my idea for tutel isn't a fish, rather a turtle that just stands on the bottom floor... it would emit two types of sound ambient: random vedal quotes, and each vedal would have like 33% chance of reacting to a new sub
(anyway fish or quadruped doesn't matter, they can do this either way)
the sub audio lines would be, and i would have to find these myself, all the times where vedal tries to thank a sub but he's in the middle of something, so it comes off as insincere even though it's not 
and then there would be the cooking lines, which would all be "tutel sounds"
and it would give water, so we force him to cook himself in series like he did to ermfish last time
also i agree with alex, the ermshark ambient sounds should just be weird evil laughters... it worked so well last stream, she was actually a bit spooky

One thing I have to mention: the subnautica prefabs need to follow a specific format:
Prefab
\- Collider child
\- Model gameobject 1...
|- Model gameobject 2...
|- Etc
So the main prefab gameobject should have no components and should have one single child with only a collider
If the prefab has both a world model and a view model (like the ermfish), it needs to have 2 collider children each with their own collider
You can look at the other prefabs and see how they are setup to get an idea

Does anyone else get bad fps with this mod? I’m getting anywhere from 10 to 20 fps. My gpu is an RTX 2070 and core i7 cpu

Does anyone just have fps issues in general with this game? Without the mod I get a max of 50 fps. Fluctuating around 40 to 50
I've played it in VR a few times and that really exposes its lack of optimization... timewarp kicks in often... so yes, it's irregular with framerate
I thought it was better before the major update.
I have similar hardware, on a laptop. I'm only getting 10-20 fps while streaming. If not streaming I have around 50-60
That being said, it might indeed be due to the huge swarms of ermfish
And I have no idea why they are spawning like that

Even if ermsharks duplicate when hit by something, when reloading the save they revert back
So an ermshark can duplicate up to 4 times, meaning that one ermshark can spawn up to.... uhhhhh.... 32 clones

But still when the save is reloaded all children ermshark disappear and are replaced by the singular ermshark instance that spawned all of them

if you watch the vod, i noticed something: on two occasions when he goes to the creepvines he encounters much smaller ermsharks. he even says at one point "look at these baby ermsharks they're so agile" (not realizing the game doesn't do baby creatures lol)
i think the sharks are taking damage somewhere and splitting without the player doing anything
and in the cyclops scene where they're popping like fireworks, it's only the full size ones getting killed, so it's full of 75% sharks, which is really hard to differentiate from the full size ones
i don't think it's broken, rather it's just working incredibly effectively (the only possible problem is when the duplicates spawn they spawn into one another which causes damage and thus another split, but i don't recall creature-to-creature impacts doing damage)

a way to prevent excessive prolifeation would be to limit the split effect to the player... if an enemy kills it, it should just die

Also I think simply making the erm sharks being ignored by other creatures would reduce the issue aswell (if that isn't applied already, I don't remember)
i'll assume you don't have C# build tools and can't build from the repository - for now you can reset all the creatures in the world if you go to your subnautica install folder then SNAppData > SavedGames > slot000x and delete/rename the CellsCache folder

so it's not what caused the 200 ermfish but it definitely contributed to the ermshark issue
i opened the inspector in my save and saw 8 respawners, all ermsharks
and then its a huge problem
I mean in theory you could kill it, would just be annoying to deal with

but from what orangerobot just saw it looks like predators have been multiplying the sharks
+ermshark attacks other predators
so it goes to a predator, gets multiplied then escapes and spreads out
in your screenshot it looks like ermsharks are attacking ermsharks, again (saw similar with vedal's game)
not supposed to be possible but the green damage splashes are everywhere
and only baby ermsharks are being attacked by their own kind
so if you have at least 2 erm sharks and some other predator you have 64 erm babies on your hands

It also likes to hug the cyclops (probably due to trying to attack it but being unable to)
ramming them is a really bad idea lol

it still counts as collision damage
and multiplies the shark

@bitter viper (Nvm me i had a nautilus conflict, this is solved, check lower for progress video) if you're around for a sec, i actually forked the repo and comitted my "tutel" creature (it's literally using the ermfish model till i mess with assets, and it's copied from the ermfish code-wise) and then i noticed that oddly it's not cookable, so i thought i made a bad... but then i recloned the original repo and built that and strangely, the ermfish is also not cookable

@bitter viper I made a pull request. I added placeholder art for the PDA and the unlock (which is wrong in this vid). It does now have its own prefab, cook prefab, cure prefab, cooking, eating, hurt, ambient, pickup and scan noises (placeholder sounds, they have yet to be cleaned and sorted properly)
Oh I believe i also fixed tutel's eyes in both the creature and the buildable.
If we can't make this fucker walk, I'll swap the model to Vedalfish, but i wanted this to be an EZ grab that just sits there and lets itself get picked up

i still didnt figure out how to make them ground dwelling, but i did find out how to make them move like they're high and drunk accidentally 

Let it be known that after playtesting for an hour, the Ermfish and Tutels are working seemingly normally, but at my home, I cannot stay still for more than 3 seconds. I built a small base so I can quickly hop between the base and the pod. Stalkers started attacking Ermsharks right from the beginning. My home area is now infested with Stalkers and Ermsharks. The Ermlaugh now strikes fear in my heart.

Last set of highlights for the night: This showcases what's been done for the "Tutel" and after that, you get to see this game transformed into a psychological action-horror by the Ermsharks around my pod and base.
I did a theoretically functional Tutel subscriber reaction. The creature has a 15% probability of playing a sound from its "sub" sound bank when we detect either a new, recurring or gift sub in the Twitch API. ECC has a Cooked creature variant class or something
An utility which allows you to create cooked and cured variants of creatures
You could take a look at that and see how it handles modifying the prefab to make it actually dead
the good thing is this way, the tutel stays chatty after dying, so the power of schizo remains
Although I have a suspicion it might load an entirely different prefab instead of modifying the existing one

ECC lib is good, but the documentation is more or less "figure it out buddy"

I cleaned up all the Tutel sounds to give us a head start, so at this point all the sounds I have in there should be good to ship. I also added a few femboy noise gems including his first ever super weird scream

at the moment? no, but i think what will end up happening is reducing the ermshark splits to prevent just that
there will be a fix where environmental/predator damage won't split the sharks iirc
I think one split per shark would be okay. I had to go to the pre erm shark version because it made the game unplayable.
So Alex, not only is there a weird behavior with gravity spawns (watch them fall through the map after spawning because I'm not close enough for the terrain collider to have spawned in) I have a bad feeling some of our spawns may have been coming into existence at the fringes, or outside of geometry... I think Govo's fix resolves that though

agreed, my game was turned into action horror about an hour in, and i was desperately trying to manage the sharks and avoid splitting, still tough... although with a spawn filter it gets better, and i think ultimately it comes down to not having predators and accidental contact split them as well
i figured out our spawn issues for tutel man... cell level was too large and spawns would be outside of existing terrain collider range
the time at which i finally resolved my issues at is uncanny

this started happening because the cell radius is smaller, so i basically filter the tutel biomes to floor/wall level ones now, so you don't see them spawn and fall, rather by the time you see them they're already foraging

on two occasions, and this is weird, but i could swear an ermshark spawned... IN me. there's something strange going on. i'll find the video later, i was recording.
i played for 90 miuntes with govo's spawn filter and my tutel tweaks and it was a lot better, in fact i would say ermfish and tutel needed a tiny 🤏 probability increase
But we still to reserve the old techtype so nothing else gets assigned to it
also i think if predators and environments can't cause it to split anymore, with the biome filter now in place, the ermshark isn't spamming anymore it's so much better (even without the pred/env damage fix, just the reduced spawning)
90 minutes, three ermsharks encountered... i'll get to test some more today to see if it builds up quickly

at 10:28 something weird happened and i think i get it now... i am 60% sure that ermshark physically pulled out a tutel from my inventory

i also did a quick test on an old save with about two hours in, and surprisingly i found tutels rather quickly, so old saves won't be void of them
ok quick playtesting report:
-increase ermfish spawn probability, they're there but very sparse (with Gov's fixes of course)
-ermshark is perfect now... i encountered 3 in about 100 minutes. every single one caught me off guard. every single one gave me a hard time, but the quantity was fair. this is without the damage fix, only the spawn fix
-tutel distribution is perfect, and i even got to test its ability to walk on land... also perfect!
also the tutel saying "im a famous v-tuber" is just so appropriate 
i'll have a busy one at work tomorrow, but alex if you work on this and need anything urgent just straight up dm/ping me... my PR seems solid at this point, feel free to review/merge
why did you unpack it 
the tutel buildable? because the others were unpacked, and the turtle had a few components added onto its original prefab that didn't seem to want to show up in game (ie the eyes)
my creature didn't need the unpacking, so the og prefabs are still there

even though we talked about this, yeah for the record vedal sound bytes are a lot harder to come by than neuro
i was maybe gonna have a chance to come back in the code and add my twitch subscriber event (i have 6 sound bytes of vedal saying "thanks" or "thanks for the sub") where i wanted tutel to have a 15% chance of saying "thanks" when we detect a new sub.... BUT i think the bully mechanic makes up for this and more
speaking of, who thought of the bully mechanic and ermcon? was it govo? both ideas are amazing

i didnt include this in my PR because it felt a bit sloppy
my logic is vedal would eventually notice that when neuro is thanking new subs, the tutel sometimes says thanks too, and he would realize what's going on 
and i just managed to free up my saturday, so excited about this i won't have to vod-rewatch

just gave the latest mod a good long shakedown... did not get overwhelmed by ermsharks... i did have an encouter with two at the same time, but it was manageable. i even remained in the area for quite some time without being excessively harrassed
oh i think the asset bundle on the repo isn't up to date, i just noticed the tutel is supposed to animate

so if i get this right it got this bad because the sharks split, then you save, then you reload and all the split ermsharks spawn full size, and in turn split some more, and more, and more
@bitter viper his older save is littered with old spawn nodes... it does not do that if you start clean with our updates
