from my personal experience publishing art since I started to try and learn drawing has probably helped me quite a bit... it feels like it helped me to improve faster because I confidence of just publishing art online to view even though it was so many hours to draw something very basic because learning slowed drawing process so much

you could probably find a reference of it online and just follow the spiral. for example, you would place your characters in a pose that would draw your attention to the center of the golden ratio spiral. The whole purpose of it is purely compositional.

like the rule of thirds, the golden triangle composition, etc.

they’re all there to draw your attention to certain points of focus which have been known to have strong contextual impact on a piece

and create a sense of harmony and unity

so if you want the face to be the central focal area, you arrange the piece in a way against the lines of the golden ratio spiral to draw the viewer’s gaze to that focal area.

yep that works fine. Some additional background elements that fit the spiral as well and smart use of lighting values that highlights the face could draw one’s eye even more. All these compositional techniques work in conjunction to bring harmony and a central focal area upon which the piece relies on.

I'm not sure what to think about HD models in Minecraft as they don't look like they respect the classic style of the game but cool stuff... I know HD Minecraft models are a thing officially too but they feel so out of place

I recently had one of those "this is so obvious" moments with art... make a box with texture and then wrap it around so it gives impression of actually having a shape... like fishnet... so it looks like surface actually makes it curve

Understandable. I mean it's been there since even before Fallen Kingdom Series and Creeper Aw Man. Like I used to find it odd that Minecraft models with animated eyes and bendable body parts doesn't match Minecraft but there is so many animations that it's the norm lol. But I seen render arts that looks amazing with those features so it's just about the artist/animator

they could just rework the official bedrock edition to remaster/remake old assets to fit with more detailed style while still being faithful in a way collission is just a box or something around characters, etc
