When looking at a shadow we usually see a dark shadow directly under the object and then the rest of the shadow but the dark part is usually not to big

Sure! My specs are as follows:
• Camera: Nikon D7100
• Lens: Sigma 18-35mm f/1.8
• Filter: Haida lightpollution

The time-lapses was automated where a new photo was taken 1s after the end of previous exposure (built in function in the camera). The individual photos have exposure times between 5 to 10 seconds

For aurora, the exposure time need to be shorter if it moves more, or if you start to get trailing stars. If you want to zoom into the planets or galaxies, I recommend that you get a tracking mount that can counteract the Earth's rotation, but they tend to be expensive

What you should look out for to predict aurora are the following:
• As strong as possible south-pointing magnetic filed (tonight was a sustained -20nT which is good)
• Higher density of solar particles (+20 particles/cm^3/s is good)
• Faster solar-wind speeds (+600 km/s is good)

There are satellites between Earth and the sun that measure all these things and give us a 30-50 minute warning before a solar storm hits us

Works well for galaxies, nebulas, the Milky Way and the night sky in general, but doesn't really work for aurora because it's so dynamic. If you stack aurora photos it will just be smeared out and not give you any structures
