custom/source uses the actual image as a template
if you try to use dotted on the template, your browser has to take the template image, resize it, and then give it a new style. This can break the template completely sometimes

according to a pxls dev

Webgl has maximum texture dimensions it can handle based in your gpu and it will crop/scale down if you hit those. Usually this produces a warning in the browser console. It would be nice to detect this since I believe it does advertise the limits but people run into it infrequently.

the reason you may hit this limit is cause the style image (or well, the template image, aka the thing you use to see what colour you need to place) can hit monstrous sizes of many tens of millions of pixels. Not everyone can handle that

if the style is baked into the image (aka what the pxls-global template does), its easier on your browser to render, which is why source style works

on smaller templates, the conversion isn't as demanding, which is why numbers style (or any custom style, really) works on https://pixel.cjmaxik.com/cerber :3
