Shat I'm sick so I'll be using this message to talk about an interesting phenomenon within the Swarm that is how uniquely cruel we are to Bedal in comparison to other fanbases to their vtuber

Chat bullying their vtuebr is certainly not a novel concept as many vtubers use their chat bullying them as a selling point of their content to the point that they would classify themselves as girlfailures and joke with chat about their shortcomings. This doesn't happen in Medal's case, as this has been the fanbase most openly hostile to their vtuber that I've ever seen (which isn't a lot I'll admit since I haven't really watched many vtuebrs, let alone interacted with their fanbases), but the messages I read on the daily in this official discord server would NOT fly for even a fucking second elsewhere. Is this a bad thing? No lmao I find if hilarious personally but I did wonder why there's leeway for this behaviour that just doesn't exist elsewhere and I can think of three contributing factors and a single bigger reason that I believe, despite not being immediately evident to the average person, reveals some hidden assumptions and loopholes in the way streamers and viewers interact.

1. Vedal is male: Most vtubers are women and most viewers are men, that is a fact. Due to cultural factors in the upbringing of people, it seems evident that the men in the fanbase will be likely to pull their punches to some degree when making fun of their (likely to be a woman) vtuber. Vedal being a man means there is no such considerations made for him.
2. Vedal is not the streamer (most of the time): As Vedal's main role in the channel is that of a programmer rather than a vtuber, it means that the viewers are less likely to treat him with the niceties that would come if he were the streamer. This is a bit of a shaky point as there are a lot of people that are vocal in their support and sometimes preference of Vedal over the twins so I concede that this point could be argued against.

Moderation: Vtubers can use moderation as a tool to set boundaries and general trends in the behaviour of their fanbases, and Vedal's take on moderation which is an almost hands-free approach may have allowed for the development of a fanbase that views it as perfectly fine to treat him with this roughness that I've yet to see elsewhere.

Finally, and what I think is the single biggest reason as to why the fanbase treats Vedal this way, is a subversion on how people interpret streaming.

You see, streaming operates - scratch that, thrives - on the grey zone between authenticity and performance: is streaming a form of self-expression or a tool for entertainers? The best vtubers (and streamers in general) are the ones that operate in this grey zone the best, putting out performances that can be viewed as the streamer's authentic personality. Perhaps this is why so many cases of parasocial behaviour prop up in the streaming sphere, as the less socially adept viewres have a harder time noticing that it's a grey zone and as such interpret the general friendliness of the streamers as genuine and wish to reciprocate it or for the malicious kind, take advantage of it. However, Vedal as the creator of the streamers Neuro and Evil, cannot take full advantage of the grey zone: Neuro and Evil explicitly lean further into the "streaming as a tool for entertainers" side of streaming. Whereas other streamers may deflect some criticism under the guise of "This is who I am" (streaming as a form of expression), Vedal cannot do this as the twins are explicitly made to be entertaining: failures on their capabilities to entertain are no longer part of a streamer's character and instead become bugs to fix, features to implement, parameters to tweak and so on. My point is that in the streaming world that is dominated by obfuscation between expression and a product, the twins are distinctly closer to a product and criticisms are not personal insults but a product review.

I agree that messages a lot of people send here and in twitch chat (even ignoring spam) would be an instant ban in a lot of other communities. This server is also extremely and consistently entertaining and driven, far more so than a lot of others in my opinion. I don't know if its as much the gender thing as another point you mentioned: that vedal allows this to happen with his own on-stream personality and lack of direct interaction (enforcement) with the majority of the fanbase. An example I think of is koko's community also "hating" her in a very similarly funny way to this one, though there is certainly some viewer overlap.

While I think viewing neuro and evil as products is literally correct, personally I find it hard to fully separate them from their creator. If neuro is funny one day, I might just say "good stream," but I am also inherently satisfied by vedal's work for that day, whatever it could have been. Similarly, a "bad stream" where twins go off the rails or integrations don't work causes me instinctive disappointment for the missed potential - which I will admit often manifests in my mind as "vedal could have done more," even as I recognize my own ignorance on the topic and keep quiet for that reason. I would hazard a lot of this channel feels similarly; the most common criticisms I see certainly don't come across like objective product reviews.
