I’m drawing this piece for my friend.. but I’ve never drawn characters at such a small scale. I’m having a hard time trying to make the Sky kids fit in with the environment, but still look bright and noticeable without them sticking TOO much out like a sore thumb

I’d also make the vibrant colors pop off onto their surroundings, like in the photo.

There’s also just trying to keep the balance in values. As long as you keep the amount of light things equal to dark.. things, they won’t pop out too much. Like obviously, if you have a single bright thing in a completely dark environment, it’s gonna pop out like a sore thumb. The bright and vivid colors of their capes are already gonna help with making them noticeable, you’ve just gotta find harmony with the values.

The reason why your eyes aren’t being immediately drawn to the kids in Pines’ art, is because they’re not the center focus, the winged light is. They’re secondary to that, thanks to their contrasting colors.
