I just joined back in so someone may have said it, but my theory is that "I think I saw a ghost" could maybe be after the crash. Not only do they hint at a break by saying "It's been awhile/losing touch" meaning that some time passed since the last song (which I guess is after the Falling Down/Engineer. The crash could be a result of the "procrastination" stated in falling down. They were just driving to forget about school, etc). In the second half of ghost, they finally give up on coming back and call for someone to get them out of the madness of college and such ("calling it quits" etc).
The stretch I have is that the ghost is someone who died in the crash, since using the "supernatural human" image and such, we can have a theory that the supernatural does exist in this narrative.

we didn't know before that the key was 32 so the binary was used to generate numbers and other smaller suff
