indeed... personally I find a good practice is something along the lines of just doing drawings and including details you want to practice... that way you get a drawing to publish online and have practice alongside... but that's just my method XD

The one stroke thing is very helpful, its an advice I hear time and time again is that when professionals do multiple strokes they already have an idea of what they want while a beginner might not. Doing just one stroke will make it so that you have a concrete idea of what it is you want to draw and how it looks

personally, line art helps you see the art more clearly after sketches, so as much as it helps you identify which layers are showing, its fine enough

you got some replies already about this but yeah... at basic level color theory is what colors go well together... how colors mix next to each other so that it looks good and not clashing... etc... plenty of artists just end up learning this without really reading about it... good artist that hasn't heard about color theory much but has just learned it by drawing is still applying the concept

it goes beyond drawing... aesthetical designs of structures and stuff... coloring walls, floors and ceilings so they look good together... you find plenty of examples online where home owner without sense of color theory has chosen terrible colors to repaint some room lol

i use references a lot too but knowing the rules doesn’t hurt. most of the time we reference other artists, they take a stylistic approach to coloring that intentionally break the rules, so if we didn’t have the color theory knowledge beforehand, we might fail to understand what rules they were breaking in the first place to achieve those results

You ever tried grisaille method? Block in the character as a gray value around the general brightness value of how you expect their base colors to look. Then use only grayscale values for shadow and lighting. After you’re done with that, you can either use gradient maps to start setting certain colors for certain areas of the body, or you can apply a color blend mode clipped onto that gray layer and color the base colors in the last stage, using the HSV curves to adjust if needed. Makes for easy adjustments to fit the mood of your piece.

thats a bit hard to answer cuz how you deal with that issue depends on the scene of the drawing

everything is 3pp but 1pp is when two points are very far away and 2pp is when one point is very far away

yeah agreed. there’s technically no such thing as 1 pt or 2 pt perspective but for practical purposes the other points are disregarded due to its distance

draw a box website goes over this in their early chapters. as well as the framed perspective books. One easy way to gauge relative positioning in perspective is that let’s say you place someone’s head in line with the horizon line. no matter how far out the person is from the camera, their head will always be on that horizon line.

and for me you always have to draw at least a couple of guidelines

just to remind yourself the overall structure

only very experienced artists can draw good without any of them

I dunno, to me, its important to study the concept of convergence towards those vanishing points. Guidelines help, but you can theoretically draw multiple boxes in different placements converging towards a vanishing point without a single guideline so long as you understand how parallel lines work in perspective.

even in one point perspective, you don’t need those lines so long as you can imagine each of the edges of a box converging towards that single point. those edges will be parallel. same principle applies to 2 and 3 point perspective

its also rough because rotated objects create entirely new vanishing points specifically for those objects

things like stairs for example, don’t follow the general layout of the grid lines because they operate on their own horizon line separate from the main piece
