without writing an essay, the basic concept is inspired by actual brain neurons, but the training of modern neural networks uses some "hacks" that aren't anything like how our brains work (they sorta work in reverse with the answer being known).

I think it's best to see it as analogous to certain limited portions of how our brains may work, but understand that there are some fundamental differences

As a string theorist (phd) I think I can speak from experience on this: When there's only 1 path that actually seems promising (LLMs/transformers), even if it's pretty obvious it's not the actual final path, it won't stop people from pursuing it anyway because it allows people to actually publish results.

Yes actually, continuous thinking machines (neurons actually firing similar to that in animal brains allowing for computation to be continuous), neuromorphic compute, further development in learning techniques, virtual environments, etc, are all very promising emerging technologies in this regard.

you kinda have to marry two different approaches together. we have AI-based robotic motion done today in real environments, but they're specifically trained to function in a real environment; whereas Neuro is coming from the opposite direction
