I think I've reached the limit of Blender compositor, it's now appearing those floating point errors on vector calculations and all those ugly shadow acne

the floating point error only appears when using GPU as compositing device, idk about the shadow acne artifact tho

Personally the closer I get to the subjects focal plane, the smaller the brush size I use

Detail at distance for me is typically about how much detail I can paint with just a huge brush and pen pressure

You know what? I take my words back. I fixed the shadow acne problem by adding an 1e-3 allowance for the ray collision, and I also optimized EVERY vector calculation to be more efficient by using other built-in nodes to replace math nodes, which SIGNIFICANTLY decreases the visual of the floating point error. NOT ONLY I did all those, I somehow stacked fucking FIVE reflection bounces WITHOUT overflowing the memory NOR increasing the compositing time by a lot

well it depends on what you want to learn. Are you trying to learn more about the tools itself or about art in general? Those are two different routes. Like if its just tools, you could learn about the various blend modes and how they affect their coloring when using new layers, you could learn about masks and clipping masks, HSV adjustments and color balances, gradient maps, color curve tools, perspective grid tools, liquify tools, the different brushes (including pressure brushes), etc.

digital has many advantages. You should learn about the main ones that help with line art like your lasso and transform tools, your liquify tool, and flipping the canvas to start. Those allow for easy manipulation of any mistakes in digital.

as for art in general, proportions are always a good place to start for characters. Anatomy is not as necessary in the early stages. Then focus on practicing line weight (since most brushes have pressure options). Lines in foreground are usually thicker than those in the background, as well as lines where ambient occlusion tend to happen are also thicker. Then learning how to draw in perspective by understanding how shapes (especially boxes) converge towards vanishing points in the horizon line also helps with applying proportions in a 3d environment. It’s all a step by step process of building up your general visual library and skillsets.

At least for the eyes part of the face, I might be able to help. Sketch out the sphere of the eyeballs themselves and “wrap” the eyelids around the eyes, with the top eyelid being more prominent than the bottom eyelid from a top down angle. then erase the lines for the eyeball and you’re left with a perspective-correct eyes.

wdym i'm not that good. I used to spend 30 hours on a portraits that would obviously take most people less time. One thing i emphasized to myself not too long ago is how useful it is to get rid of perfectionism. And i stopped redrawing line art several times and just started cleaning up the sketch instead. After that, i became 2-3 times faster and more confident in drawing

and also to constantly mirror the canvas to better spot mistakes

I try to play with prespective and poses more so... it's something I have been considering

Its fun, I normally do it because it can give some silly angles but for me that's because I work in 3D and it gives me time to get different angles

it definitely is less work once 3D artist has assets ready... can produce so many images of a single scene lol

well... reusing the same scene to be more accurate... changing poses

definitely... different artistic methods have their own set of skills... once person finds it trivial though then it's just convenient to them... like it starts to feel like you casually do something as a result of having learned/practiced so much
