so fleece cap and tight beanies follow headshape

starting from their set line

but he uses a construction method suitable for realistic characters for constructing his characters

so if you wanna use it for anime go ahead, if you wanna use it for realistic and you can make it work, go ahead

i dont typically use the standard anime construction cuz fuck drawing circles

plus spheres dont help you with orientation

because theyre young, they dont have adult proportions

these are 3 styles that are pretty famous so i brought them up

my usual style is different too

you dont have to do head construction all the time either but for beginners it tends to help them get a feel for drawing 3d objects

now that you understand the concepts you can practice it, and when youre comfy you could try construction methods with more detail and different styles
and try hitting lock alpha on ur drawing software and using colour to detail the hair

there are some artists who paint entirely by blocking in

never realized that until now why they did that

blocking in helps with stuff that sucks to draw based on contrast lines

things dont have lineart irl so most things drawn are based on where there are lines of construction or lines of contrast in lighting

blocking in, helps for when things are volumes

as opposed to structures

its easier to block in a cloud or a tree than it is to draw them

based on lines

i grab a thick brush and go by volume

if you can understand how they work by volume, its way easier to represent with lines

clouds force you to practice this well because they have VERY poorly defined edges and lines dont do them justice

until you understand them as volumes, they tend to look awful depicted as lines

i mostly do volumes for clouds as i paint them

and you might realise here, that im only even painting the bright sides of the clouds and letting the sky be the shadowed part of the clouds cuz thats how skies and clouds blend irl, clouds have something called subsurface scattering and light distributes weirdly though them

so in the drawing above, i dont give the clouds solid bottom lines

there there typically isnt that much contrast for the dark side of a cloud

This is a very interesting point in my own case, I've first started with graphic design where I've had to learn color theory and composition. Soon I moved onto photography, learning about perspective and lighting. Now that I'm attempting to move into physical/digital art I've having to replicate for myself everything I've learned. I am struggling with it of course, but I've also learned why certain things work.

i went from painting, to digital illustration, to photography

and various other types of art

they all supplement ecah other remarkably well

active elements like tracer effects and actively blowing off chunks of cover helps get the idea across

you can see impacts from cannonballs on the water and the rear of one of the ships

I still can't believe how much it helps. I still put my previous skills to the test, granted I am a bit rusty due to shifting to programming for an extended period of time. That is an interesting key I have, learning how certain things work and even taking a bit of inspiration from the chaos.

I tend to push it to 300% (110% isn't even a valid statistic for how much they are used in my exploratory art) I do tend to have fun but they look kinda garbage most of the time.

you should try softwares like darktable, lightroom, or the LR section of photoshop

playing with the values about your painting helps a lot with toning in the colours you actually want

For a long time I've used PS. Switched over to GIMP for personal reasons. Kirta looks like something to keep in mind if I get a bit more serious with drawing in particular.

you know how when you plot y=2x on a graph it produces a line?

if you plot y=2x { 1 < x < 2 } you can have a very short line

if you plot y=4x^2 you can have a curvy line

vector art is the plots to a LOT of graphs to produce an image

Did you make the blood so thick on purpose? If not, you can wipe it off a bit in some places, so that the colour of the skin appears for example. And also the blood always flows downwards, and you've got it flowing sideways in some places

you can see his entire right arm has a thin layer of blood smeared all over it

blood also reflects reasonably diffusively compared to water

so instead of a glossy reflection you get bright matte reflections

its gonna be reasonably bright too, fresh blood is pretty bright

I draw in photoshop but surely the same functions are available in other programs. I create a new layer and set the overlay mode, then make the fill 50% gray, then choose color or monochrome noise filter and after that just change the transparency, it's very convenient in my opinion
