I think architecture is an interesting one. There is architecture that is art, but there are architects who reject the concept of art, feeling that only functionality matters and any sort of appeal towards aesthetics or deeper meaning beyond fuctionality is pointless, many whom outright look down on artists.
So architecture in many cases isn't art.

yeah i added a bit of ambient occlusion here or there and my natural rendering style tends to gravitate more towards 3d forms than anime-esque style (which is something of a limitation for me) but it was relaxing to paint all things considered

My neuro cosplay is finally all done :)) Ignore the censoring 😭 I didn't get brown shoes cuz that would be too expensive but I have a nice pair of black ones ill probs use for it. you can do gradient practice, like drawing a rectangle and filling it from darker to lighter until you get used to control the pressure

I'm really proud of the coloring in the fifth one. I've spent a lotta time perfecting the skin tone for the watercolors and I ended up with a lotta Pink Madder Lake with a bit of Prussian Blue and a good bit of Deep Cadmium Yellow.
I guess it's as they say, the enemy of creativity is the absence of limitations

and then putting barely any water on my brush and gently tapping the dry color with it to just barely activate it, without spreading it out and diluting the color, achieving a near properly opaque watercolour while keeping the specific color mix I want (wet pencils are much harder to mix in my experience)

painters back in the day spent quite a bit for their supplies and stuff so... they learned to try and save while mixing... so yeah at learning stage of mixing you probably end up using much more than experienced person

you may notice some colors not mixing at all despite having been wetted. this is because it took me a while to realize only half of my pencils are watercolor pencils

for me color theory has been overall quite easy self learned thing... it was more of just experimenting and recognizing at glance when combination doesn't look good and paying attention to all that color theory around... like how stuff is designed, etc... like food packages are examples of color theory in action lol

Nice progress!! It really comes down to repetition and thoughtful practice; after your brain learns some aspect of drawing from doing it a bunch of times, it becomes automatic/passive and frees you to learn something else. my process so far is to replicate a reference as closely as possible, then try to draw it mostly from memory and using my own drawings as reference a few times until I'm comfortable with drawing it and notice something that looks off. compare to original reference, then repeat.
the nice thing about physical art is you dont really get to slack off on some of your skills by compensating for them with edits. Face too long? Don't wanna do it all again? finish it to practice your other skills.

im not the best at watercolors so take what i say with a grain of salt. but from my experience with them, i always made my sketches really light. you'd want good quality watercolor paper too. i used a blowdryer to insta dry my color layers and ultimately just take my time with it

I also got the head shape a lot better. I kept making the jaw too small because Elster's head is very round in much of the in-game art, but turns out the black parts on the jaw is what makes it look a lot smaller.

for future reference, high quality watercolour paper is usually around 300 gsm and cotton. lower gsm can be workable of course but just be aware

for that specific drawing I only used 2H

I also have a pretty drawing compass and I guess I can use that to compare with my hand drawn circles. it does leave a hole in the middle though cause of the sharp needle.

I remember a video where some artist showcased a site with bunch of tracing lessons but I think it's one of those where you have to subscribe... but it has stuff like learn by tracing humans, dragons and stuff step by step

Tip is that you shouldnt be afraid to ruin a sketch, usually it's easier to just restart it than you think

thanks, I can see that the jaw is just barely not long enough, but this is because making the jaw longer doesnt actually lower the nose and mouth positions when using the Loomis method so i got confused.

dpi doesn't affect shit if you set your resolution in pixels

dpi is resolution for printing

when you set the required dimensions in real life units like cm or inch, and the program calculates how many dots (pixels) should correspond to that

that's why it's called dots per inch - DPI

so if you don't care about printing and set the image resolution in pixels then dpi shouldn't be a concern for you

but every art youtuber says to put it high, cause they don't know themselves what the fuck it is

I can't test that, but it just seems like a placebo effect. Cause DPI can't possibly affect anything, cause it's just a ratio between real units and digital ones. And if you didn't set the size of the image in real units, and did it already in pixels, then it just has nothing to do at all
