They were doing surprisingly well. When I last watched the screen they were already far past this, zipping around the world near the starting place, at one point chasing a bird.
I had just taken a screenshot of the tools al together and was about to paste it here when the computer crashed.
I think the main problem was it was using a non-turbo model which took like 30 steps to get an image that looks ok instead of the not much lower quality but incredibly much faster one which doesn't take tens of seconds to render. Otherwise it wouldn hardly've user any GPU at all most of the time. I think i've fixed that.

Ducks aren't usually categorized as different species rather than "breeds". However, Muscovy ducks as example are technically a different species from the general group of duck breed descended from Mallards. Such breeds that came from Mallards include: Pekins, Runners, Callducks, Rouen, Campbell duck, and some even more niche sub-breeds historically coming from few specific farmlands such as the popular Crested duck.
The specific duck breed of " Quack", considering the profile picture of the person, might be the common breed Pekin.

It's not that it's uninteresting, I think we all have been in a similar place at once point or another having a Neuro project, nature of being someone inclined to click on programming channel

This channel is basically anything technical not just programming

But yeah there's been a variety of "I'm gonna give Neuro a body" lines of inquiry before, so the idea itself is what it is, a challenge
If you start going into specifics about it then that's when people might have input to discuss but of course that just depends on who is around etc

#

It's not particularly busy in here right now in general so

Like for me I'm just posting this laptop junk because I felt like sharing but don't expect anyone to care really

eager briar

Oh! I was gonna show off the UI but it appears I'm not cool enough to post pictures yet... That's fine..

The upshot is to give the twins a persistent, simulated body that emulates the biological processes of a real one,,,

Idk if it could build anything for neuro sama so im just building my own robot and if it goes well maybe vedal will notice it and implement it. Right now im working on an artificial limbic system but I am first creating a more neuromorphic spiking neural network...idk how well it will go...probably poorly...the last one worked in that the neurons were very similar to real neurons but it didnt do anything useful. But if I can get it working I intend to put it in a simulated avatar.

fast pagoda
#

Convincing reproduction or rolled off the same line Hmm

eager briar
#

Well, it's actually coming from a project I did ages ago. (Like a decade) The idea was to hook up the body to a neuro-network, but back then my code-foo was weak. I got the body simulation somewhat working, but plugging it into something proved to be a challenge. However I was digging around in som old files and found the code and my ADHD-hyper focus thing took off and I've been obsessed for about a week and a half now.

#

If anything the UI is cute!

Right now I have an avatar of Evil and you can select various internal organs to see how they are doing.

#

We have @amber fractal who has been working on a bitwise neural network for a while, his project is interesting along those lines

Lot of us mess with llm junk and train/fine-tune random sorts of ml stuff as well so there's often talk around that sort of things

I need to get back to ever messing with a frontend again I used to spend a lot of time trying to make things pretty

fast pagoda

# young oyster What is that?

Well you see, I decided floats were cringe; so instead of just converting to ints like everyone else I'd just have bitwise operational logic

mighty thorn
#

Also

mighty thorn
#

Like 3 years later I decided to look at gpt4 paper

#

100 pages of “technical report” and yet not a single piece of technical information, truly astounding

young oyster
#

I heard recently a single neuron can perform an xor operation

fast pagoda
#

A biological neuron can and often is construed to be essentially more of a complete neural network in the computing sense

#

Iike being a able to xor, perceptrons cannot xor

amber fractal
# young oyster Go on...

I opted to go for pattern matching, works decently well but taking a break to gain knowledge before continuing from the inital testing

fast pagoda
#

There was a paper a few years ago trying to model a bio neuron with a computer based neural net, and it took like 1000 weights/neurons and it had to be like 5+ layers deep to actually model a neuron

amber fractal
eager briar
fast pagoda
opaque sigil
fast pagoda
#

2>1 it's hard brah

young oyster
#

in my case i decided to model the neurons as signal processors...essentially the spike train gives the frequncy, the synapse gives the amplitude the threshold, exponential decay function, and refractory period gives the output signal

mighty thorn
#

If human brains are so good

fast pagoda
#

Why am I an idiot?

#

My choices

young oyster
#

the the waveform only takes the positive part of the wave and adds them up, or subtracts them in the case of inhibitory neurons.

young oyster
mighty thorn
#

Maybe nature should stop making larger numbers of simplistic digital neurons work better than smaller numbers of complex digital neurons

fast pagoda
young oyster
amber fractal
fast pagoda
#

You are basically describing it like a dsp which kinda implied a bit of a flatness to it, to fit the analogy I guess I'm pointing at the voltage along the transmission wire (the axon) gradient is part of the signal processing being done and does meaningful work on the input from the from the spatial dimension that a lumped DSP model drops. Like the axon isn't just a wire, the propagation itself is computing as well

young oyster

If that makes literally any sense at all

# young oyster i model the variance from axon length as an offset on the spike train. so the sp...

Oh, I'm not disagreeing your approach, in case it came off that way (sorry). I think it's a good way to frame it, the shift register framing is nice because it brings back that spatial/timing dimension that usually gets flattened out. But there's still stuff it doesn't capture since the signal isn't just delayed along the axon, it's actively modified by the ion channels along the neuron, the randomness that comes from the myelination having a bit of randomness to it, and with that biochemical state that acts like a hidden memory bringing information forward and affecting the next inputs. That's the part that makes a single neuron closer to a small network than a single processing element so I was more expanding on what else I think is missing in a computational model although I do agree with the approach completely

#

I do be talking

#

Basically all I was trying to say was there's a lot going on and the normal view of one being similar to an artificial neuron is way oversimplified so anything that brings that back is A step very much in the right direction for modeling it

#

I say all these words and this whole time I've been trying to unplug one(1) wire like a caveman

#

15 years no explosion a la galaxy note 7 and no bulging battery a la apple

#

That's crazy

young oyster
#

this is a lot different from an artificial neural network...timing is a very important thing and i'm trying to capture as much of the neurological processes as is reasonable.

so, the sumation of the inputs from the dendrites form a waveform which is some f(t) a spike happens if f(t)>threshold AND the neuron is not in a refractory period. i may be able to make an f(t) for that as well which incorporates the leakeage rate, the threshold, and refractory time but that will be an area of continuing research, at the moment i'm taking spikes in turn. idk if i need to worry about race conditions since this is an inherently timing based NN.

but there isn't any like partial derivatives or matrix multiplication like normal artificial neural networks...i'm aiming for neuromorphic design. the second part is neuromodulators which are the main reason i'm making this (other than...you know...fun)

fast pagoda
#

Definitely cool, the closest thing of a "traditional" nn I think of is spiking neural nets/snn, of course it's not that but that's what it makes me think of

#

Definitely cool, the closest thing of a "traditional" nn I think of is spiking neural nets/snn, of course it's not that but that's what it makes me think of

#

And re: Neuromodulators that's exactly the hidden dimension mostly lost with other approaches so sounds promising

young oyster
#

i don't know all the intricacies of how neuromodulators work, but i'm simulating the nn using shaders, so i will be giving the neurons a pixel location and in turn neuromodulators will be a field that covers some number of neurons and increases or decreases the amplitude of synapses in the area.

fast pagoda
#

Intel has a chip called loihi

young oyster
#

but i suspect that will need some tweaking

fast pagoda
#

That models something called sigma delta Neural nets where they used to do spiking

young oyster
#

since synapses aren't always close to the cell body, so some could be inside the area and others outside and i don't know if this design accounts for that

fast pagoda
#

Might be interesting if you haven't looked in to how they are approaching it

fast pagoda
#

Oops don't mean to reply with that

young oyster
#

i seen some examples of spiking neural networks but they always work in a very ANN way...with some number for the neuron and differentiable activation function and partial differentials just different in...afaik how they learn. kinda like predictive coding (which was my first go to for my neuromodulator experiments)

fast pagoda
#

Sdnn take it further in your direction

#

They are of course still descended from the ann side but they are event driven equivalents to sigma delta modulators like those used in dac or analogue -> digital where you want a good signal to noise ratio, they basically operate by shaping the noise with a negative feedback loop to push the noise to higher frequencies

amber fractal

How do I get prism

I was planning modrinth

#

But I gotta grab flatpak

#

And I heard a lot of people hate on flatpaks

#

God imagine neuro on wows

fast pagoda
livid smelt
#

Noted

fast pagoda
#

sudo pacman -S paru will install an aur helper called paru that will sort wrap pacman

#

makes it so you dont have to use sudo every time

#

and also you can then do stuff like

livid smelt
#

I see

fast pagoda
#

paru prism and then it'll give you a list of all the packages that could match

#

you can do that with pacman too

trim valve
#

how on earth am I getting locked database errors

fast pagoda
#

but

#

it's easier

livid smelt
#

Why is octipi having trouble grabbing shit tho

trim valve
#

isn't the whole point of a database pool like

#

that it doesn't do that

livid smelt
#

Should I jump ship from octipi?

fast pagoda
livid smelt
#

Ngl I barely understand it

fast pagoda

i used it when i first used cachy after swapping to linux this most recent time

trim valve

oh neuroPogHD

but then i got used to just using pacman/paru

trim valve

its the timeout error

fast pagoda

or yay

Yay?

which is just paru

livid smelt

Ah

#

Ngl seems legit

fast pagoda

you can also get

parui

livid smelt

fast pagoda
trim valve

im trying to find duplicate files

but clearly

fast pagoda

ntfs isnt the worst thing ever though

trim valve
#

sqlite does not agree

livid smelt
#

My plan is. Buy a 4tb ssd and clone shit as needed

#

Or smth

amber fractal
#

Only ntfs I have is old windows drive which I'm not booting from

fast pagoda
#

i'd just move everything to one drive and fully wipe over to btrfs or ext4 or whatever you want to use

#

then do th same

livid smelt
#

Thats the plan

fast pagoda
#

that's what i did

livid smelt
#

I have several drives of various capacities and types

fast pagoda
#

i had used linux on and off but never stuck with it long term

trim valve
#

how on earth am I timing out the poll what

opaque sigil
fast pagoda
#

cachy fixed that

trim valve
#

why is it prioriting reading more files vs actually inserting them

livid smelt
#

I like it a lot

#

Its just hard trying to figure out where things are file system wise

#

And folders

fast pagoda
#

slopmode says there's a flag called PRESSURE_VESSEL_FILESYSTEMS_RW that you can add to launch config

#

Proton simulates a Windows environment, expecting Windows NTFS-style filesystems and specific save locations, meaning direct saving to native Linux file systems is not possible through the simulated Windows path. However, Proton does simulate a Windows file system within its own 'prefix' directory, allowing Windows applications to store data in paths that appear to be on a C:\ drive, with these paths mapped to corresponding Linux directories like drive_c/users/steamuser/AppData/Local on the host system. To allow Proton to access non-Windows paths on your Linux system, you can add PRESSURE_VESSEL_FILESYSTEMS_RW="/some/path:/other/path" to the launch parameters for your game or application in Steam, which shares specific directories with the container that Proton uses.

opaque sigil
#

actually

fast pagoda
#

dunno if that will help tho

opaque sigil
#

you can just use ntfs3, that worked for me at least

fast pagoda
#

is that hte new one

livid smelt
#

No

#

Ntfs plus is

trim valve
livid smelt
#

I use that

trim valve
#

do I just solve my problem by adding a time.sleep

livid smelt
#

Maybe

fast pagoda
#

i definitely used ntfs-3g hwen i had an ntfs drive and it worked fine

olive sable
#

I have made it square NeuroBounce
Now i just need to figure out how to make it do 4225hz

opaque sigil
#
  fileSystems."/mnt/games" = {
    device = "/dev/disk/by-uuid/1260ED5460ED3F5B";
    fsType = "ntfs3";
    options = [
      "defaults"
      "uid=1000"
      "gid=media"
      "umask=0002"
      "rw"
      "discard"
    ];
  };

my ntfs games drive, do with that what you will FOCUS

opaque sigil
#

proton had an aneurysm with the other ntfs driver

trim valve
#

my code works

olive sable
#

well, for this projector

livid smelt
#

For me my plan is just full swap to butter one drive at a time and clone shit as needed

trim valve
#

idk how its read 50TB of files

opaque sigil
#

cause it has directories like c: which you cannot do on windows

livid smelt
#

Real

#

Im trying to not be and free myself of windows

#

Slowly

fast pagoda
# livid smelt And I heard a lot of people hate on flatpaks

i recommend avoiding them solely because they have weird limitations and i expect shit like my terminal to be able to do terminal stuff without problems (lotta terminals are available as flatpaks for reasons i'll never understand, they all say "DONT USE THIS" in the description too)

#

if you want to use a portable format for linux just use appimage tbh

#

otherwise theyre fine

livid smelt
#

Well modrinth is flatpak only neuroLookUp

#

And it is my preferred launcher

fast pagoda
#

brother

livid smelt
#

But im hype for Java finally jumping to Vulkan LFG LFG

fast pagoda
#

do not underestimate the AUR

#

it's right there in paru

livid smelt
opaque sigil
#

flatpak is overall more reliable, appimages rely on whoever packages them to not be an idiot

fast pagoda
livid smelt
#

Teach me that sometime

amber fractal
#

flatpak is not really good the instant you need outside FS access, something I needed when I loaded that flatpak

opaque sigil
#

I don't want to have to add libraries manually

opaque sigil
#

at that point I may as well just compile from source

fast pagoda
#

i do that all the time

#

preferably honestly

amber fractal
#

I just use prism for MC

trim valve
#

i really hope this is counting wrong jesus christ

livid smelt
trim valve
livid smelt
#

Always used basic launcher or Modrinth or atl

#

I miss the old launcher to this day agony

Uhhhh

#

Will do this stuff tmw

#

Currently scanning my windows install for virus

fast pagoda
livid smelt
#

Dope

fast pagoda
#

if you follow the setup on there then you will have them show up in your results

livid smelt
fast pagoda
#

the AUR stops me from not using arch tbh

#

so frequently

#

it's lazy

#

but it has just about anything

#

there is a wariness to keep about you since it's use repo that's what it stands for

#

arch user repository

livid smelt
#

Iv been told

#

to be careful on there

#

the AUR can be dangerous eyesFlipped

fast pagoda
#

it's really fine as long as you pay attention

#

like

#

if you search chrome

#

and for some reason scroll past the real package with 389047u190384 upvotes and such

#

and install "gwelgle chrom" with 0 score

#

it's over

livid smelt
#

so typically high upvotes = safer?

opaque sigil
fast pagoda
#

not 100% but yes people will not ignore packages that ruin their life

#

nix does have more than AUR

#

that's the one repo that is better than AUR

#

to me

trim valve
#

do yall ever forget to add a limit clause

opaque sigil
livid smelt
fast pagoda
livid smelt
#

I know cachy have their own repo

opaque sigil
fast pagoda
#

yeah theirs shows up with extra and whatnot

#

theirs is safe because it's of course maintained by the distro peeps

fast pagoda
#

erhh

livid smelt
#

Lazy

#

My game plan tmw is nab prism

#

Grab parui

#

Pray to Gaben, I dont do anything stupid

fast pagoda
#

garuda is fantastic if you do plan on big gaming on linux ngl, the original reason i got it was because i wanted to know for sure nvidia drivers were gonna work

#

but

livid smelt
#

Or grab modrinth either one.

#

I use amd gpu and cpu

fast pagoda
#

i do too

#

now

#

finally no stinky nvidia in there

livid smelt
#

Whats the big difference between Garuda and CachyOS

fast pagoda
#

cachy is leaner

#

garuda is a similar thing tho

trim valve
#

there is a bug

#

with the code

fast pagoda
#

honestly it's easier than cachy even

trim valve
#

for why

livid smelt
fast pagoda
# livid smelt How so?

i dont use it much anymore although it's nice to have around, they have a lot of pre-setup framework for fixing/configuring stuff

similar to how cachy now has their updater and stuff, garuda has had that for a long time, and if you're coming from windows, stuff like this are nice:

livid smelt
#

I see

#

If I ever plan to hop from cachy I will keep Garuda in mind

#

I will say as long as I dont go through the hell it was to add limine Secure boot support I should be fine neuroD

fast pagoda
#

it has all this shit just ready to go if you want to use it for like gaming stuff

#

and a bunch of stuff to recover if you fuck up your config somehow

livid smelt
#

Based

fast pagoda
#

helps a lot when you're a wee baby from windows

livid smelt
#

True

fast pagoda
#

and even now i will use on occasion

livid smelt
#

Whats your boot manager?

fast pagoda
#

grub

#

didnt have to be

#

but habit

#

has something for that too if you dont feel like editing the config tho

livid smelt
#

Ah

#

I prefer limine or the one with an R in it

fast pagoda
#

it's selectable on install

#

i think

#

it's been a hot minute since i reinstalled it

#

that's the other thing about it

livid smelt
#

Fair

fast pagoda
#

it's somehow the most stable distro i've used

#

which seems impossible

livid smelt
#

Wild

fast pagoda
#

although i'll say nobara probably defeats it there

livid smelt
#

I might migrate over someday provided I dont lose data Thonk Thonk

fast pagoda
#

eventually you'll learn that you can set up your drives to where you basically can completely swap to a new distro and not touch your user data and have it just be there

livid smelt
#

Would love to do that

fast pagoda
#

give /home its own partition (ideally its own drive entirely) and put / on another partition//drive

livid smelt
#

Oh is that it

fast pagoda
#

you can also put /var in its own etc etc if you want

#

depending on how far you want to separate it

#

once you're familiar with what is stored where

livid smelt
#

Ideally id just have my user data one partition the OS on another
And maybe games on a 3rd?

#

Provided I dont run out of space for OS and stuff

fast pagoda
#

sorry i saw my llm log responding with inappropriate messages and had to go see who was poisoning his brain

livid smelt
#

I see

fast pagoda
#

but yeah if you swap it from like auto-setup on the drive, it'll keep what it was going to do there but then you can change things

#

so you'd just set / to one drive, /home to another

#

job done

#

can be done after but it's more painful

livid smelt
#

I was gonna say I dont remember that in cachyos during set up when doing custom
Granted it sisnt explain how

livid smelt
jagged turtle
#

how

fast pagoda
#

i havent been thru cachy install in a hot minute but in general, when you get to the step to select drive install, there should be a spot where you pick "manual" instead of "erase disk" or "replace partition"

then you'd just select the locations so you'd select the home partition/drive that you're intending to use for that, set its mount point to /home, and if you have data in there, you just leave it, DONT format it in that case, otherwise if you dont have stuff to save, you let it format with everything else. but going forward you'd never do that as you'd be selecting the home location you intended to keep, so you just have to tell the installer where you want it to mount at and to not touch it. you'd also select the drive where you want root, mount point for that set to / then format it with your fs of choice (i like btrfs for snapshots but ext4 is faster, some of the other fs have data security/flexibility benefits for stuff like pooling drives, preference is yours).

lastly you just need an efi partition which is just boot stuff, you select that and mount to /boot/efi that one is usually not more than like 1-2 gigs at most
