I've heard a bit about solidworks but I've never looked into it. It's pretty good for 3d printing models from what ive heard since everything is to scale

so is every cad program. the difference between something like blender and cad is that blender use wire mesh modeling whilst cad uses mathematical modeling (every geometry can be mathematically described)
also the reason you want to use cad is not just the modeling (solidworks is really overkill for simple 3d modeling) its the simulation and generative aspect that is the atractive part about high end cad programs
