to have that real time awareness you'd have to completely remake the entire concept of modern AI from scratch, so that it would allow for a more effective structure of "stimulus and response". currently LLMs are entirely made to fit as much as possible into one response, which makes it seem kind of human, but it also limits the entire cycle and only makes the separation between stimulus and response clearer.

you basically input something into a very advanced search engine and get some output once, that's it. meanwhile, to achieve real-time awareness, you would have to throw this out of the window and make a complete working structure out of many (possibly closer to biological) small "stimulus and response" cycles, instead of putting it all into one thing. that would require a ridiculous amount of new research and fundamental changes

ergo, we won't see anything truly real-time from AIs in the near 5-10 years
