fickle rain
#

I mean try it

#

Apparently Google doesn't like their subs for Gemini being used in not their harnesses?

#

Seems like it's only OpenAI that doesn't give a shit

#

And says "ok you can use Plus/Pro anywhere, we don't really care"

azure lynx
#

i think part of the reason they might not like it is because they will tend to do worse and make them look bad . the testing showed that in other models: changing harness made grok 10x better [on some metric] because it didn't have to struggle with the tools as much. [apparently]
most of the changes you make will probably make the model perform worse. google probably don't want it to publicly perform worse (at the harder task of working perfectly with everything vs working "perfectly" with a select few partners.)

opaque sigil
#

unfortunately antigravity as harness is kinda shit

#

maybe go fix that first

simple sky
#

Is this normal for web dev? This seems like too much CSS 😭

amber fractal
#

seems about right

#

gotta undo every step you did before

fast pagoda
#

so i kept seeing NGFF B+M key//NVME drives listed on like aliexpress, temu etc as some genericized "980 pro" or "990 pro" or even the fanciful "1080 pro"

#

for way cheaper than expected

#

like 30-40 bucks

#

i finally bought one just to see what the fuck would actually arrive

#

answer is what appears to be a real drive controller (maybe) on a B+M key 2280 m.2 pcb

#

with no bga slots populated

#

flashed to report "2tb" but returning all 0x00 across the entire array

#

the pcb itself appears to be some sort of manufacturer demo board

#

at least that's what it claims to be based on the silkscreened text on the back

azure lynx
#

"it's got no chips because it's cloud storage, right? right? that's what they told me in the alley...."

fast pagoda
azure lynx
#

it looks like it's got one "something" on a set of pads

fast pagoda
#

check out this labeling lol

#

yeah one pad is populated iwth something

#

i think it's either an empty package or a dead one

azure lynx
#

RM1135_A that ;/

fast pagoda
#

the demo part is what's interesting to me

#

like they got ahold of a batch of manufacturer demo boards

#

i think this is or is made to look like it's a board designed for like evals

azure lynx
#

"this is what it would look like if you had that much storage"

fast pagoda
#

so the manufacturer gets it and is able to solder their own memory modules to it to test them out with the controller realtek is demoing

#

and somehow these folks got their hands on either a batch of them or copied them

azure lynx
#

definitely not supposed to be enduser stuff

fast pagoda
#

and the scam is justr

#

charge 40 bucks

#

people dont know they didnt just esd it

azure lynx
#

maybe you could sell it for more as an interesting object ;]

fast pagoda
#

or break it somehow

#

or DOA

#

and then dont bother to return it

#

+$40

#

cost: $1 for scrap board

azure lynx
#

find the history of the board and write a google doc, print to PDF, now it's an artifact.

fast pagoda
#

i knew it was a scam but i just wanted to see exactly what they were "selling"

true hemlock
#

i especially hated those ones with like "16TB SSD" that is listed at $4

azure lynx
#

"i feel bad ripping them off for hundreds at a time. that's why i price it so low only real idits will buy. and even poor people can afford $4." ;]

true hemlock
#

often times it has 4+ stars reviews because people that bought it are fucking idiot

olive sable
#

nah

#

those are bots

true hemlock
#

no lol its people who saw that the drive reported to be 16TB without knowing shit about firmware

olive sable
#

a real person wouldnt give it a good rating the moment their windows install fails

true hemlock
#

your average idiot wouldn't even know how to install windows and would just use the drive for data

#

they see it reports 16TB they give 5 star ratings

opaque sigil
#

plug it in
see windows say 16TB
"this is sick"

fast pagoda
#

it DOES "report" 2tb with some generic firmware

#

but yeah every sectore is filled with 0x00

#

becaused it's not real

#

it gets the results in like

#

.0002s with all bytes 0x00

#

no latency

#

it just pukes up 0x00

true hemlock
#

my father paid $4 thinking he could get 128GB usb drive easily. even bought 2 of them

when i noticed it corrupts data i checked and its a 1Gbit nand (128MB) lol

arguing with my father was fucking ass. this idiot kept repeating i should plug it in the pc and see it for myself while im trying to explain that the firmware is literally modified

nocturne olive
true hemlock
#

i paid $15 aud ($9 at the time) for a 256GB MLC nvme

#

that shit is outliving my 4tb

nocturne olive
#

Crazy

fast pagoda
#

"normal" price for a slow 128gb drive rn here is like 12 dollar

#

4 would be epic

#

slow being usb 2.0 so agonizing

#

for a 3.1 more like 15-18 bux

#

can get a set of 5 usb 3.0 so about 100 MB/s for like $9 each in 128gb

#

kinda boring that the scam was just send a blank demo "drive" and hope theyre too slovenly and lazy to return it

i guess if they were going to try put malware on the drive they'd've at least put chips on it so you didn't question it.

they're just flogging off something they had foisted on them

The lights represent the capability that is being depended on by the service. Currently how many green lights you get doesn't affect the health returned. I'm interested if there are any config script which can go into feedback oscillations.

i found this sketchy .ru with firmware dumps from this realtek controller and was looking thru the logs on there to see what nand this thing was expecting from the geometry it's configured to look for (and failing)

and the logs are fucking hilarious separately from anything else

#

my boi in these logs tried to flash this poor controller 74 times

before he got the right config

#

so many tries

#

also it turns out this thing is set up to expect what appears to be micron b27b nand

#

it's also configured to expect 512gb capacity max

when the drive is supposedly supposed to be 2tb

#

96L tlc nand from 2018-2021 same nand found on stuff like the sabrent rocket 4 plus or adata xpg sx8200

For some reason, I just thought about the connection between these things.
Weight distribution and projection of Riemann spheres, Polytopes, Toric Variety, and large language models in complex space.

olive sable
#

i have no clue what half of those are lmao

azure lynx
#

isn't a Polytope when you have a tree split with more than 2 members when showing relatedness of species? mebe polytomy. so nope.

#

i know what spheres are and i like a good variety, i do. (is the mentioned kind of the donut-shaped variety?) so i have no idea.

opaque wharf
#

Polytope is just the generalization of polyhedra. Polyhedra is the usual 3d shapes with flat face

#

That means polytope is n-dimensional object with flat faces

#

Think of cubes (a polyhedra), the tesseract is the 4-d analog (a polytope)

azure lynx
#

thing that would hold an n-dimensional thing inside it. or keep one out. to protect your home from a 5-dimensional thief you'd need a 5-d polytope around it?

olive sable
azure lynx
#

no. n-gon is n-sided.

olive sable
#

its a flat shape

#

so it has to be an n-gon

azure lynx
#

probably the 2-d analog you mean?

#

flat in n-dimensions though, not with n sides.

olive sable
#

n-gons arent limited to 2D

azure lynx
#

they're just a 2d surface though.

opaque wharf
#

No, n-gon is polygon with n-side

olive sable
#

a flat plane is a 2D surface

opaque wharf
#

This is the face not side

azure lynx
#

if any point in your n-gon isn't co-planer it's not an n-gon, it's (the opposite of degenerate? or just degenerate?)

opaque wharf
#

For example, the triangle is 3-gon. Its polyhedra is the humble https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Deltahedron

A deltahedron is a polyhedron whose faces are all equilateral triangles. The deltahedron was named by Martyn Cundy, after the Greek capital letter delta resembling a triangular shape Δ.
Deltahedra can be categorized by the property of convexity. The simplest convex deltahedron is the regular tetrahedron, a pyramid with four equilateral triangle...

azure lynx
#

i bet convex hulls have something to do with them

olive sable
azure lynx
#

it's multiple planes though.

#

it's undefined in many places

olive sable
#

undefined sure, still an ngon tho

azure lynx
#

no, it's a broken polygon.

try pass non-planar n-gons to your graphics card

opaque wharf
#

n-gon must have all of their vertices lie on the same plane

idle dune
#

Thank god for Arch users and finding solutiions to the most obscure issues Prayge

opaque wharf

So it has to be flat

olive sable
opaque wharf
#

Wait

#

I forgot my geometry

olive sable
#

ye

azure lynx
#

it's not a defined surface though because it depends on how you treat it

opaque wharf
#

Wikipedia said it is a plane figure enub

azure lynx
#

we have "line" for 1-d, "n-gon" for 2-d, "n-hedra" for 3-d, and polytope is the generalization?

opaque wharf
#

Since the definition of n-gon is n-sided polygon, and polygon must be a plane figure, n-gon must be a flat object

#

Otherwise the interior is undefined

azure lynx
#

as i said, try passing non-planar n-gons to Vulkan

opaque wharf

idk what to tell you

you gonna say this isnt an n-gon?

opaque wharf
#

Generalized polygon, not the usual polygon enub

olive sable
#

its an n-gon

opaque wharf
#

n-gon is polygon with n-sides enub

#

So it is a generalized n-gon, but not n-gon

olive sable
#

thats dumb

opaque wharf
#

That's math

#

Your's is specifically skew n-gon

#

In geometry, a skew polygon is a closed polygonal chain in Euclidean space. It is a figure similar to a polygon except its vertices are not all coplanar. While a polygon is ordinarily defined as a plane figure, the edges and vertices of a skew polygon form a space curve. Skew polygons must have at least four vertices. The interior surface and c...

i reject that

ive decided that eventho you're right, i will continue to use the word n-gon in the way that i have decided is correct

rancid cedar

My thought just now was
Can we distribute the model's weights in complex space, on the Toric Variety composed of Riemann spheres and Polytopes?

olive sable

idk

Can we not? storing it on an SSD and then loaded to VRAM is good enough enub

you can't teach an AI to think better than you can imagine.

true hemlock
#

i find it absurd that intel's AVX512 implementation is so shit

True

true hemlock

ramping up even the AVX512 on a 10900X only gets it the same exact performance to a 10900K without AVX512

quick condor
#

I had substantially worse performance with it disabled

true hemlock
#

means its worse than 10900K

#

at the very least it has more pcie lanes

quick condor
#

10900k would still be worse performance for me

Not enough pcie lanes

#

honestly i really wished that PCIe switches were more common and affordable.

quick condor
#

Fun fact:the p2p fast path is incredibly unstable on the 10900x. If you hit it too hard with rapid high bandwidth transfers without bumping the core voltage slightly up it will hard fault

true hemlock
#

having to bump up core voltage for more stability on I/O related lanes is wild.

quick condor
#

It was an afterthought for cascade lake to even support it. And yah it's wild... Was a PITA to diagnose

#

Like why would I think that it's the I/O lane on the cpu that isn't even really doing anything causing it

true hemlock

and i thought old amd was worse

idk what changed ever since they started ryzen lineups

true hemlock
#

3950x exists apparently

#

somehow i've never heard of it

amber fractal
#

Okay that was wrong

quick condor
#

I only got the 10900x because I had a 7820x and needed more pcie lanes. There really wasn't any other option that would come close to the price/performance of $175 for more pcie and maintaining the 8 dimm capacity

amber fractal
#

I'm only a bit below the 3600x

#

blame the cinabench enhancers

quick condor
#

As much of a pita as it was to get working, I can't complain too much about hitting 14GiB/s on all reduce across pcie 3.0 x16

true hemlock
#

right, the high end lga 1700 chipset gives you pcie 5.0 and most can do bifurcation

#

its just unfortunate that pcie switches that takes in 5.0 and outputs 4 times the lane of 3.0 is rare as fuck

#

but x16 to 4* x4 are pretty common

#

in theory if done right x16 5.0 can be used as 4* x16 3.0

quick condor
#

Yah the cost is the main factor, that and not having a mess of cables hanging out the back of my PC, multiple PSUs etc

true hemlock
#

cables is just physical management issues tbh

#

also you don't need multi psu unless if somehow you wanted even more gpu

#

oh and

#

high end lga1700 chipset has x8 4.0 acting as DMI

#

if you wanted continuous bandwidth that's like extra x16 3.0

#

if you don't necessarily need it to be continuous, via southbridge that's basically 2 more x16 3.0

quick condor
#

I would love more Gpus but tbh I'm able to make do as is

though the wages to housing cost ratio isn't as bad as most places

true hemlock
#

$10K could already get you decent housing

fast pagoda
#

$11.78/tb for a new x24 28tb

#

not the best not the worst

true hemlock
#

$30-40K at least for decent housing in city areas

lament igloo
#

on the topic of usb drives, wanna see some custom ones that i find interesting? neuroSmile

opaque wharf
#

Mostly because land is not being developed like crazy here. And not many people invest in land/house

fast pagoda
lament igloo
fast pagoda
#

usb 2.0

#

should be illegal

#

for a storage device

#

for environmental violations

#

if nothing else

opaque wharf
# lament igloo why not

I prefer to make my own if I were ordering custom anyway. Make the KiCAD and send it to JLC

fast pagoda
#

also for offending the public good

lament igloo
lament igloo
#

whats ur beef with that 😭

fast pagoda
#

manufacturing pure ewaste

true hemlock
fast pagoda
#

they would max out at 35 mb/s

#

at best

true hemlock
#

usb 2 are only for low bandwidth peripherals like mouse and keyboard.

#

anything other than that i would just call usb 2.0 as e waste

lament igloo
#

dang, i find these kinda cool tho :((

fast pagoda
#

i mean i guess i have a usb4 cable on my keychain

#

i cant talk that much but at least i use it to charge my phone whenevr

lament igloo
#

anyways, here's something cool

fast pagoda
#

why do they make an 8gb

true hemlock
#

also overpriced for 8gb lol

lament igloo
fast pagoda
#

temu is basically that

lament igloo
fast pagoda
#

so whatever is on temu is what i expect i guess

lament igloo
#

what the fuck is this

fast pagoda
#

i think most of that stuff is honestly floating around temu

#

so i am not that surprised

#

but also it's just landfill material basically after a point

true hemlock
#

god fuck

#

its also overpriced here

#

$40 for 256GB usb

fast pagoda
#

3.2 at least?

true hemlock
#

oh i found a 256GB usb 3.2 for $18

fast pagoda
#

yeah but at least that would somewhat explain the price

true hemlock
fast pagoda
#

depending on the drive still decent enough for a flash drive for most things, it'll fill itself fast enough since it's only 256gb

#

if it's one big file a few mins

true hemlock
#

$24 for 512GB ig

fast pagoda
#

i liek going on scamazon and searching by highest price

#

to see the random dogshit floating around at maximum price for no reason

true hemlock
#

lmao

true hemlock
fast pagoda
#

this isn't a bad price for what it is tbh but the listing spelling doesn't give confidence

true hemlock
#

i might wanna try buying and see it for myself lol

fast pagoda
#

microcenter here gave me a 128gb usb stick for free last time i went in there

#

idk why they do that but they do

true hemlock
#

2tb for also $24

unkempt citrus
#

The high capacity cheap shit is usally fake

true hemlock
#

2tb isn't high

fast pagoda
#

ya what is high capacity

true hemlock
#

but i'd already suspected this is sorta a scam

#

because usb drives are generally overpriced anyway

#

though since its Amazon

unkempt citrus
#

for a USB it kinda is

fast pagoda
#

buy one(1) item at your local microcenter

#

free

true hemlock
#

i wanna try buying a bunch of it and see if i hit at least one legitimate one and return the rest

fast pagoda
#

usb 3.1 i think this is

#

nope

#

3.0

true hemlock
#

man

#

why are the phone usb ports still slow as fuck

fast pagoda
#

mine is not that bad, it does 1gbps at least because that's the fastest thing ive ran a test with on it

true hemlock
#

damn

#

i gotta try on my new xiaomi 15T though

#

fuck it

unkempt citrus
#

Because how many people actually do large data transfers over USB with phones

#

Its mostly cloud these days

fast pagoda
#

🥀

#

oh yeah i was getting strange looks earlier today looking at the OG cloud

true hemlock
#

"its mostly cloud"
why do people really like cloudslop nowdays man

fast pagoda
true hemlock
#

i hate especially apple ones

#

overpriced as hell

#

like

fast pagoda
#

my dad and i were going around to the long lines microwave backhaul towers that are still up

#

to go like

#

yep that's a big ol microwave tower

true hemlock
#

i could literally get the same capacity SSD for their plan for one month of their cost

fast pagoda
#

not worth it to tear these down so they just sit there

#

up till the late 80s these are the carriers for p much any long distance call at some point and a lot of network tv and such

#

idk if they saw much use out of the US or not because i didnt look but i imagine they saw something

true hemlock
#

also have you seen the ddr5 sodimm i got for trading my ddr4 udimm away

fast pagoda
#

no but i almost randomly got a couple sodimm -> DIMM adapters the other day but forgot to

#

if you send it to me i will use it to test :^)

true hemlock
#

smh
