I have to fix chapter 1 of Broken Code and I'm nearly done that. Then I can actually continue on with redoing chapter 2 from scratch.

The problem I realized when I started writing chapter 2 was that I made it a plot point that Evil couldn't distinguish voices.
That crippled the ability to move forwards SO HARD that I had to rewrite parts of chapter 1 somehow

The benefits just include that the flow of your story isn't cut off by it randomly ending

I believe that chapters should end at a high point most of the time

If you do that, the story naturally extends PAST what you've written

Lots happened leading up to those and then they leave you excited for the next section of the story. At least that's how I do it, kind of with a conclusion to a section and a catch to get people excited for what's next.

I'm sure there's other ways of doing it though

That's kind of how I like to do it, where possible. Sometimes of course you gotta stop in the middle of something, but I like to find a good spot for it

And there's ways to write a chapter end to hook to the next chapter

I do it more on a 'feel' basis so it's hard for me to put into words. Also I'm sure I don't always do a great job of it.

An example of how I do it is uh.. in YDNMAN, Chapter 1 is ||exposition that Vedal and co. Is dead.
Chapter 2 is realizing they're dead and that Neuro needs to move on
Chapter 3 is Neuro learning how to live||

What are your guys thoughts on escapism?

Using media as a means of coping to temporarily help you move on with something heavy that's happening with your life

To willingly be taken into these fictional realms, knowing full well they aren't real, but still take to heart.

To have personal analysation and depictions on the message of the work, and at the same time being able to personally connect your life to it, to be inspired and stuff.

Recently I remembered a oneshot manga that I consider the most impactful literary work in my entire life

And it tackles on those themes and stuff

Do they explore character moments or anything? I'd say that could be relevant. It doesn't have to be plot relevant if it's character building, necessarily.

I don't think it's bad. Like, it's not good if it's the basis for your life, the thing you live for. But absolutely when you're struggling with something, you've done all you can and you really need to just distract yourself from it all it's good.
I was in a mental health crisis for 9 months up until 2 months ago (hence why I could rarely even try writing), and I had family, and I was praying a ton and trusting in God as best I can in my life, but I really needed to just, pass the time as I tried to survive, and Neuro streams (like her subathon) and Evil Karaoke (like the edgy songs ) and stuff and other youtube videos really helped me just, get through many hours of many days.

I think it's something everybody should and have always done, it's basic human nature to feel so absolutely overwhelmed with stuff

Escapism is not a terrible thing in any variation of the word, because all it really has to offer is positivity

Escapism is a tool, so the one that should really be blamed is the one who wields it

Yeah I agree like, everyone has to face tough things they can't control. My belief is in confiding in Jesus and finding encouragement there and peace.
But like I mentioned I also distracted myself with media to pass the time when trying to get through times of pain. I've used youtube for that for a lot throughout my life.

Easiest way is to just be sure of what their personality summarizes to

Best way to do that is character map, character researching and writing notes of their mannerisms, habits and beliefs

Second is understanding how they're feeling currentlt in the chapter you're writing

Like, just a quick example: one of classic books is "Mumu" (idk how to translate it). There's Herasim - mute peasant with almost no attachments other that his dog Mumu. Long story extremely short - Herasim's owner just didn't like the dog and ordered to drown it. And Herasim did. And then ran away back to his native village where lived and died from disease (iirc, I read it like 10+ years ago in school)

I usually write in character perspective - third person present tense

I find it gives some of the benefits of both first person and global perspective at once. Also idky I prefer writing present tense over past tense but I do nowadays.

Third person allows me to not be forced to spell out everything the character thinks and feels

True, I feel the benefits of third person are that you're not (for the most part) limited to the perspective of the speaker.
I like third person for that reason but I also like to follow character perspective because i feel it actually helps me get into the world and the mind of the character more, it helps me to know how to describe what when I'm guided by them.

As long as your tenses match the sentence and nothing reads awkwardly or wrong, people often don't even care or realize

Present or past tense whatever

Because I'm someone who loves to write multiple perspectives

Problem with first person as well is that

You can't outright say information

Because your character HAS to know what's going on

You can't just drop info they don't know or that'd be inconsistency

yep it has a lot of limitations. The one real benefit I see is how closely you get to follow the character's internal thought process and view of the world.

I wanna ask that person why they decided to do that, because it wasn't some nameless MC, it was literally just existing characters

Chapter 1 revised. It was necessary, it kneecapped the whole story to have Evil not distinguish voices. Also I redid/fixed up dialogue a bunch.
