up and tilt left/right to move in the corresponding directions - makes the gameplay very smooth. All in gorgeously smooth 60 frames per second.
If someone was curious, I’d recommend to try it out
there is no text or dialogue in the game, no difficulty or challenge; all the game is doing is evoking positive emotions in the players via visual representations of the grass, the flowers and the wind

@tardy ocean on iOS, I don’t think you can add other people as friends - you just randomly meet them in the desert, make some sounds to each other or maybe help each other out, and then they disappear or you go offline and you don’t meet each other again (on mobile).

In Sky you need coordination to open two- or four- player doors to save some spirits or for ||help in Eden|| or and it adds to the fun, like playing instruments or ||visiting the office until January 2nd||. And although I am no expert in Journey, from my gameplay I believe that that game is supposed to be singleplayer mostly, as (in my opinion) there are no “puzzles” you can’t solve by yourself. And you can’t even properly communicate with them, so other players are just other travelers you meet on your journey.

I played it on ps4... I would love to revisit it. That’s why I immediately jumped when I saw sky- before I even read it was from the same people I saw the mountain and was like- WAIT A SECOND
Also the vault of knowledge reminded me immediately of the temple level in journey, where the fluid rose until you got to the top and there were bigger flag creatures

Not sure what setup you're using, AppUnwrapper, but you can definitely connect a PS4 controller to your iOS device and then use Airplay to mirror to your Apple TV. It works great.

but if you mean lag/frame drop/frame freeze by “stuttering” then yes, that can happen sometimes when the phone overheats on a long gaming session or when you’re charging
I haven't had that happen on my iPad. Does restarting help?

Forgot to reply here but my phone wasn’t overheating or charging. I had literally just started up the app and it would like... “ buffer” or “freeze” with the movements. Like it was struggling to run.
And right on startup the audio was crackling on the menu sceen and in game.
It ultimately froze and I couldn’t do anything. Just closed it and played sky.
Kinda disappointed since i paid for it

The lightning reflection on the sand looks worse as a result
And there's a bug regarding audio in the PC version of Journey
That prevents soundtrack from opening at full volume
Normally that's a non issue
But try playing the sand racing stage
It's completely different without the soundtrack blasting at max volume at the start
Kinda kills the game on PC for me personally, also EGS exclusiveness means not a lot of people buy it -> no one to play with. I've gone through 2 journeys where I didn't meet a single soul...

The sands on PS4 lacks texture comparing the the jawdropping reflection on the PS3 sands. And the PC port is straight from the PS4 build

@cunning sail yeah I noticed on some other playthru of mine there's 2 or 3 names who show up in the end credit but I never managed to find them. The white bar indicating player rarely shows up >.>
And even when it does it only show up for a short amount of time before disappearing, sort of like they connected to my client and then disconnected instantly. It's nowhere as stable as playing on PSN

You dont know the names of the people playing with you until you beat the game and there's no add function.
And yeah that's how you do it
There are a few methods of doing it as well
The first coop level features a bridge in pieces for example
The game will sync depending on the status of that bridge so like
If two people have the third piece fixed, the game will look for players who also only have the third piece fixed and sync them

There is (or was anyway) an issue with the camera when I downloaded for iOS. If you swiped to pan round it would keep going for a lot longer than you want. But a fiddle in the settings sorted that. I think it was a simple google search solution that fixed that for me.

Whoever said that needs a special role that bans them from this channel!!! One thing I loved about Journey's graphics at the time, and still love is that it's a complete aesthetic that doesn't feel like it's limited by the medium. I think Journey as a work of visual art will hold up just as well in 40 years.

OOB is perfectly do-able in IOS. you’ve just gotta know where and how. I don’t know where and how but I was taken on a whistle-stop tour of some OOB a while back.
As is all the fancy flying etc if you use a controller. Again, I don’t know how yet but I’m reliably informed. 😂

@still gate The App Store version history added Controller support 3 months ago with version Journey iOS 1.01. There are lots of iOS games with which you can use a controller.

Like a regular bluetooth device. You go to device settings > bluetooth > press the button on the controller that sets it in pairing mode > find the device on the bluetooth list

I can't recommend that many controllers because I'm only using the DS4 (Playstation 4 controller) and it works flawlessly! It's good for both Journey and Sky!!

@tawny scroll Thanks for that, Dúnedain. 🙂 After posting, I took a look at version history and noticed that on Journey. Nice! Lack of controller support could’ve even been a dealbreaker (or at least a disincentive) for Sky on my iPad. So, Journey was totally out until I heard this good news. 😁

I've started playing Sky since the beginning of this year and it was partly because I was able to link my Xbox 1 controller and it worked flawlessly (almost)! The camera gives you hard life sometimes and to burn big plants is a bit of a pain ( I use controller and touch screen at the same time), but for navigation and flying mechanic it's just wonderful. I doubt I would be playing it now if it wasn't for the controller support, so thank you for that!
I personally don't like, don't play mobile games because of the controls, so I was very surprised that I enjoyed Sky that much! 💚

You can meet other players in all levels except Paradise. A good place to try is a little distance away from each entrance, and don't light anything in the level while you wait.

I looked at that list and I swore there was another game, I looked it up and started looking into it, its wikipedia page says (paraphrased) "TGC considered making Cloud into a commercial game", I wonder if they'd say that Sky is kind of like a successor to Cloud? I know the premise is different, but the feeling of freedom seems to still be there

I wanted to combine all the games that we've made, and the lessons we've learned, going back to Cloud, which I made in school on a PC - [like Sky] that game is about flying in the clouds. So I wanted to make a new game that had all the good parts of the others. Originally, Sky was actually supposed to be Cloud's sequel. But then as we made it, we realised there were so many things from Flower, Flow and Journey that we wanted to influence it. And so as a result, it's more like a spiritual sequel of Flower, Journey and Cloud.

It’s a multiplayer game, as well as a solo game. All depends if you get a companion or not. You can only play with one other and the matching is usually random
