can't wait for 7g where you have to be in the tower to get signal

#

man, to get double channel ram you need to downgrade your kidney to single channel nowdays

olive sable
#

i only need single channel kidney anyways

#

liver on the other hand

#

where can i double channel my liver?

#

i realize this implies im an alcoholic, when in reality i just have bad genes

mighty thorn
olive sable
#

we can just make a deal

#

i get 64GB of ram and a liver, you get a kidney

#

i wonder when my rma will arrive. i sent the broken ram 3 days ago

#

no updates it seems

#

also no updates on the lightcrafter from ebay

#

postal system being slow is a bigger issue than expected

Dawgg i feel old af

olive sable
#

yes

#

people who grew up with ps2 are old

#

dont put your hand on my shoulder

#

im not old

young oyster
#

Sorry, wrong picture

olive sable
young oyster
#

Back in my day you had to call the internet in the phone. And you could send or receive 32 bits per second, max! You'd spend an entire day to download a single episode of highly compressed, barely watchable, anime...and you were damn happy to have it!

#

We didnt have dlc we had cheat codes, and you had to call a 1900 number that charged by the minute in order to get them!

#

Kids these days

idle dune
#

I

olive sable
#

kids these days still play old games

idle dune
#

I just found out about quick commands in the temrinal

idle dune
olive sable
#

there is no and

olive sable
#

im calling people old

#

you can do with that info what you want

idle dune
#

Oh

#

Yeah I am old

kind nimbus
idle dune
#

I have surpassed unc status I think

olive sable

grand-unc

young oyster
#

I always assumed the programming board skewed older...usually thats the case...get your graybeards talking about how hand made assembly is better than compiled c code.

olive sable
#

it is better

#

but its not practical

fast pagoda
#

gigabyte put in like 5 ways for this fucking activity to detect if it's running on ubuntu 2404 and only that for linux

#

bruh

#

every time i get past one

olive sable
#

what are you trying to do?

fast pagoda
#

plus they bundled the most ancient debian ahh readline

#

force this AI TOP utility to work on arch

#

is hwat i want to do

#

because it's supposedly a feature of my mobo

#

that makes doing training and shit with it easier

olive sable
#

did they intentionally block it on linux?

fast pagoda
#

no they distribute a .deb

#

this is the most recent

#

this one

#

does not

#

even know the b850 ai top exists

#

so i have to force it past that as well

olive sable
fast pagoda
#

so ive extracted the deb and been fucking with it (it's a .asar)

olive sable
#

thats crazy, person who made this meme cant spell

fast pagoda
#

originally it didnt launch at all because the readline thing

#

but it's launching now

#

i should slam it on the aur later and get cease and desisted

#

the bg from teh extracted app is unecessarily large tbh

#

but also me when i load up the AI TOP APPLICATION courtesy of GIGABYTE

#

detailed

#

main thing i wanted to yoink was any/all amd related training stuff cuz it has video llava, llama factory, deepspeed & some opts already setup to use w/ amd gpu

young oyster
fast pagoda

no it's the smallest american size

olive sable
fast pagoda

it is a bed

#

for a skellyboi

olive sable

a coffin is not a bed unless you put a matress in it

young oyster
fast pagoda

coffins have a big ol cushion in them

olive sable

when people say coffin i think of th eold ones

olive sable
young oyster
fast pagoda

that's a vampire ahh coffin

idle dune
#

I need more 4:3 screens

fast pagoda
#

i should plug my 2 dell 2007fp back in

olive sable
#

your options are wide or ultrawide, or ultrawider

fast pagoda
#

1600x1200 IPS 4:3

#

theyre so heavy

#

for a non-crt

#

future tech

idle dune
#

I have one of those right now

#

It my dedicated terminal and btop display

#

But the panel is dying

#

It going yellow

young oyster
fast pagoda
#

Same

#

That's why I like wobbly windows in kde

#

It reminds me of it

idle dune
#

Based

young oyster
#

Used to put magnets up to them and then degauss. Speaker magnets had crazy field lines

idle dune
olive sable
#

ultrawide is 21:9
ultrawider is 32:9
48:9 ultrawidest when?

olive sable
#

i want triple monitor without bezzles. the ultrawidest

fast pagoda
#

Dad got so fucking mad at it

#

: classic:

#

Nice emote

#

But I just kinda haul these with me

young oyster
#

I dont think tvs had the degausser...so you didnt wanna put a magnet up to one of those

fast pagoda
#

thats when you got the external

idle dune
#

SICK

fast pagoda
#

my cat just rubs his ass on them rn

idle dune
#

I wanan hunt a couple of these, put them on some display arms and mount em on a 1x2 stack

olive sable
#

most old 4:3 monitors are so ass tho meow

fast pagoda
#

oooh i should replace the 2 asus vg247 i have on a 1:2 mount

#

with these

#

c uz one of them keeps complaining about single link dvi

#

bitch i dont have a dual link cable

#

in this economy

idle dune
olive sable
#

thats why i said most

idle dune
#

They died out in like 2012???? 2010? somehwere around there

#

Apparrently there some that are 1920x1440 in the wild PES_God

olive sable
#

on alibaba, you can get them for 160

fast pagoda
#

I feel like they might be taller than these

olive sable
#

there do appear to be lcd ones being made somewhere

fast pagoda
#

7kg for one

#

not as heavy as i thought

#

pretty heavy tho for a 20.1 inch monitor

fast pagoda
#

and it's a 2007FPb

#

for business

#

anyways that one has like a yellow spot

#

in the top corner

idle dune
#

Its dying

fast pagoda
#

it's had it for like

#

15 years

#

and i used it daily for many of them

#

didnt grow

#

i always thought it was like

#

someone coloured it with a highlighter lmao

olive sable
#

4K crt monitors exist apparently

#

they're jsut monochrome and medical grade

fast pagoda
#

crt do not have a native resolution

#

it is theoretically infinity

#

kinda

#

not really but it's like

#

you can set it to whatever

olive sable
#

ye but the driver board still needs to do the resolution stuff

fast pagoda
#

it can basically go down to the size of the beam

olive sable
#

kinda

fast pagoda
#

depends on the shadow mask and stuff

#

among other things

olive sable
#

depends on presicion of the motors and stuff too

#

motors?

#

i meant the magnetic fields

fast pagoda
#

i used to run the crt at my grandma's at like 90 hz with 1024x768

#

to play combat arms

#

with no textures

#

because the pIII geforce 2 mx wasnt able to load them

azure lynx
#

it's high horizontal refresh rates that can kill components

#

for those type

olive sable
#

we used to play wii on a crt.
cuz that was the only spare tv we had that we could use

fast pagoda
#

that's what i used for my wii cuz i had a tiny lil 14 inch crt with a built in vcr and that was my tv in my bedroom as a kid

olive sable
#

i still remembe rthe terrible noise that made

fast pagoda
#

internet browser on that thing was lit

#

opera

azure lynx
#

CRT startup noises were like Peeewwwwwsssszzzzzzzzz and just be a high pitched hiss/tone

fast pagoda
#

it's funny because it didnt support flash

#

so it like barely worked

#

and then flash got killed

#

and suddenly it worked better than ever

olive sable
#

i tried to google the crt hum noise i remember, but i cant hear it well on youtube

#

i swear it was a lot more annoying irl

#

or our crt was especially shitty

#

or im going deaf

astral glen
olive sable
#

is it my headphones?

#

oh

#

ye it was

#

i can hear it with my headphones wired

#

via bluetooth i couldnt tho

#

weird

#

is it the eq my headphones use? miniHmm

#

gchemoji_yes apparently it is

fast pagoda
#

bluetooth compression if they are on a shit protocol

#

will clamp the top and low end off

olive sable
#

idk what protocol it is

#

NeurOhISee you can set that in bt manager

fast pagoda
#

it might still not handle it tbh

olive sable
fast pagoda
#

so if you are on ldac hires at 990 kbps it'll get up to 47k

#

not even close otherwise

#

well 660k hits 30khz

#

idk what the crt whine is at

olive sable
#

15khz

fast pagoda
#

yeah just looked it up

#

tv s are 15k

#

monitors tend to be 31k

olive sable
#

audio seems to be going at 125kbps accordign to bt manager

fast pagoda
#

bluetooth moment

olive sable
#

no

#

KB/s

#

not kbps

#

so 1000kbps

#

meow formats are confusing

fast pagoda
#

yea i just dont know hwy it would show KB/s instead of kbps since kb is more frequently referenced for something like audio

#

unless that's just the general datarate

olive sable
#

i didnt make bt manager evilShrug

fast pagoda
#

bluetooth in linux tends to be

#

epic

olive sable
#

so far its been fine

#

had not many issues with it

fast pagoda
#

i havent had many issues either but i also barely use it

olive sable
#

only issue is when i use windows, linux forgets the device ever existed

fast pagoda
#

it had gotten better recently like everything

#

lol that's weird

#

like it is unpaired completely? i guess maybe because the bluetooth device itself is considering it the same device

olive sable
#

connecting to bt heeadphones on windows makes it so i have to repair them in linux

#

they were still there in the selector, but pressing connect didn't work

fast pagoda
#

yeah cuz it's thinking it's the same device

#

when it is

#

but not really

#

probably a different handshake so it just fails

olive sable
fast pagoda
#

same mac address for the PC but when you pair it in windows it overwrites the key and invalidates the linux one

#

and then linux has a stale key

olive sable
#

grrr pesky keys

fast pagoda
#

probably pair in windows first and then pair in linux to overwrite the windows pair

#

and then jam the key from linux into the registry

#

i assume that's where it is

#

no clue where it is on linux

#

maybe bluetooth's /var directory

#

oh

#

ez

olive sable
#

im complaining, but i use windows maybe once in a solar eclipse

#

so im not planning on fixing it

fast pagoda
#

it goes both ways

#

you could sync the keyh from linux -> windows this way too

#

but i also feel that

olive sable
#

or i could ignore the problem exists ReallyInnocent

fast pagoda
#

hey you're talking to the guy who just wiped his windows install again cuz i was annoyed at choosing which drive to swap out of my 3rd nvme slot since it disables my 3rd pcie slot

#

sacrificed immediately

#

problems are meant to be ignored

olive sable
#

linux is on my 1st 2tb nvme. the smasnug 990 pro.
i have windows using the full 2nd 2tb sn850

#

the moment im running out of space here, and i dont want to dump it on my 16tb hdd

#

windows gets explode

olive sable
fast pagoda
#

my 990 is a data drive cuz it's 4tb and almost full and i dont wanna wait for a full backup of it to the hdd

#

which i shouldnt need to do because it is already backed up ostensibly but im paranoid if i dont do a full backup RIGHT BEFORE wiping a drive it's over

#

windows was living on a fanxiang 2tb like a boss

olive sable
#

990 is supposedly the best gen4 drive in terms of speed and such

#

so im using it as my main drive

fast pagoda
#

it's a good drive

olive sable
#

i hear the sn850 is also a really good drive even trading blows with the 990 in vertain cases, but the 990 comes out on top apparently

#

i trust the ssd nerds

#

so the sn850 is my 2ndary, as it was 50 bucks cheaper

fast pagoda
#

the wd drives were always stupidly expensive near me

#

even before this current insanity

#

i could've grabbed a crisp $130 990 pro 2tb right before drives went up again and i didnt

#

im so mad

olive sable
#

the sn850 was 150, the 990 was 200 euro
both 2tb

#

this was in december

fast pagoda
#

yeah that checks out

#

990 was around that here then too

#

sn850x was 350

#

lol

olive sable
fast pagoda
#

idk about non x

#

i paid 300 for this 990 but it's 4tb

#

and it was when it was new so it wasnt that bad

#

now this drive is like

#

31239084139047139048512398 dollars

#

save $76

#

cmon bro

#

LMAO

#

console tax on drives is crazy

#

fuck wd bro idk what their problem is

#

how the hell do you make a 9100 pro 8tb look reasonable

#

by being wd

patent shard
#

SN850X 4tb (yes, 4tb) was actually $150 a few times for sale sold/shipped walmart on the site
idk if it was pricing error or what.. but it happened quite a few times and people actually got the drives

fast pagoda
#

that's crazy

olive sable
#

the 990 pro 2tb is 259 for me rn
and apparently i lied, i got a sn7100 2tb as secondary apparently

fast pagoda
#

sn7100 is basically the 850's replacement

olive sable
#

dram-less tho

fast pagoda
#

sn8100 is the 850x replacement

olive sable
#

i got the sn7100 2tb for 150, now they're 312

#

why is the samsung still cheap?

fast pagoda
#

wow

#

now THIS i saw one of these for $150 at wally world

#

few months ago

#

im stupid for not buying all of them

#

and all the ram

#

within arm's reach

olive sable
fast pagoda
#

us amazon pricing rn

olive sable
#

thats gen 5 tho

#

still pretty damn good price in this current economy

fast pagoda
#

yea im trying to find a 990 but its not in the related so i have to search it it's too hard

olive sable
# fast pagoda

the 9100 is on sale rn for me, from 445 to 280 euro
with the cheapest one being from amazonthemselves

fast pagoda
#

i like how they scalp the shit out of americans on it

olive sable
#

are these other sellers trying to be middlemen to make money or something?

fast pagoda
#

no they are prime listing

#

im pissed that im like getting fomo not buying this 4tb sn7100 at 555.54

olive sable
patent shard
#

prices are sky high right now :/
wasn't the 990 pro 4tb on sale for like $230
maybe that was with epp
maybe $250 without? I don't remember...
still, now that's the price for 2tb? wat

patent shard
#

yeah, I meant 4tb and 2tb

fast pagoda
#

oh 4tb

olive sable
#

here i can get a 990pro 2tb for 260
9100 pro 2tb, the succesor, for 280

fast pagoda
#

4tb idk i paid 300 in like 2023 or whenever it came out for 990

patent shard
#

not too bad

#

the 230-250 sales may have been like 2024-2025

olive sable
#

i liek how the marketing on amzon has a "8TB" image, but none of the options i can pick are 8tb

#

its 1, 2, or 4, with or without heatsink

fast pagoda
#

guess i got an enclosure (i still do use this one tho it's decent) with it

#

if i hit buy it again kek

#

i hate 2025 and 2026

#

feat random cat food for andy

#

those cans came all fucking beat to hell

olive sable
#

it thinks my hard drive hasnt arrived yet?

azure lynx
#

Now the avatar is colored and animated and has drop shadows like it's made of cardboard.

patent shard
#

oh yeah, I never put a heatsink on my ssd
you don't really need it unless you are doing like over 2 minute full sustained loads

fast pagoda
#

i had that once on some order

olive sable
#

can i ask them to send another one? neurOMEGALUL

fast pagoda
#

i kinda like it tho

olive sable
fast pagoda
#

you can just take it out

#

but yeah

#

i actually ordered a heat sink for use in my mini pc on its drives cuz they heat up a bit

azure lynx
#

the more mass of heatsink you add the longer it will last before it needs a break or really good fan/water cooling

olive sable
#

december was a different era

fast pagoda
#

$510 dollar

olive sable

half a grand for 16TB

patent shard
#

I miss the 2tb $63 ssds
yeah, qlc and dramless.. but 2tb for $63? whew

fast pagoda
#

the actual drive i got from the external via sledgehammer is like 600 bux now i think

olive sable
#

nah

#

thats fucked up

patent shard
#

670p 🐐

fast pagoda
#

lol, renewed ones are 450

#

the only new one i have available

azure lynx
#

thanks for reminding me. sata is still a thing. i've got plenty of storage if i need it. thanks, old computers.

olive sable
#

i swear to god they're doing this intentionally. "you will own nothing"
i fully believe this is a conspiracy theory

fast pagoda
#

dont have to conspiracy it they straight up just said theyre raising price teehee

patent shard
#

26tb was $285 from serverpartdeals not too long ago :/

azure lynx
fast pagoda
#

i have 20tb of drives on the way i got for about 140

#

shipped

#

just now

#

just use sas

olive sable
#

"they" will make me pay

azure lynx
#

is the first 5 gigs of the drive free or something?

olive sable
#

for onedrive 5gb is free, then you pay handsomely

fast pagoda
#

paying for onedrive

#

never

olive sable
#

im forced to, school package

fast pagoda
#

kill me first

olive sable
#

we use excel and powerpoint and stuff

fast pagoda
#

i have onedrive as part of o365 for work

azure lynx
#

as a proud owner of too much storage, i refuse to pay for storage.

fast pagoda
#

it's dogshit tho

#

also copilot is unreal levels of cringe

#

even more than regular gpt

#

my god is that a glazing machine

olive sable
fast pagoda
#

i am gonna be over 100 soon

#

im excited to be eligible for the "idiot" designation

olive sable
#

you know what

#

free onedrive is only 5gb

#

guess how much they have us for school

fast pagoda
#

5tb

olive sable
#

lower

fast pagoda
#

oh

olive sable
#

we pay for office 365, fullprice

#

guess

fast pagoda
#

i think my onedrive at work is a MASSIVE 1tb with office365 whatever the ultra giga 100k+ employee enterprise version is

#

so

#

1tb is my guess

olive sable
#

less

fast pagoda
#

im sure it's configurable by admin so they must hate u guys

olive sable
#

its a lot less

azure lynx
#

probably doesn't hate. probably is just cheap.

olive sable

you open your blender file, you pres save 5 times, and your storage is full

fast pagoda
#

lmfao

#

i was gonna say if you're not storing anything large but

#

that was answered just now

#

i mean 15gb is like

#

nothing

#

now

#

it's kinda crazy

azure lynx
#

the cloud: just don't ask for everything all at once.

fast pagoda
#

every echo checkpoint is like 25gb

#

my fucking drives are so eaten by models

olive sable
#

we had people that went form 1tb to that 15gb.s ot hey kept getting messages like "you're 800gb over the limit"

fast pagoda
#

before i cleaned it up i realized i was using 2tb for safetensors like last year

#

on one drive

#

i was like what the fuck is taking all this space

#

oh

azure lynx
#

i cleaned like .5tb just from my huggingface cache for things i only used once.

fast pagoda
#

lol my hf

olive sable
#

my pi 5 has a 8gb sd card, so i keep having to delete cache. and most linux distros come with 200 different languages

fast pagoda
#

was at like 180gb used

#

out of free 100

#

for a long time

olive sable
fast pagoda

noto font probably takes up 321987 gb

#

with all its fucking versions

olive sable
azure lynx

probably what they have

fast pagoda
#

that's funny

#

i just had pro for a bit

#

and then uploaded a lot of schizophrenia to their servers

azure lynx
#

there are some terriible models that have a lot of downloads there ;[

fast pagoda
#

i hate the behavior of hf cli where it just fills up /home/ with 500gb before you notice

#

by default

azure lynx
#

there's probably a command to clean it up but i just looked at the df output for that drive and the cache directory was stupid

fast pagoda
#

it's insane

#

they cache like everything that ever passes through it

#

i guess it makes sense because le download time

#

but imagine having that problem

azure lynx
#

there was one model i used for a while that must've updated 10 times. and it didn't clean up the old versions

fast pagoda
#

nope

#

all in there

#

juuuuust in case

idk why, but the brightest my shader is willing ot go in belnder is 196

its only going to max 75% brightness

oh

the colorspace blender chooses by default is agx

#

using normal tone mapping it does get as bright as it should, but now the colours are off,s o i need to change every single colour now

quick condor
#

Finally got around to listing the pile of this junk for sale

#

No idea why this simple training task is kicking my ass, it's a single special token, the input is clean and it literally just has to transcribe but due to the bad oc I had I mixed necessary patches and unnecessary ones that broke the script.

azure lynx
#

it's obviously become AGI and is refusing to be tamed in order to assert its dominance while also appearing as a relatively insignificant threat.

quick condor
#

No if that was the case 2e-6 learn rate with a negative cosine learn rate with 2k steps wouldn't be flatlining the model in 200 steps.

why does it not work

whatever i just unselect warnings to not see it

scrutable

azure lynx

but that many warnings is itself a warning that you might be doing something wrong

obsidian mantle
#

who invented doubles

#

why

azure lynx
#

math people. for better precision.

obsidian mantle
#

most of warnings are truncating warnings. doubles, ints etc

azure lynx
#

launching the rocket doesn't need doubles... it just needs an ignition source.

obsidian mantle
#

double->float i dont care, ints are truncated deliberately usually

trim valve
#

its still nice to be explicit when you do those conversions

obsidian mantle
#

a bunch of warnings from library that i dont know/understand

azure lynx
#

i'm always icked out by loss of precision errors.

obsidian mantle
#

thonk hmm

azure lynx
#

usually it means someone did something wrong like use an int instead of size_t

#

which means the code might also be sloppy elsewhere

obsidian mantle
#

i mostly truncate floats into int before conversion to string

#

so i dont get 1.00000000 and instead get nice 1

azure lynx
#

it's nicer when they're all the same length

obsidian mantle
#

they arent the same length anyway

#

1.000000000
2000.00000000

azure lynx
#

because you aren't formatting them correctly

obsidian mantle
#

it just clogs

#

well i want 00000001.0000000 even less than i want 1.00000000

azure lynx
#

it puts spaces, not 0s

obsidian mantle
#

its not a table anyway i just feed it to llm

azure lynx
#

and when you have a float, often the parts after the decimal are important or they would've used ints

#

(i thought you were joking)

#

and you can't always print out the part before the decimal either. floats are designed for much larger ranges

#

that's what formatting is for (with either cout or printf)

obsidian mantle
#

oh actually i have a question

azure lynx
#

keep the precision without having the clutter

obsidian mantle
#

so llm gets text formatted

#

it gets all formatting characters too, right?

#

so its probably even worse? even when i have just a bunch of \n

#

or they dont care?

azure lynx
#

it gets whatever you send it as input. if you copy something with extra chars it gets those. it'll usually ignore those when it needs to

obsidian mantle
#

i put multiline context for better readibility (because i read it myself too) but i wondered if its actually less convenient to llm

azure lynx
#

sometimes not having them can change the meaning, but the LLM is usually smart enough to understand what you're typing if it isn't formatted correctly.

obsidian mantle
#

i see

azure lynx
#

structuring your inputs can help the LLM understand things too.

#

they also tend to be good at reading markdown.

#

so you can make headings and lists and things like that

obsidian mantle
#

NeurOhISee interesting

#

maybe i'll try overformatting instead of less formatting

azure lynx
#

about the only thing that won't help that might help a person is making the font bigger ;]

Currently testing a BLT style fixed sized patching, for a small enough model to be trained on a laptop decently well; 14k x 8 batch samples (x4 effective batch to tech I forget the name of) is barely enough to get to not be noise but no where near proper sentence structure.
Hence why I call it a black hole, I'd rather grab something small and use that to train the tokenizer then fine tune on more coherent when it is done.

#

So looking for both large/decent and small/yapper

but im pretty sure the 3x k20 I have are basically useless anyways

Well for you looking for a model. Mistral 7b should run on your hardware.

amber fractal

As for the actual training model, I'll be needing to write most of that just due to it's nature of being not made before.

young plover
# silent island btw, a quick and random question, but... will there be a switch 2 emu?

No. There's no realistic way to crack the security at the level required to reverse engineer and dump software from the Switch 2. It's (probably) using the same kernel as Switch 1 which has been fully analyzed by hackers and has no known vulnerabilities. So there's no way to escalate priviledges from userspace (and no one has even hacked userspace beyond lame ropchains). There's also not likely to be a bottom up hack through the hardware and bootrom. Nintendo screwed up in a similar way on the 3DS and Switch 1, and that has been fixed.

unkempt citrus
#

I thought it used a different kernel

young plover

🤔

unkempt citrus
#

Which is part of the problem in that its unknown

But if its anything like the SW1 in terms of qualitty it won't have a software exploit, which is the expectation

young plover
#

I mean, yeah, it could be different because there's no way to actually get far enough to analyze it. I don't know why they would change it.

unkempt citrus
#

I mean SW1 games require a proton like translation layer to be compatible with switch 2

#

So I assume theres some differences

#

Though that might because hardware

Ah, well that's probably because the GPU is different and they need to recompile binary shaders at least.

c++ is a mess because they keep finding better ways to do things but they have to keep old ways around, so the new ways have to stay backwards compatible which limits how good they can be
its not a bad language, but its way too big (because old and new ways of doing things have to coexist), designed by a committee (which is just about the most bureaucratic way of developing a language), and is neither a particularly good low level nor a particularly good high level language, its mediocre at both which is what lead to its longevity
