RFO-BASIC! Manual

Welcome! This wiki documents RFO-BASIC! versions 1.91/1.92/1.92.1, a BASIC interpreter that runs on Android, with a program text editor, that lets old-style programmers quickly write apps with access to most of the device's features, including web surfing, telephony, and texting. This manual is based on the published manual, plus comments the ...

"Today's young wireless users are very tech savvy and they expect high-performance phones at an affordable price," said Masahiro Inoue, president and CEO of Kyocera Wireless Corp. "The Kyocera 2135 is our answer to the demand we've received from customers and carriers alike. With this phone's improved ergonomics and expanded features, we believe Kyocera has once again raised the bar for others in this category."

Press releases halt in 2017 despair

fast pagoda
#

Yep

#

Phones were basically on arm cores pretty pronto with cdma2000

#

The act of being a cellphone at least in cdma world essentially requires that level of horsepower

#

I wish I had kept my old CDa players

#

Saw some portable ones selling for like $100

#

And they're like shitty

#

I'm officially old enough to have my childhood formats come back in vogue for vibe reasons

#

Earliest thing I can remember with music was my compact tape copy of rush's hemispheres that I played on one of those plastic ass kids boomboxes

split steppe
#

darn

#

what an experience

fast pagoda
#

That was truly living

#

Was all downhill from there for me

split steppe
#

my dad once brought home a random cassette with some experimental music from god knows where, and it's etched into my brain ever since, like 20 years later i remember it. my brother wrote over it cuz he wanted to make a mixtape. i was very sad and i wonder to this day what that cassette contained.

fast pagoda
#

That's the worst

#

The fragment of like the feeling of listening to it

#

But being unable to place it

split steppe
#

it was some real funky shit too, and i miss it a lot

fast pagoda
#

There is a random live version of love rollercoaster by the Ohio players

#

That I used to have recorded

#

And I've lost it

#

Will never find it again

split steppe
#

rip

fast pagoda
#

There's a surprising amount of random stuff just gone from the Internet

#

If you go looking

#

It's like oh

#

Not immutable turns out

split steppe
#

for sure, i think it's estimated that like 60% or so of any given content that was on the Web has permanently vanished

#

it's all literally built on sand

fast pagoda
#

I could believe it for sure

#

Even if you know exactly what you're looking for

split steppe
#

what a joke permalinks are huh

fast pagoda
#

This is why I get infinity storage

split steppe
#

ipfs is kind of neat in that regard

#

content addressed global decentralized filesystem

#

if you know the hash you can probably eventually fetch it

#

i guess bittorrent also

fast pagoda
#

i was gonna say ive never heard but im reading it and it reads like ultra bittorrent

split steppe
#

it's basically that

fast pagoda
#

bittorrent taken to its conclusion

#

do you even know what you're sharding

#

probably not for most of it ig

split steppe
#

not really, and half of it is definitely illegal lol

fast pagoda
#

request a hash
90% is already in ur local store

#

yeah was gonna say

#

that sounds like a liability issue

#

plausible deniability ig

split steppe
#

the downsides of distributed systems

fast pagoda
#

ah AA uses this

#

i see

tender river
#

other networks also work like that

fast pagoda
#

yeah i immediately was thinking tor and then literally everything followed as i sent that

tender river
#

freenet (hyphanet now), and in japan winny, share and perfect dark

fast pagoda
#

i2p

tender river
#

basically, node operators are assumed to be good faith, and if someone uses their capacity for evil law says node operators are innocent

fast pagoda
#

yep
i should slap a tor node among others on my netherlands unit

#

oh has tor exploded yet from onionflation

tender river
#

thats certainly a way to get your ip on random blacklists

fast pagoda
#

yeah that's the issue innit

split steppe
#

your isp is still gonna be unhappy about you hosting some of these ha

fast pagoda
#

not technically liable but negative attention

#

yewah

#

yeah

split steppe
fast pagoda
#

well that's the purpose of that system to route back and forth instead of directly from my connexion

tender river
#

its best to contact your isp or hosting provider beforehand

#

since chances are they're gonna have to deal with email complaints

fast pagoda
#

they are

#

let's say expecting those

split steppe

you could plausibly now send 900 physical pages of complaint by yourself 🤔

#

that's like 1.9 standard parcels of paper

fast pagoda

we got rid of fax at my company which is crazy to me because insurance industry

i don't even know why fax stayed for so long

fast pagoda

reliable

#

worked for what it did

#

cheap

#

fast

#

easy to remember a phone number

#

everyone already had phone lines etc

#

and then fax2ip

#

old boomer offices didnt have to change workflow could still send things via fax

split steppe
#

hmmm, actually, fax sounds great now that i read about it

fast pagoda
#

one of those things that are actually great but get replaced with something "better"

#

tell ya rarely had issues receiving whatever the fuck by fax

leaden crest
fast pagoda
#

20 years now of issues with email

leaden crest

(I dont know what fax is)

fast pagoda
split steppe
fast pagoda

via phone number

instead of an email address

leaden crest
split steppe
#

sms but long via printer

#

lms

fast pagoda
#

send full documents by scanning them at a fax machine, send over wire to another fax that printed it out

leaden crest
#

that’s pretty cool actually

fast pagoda
split steppe
#

:V

#

wow gramps, you sure lived in epic times

#

i've never personally used fax, but i wonder if they would set it up if i wanted it for my corp

fast pagoda
#

you can still easily use ip fax

#

we still receive faxes but just dont originate them usually (although we can)

#

just all digital

#

there's even a specific fax protocol that is sent using email transport

split steppe
#

hmm, but it's not quite the same, what i would want it for is the redundancy of separate physical lines and harder interception

fast pagoda
#

if you can still get a copper phone line

#

you can probably still get a fax line

leaden crest
#

A fax machine would be a cool component of an escape room

#

somehow

#

idk separated escapees or smth

fast pagoda
#

tfw that would stump people

split steppe
#

now that's an idea

split steppe
#

it's an escape room, it's meant to stump you

fast pagoda
#

yeh im saying that it would is

#

not their fault

split steppe
#

fast pagoda
#

just crazy to me

#

i mean y'all ever wonder why your photocopiers at work and such have a phone dialpad?

leaden crest
#

wait lowk

#

split steppe
#

i think it's worth having redundant independent comms lines though

leaden crest
#

using niche understanding of various tech through the years

split steppe
#

use an actual teletype

fast pagoda
#

and you'll find if there are any providers

#

POTS = plain old telephone service

split steppe
fast pagoda

fast pagoda

fast pagoda

that place is so funky

split steppe

so they will just go away as the carriers decide

fast pagoda
#

silent island
signal trout
#

I think it's unlikely steam will die any time soon...

#

probably one of the most stable distributers

fast pagoda
#

steam does not have any preservation aspect to it other than the platform likely staying around as it's the biggest marketplace

hard delta
#

you generally have never owned and will never own most online games that require a server to be played

#

like the main worry isn't even the platform going away, it's the servers

#

games that you can host for multiplayer, or are entirely singleplayer are much healthier to the archivist paranoia

#

especially if they didn't have drm that was too hardcore SMILE

silent island
#

well, consoles have some 'kind' of preservation, from emulation, but steam?
arent they not truly drm free?

fast pagoda
#

the main thing with steam or any storefront that doesnt give you drm free access is that if they revoke the license or go under you suddenly cant play the game itself because it can no longer authenticate

#

that problem doesnt exist if the game is offline installed w/ no authentication (aka truly drm-free)

#

GOG you can still lose access to a game by them removing it but they cant remove your local copy of it

hard delta
#

i'm generally more worried about niche, less played games

#

that don't have enough people who are nostalgic about them

fast pagoda
#

well it's like there are xbox360 era games now where the servers are shutdown and that's that

hard delta
fast pagoda
#

eh that part im less nervous about, worst case you can use original hardware

hard delta
#

should it still exist at that point evilShrug

#

and at that point you'd also have to somehow fetch drivers for it from scary chinese site 27

fast pagoda
#

as long as it's still a similar platform available it should be aight

silent island
hard delta
#

old version of windows, old version of drivers, old version of this and that

fast pagoda
#

you can launch a menu maybe

hard delta
#

i'm somewhat pessimistic because any attempt at good large-scale conservation gets shut down by greed anyway

fast pagoda
#

i can play windows games from the 90s on linux without a second thought just fine right now i dont think it'll be a big deal as long as it's a game that doesnt require a phone home

silent island
#

as long as console emus and roms continue to exist, there's still hope for preservation.
i think its time for me to buy games on consoles lmaaooo

hard delta
#

and since game development has been turned into this high turnover turf war, you can't expect the developers and studios of games to be around in 20 years and just release to a new platform

fast pagoda
silent island
hard delta
fast pagoda
#

it is

#

it's just the whole point of it is what's being discussed p much

#

honestly if you care at all about accessing your games if they are a console related thing you should seek out original hardware where you can and hard copies of the games, never trust a digital copy of anything will stick around forever, nor that things will just work

#

even PC games as well, there's no real heavy burden to just buying some ewaste to keep around to load up era-appropriate stuff as long as you can store it somewhere to keep it in good shape

hard delta
#

i feel somewhat lucky in these terms anyway cause most of the games i care about long term were usually single player and didn't have strong drm or crazy graphics anyway

fast pagoda

Windows XP Service Pack 3 (SP3) was officially released to the public on April 29, 2008. It was finalized on April 21, 2008

#

i feel like this was the last few years before the paradigm started to shift
it's hard to explain, but back at that time it felt like the computer is just a tool that gets stuff done, be it work, study, gaming, communication, etc. it was ugly and trusty, got the job done, didn't get in the way, and wasn't hard or awkward to use. it was time capsule-ready, it was -your- friend.

beyond this point tho, some evil genius had the magical idea of turning the user into the product, terms of services started to pop up on websites, things generally became more live and service-y, more addicted to updates, and everything went kinda downhill

#

it's like having an arm vs having a tumor

#

the arm is yours, you use it, it's on team you. even if it's a prosthetic, it was attached to you and now it does your and only your bidding.

#

current computers/phones are more like a tumor, they're doing their own thing, you didn't really want them to be there but they are now, and at least you can mostly coexist, until the hivemind that owns them decides that you're not profitable enough

#

like idk the hardware is mostly fine still, as long as you can have some wizard guy on a mailing list cook up some drivers for linux or something

but that feeling of "i'm cooking on my computer, it's just me in here" is definitely gone when on windows, or when on any phone app, website, and so on. you just instinctively know there's 6-8 things reading whatever you're typing

rough bloom
true hemlock
#

meant to deliver like 60A

#

im using HOTA T6 for my balance charger

#

it takes 10~30V DC in

#

with xt60

#

so that's why

true hemlock
#

but the xt60 ain't surviving that

#

dude i remembered some cunt welded their xt90 by shorting it on a 6S lipo

#

also i'll have to use a buck

#

24v too high for my relays

#

12v would be optimal for the dpdt

#

and the 2 spst aswell

rough bloom
true hemlock
#

eh i just ordered some fuses for cheap

#

5 fuse holder + 15,20,25,30,35,40 amps fuse 5 each

#

for like $9

#

will use 30A fuse on the battery -> DC PSU

#

will use 25A on the AC PSU -> DC PSU when charging

rough bloom
#

surely you can just

#

use voltage divider

true hemlock
#

coils sometimes gets screwed yeah

#

eh bucks are cheap

#

and i have like

#

hundreds

rough bloom
#

oh

#

ye if you already have a ton lying around then it's fine

true hemlock
#

look at how beefy the relay is lmao

#

idk if i should do both the +24V and GND for switching between the battery and AC PSU
shared GND should be fine so i think i'll just do +24V

#

this low budget diagram ig

#

the GND is all connected lmfao

#

DC PSU -> battery i'll do NO (Normally Open)

#

DC PSU -> AC PSU gets the NC

rough bloom
true hemlock
#

because the relay default should be battery. the trigger is when it detects power incoming from the charging line

true hemlock
#

yk

#

microseconds of desync and shit

rough bloom
#

would need lag relay to do it properly I think

#

not worth

true hemlock
#

im so happy i don't have to worry about voltage regulation

#

my DC PSU takes 12~48V in

#

with like thousands (potentially even MHz) of voltage switch cycles so its pretty sensitive

#

battery ranges 25.2v to 19.8v

#

my default AC PSU is 24.2v

#

directly switching from 19.8v to 24.2v should be perfectly fine

#

just hoping for no ripples

#

might wanna test that one out with oscilloscope

#

charger potentially pulls 300W alone

#

leaves 180W for the PC when charging

#

its fine the AC inverter has OCP

#

oh best part

#

my charger also supports usb c charging

rough bloom
#

real notebook

#

just

#

10x bigger

true hemlock
#

i should def get a 280W power brick for the usb c lol

#

though the charger only pulls 90W from usb c

#

but yeah, supplying more on the pc itself when charging

rough bloom
#

still fairly new

true hemlock
#

i can't wait to whip out this beefy 480W charger during lecture

#

the balance charger will be integrated in the pc itself

#

so all it wants is DC in

rough bloom
#

oh yeah

#

need enclosure for that AC PSU if you want that to be external

Hi, I'm new to this discord. I believe I have an optimization for the GMML q4_0 dot product which usually has a CPU bottleneck. I've wrote two fixes to replace the standard C fallbacks. One in ARM and one in x86. I verified both with the test-quantize -fns suite with 0 fails and parity accurate, so it should improve speed. Also, I added the evidence in the comments to the gists.

Also, DF made AMD RR look worse than Nvidia's by using dlss 4.5, which is heavily than FSR 4 to make AMD look far more intensive to run than it was

#

(yes you may say it is a working datatype, but I'm looking to do bitwise logic which is unimplmented)

torch.int64

#

they make it sound like uint64 is missing a bunch things but int64 does not

amber fractal
#

Don't know why I never tested that

opaque sigil
#

Unsigned types asides from uint8 are currently planned to only have limited support in eager mode (they primarily exist to assist usage with torch.compile); if you need eager support and the extra range is not needed, we recommend using their signed variants instead. See pytorch/pytorch#58734 for more details.

#

hmm

amber fractal

uint64 has bitwise on CPU, which is good to know for NN, and int64 has support on CUDA
