The truth is, thare will always be someone better. I think the right thing to do is to compare yourself to your past self and take satisfaction in that
and if you feel like you don't improve, try everytime to focus more on one little thing that you think needs it the most, or maybe something you've noticed someone else does the way you like more and try to replicate that
that way, bit by bit, you'll eventually improve

I also want to add that you shouldn't be sad if your work doesn't get as much feedback as you expected. Ideally you shouldn't expect it at all and paint purely for yourself imo

Fun fact, since I draw head to toe when I am not working with a sketch layer, I ended up noticing that "Whoops. theres no way I can fix the skirt to cover this." so I have her sitting on a gymbag now. I have attempted to draw Neuro every day (with very few exceptions) since the start of the year. I initially had no experience whatsoever in art. My current skill level is what I have been able to push myself towards in the six months I’ve been drawing every single day.

Just put a bit on a canvas. Get SOMETHING drawn everyday. Improve but never burn out since I’m working at my own pace.
It’s not really about dedication, I don’t think. I’m pretty lazy and bad at committing to stuff. But if I tell myself I can do as little or as much as I want every day out of a task, I eventually fall into a routine that I’m comfortable continuing.
At the end of the day, I have improved on art because I want to improve myself. Personally speaking, I have never been good at most tasks, but I think art is something I want to pursue for myself even past this year of daily Neuros

Remember! It doesn’t need to be detailed! If you can only get a sketch done one day that’s still a drawing of Neuro!
The most important note when doing something like this is to never do so much that you start dreading the next day of drawing. Do what you’re comfortable with, set the time you would be comfortable working on one of these. Maybe set a hard cap for how long it takes you to make something!
Burnout sucks, so taking it casual is the way to go!
