#2024-game-jam
1 messages Ā· Page 21 of 1
nintendo has a different opinion on that š
True but they're not going to win the lawsuit
they're just going to keep suing until the other party runs out of money for lawyers iirc
Ngl nintendo kinda scary for that
what're you lacking to achieve this?
There's some extra sauce I want to plan - putting a unique spin on it compared to the Neurojam version and a couple new mechanics, after that mainly time I guess
Bro pulled best game first try
If I may suggest smth, probably changing camila and evil to gain attack only for winning fight would be a good idea for balance
So u can't flee to gain extra
It's a good idea
eliv base stats would probably need to be adjusted if that's the change
currently she has really low stats to balance out on having that ability
Does it? how come?
But yeah she kind of is a better Camilla rn
Okay true

lule alex already beat the time god in 500 different timelines
He beat it once thanks to getting Numi last second and then rated the game -1/5 on all five categories
what why
No I'm joking lmao you can't rate that low
tbf the current balance makes the time god really easy to beat
aren't cerbers and camilas super nice to have?
They're the best
I like vedals + rums
Post 'em!!
here, in order
first was a throw-together with assets from the game (apart from the title itself)
second was one of the story images from in-game with the title slapped on-top
third one was drawn by one of our artists after I bugged them to do it
Oh yeah, I love this game
number 2 and 3 are the best
It's good to have custom art for this stuff
yeah I wanted neuro included urgently cause that makes more people click

also color to stand out
I heard having the game title text on the cover is not super necessary on itch.io but we still included it lul
the artist made one without the title as well but it looked nice so we just used it
Oooooo
Yeah both look good tbh
I think I'll go sleep for now but have a good one everyone, I'll chat and play more games tomorrow
I messed up on the resolution cause I didn't check
so we just made it square
and ended up having to add black bars on the side
Some people say don't judge a book by its cover but players definitely do, amazing cover btw
thanks, we completely forgot about the cover until after the gamejam
what I learned this time is to always have a decent cover to get people interested
they always do haha
okay bed time, good night y'all
Yeah as I said today, even 150 atk isn't hard to get
Eliv + 2 hellhounds basically guarantee that
Ye eliv + 2 cumilq = best combo
Both for regular gameplay and theoretical limit
Also thx, I just thought of how to balance it for the bot
Guess who is first in popularity now
Thank you! Me neither, I know I'm probably not going to win so making a viral game is already good enough for me, but really just having one person that loves what you make is huge.
I did feel a little bit insecure about it before Vedal played it tho.
would be hilarious if you won tho
my money is on pub winning the ratings tho, its very well done for all the rating categories
the only negatives at all i could give it was just the drink mixing got just a bit repetitive over time, and the game could have done with a less annoying way to trash the items you dont need that get in your way (i didnt even notice the trash can for a good while)
First 3D jam game, first comment wasn't a bug report, I'd consider this an absolute win
Anxiety halved
The bug report I got was supposed to be a āfeatureā in my game
I think any game that has more than 20 ratings has a chance to win honestly, if it fits the theme and it's well done. And there's an insane amount of games this time so a lot of hidden gems for sure.
its plugging time
https://itch.io/jam/neuro/rate/3213324
we're 26th in terms of popularity i think
idk if that even matters for the final score
Nope, it doesn't matter, it's just to flex, maybe it can get you some more ratings but that's about it
ok
Sixth and still holding it
https://itch.io/jam/neuro/rate/3212401
Plugs time
https://itch.io/jam/neuro/rate/3212755
Someone said plugs? https://itch.io/jam/neuro/rate/3211830
Anyone already started working on post jam update
our team plans on adding a boss
ive done a fair bit of random stuff
it's still really cute!
final variant is so badass
Popularity dropped like a billion for my game haha
I think in our case we have a bug fixing update. Otherwise not too sure.
Already played/rated it
I donāt think youāre allowed to put up updates to fix bugs
Oh gotta plug a little
Iām still studying the popularity
We just have it, just not linking it in the page.
So gotta be doing daily number experiments to see its effects on popularity
Ah ok thatās fine
Sam made sure of that at least, as they saw that rule
I can see evil in time winning
Mine dropped a few in popularity, but its understandable, the ones above are really good
for me i can see unhando/sea of memories as winners and possibly troubleshooting
Mine also dropped a bit in popularity
It's gotta be Pub, right?
Pub's been up there since day 1
pub would sweep if they got that 2nd ending in time
not anymore, tutel rancher #1 babee
However, Evil in time has less number of ratings, probably because of not being playable on browser
yeah, the visuals is peak, and the story is somber and the gameplay may get a bit repeatative but its still good
evil in time is so good
Yo, share me your analytics page, I think my early inference neglected how major the effects of a new day is for popularity
There's so many good games, I don't know what's gonna win
Sure, one sec
I think evil in time
if ya ever need
HOLY spike
iām just gonna call voodoo magic and concede, thereās not much difference in our data trend and somehow I dropped 18 ranks in popularity
1 theory is that popularity is incredibly malleable in the first couple hours of a new day, but treasures and neuro64 is still comfortably on top
At some point I definitely canāt consider them outliers and if anyone know who made them, I need their data
That spike was when vedal played haha
Iām gonna call it now, Neuro64 is gonna win the game jam
yeah
I think Vedal playing gave a boost to us too, even tho he didn't play our game
I feel it, but had to rush to do all the stuff in time
want to try change stuff like colours or lines in post-jam update, hope it'll help
I really like visuals in your game in this way, it has single style, Sadesc is insane artist ikneel
and I wonder why people are downloading the windows version of our game? The browser version is more convenient isn't it?
Yea, day 5 everyone had the same spike
no plz I will die
To keep
heh, I didn't consider that
it's one of the most rated still, I think it's more important
PLEASE NO IM BEGGING YOU
Tutel only looks at popularity haha
I think people outside of the game jam are playing those games, maybe we as devs can't appreciate them enough as the players do
hope chat will make him to check most rated
Oh I am
I do way more promotion for non devs to play cause I want as many fans to play mine as possible
alot actually
they will ask him to play Vedal's Secret
I donāt even care if I donāt win, if tutel plays mine, people will give it more of a chance
i have 800 views but im pretty sure we only have 270 participants, so im pretty sure a lot outside played our games
Alex banned sending those images, it's on the pinned message, but nobody listened
oh whoops
Goodby cruel world
Just coolness discussion
wait, that's for coolness/ karma
Not analytics
100%
I dont think we have anyone thatās actually karma farming for views in this jam though
Afaik
I think it was because he had 0 coolness

Nono
We had a discussion while he was here
yea I know, I was there
I assumed he saw the screenshot of us seeing him have zero coolness
and banned discussions on karma
(even if that's not the case it's funny so I'm going with that explanation)
Next yearās jam Iām gonna prepare 7 different covers and study the effects of covers on clicks
Or if we get an evil jam
That's great, but unfortunately even if those games have high popularity their ratings are low, neuro64 and treasures of the sands are ignored by other devs for some reason
they don't have appeal, I think
We donāt really have the data to know if theyāre even played though, thatās why I need to know their data
which is why it's confusing that they're popular in the first place
But theyāre not even in the server?
@placid salmon is assuming theyāre carried by public players
Do you want us to?
Yeah, that's what I think
yeah, but why tho
I think people enjoy those games for whatever reason
Did you try it?
like this one has a banger thumbnail, I feel like it should be more popular
Maybe they don't have a lot of people that play them but those that see them do
not yet
Not yet, I'm playing 4 and 5 rating games
I rated 67 games
Try it and then tell me if you still think the public people are playing it haha
If its plugged more here, it could be very well be more popular
Plugging doesn't seem to correlate with popularity
Either that or plugging here doesn't seem to correlate lol
Hmmmm
yeah, I'm not seeing it
Its only a matter of marketing ig
TBF, 72 hours
I have the developer bias, we as developers do not always know what the people want
yea, but other submissions are better
That's fair
this game is epic
it is
I dont, i look at my unfinished game and i think its shit in this day and age
Thatās why Iām not making assumptions and is actively chasing data
The analytics shows public data
Im just vibing now
If you asked me personally I wouldn't think this would be popular but maybe you have a thousand ten year old kids that love it
1: Low appeal thumbnail, 2: It's download only, 3: Unreal Engine Game, 4: No audio, 5: It seems to be like jump king
how popular??
Wait it's unreal engine?
No wonder it's popular
But what you think of your game isn't always what's true, there's always someone out there who will appreciate it for what it is or can be
You canāt have that, cause we have data points for games above these 2 and they must have lower plays/views, which means whatever data they have must fall below your game
So whatever they have, it has to be above evil in time, but below tutel rancher
For it to not be voodoo magic
It probably has more metrics that we can't see, like playtime
If they have less views they need less plays to be popular maybe
Well, actually no they can't track playtime
So far my theory is impression proportional to plays/views
download-only game, itch can't-
yea
Unless it's in the itch app probably
And it has been holding up for the past 5 days, but then my theory was just proven wrong cause I just dropped 18 ranks in popularity, so Iām looking for data points again haha
To understand the math better for next year and also curiosity
UE!? š
I think the algorithm intentionally tries to drop games that spike in popularity
Well, I don't think they're pretty open about that iirc
Download only game means they have more downloads than Evil in Time, Fragmented, and Evilās Malice
Why are we talking ab popularity again?
size is 164 mb tho
Cause the math is weird and I want to know why
Is it so that vedal can play ur games or sum?
ah, Evil in Time is bigger
Which is why both our games went up high at the start then immediately start falling off @rotund rampart
It wants to bump rising games
Basically there are consistent outliers on top which I REALLY want to know how the math works to consistently keep them there
It's probably more to do with the delta than total
I never went up, always been in the 20-40 range
I think you were with me at the beginning in the teens range
I played a lot of unreal engine games submitted actually, a lot low rated because they are heavy and download only
Unreal has visual scripting after all doesn't it
Yes, but we can also see the delta in the analytics graph, and almost every game shares the same trend
maybe itch also uses the rating values which we cannot see?
I doubt that
Yea I agree
So what I want to infer is what it is
Cause whatever it is, it must be a tangible value
If I canāt get my answer, I might have to join a couple more game jams to experiment
Btw, here's the best data for popularity, this is now my best performing game of all time.
Maybe in the future you can host a game jam that is purely experimental lol, all the same game but you control the analytics and interactions
People wanna make dem tutels fk
6% CTR is crazy
Turtle sex sells HAHA
TBF, it's a hyper viral formula, vedal pulled the single funniest tutel in the game first try and had it top koko
Vedoko*
You have a really high impressions to view conversion, so its still consistent with what Iāve theorized so far
Then streamed it
Iāll look into this
Oh so u made that game
pretty wild of u to include ved*lf bro
what would itch want for popularity? impressions vs downloads?
20000 people saw v*dolf pipe vedoko

Live not including clips
I already did that last year with my previous game Detective Neuro, which was also played on stream
Oh rightt
V*dolf gotta become a mainstay of the jams honestly
Impression : views and plays and I think thereās a second part to it
Yeah, that clip was legendary, the meta is to make content games
oh that words blocked haha
I'll keep that in mind for next year lmfao
The easier click bait title you can make with the game the better
Man, yk, I wanna try plasticity
so what even was the origin of v-dolf? was it a clicker game with turtle variants last year? or was there some other source it came from
Someone tried drawing vedal iirc
its an anny clip
Was it anny drawing vedal or Camila
xD
the modelling app?
i forgot about that
she tried to give vedal nose ring
Just don't link it here
Yeah
I'm a parametric 3d modeller, not a surface 3d modeller, i have made models in blender but I'm a million times slower than I am in SolidWorks or Catia
I've wanted to mess around with it, but I saw it wasn't free and moved on
Modelling stuff in blender feels so scuffed
is it?
no I mean
what's scuffed about it?
Coming from CAD modelling
I mean
Having no defined scale for the most part
Feels very scuffed
CAD is built for precision stuff
blender is made for artists
but, you can see the scale
Not to the same degree as like SolidWorks and other cad software when it comes to dimensioning, and yeah I get it it's fine
But like that precise control is what I'm used to so not having those tools to that depth feels scuffed to me, when I heard plasticity is like parametric but for artists I was like o.o
I'll have to look into that, it's been a while since I've tried blender
it's different but not bad imo
I've used fusion, I've used blender
blender is better for my purposes
Oh def not bad, I didn't mean scuffed in like a "this is horrid" kinda way, just like when I use it it's scuffed lol
Yeah
get some practise in, it'll feel natural eventually
I've practiced to some degree, im at a point where I can make what I wanna make but it's a million times slower and less precise than cad
I think if I limit the number of assets well enough, I can make a 3d game for game jam
wanna hop in a vc and do some 3d modelling?
I was going to make some blockouts for my game
I'm about 20 minutes from home rn omw
I have to take a shower afterwards too but after that sure
@ me later
Vibes
have a look at this one
very high effort and overlooked
It has the download only debuff
and also 500+ mb hahaha
and also burns my pc cause unreal engine
And it's also heavily about Neuro and that wouldn't appeal to public players that don't know her
but its definitely one of the better platformers
honestly the only people playing games in the neuro jam knows neuro haha
counterpoint, neuro appeals to public players that dont know her because shes neuro
Where is that 6gb download?
Maybe, I think some outsiders may have wandered here by the algorithm, but treasures of the sands is definitely being played by outsiders in my opinion
I just remember someone saying that it existed this jam.
that makes sense
@south hazel this would make a good video
Ill play it when i get home
dude idk how the comments have been for you guys
but mine have been like overwhelmingly positive
and im like
fuck yeah
i triggered some dude's nostalgia, unexpected, but welcome
top shit
everyone just says cute and good art
some about cerber and spin
I'm surprised how positive ours were
mine have mostly been about the gameplay, and the difficulty being too hard
but in a good way
Looking through, it was pretty much every aspect of the game.
mines generally positive comments on the enemy variety, music, and sadge ending
one comment about the game breaking at the unpacking stage, that i have no clue why that might be
my favourite comment tho
it is, it is pretty funny
i cant tell if i just did a decent job of making the audio not earrape
or if this guy really loves the gunshot and reload sound effect
Mine is from a person who will surely chime in
he loves the barrel rolls uwu
ive already implemented multiple suggestions from my comments lol
"Could use some locking doors mechanic so player wouldn't escape from combat."
"make the dodge into a spin cause she spin a lot"
best audio or riot lets gooo
we got several "I want to see more" comments :D
seriously though, can't plug this enough
7 ratings is a sin for that game
guys help boost that a little
I rated that game, it was good
same
I never get those
mine is just too contained and complete
for people to want more
i had one comment from @waxen trail i think who noticed my favourite aspect of the lore and put it in his comment
and people don't really talk about it after either
cause the experience ends when the game ends
i think their game unironically has the best replayability tho
sea of memories, ive mentioned is my favourite but the replayability on just 72 hour game jam game is insane
Also had the whole contained thing, execpt the part were we somehow had 3 unused tracks.
This is the kind of comments that I like, people talking about their decisions in game. I had comments about asking more but that's a lot of work.
Now that my game was played on stream I probably won't do the sdk from Neuro, I won't add a skip for the mating scene.
lmfao

Make that 4, I miscounted
yea sea of memories is fun
Oh no, that was the wrong image, it was this comment.
the summary of all my comments
i forgot who i married nietzsche to
but i named their kid godslayer
godtier was the devil and v*dolf
it want die was camila and vedal
Movies usually add a cliffhanger to make people want more, I don't know if that could help you
Did you play mine?
Good shipping, they are canonically siblings in my game
Just kidding
ohno
I don't think so
play and tell me what you think, its super short
I only play low rated games, sorry
you can just play and don't rate and give your opinion
haha
would be interested to see what you think can be improved
Would watching a playthrough work for that?
I have gotten 0 criticisms for improvement so far
ye

Do AIs Dream of Electric Turtles is a short and sweet Visual Novel about Neurosama falling asleep and dreaming, in the dream she goes through some of her past memories, or remnants of her past.

Play the game here @ http...
Okay, I'll watch it right now and tell you what I think, I'll try to give feedback to improve, but usually when I play the games I try to break them
Its a short narrative story, there's nothing to break haha
there's some mini games
but I don't think there's any easily triggerable bugs
Yeah, that's what I thought, I usually don't give comments when I have nothing new to say that others didn't but I'll focus on the story then
just have a look and tell me your thoughts, I love the comments I'm getting but everyone just says cute and the only idea for improvement atm is make it cuter
But it is cute
this is so cool
which haha
also hello
https://itch.io/jam/neuro/rate/3213059
give it a go! its about 15 minutes playtime

-The ui is simple, I guess you could make it more interesting.
-I don't know if it's the video but there was a weird white flickering before the start.
-You should add a settings menu.
-Text is plain, you could add effects like making words wave or different colors to add more emotion.
-You could add small animations like make the character jump when they are surprised.
-More sound effects.
-The doors with the yellow highlight maybe make them do that only when you are close.
-Add a way to hide the text box to make it easier to see the art.
-Add a way to see previous conversations (hard).
-Maybe make the texbox color change depending on the character who is speaking.
-During the cooking mini game you should improve the game feel.
-When the player succeeds at a mini game, it definitely needs a nice sound so they know they are doing well.
-During Cerber mini game let the player know how many answers they are completing and how many are left, they always need to feel like progress is happening.
-I didn't understand why Neuro was asleep, what was the main conflict and what was learned during the adventure?
-Maybe you could have a brief introduction of each character for people that aren't Neuro fans.
The game was very c u t e and well done, good job.
nice thanks for the feedback
You are welcome
He only plays low rated games
damn
The comment I made was based on a video
when will u play my low rated game

If I don't get to your entry in time before the jam ends I can play it after if you want
I'm suing you for plagiarism
If your game has 4 or less ratings I rated your game
im considering working on a new project now
something i can take slower
ya u rated my game. thank you!
but with a simpler scope
I think it's a good idea to make other projects, continuing one from a game jam can be difficult because the foundation is almost always rushed and a lot of times it requires to start from scratch.
the foundation of my game is surprisingly bug free
instead of fixing bugs and adding features in code i mostly just designed the levels around the hyper simple code
My dms are open if you need any advice on structuring your code or planning your project
But did you make it scalable? I can't comment too much on your case since I didn't play your game
i hate making games i only make foundations. if i teamed up with someone who liked making games we would be unstoppable.
pretty much every object in the game runs on more or less the same base code
reused in different ways in different prefabs
im pretty sure there isnt a game object with a unique script
so it should be pretty scalable
Video?
Vidya
It was yours I think
Def my hardware doing shit
Dunno if that white flickering exists in most devices
Just woke up so time to plug
https://itch.io/jam/neuro/rate/3213344
actually i am mistaken i believe you have not rated my game i retract my thanks
Good job then, but code isn't the only problem one can face when scaling up a game jam game, but I wish you good luck in whatever project you decide to work on
the most bodged thing in the game is the scene system
What's the name of your game?
but thats fine cuz i plan on remaking that anyway
NEURO 2024 SIMULATOR
It has 17 ratings, I'm not there yet, not even close
Is this the one where I had to keep spamming space bar to code in py
your thanks will be reserved for a later time
you can spam any key you wish
OH
Knowing that wouldāve made it alot more fun haha
Would love to slam my keyboard
Sounds like a legitimate way to code
that is correct, cursor simply interprets what i intend and fixes it
I have to play like 75 games to reach you in 2 days so I don't know if those thanks will ever come but we'll see
chop chop
I rated 67 games btw
I rated 42 I think
I rated 63
Though "empty files" got deleted so only 41
I like to rate more game but I had issue while upgrading my computer and am visiting familly rn
have you tried installing an operating system
Could be a good Idea
(tbh I fixed it but am in familly meeting rn so still sadge no rating)
Yippie glad it was fixed
enjoy your family time, we still have 2 days and 8 hours to rate
Maybe more if Alex extends it which is also possible
I will
Whatās your game
Meanwhile us getting to level 111 of hypetrain
https://itch.io/jam/neuro/rate/3213324
Daily plug
Idk if this actually helps, but its here
will take a look later today

"daily" plug - https://itch.io/jam/neuro/rate/3212563, aiming to not be below median
We fell in popularity a bit but we still are in the top 20 most rated games!!!
Play Memory Lanes! https://itch.io/jam/neuro/rate/3212555
Iām in like top 40 now haha
I was on vacation right when the Jam ended I only now have returned, I'll be playing some of the submissions, but if you can, please play The Timeless Artifact! I had a lot of fun making it, and I'm quite proud of myself!
https://itch.io/jam/neuro/rate/3212060
Ayy will do
https://itch.io/jam/neuro/rate/3212492 daily plug as well
https://itch.io/jam/neuro/rate/3212401 daily plug
||I'm gonna suppose that when the two windows go off screen forever, it's the end, right?||
||huh maybe a bug, I did make that ending on a rush, it should have a little animation on the end but that was the end, thanks for playing!!||
You should probably plug more, it's surprising to see such a good idea having only 5 (now 6) ratings
yeah with the vacation I couldn't plug it that much, I'm now trying to get back to try getting some ratings last minute
also thanks for rating!!
No problem š
https://itch.io/jam/neuro/rate/3213059
about to play yours, here's mine
Can you stop shilling your game please you have like 80 reviews
not the chat got reply bro š
Missing "Your name"
what game is this
I don't want to be mean to that person, I'll just say that the game has also a lot of ai generated stuff in it, it makes this reply much more sus
Is it the one in space with the aliens?
oh no waves wouldn't make sense for this
nevermind
I only played one Tower Defense (it seems to be from a TD game?) but I don't think it's that one
another one š
"fullscreen" is included in your itchio embed
thats free
you dont need to add it, you just need to enable it
To be fair, some don't know that
When I do this it keeps the same resolution and makes the rest of the screen black lmao
So I'll just add the unity template with the fullscreen once I can update my build
thats weird, something with unity?
Probably yeah
our screen stuff is completely handled by pygbag's pygame conversion. so idk how it works but i think its just "upscaling"
give ur money
what about both
This is why I would actually take the time to write comments because I'm trying to be genuine
ChatGPT responses
igglyn has been responding to all our comments before i had the chance to, so ive just been letting them at it
Is that a problem that ChatGPT is a Neuro fan too?
this one is actually quite fun
the puzzles are well thought out and the style is pretty nice
Anybody has any that are more action focused? I dont care exactly what genre, but i would like to play something fast paced
https://itch.io/jam/neuro/rate/3213125
This one is pretty good
its a 3D platformer, its rough around the edges but it plays well enough
oh shiiiit alex being kinda based in here
ah if I'm bothering you you can tell me y'know, I have no issues not posting my game, sorry if it bothered you
well more so for the pinned comment but sure i dont like seeing the same games over and over again
I do post a bunch of underrated games here from time to time too haha so if you want some recommendations on what to play there's definitely quite a few underrated gems
Thank you!!
just finished the game haha
Ha ha. As if i had any
the mechanic was really fun and there's some really creative use of it in making the puzzles
props to the team
I'm solo lol
oh nice
but thanks! I really glad you enjoyed the puzzles, I loved making them
I glossed through the credit and saw a few names so I thought it was a team haha
really like the aesthetics you applied to the past and present
yeah mostly was assets that I got
I really wanted to make the future stand out, so I added the lighting effects
I only learned this now but if I had the time I would like to use normal maps to make it more dynamic and prettier
yea that was interesting, the visuals were really well done too
thank you!!
There's so many games
I have to speed up if i wanna play them all
you got 2 more day still
When I heard 'itch app' I thought it was only for mobile or something and now I have learned its so I can play the games safely on my pc. I may be dum.
Until now I'v jus been running the games directly at a risk
For the sandbox you do need to do some stuff manually & enable a checkbox though.
But once set up, it is pretty automatic
this?
it's ok, the viruses keep me company
Viruses here open VRChat
Sureely no one in this community will have joined a game jam just to spread malware
Anyone downloaded Alex's game and had their VRChat randomly open?
I cannot technically rate any game so... i technically have all the time in the universe buuuut...
there's too many
anyone know why this might happen in the itch app (Ok i think i found the problem I should run as admin)
ive used https://sandboxie-plus.com/ previously on windows, you could give it a try
(i actually bought it back in the day)
Remember, the only thing that malware can do on linux, is corrupt the .wine folder.
no you
skip mine, it takes 2-3 hrs to beat, 1 hr with speedrun strats
I'll make sure to at least give it a try, thank you
And i'll make sure to play them all, even after the rating week

make sure to do mine at the very end, saw a comment saying they were supposed to play multiple games, but got stuck trying to beat my game(i think in a good way) for hours
I'm playing them by submision order (From earliest to lastest so... I think Might take me a while to reach yours
)
Not them but I couldn't get past the one where you first receive Anny & Camila
what game are you playing rn?
doing least rated rn, some hidden gems in there
can ya recommend some?
https://itch.io/jam/neuro/rate/3209008 this one is underrated, very nice idle
https://itch.io/jam/neuro/rate/3213388 fun necromancy shennanigans, bit rough around the edge but overall a fun time imo
the flashback one or the present one?
The one where theres like 4 different corners, and if you loose Anny or Camila you don't get them in future games
They are still quite high rated because I only did browser games so far, I'll probably get to downloads only tomorrow
I've "only" managed to play 60 games
This will take me a while. You all did amazing this game jam
I'm at 70 and felt like I was farming, 60 is quite high tbf x)
You have unlocked new role
have camila teleport to the top left, hit twice on the hunter, once on the drone, then return to her previous tile
then have anny kill the damaged drone and retreat to somewhere
have vedal kill the hunter in the south,
build 1 farmer, 2 drones and 2 hunters
turn one and you basically have an army + eco ready
infact, believe it or not, there are 4 missions you can beat on turn 0
wait so if you were playing by order, you might have already played mine
Plug of a game I liked playing but is underated bc it require JRE installed https://itch.io/jam/neuro/rate/3211627
uhhhhh
as I've been told, they added 2nd game instead of existing one for some reason
If I comented on your submission page, means I played yours
so I should play the V2 one then
yea ig
Underrated? My GOD! This is one of the most polished games i played on the jam. It's really good
jre?
Java runtime environnement (aka java)
oh ok
Yeah and got only 5 rating
That why I plug it here !
Is your username on itch infernal ekoro?

so YOU made that game!
Holy heck,
THANK YOU again for making it.
Yeah. I'm reserving yours to complete. It's gonna take me like 10 hours. is THAT crazy.

There was supposed to be a bossfight at the end, but didn't have enough time so I just gave the enemy at ton of numbers
HUUUH??! I Knew the game had potential for expansion!
If you ever keep working on it, i'll wait for that fight.
Btw might I ask, which mission are you on?
I stopped playing after completing evil's flashback mission.
Ooo boy
Youre gonna enjoy the next few levels
Also little tip, if there's a lava lamp, always spawn units
I saw. I know.
I tell you, you cooked super hard on this one.
me when
I found another guy who made a rhythm game type thing in their game :D
(this one: https://itch.io/jam/neuro/rate/3213363)
unfortunately the timing window feels a bit too strict and forward, and the visual indication isn't the best either, but a great concept, combining regular DDR with Osu
oh yah I just played your rythm portion of your game
turns out I suck at rythm games
60% accuracy
Anny still gave me the key tho
I hope you enjoyed the section nonetheless! I tried my best to make it an enjoyable experience
yah it was pretty fun regardless
loved the Neuro and Vedal noises
Yeah getting those voices was quite a thing lmao
ended up having to use a japanese program to generate a chromatic scale
I went full FNF
Mine is about 80th, i hope you'll enjoy it, when you get to it
I considered asking Vedal to voice act "A E I O U" for me along with Neuro, but I didn't dare to, and had a feeling he wouldn't do it anyway, so I had to take random short voice examples instead and make them work against all odds
with some Audacity reverb, it actually ended up sounding pretty alright, which I'm glad about
I was so afraid I'd spend so much time, only to create something that makes people's ears bleed lmao
omg that means you will play my game
i will
Any bozos here with games that need more ratings?
https://itch.io/jam/neuro/rate/3212060 I was in vacation and didn't had the time to plug it here, if you could play it, I would be really happy!
Amazing
Thx
I havent plugged mine today yet https://jaceideu.itch.io/crazy-robot-body-blast-from-the-past
I found a game that has so much potential but ends up being almost completely empty. If they expand on the game, it could become something very interesting
https://itch.io/jam/neuro/rate/3213360
alright taking on yours next
heck
@rotund rampart neuro reviewed your art on stream a second ago
was expecting a plug when it showed up on stream
every art is pixel art if you look close enough
vedal fucked up the scaling a bit I'm afraid š¦
classic vedal
i've just played https://itch.io/jam/neuro/rate/3212060, its a must-play for fans of puzzle games
Are you supposed to be able to double press jump to get extra height and distance? I feel like I'm doing some of your puzzles in unintended ways
Can you please mark your executable as a windows executable? I can't install using the Itch app š
LFGOOOOOO
Cool, someone put it on a pixel canvas
I know this looks like a bad photoshop, it isnt
my art if it was good
hum no? how did you do that?? lmao
it should be fixed now!
bro invented new game mechanic
just spam Space, you'll see for yourself
works on both sides
Uno reverse, hack
I'm not bored, i'm a nacho
Any good stuff rolled out of the jam everyone?
bruh that's why playtest is important lol
I joined the last hours, made a player controller, got some objects in, couldn't be bothered with their functions, and drank beer insteadšŗ
I think I know why that happens but still thats so weird
but am down to judge š
any of these your entries, otherwise i'll just leave feedback on reddit
the middle one is mine, the other two are games by Eri and Superbot that I found to be fun and interesting
thank you!
how bout this? Shameless Plug
https://itch.io/jam/neuro/rate/3212401
will def try this, love the art style of the characters already, the field itself reminds me of megaman network š
its something like advance wars/wargroove
Not mine but liked it and has low rated count ! https://itch.io/jam/neuro/rate/3211627
Just completed it. Really fun!
Thanks for playing it!
Shameless plug: https://itch.io/jam/neuro/rate/3213335.
Well that sucks
And it's very informative as well
Very much a fan of how weird the icon of this game is
It was a hard drive icon, then it became the UMT icon, then the Steam icon and it was the volume mixer icon for a sec
No clue how that even happens
btw the jam was only 3 days right?
yea
including the bonus hour, in my timezone it was 12/27 @ 11a - 12/30 @ 12p (73 hours)
i clicked your website and the last of my braincells has just received a steroids injection, it is growing from the knowledge I found
uwaaaaaa
what the hell happened?
click the link only if you want to be enlightened
the website is... unique
oh no im being perceived
which one chief?
https://fenny.moe probably

LOOOL
over 4k total ratings
Maybe is the JAVA version? I think it needs java 1.8 or something?
https://itch.io/jam/neuro/rate/3213022 daily plug :D
Looks good to me
Java games should always try to come with an included JVM or something
People don't really care because Java is very often already installed in one way or another
Never planned to play Minecraft on my laptop though so no Java
Then no idea.
I just think my laptop is outdated, I got it around 2018
Even games made in Unreal screams at me that my drivers aren't good
bro how did you pull this off in 3 days, did you skip breathing to save time? o_O
Minecraft actually comes with its own Java runtime and is dependent on newer versions of Java than the usual 1.8 everyone installs
All Java applications I make also usually come with a JVM included with a run script
slept 16 hrs before the jam, woke up 1-2 hrs before the jam, preped everything(open laptop, music, pictures of neuroverse characters), made the game, time spent on game 64hr, slept 4 hrs 2 times. thats about it, thats all i can do as a solo dev
plus its built on a really simple but stupid strong engine
that used to be the case back in like 2010 when everyone played runescape but not anymore :P
i mean theres still so many apps that use java
really?
im pretty sure with minecraft at least you have to install java separately
so i assumed with the others it would be like that too
i usually installed java anyway for minecraft so i didnt check for other java apps if it came with it lol
im like 99% sure minecraft downloads java itself or just comes with it
maybe things changed since last time i used windows
which engine?
Scratch
and damn that's impressive lol
never heard of scratch, will definetly give that a look š
breh you even made states for when turns are used and so
Least dedicated Neuro enjoyer/scratch gigachad, I only could spend 48 hours.
reminds me of BVS, just looks much more approachable for your every day hobbyist lol
yeah its extremely simple
btw may i ask, what stage is the highest that you beat and how long is the total play time?
Sorry about that! That is a hardware incompatibility error. I created a version of the game without JRE requirement and with lower hardware requirements, but it was created after the game jam so it cannot be used for rating the game. If you're interested, look for "Evil's Gateway" on my website found on my itch.io profile.
what do you mean you made in scratch?????????????
look at the image
thats insane
holy shit how did you managed to do that intire game on scratch??? in 3 days?????
thats really impressive
alright heres the thing
most of the work went into mechanics
as to how i was able to make so many levels
this thing is a custom block for spawning allies
i basically built a level editor that makes me just copy paste and change cords/direction/units
honestly I only played the tutorial and level 1
oh wow, thats really cool
but that already had spawn rounds and stuff set up
and different allies to buy and use, each with different attack patterns and so
hooo boy, your in for a lot if you play to continue
felt like this game could work as like a final fantasy tactics RPG game, but what may be even cooler is if it had puzzle elements implemented too
but you may already have done that š
yeah well I was already impressed at that point lol
funny story, if you play right, you can beat level 1, 2, 3 and 5 in under 1 turn
I got 5 games thrown at me so i'll hop through those quickly too š
cya ma dude
assuming that has to do with the ranged units?
and lol those could be trophies in a full version š
Minecraft does come with Java, at least now that it requires version 17 or later, since the version listed on the Java website is still Java 8
i see
maybe it would be cool in future levels to need to physically visit that shop with neuro, if you will keep working on this
could add another layer of pathing
once the jam opens im gonna add savefiles, more units, try to implement pass and play and other stuff
like high ground?
I don't know high ground, but you got it š
I mean that neuro would have to visit the tile lol
oh
it would be cool if you remade it in some other engine like godot or unity
limiting shop cant be added, if it does players cant go to the frontlines. it would 100% ruin player experience
i dont have the required skill points for it
dont have enough xp
few tutorials on youtube and you will be good to go, i think you will catch on quickly
Please add sounds, they add so much to immersion
Even some simple ones from online would be fine
can be variations of it right lol, was just a random idea I had anyway
ĀÆ_(ć)_/ĀÆ
coz players would be like... should I go left to the shop... or right for the shorter route... or something š
yeah well whatever you can think of š
maybe it's a robo-suit with nuclear weaponry, heck I dunno
I already have that covered
just thought of puzzle elements when I played it š
and if you can pull this off in 3 days in scratch then i'm sure you can get things done in godot/unity/unreal lol
just another learning curve you gotta hurdle through
I kindly refuse
š I suck at coding so I get that
nah, i just dont want to switch engines
Lmao I can feel that
Still using paint as only software to draw
@lavish escarp what a reversal, ladies and gentlemen
Counterplug! >:D
https://itch.io/jam/neuro/rate/3213344
I love when unity games take 100% of my gpu and stop twitch from working
best feature
30mb + 1 to 2 mb of saves and the permission to add your savefile to your browser(optional) is all i can offer
working on ellies section of the game now, heres a little teaser OWO
YOOOO
if your game doesn't brick my pc it's bad, and has bad graphics and you are a bad dev
true
The one that was "no time"?
yep
Nice
If your game doesn't break my laptop then it's optimized better than paint
also gotta carry some boxes
Looks interesting already
u move slower the more boxes you insist on stacking at once
so reasonable people would just move boxes one at a time c:
I've been fixing up bugs and stuff in my jam entry, and it came time to remake the movement.
My camera and player used to jump around by tile, and it felt choppy/jumpy/low-fps, how's this look to you all?
I made it be by pixel instead, and I don't know if I should go for full camera smoothing or not, as that would make pixels stop being aligned :/
(ignoring the sprite freaking out)
What's your entry? I don't think I played it
its 10 times better now
honestly
Operation Chicken Nabbing
https://itch.io/jam/neuro/rate/3210589
There's no way I would've been able to do it in time for the jam sadly, I was too rusty with my vector math. Need to get back into messing with Unity in my free time.
I don't think I'll be able to play any game tomorrow so today's the last line for me
did a quick search to see if me or my game have been talked about behind the scenes. I was pleasantly surprised to see it still being positively recommended to others. It's quite a nice feeling ^^
create a velocity variable, set the velocity variable each frame based on user inputs, update the position each frame by adding the velocity variable divided by the FPS, and set the sprite orientation based on the velocity
oh, itās a grid game. is the user interaction meant to feel continuous or turn based?
I'm specifically doing a lot behind the scenes to ensure tile-based movement and keeping the sprite pixels aligned, and some very minor collision avoidance, so I can't jsut do that sadly
It's turn based, but on a timer
The player can act at any time and isn't restricted by the ""turns"" but the environment, guards, and events all happen according to the timer
(You can see the turn timer in the bottom left, events happen when the hand points straight up)
this effectively means the player is stunned and cannot send input while moving, right?
You can send inputs while moving, you can cancel your movement towards something for a movement towards something else (Except once you start an action, like going through a door, in that case you're locked into the action)
Also the player can only click on interactable objects, so you can't just click on a random tile to walk there
alright. with regard to your camera smoothing issue you can probably still do that while retaining pixel alignment by separating true camera position from rendering camera position and calculating rendering camera position by rounding true camera position to nearest pixel
and you totally smooth the true camera position
It's not so much a camera smoothing issue, the player used to move strictly on the grid, like teleporting from 1 tile to the next, and the camera followed suit
That video is my remade movement system that goes by pixel instead, and I was asking to see if that seemed smooth enough for people, since I don't want to go full camera smoothing if I can avoid it, cause that would break pixel alignment
That true position and rounded pixel position is actually what I do for the player and camera already right now, that's the new system
movement is by pixel but the player can only target tiles to move to right
yup
Movement is by pixel, but also by tiles, so you move between tiles pixel by pixel, but you can't be in the middle of 4 tiles ever cause you move along an axis from 1 tile to the next
is occupying a position between tiles gameplay relevant or just cosmetic? i.e youāre basically building tile transition animations
Cosmetic
It's only because the teleporting was too jumpy
*teleporting between tiles
I'll leave it at this for now as my future update and continue to play more games from the people in a an hour or so
ok, then basically when the player issues a move order id calculate the list of tiles youāre going to visit up front, then explicitly create an animation policy like āhow do i move the turtle sprite from where it is currently to tile A in N millisecondsā via manipulating the sprite velocity, then repeat updating position and playing applicable animation until the move orders are exhausted. that would let u replicate the current smoothing but also add more complex things like slowing down or whatever by introducing acceleration
how do you currently handle the case where player moves left but then moves right midway between tiles?
I actually don't plot the path ahead of time, all the room centers have straight lines to each interaction point available, so I just move in the direction of the interaction and have some very simple collision avoidance that checks neighbouring tiles
The sprite will be fixed pretty easily by just checking the direction of movement and applying the correct sprite. Just haven't done so yet cause I've been preoccupied
Like I just need to do (destination - position) and check the sign of X and Y to see if the player is moving a certain direction
alright, sounds good. regarding the tile transition animations i would go for discernible āmovesā from one tile to the next by slowing down and stopping at each tile. this better communicates the actual gamestate to the player while looking better than teleporty
If there's no real gameplay difference between tile positions, you still think it'd look better to have that sort of easing and slow down to signal to the player the tiles? over this sort of more subtle tile system?
I'll try and check it out
if thereās no gameplay difference then its debateable, but there is subtly a difference when the user tries to change direction while mid tile right? i assume they have to finish their next movement
if so indicating the existence of tiles may feel better control-wise than what may feel like arbitrary input lag
also you may want to play with detaching the camera from the sprite and making it pan quickly to the users final destination while the turtle catches up? this would make it easier to click things since they are moving around less often relative to the camera, but youād have to see how it feels
plug incoming
counter plug
https://itch.io/jam/neuro/rate/3212060
better counter plug(with embed)
https://itch.io/jam/neuro/rate/3212060
thank you I don't know why sometimes it doesn't work
you don't have embed perms
you have to type more messages and you'll get them
I've already played your game btw
Actually they don't now that you mention it, as I've coded it the player should be able to change directions mid tile. I don't know if that actually causes any issues though since I hadn't thought about it, I'll have to test....
Detaching the camera doesn't sound bad honestly, I'll have to try it out and play around, might be good
https://itch.io/jam/neuro/rate/3204684
this is a pretty cool game not many people played
Anyone know in Godot if there's a way to change a bunch of AudioStreamPlayer nodes' volumes all at once?
I was thinking I could call get_child_node and just loop through them, but wanted to check if there's a way to group them or something first, might be more efficient
audiobuses ā¤ļø
this shit here
You can set each stream to a bus, then you can use those to set up an options menu.
was about to delete this from my desktop, gonna post this here first, this was the layout of the final level in my game
I am able to play and rate other people's games now
anyone want to recommend me a game?
https://itch.io/jam/neuro/rate/3213344#post-11741025
(plug but don't really recommend)
https://itch.io/jam/neuro/rate/3213324
Daily plug
I'm scared of Neuro64, it's already 4th in popularity
Me too
https://itch.io/jam/neuro/rate/3212755 (morning plug)
It would be pretty funny if it took first place, the dev is a streamer and streamed the development
gluck on them, havent played because not webgl and carpel tunnel damage from 3 days of straight coding
i guess i gotta actually play the abandoned archive demo now to know what boss mechanics to yoink
just like my last year team game
making graphics settings would be a nightmare for me.
aint no way im even considering that
maybe a "lighting" toggle if im feeling generous
Didn't we have settings? Or they were added after the gamejam?
Yep we added after the game jam
sadly
what happens if a non-RTX pc tries to play??
just tons of lags
your intro/outro was GOATED but we could not follow with the white background
sorry
Don't be sorry, it's okay
looked like that btw (low res bc video)
i was the one who came up with a 3d shooter concept ->
I mean, we have planned to make it a 3d game before the shooter part right ?
Yeah, but shooter adds some complexity to it
Yeah, that was the main issue i suppose
I was lucky to have a developer who knows his tools this year
he showed MyBrazza the ropes
yeah
and 2d is a lot easier
Kinda first time I worked with unity this year but I'm really happy with the result & I kinda start to like unity !
also C# look like java enought for me to be efficient. still a lot confused on some part
Wanna do programming next year, drawing is for losers
can't promise anything yet. Will see on next gamejam
But... but I loved your art this year
That being said real chads do music (not me), the music from Troubleshooting and Abandoned Pub lives rent free in my head
Been also blessed these last two gamejam with goated composers on my own team
I think i reached my peak. Time to learn something new
i think im gonna keep working on neuro wars, add like 2 more campaign, add more units, more heroes, more enemies, smarter enemies, ai allies, more mission types, better art, give it a story and stuff, i think i'll go with that
You know, fair
Ooooo AI allies are kinda neat
Same with story, sounds exciting
Wanna do more for abandoned pub too, but reason says it'll be wiser not to overfocus on one single project that will be forgotten in a month. By reason I mean our lead dev
Every gamejam I want to add a cutscene but end up not having the time to
They're right honestly. But even if the game itself isn't going to be played in a month, maybe there's mechanics and ideas to take away into future stuff
I am improving a couple of tiny things for our game for the post jam & Neuro SDK version, but I want to turn it into an actual game afterwards which would mean changing a lot of the Neuroverse stuff to be not Neuroverse š
Oh yeah, if your game does well this jam then you can expect a spike in plays next jam
had a lot of people playing my last year's entry around the time this year's jam started
We're working on the stuff we initially planned but couldn't add to the game due to the time limit. Also fixing bugs, improving mechanics. We'll add some new stuff though, but not much. I'm reworking the story slightly. Already redrew cocktails to be more distinct.
I did struggle with some of the cocktails especailly the second one that Tony orders
Thought the game was bugged because I made what looked like the right cocktail
Now cocktails are even color-blind friendly
I played the game in gray scale and had no problem
Why does this game ask for an internet access?
https://itch.io/jam/neuro/rate/3211675
to brick the chatters ofcourse
Does it connect to twitch chat API?

*To dox Vedal
Maybe it already has the SDK implemented?
Imagine if the game asks Neuro to ban a random person every time you brick a chatter in-game
If you get banned in the game you get banned in real life
Neuro sends a drone to your location
Then the dev gets hit with a ban as one of those random people

Achievement unlocked: Return to sender
I just realized there's still a day left to the voting phase?
I thought it would end today, that means I can try to play the games I couldn't play and rate them tomorrow, nice
same
I jus checked
for my last year entry
we had a spike in views on december 19th for some reason
yea lol
Oof guys better vote soon
its still one day
o you're right, my last year's entry got some extra love as well o:
and this is what this year's submission looks like so far. I wonder what it'll look like after it gets played on stream (which I hope it does)
I think the neurons might really enjoy the duet
Man I wish it would get played on stream
