I used a cheaper water cooling fan than I thought, but it's a good temperature for the i9?
Yeah that's pretty exceptional

Thanks
Quack has said the intel 13-14th gens are extremely hard to cool, so props to that cooler
Use the launch settings from the params file in the same repo as the gguf with the --n-cpu-moe trick I recommended on llama.cpp
And enjoy!
It's only 50$..
Thank you so much.
Yeah 14900Ks have a maximum operating temperature of 100 degrees
Though obviously you wanna stay as far away from that as your cooling allows, I'd treat 95 as the absolute cap
boil the coolant
No worries, I'm always happy to help with local AI stuff
I even use 5.5GHz for boost clocks...
How on does it cool down that much? I should look into it.
Tbh coolant temp is what I'd keep an eye on yeah, keep that under 45 degrees if you can @astral zinc
CPU temps matter less on an AIO setup if they're within safe limits
I guess you must've just got a good deal
I have a question, why did the RAM price suddenly go up? I was going to upgrade...
Oh?? My cooler is 320mm
That's an amazing deal for $50
Oh, I think I've found the reason. I remember my cooler running at 3000-3200 rpm.
My 360mm cost like £125~ btw
So you did really well
ngl my ddr3 ram might still worth some money
That's a bit optimistic
Maybe enough to buy you lunch
tbf it just eat dust
I finally figured out why I could hear the sound of a cooler in the living room, even though my room is the furthest from the living room.
so I'm fine with it
Yeah 3000rpm will kill your fans early and sound like a jet turbine

It seems like God helped that it didn't break down even after using it for a year in that state.
Like this?
what the fuck

That's right, haha. But I have a Minecraft server, and even though I didn't have one like that, I actually harassed it, but it was alive for two weeks. Even that is a computer that is 5 to 10 years old.
The "Kuai Kuai" culture in Taiwan
what about the pads though
Lol, mine run at 1500 normally and stall at around 800. 3k isn't even 50%
Also not sure if I can get my 10900x above 75c. Even if it were pulling 300w that would be a rounding error on my loop temps
Okay so LinuxMint > Ubuntu
I will stop distrohoping when my cold sad soul in in the grave
smh my head I was already asleep when you sent that

I learned something today
pickled the last one left and ated, felt weird, chased down with shot of vodka, feel ok
juicr
anyone tried out Nvidia NitroGen? gonna fire it up on vrising rn
my 6000 rpm industrial fan
AM5 has thick ihs so even AIO tend to have difficulties cooling them down. but the benefit is that AM5 temps tend to be more stable that way
its part why overclockers prefer intel more
huh
depends, K model yeah because higher voltage but proper tuning can make even 14900K run at only 80C at 340W ish so its usually the stock ones that are hard to cool
non K model are really easy to cool
but if we're comparing with wattage, AM5 is somewhat harder to cool ngl
cooling a 7950x at 220W is way harder than cooling a 14900K at 300W
because thicker and smaller surface area IHS
if you're interested in looking what a properly tuned 13th gen i9 temps looked like (using a sff cooler, 260W at <~90C)
its an i9 13900 engineering sample though
wrrr
with my 360mm i can strain it to up to 280W, 60C ish
oh also intel don't use chiplets
and the cores are quite bigger than AMD
die area too for the core tile
you have less thermal density, more headroom
but in exchange its quite more power hungry

Guys have any thoughts on fex project the x86 arm translation project?
from steam?
i doubt the perfroamnce will be too great cuz you lose some in translation, but im sure it will be ifne
especially coming from valve i have faith in it
i think performance will be fine
at the end of the day its still gonna be running on what is essentially a phone cpu
slow programs dont come from unoptimised asm, they come from bad programming
so as long as you manage your expectations of the graphics everything will be good
graphics have nothing to do with it funnily, except on ARM machines without a dgpu
I heard steam just help a little in it though the project itself does not come from steam
i thought the steam frame would be arm without dgpu
ye, they find pre-existing projects that already show promise before investing in it
If it work well maybe there will come age when phone or tablet would be like laptop
I just think that if it work well maybe tablet would be more useful then it was in productivity (cope)
i think if it works we will see tablets with steam to play older games or games that arent too heavy
but for the more performance intensive games desktops will still rain supreme, with laptops in 2nd place
tablets with keyboard attachments might be decent for playing portal or quake
Steam is the only company I interested about and have any hope in advancing consumers tech rn
i think skyrim could be played on a tablet these days actually
snapdragon 8 gen 4 or whatever its called
It could be played on phone
I tried it

Would help handheld market and phone market if it really pop.
supposedly snapdragon 8 gen 4 could do gta5 at 1080p 60fps
granted its an old game now
remember it’s an emulator
game perf should be just fine ye
but not great
no AOT translation
depends on how you translate
should be jit
attack on titan?
remember that JVM does binary translation

and that java programs can be just as fast as c programs
if not faster on certain workloads
jvm is top tier though
im under the impression aot may lead to funkiness
how would aot work with executable pages (e.g. jit) anyway
mm
mm mean mm mm
If rosetta can do it I'm sure it's possible
Not much actually with proton
rosetta is trickery though and requires hardware support
That is also true
Prob that's why people excited about fex cause it have potential value to become faster
proton doesnt translate native code from one system to another though
wine replaces windows libraries with linux userspace implementations
yee
pretty much all runtime overhead is in those implementations
any other perf diff is down to drivers
Linux is the go to for arm imo
Felt better to run
but you’re trying to run a x86 binary on arm
if windows app ships an arm build you don’t need fex you just need wine
surely someone has benchmarked fex before right
Sometime I wish that window w would mess up enough that everyone migrate to Linux instead (wet dream)

i think everyone should switch to
my os (pending), and use riscv instead of any other isa

ye based

hobbyist os useless though not based

i need vodka

would you not eat it?

i was wondering where i thought of the term "slash genre" from
I still haven't figured out what keeps crashing my PC during the subathon
It's so unstable and doesn't even log why it crashes
and then i gogogled
It crashes basically once per day and I can't find the root cause
wait was it supposed to be a pun
i am not aware of the gnu hurd naming lore
hardware issues prob
It's time [to] explain the meaning of "Hurd". "Hurd" stands for "Hird of Unix-Replacing Daemons". And, then, "Hird" stands for "Hurd of Interfaces Representing Depth". We have here, to my knowledge, the first software to be named by a pair of mutually recursive acronyms.

what THE FUCK
you dont say
I hope not because that would be very bad
Also I wouldn't still know what part or how to fix it
co-recursive function
God forbid it's ram
def a():
return b()
def b():
return a()
mental illness

As both hurd and hird are homophones of the English word herd, the full name GNU Hurd is also a play on the words herd of gnus, reflecting how the kernel works.
Wildebeest ( WIL-di-beest, VIL-,), also called gnu ( NOO or NEW), are antelopes of the genus Connochaetes and native to Eastern and Southern Africa. They belong to the family Bovidae, which includes true antelopes, cattle, goats, sheep, and other even-toed horned ungulates. There are two species of wildebeest: the black wildebeest or white-tai...
Pretty sure it's not the RAM
If it was the RAM it'd be because OC not because faulty and I've already way loosened the RAM so there's almost no way it's that
ye so it was supposed to
as i thought
Hurd of Interfaces Representing Depth of Unix-Replacing Daemons
def hurd(s: str) -> str:
return hird() + " of Unix-Replacing Daemons"
def hird(s: str) -> str:
return hurd() + " of Interfaces Representing Depth"
print(hurd())

steamdeck has been upgraded from sweaty gamers device to supreme nintendo hardware

the video does not mention the steamdeck at all btw, but its easy to guess that's what part 2 is gonna be
Mine is on an 800 to 1200 ramp based on coolant temp
But it is very efficient on account of being a 360mm radiator, if I was on 240 I'd probably target 1500

i guess it depends on where the magnet is put in the designe of the earing
the clip is magnetic no?
no
would it be?
ye
magnet weak
its a lot easier to put a magnet inside than to have a whole spring mechanism
alternatively, magnet strong
it still puts constant pressure
springs do too no?
springs
i guess you can create a similar mechanical stopping mechanism for a magnet but
at that point why bother
i think the point of the magnet is that you dont have to go around the back
so it looks like a normal one
magnet piercing
sharp magnet
maybe with larger surface area less sharp?
according to google magnetic are generally more comfortable with less pinching

cybernetics is how we get to cyberpunk 2077
not really
least important part of cyberpunk
well, im talking specifically about 2077
as indicated here
either way, leaf right
cybernetics least important part of getting to cyberpunk genre (cyberpunk 2077 included)
Fashion most important part
you just need to have advanced technology and societal decay caused by overbearing control typically by corporations
so basically we already live in a cyberpunk future
easiest to sell cyberpunk media
that last part is pretty much already sorted tho. we just need the biotech
so ye
cybernetics
we have advanced technology already
all of the latest technology is advanced by definition
sharp sticks were advanced once
advanced still
see
dont come near
very cyberpunk just normalized already
in some aspects arguably slightly more than anticipated by cyberpunk writers actually

just need usb c for power
Just do what pixmob does. Single flash Microcontroller and rf antenna

pixmob too heavy for earring
Battery is the primary weight
ye
at earring scale you can only afford like couple hours max if you want the led to stay on
probably less

i should make apple pie
Reminds me I need to start working on wiring up some leds into a jacket that are controlled by a pixmob board for an event next year

good thing all you need to know to pronounce japanese is what kana the words consist of

english really is one big exception though
each word pronounced however it feel like
you should see
hello sorry to appear out of nowhere but what are yall's opinions on spiking neural networks :) thx for answering
"lay" and "laid" both past tense (different words)

its because lay <- to recline (past tense)
laid <- to put down (past tense)
but laid present tense is "lay"
and "lay" present tense is "lie"

no comment
lie and die are weird words
every time i have to think about whether it's "lay" or "lie" and I hate it
dying can derive from die or dye
that one is easy to decide based on context at least
usually spelt dyeing though
spelt spelled
im glad i dont care at all and confidently use the wrong one
yes
british english prefer spelt
american prefer spelled
spelt also a kind of grain
yes, i agree with americans here
maybe its illusion and i filtered it
spelt is poor
poor spelt
i would like to add that learning english from the internet has made me use both uk and us version of words and its an absolute mess
no one care
i have to choose "color" and "colour" every time
i care
fair enough
english (traditional)
english (simplified)
take it back
the problem is that the simplified is even more inconsistent i think

scots is a better "dialect" than american english anyway
within the scope of its simplification its more simple
but overall it made some mess
its an actual language, not correct to call it a dialect
but its similar enough to english
roughly as close to english as ukrainian to russian
blyat

i have no comments as i do not know any languages fluently

a full month blending in with russian swarm and im already spamming blyat in vc
maybe closer since scots being a dialect is debated
what russian swarm
is there a russian swarm somewhere
me saw long time ago
probably debated more due to english centrism in uk politic
Flemish is considered a dialect of dutch, but its closer to afrikaans than standard dutch
me sent long time ago smogfrog
you've sent it twice already iirc
first time i hear about it
sam van "dyslexia" maele
ignore spelling mistake
theres a vk group i guess you could start from there me no idea either
what you think of people who say "english 3 languages in trench coat"
english one language eager to loan words
me find it annoying, as if all modern language not diverged and fusion of historical language

it just loan word from other european language so can borrow as is which sound same
i can see it tbh. its like if dutch and german combined and stole some french
bad
from my experience learning it at least
japanese has so many words borrowed from english nowadays
me not think it bad though
not care about language purity languages meant to evolve
half the words people use in german nowadays are english too
english is germanic language that diverged, and have vocab from other european language, mostly french due to invasion
ok maybe not half but you get the idea
ye
but thats jsut how language works
people say "its like x but y" becuase it has similair roots
i should not have come there
Of hem that written ous tofore The bokes duelle, and we therfore Ben tawht of that was write tho: Forthi good is that we also In oure tyme among ous hiere Do wryte of newe som matiere, Essampled of these olde wyse So that it myhte in such a wyse,
english from 1390
the netherlands and the uk are close enough to the point it developed languages in pretty similair direction
no idea would be a lie i guess
but close to 0
ok ye this is pretty readable to me becuase its pretty close to my dialect
"tefore"

Of them that wrote us before The books dwell, and we therefore Been taught of that was written then: For it is good that we also In our time among us here Do write some new matter, Exampled by these old ways So that it might in such a way,
direct translation
apparently old english had a feminine gender as well
i suppose that comes from german
or proto-german
grammatical genders annoying
we dropped that at some point, wonder why
true
i wonder if there are any cases of non-neuter gender in modern english
we used to have two plural forms in russian for each gender but only one remains
at least its straightforward
and not subtle like in japanese
maybe its not that hard to feel if you learn it good enough

we dont have separate words per gender in dutch. only gendered and neuter
i do want to note that it would be significantly harder for you to actually read a middle english text though
another weird part is english merge singular and plural you
not sure if german do that
i dont think so?
oh this is because of you is a recent invention
or more accurately, the merger is a recent invention
coincidentally in russian plural you is used for a single person in formal speech as form of respect
same here
im bad at reading in general
nevermind these squiglys
(i hate it)
apparently old english had singular, dual, and plural "you"
and middle english in the 12th century had singular and plural
actually technically it's different
by the 17th century the singular you was merged
it's not plural you, it's just the equivalent of "they"
we have "jij/je" singular, and "jullie" plural.
but except when you want to address formally its "u" singular and "u" plural too
In Middle English, plural forms (see you) began to be used in all cases, at first as a sign of respect to superiors (a parent, king, victor, God, Christ, the Virgin), also in direct address by God; then as a courtesy to a social equal (also a spouse, lover).
idk why, its stupid but you gotta show your superiors resepct i guess
so its just plural you as form of respect taken to its conclusion
ohhh
i guess its related to the "u" we use in dutch
thee <- weirdo i dont know you
english just dropped the non-formal ones
to my knowledge it was something like
thee -> [dead]
thou -> you
i hate how thou is not pronounced the same as you
Now I just need to go to the liquor store and I'll be set to keep working on my project
Widespread use of French in England after 12c. gave English you the same association as French vous, and it began to drive out singular nominative thou, first as a sign of respect (similar to the "royal we") when addressing superiors, then equals and strangers, and ultimately (by c. 1575) becoming the general form of address.
also respect
respect the single driving force behind simplification of english
the french
the "thou" pronounciation of modern english is entirely made up

/θuː/
Read IPA notation
i like how the IPA u is just the dutch u. means we're correct
and later /ðuː/
i remember learning that
wasnt useful since then
sounds pretty much exactly like "du" which is you in german, makes sense i guess

Don't get me started on the French... I have to constantly deal with French bleed with mistral
same thing with a
almost as if they all have the same common ancestor
50 a/e variations
rrr
i dont even care about the dutch language that much tbh but seeing how it gets a reaction form konii is funny to me
Hi
i miss 100

Guys what are your preferred language to do site
python

that was just in the python backend tho
I'm thinking of starting bussines on my own Tbh in market where job is hard to find I want to create opurtinity for myself
-# the FAQ does not count, it was an image when I was working on it
got hardware decode to work again
and its less jank cuz the firefox settings are hard-coded into the nix config file
i am enjoying this nixos thing

another one bites the dust

the FS is pretty slow on vms in my experience for whatever reason
I'm probably not setting up vms correctly then
people act like there are a lot of differences between linux distros, but with hyprland on top they all look the same
so far nixos has been exactly like cachy but better
They all use GNU coreutils

who cares
nix opinion now
hello ubuntu
Its sorta like comparing an apple, with a slightly oranger apple.
nix sounds like "niks" which is dutch for nothin

The GNU Core Utilities or coreutils is a collection of GNU software that implements many standard, Unix-based shell commands. The utilities generally provide POSIX compliant interface when the POSIXLY_CORRECT environment variable is set, but otherwise offers a superset to the standard interface. For example, the utilities support long options an...
one day we will convert every active chatter to NixOS

Almost all Linux distros use coreutils.
Although they are creating a Rust version, which is different. The BSDs have their own version, which comes with their kernel, hence the BSDs are operating systems.
I hope you don't mind my (unwelcome) infodump.
not needing to reboot after changing the config has been such a
but then i realized i literally just installed blender so of course i didn't need to fucking reboot the whole ass pc
i'd still recommend rebooting when you update anything that touches the linux kernel or systemd
feels cool tho
or just apply the config at boot time in that case
had to reboot fro vaapi
Now my stuff is just messing with me
My network keeps cutting out with the only way to recover being turn it off and on again from the GUI so I can't even automate it with a bash script
A more important thing to give context to those not deep in the rabbit hole, these are the common shell commands you use like cd ls echo etc
yeah graphics driver stuff is another one
oh
i see
Does someone happen to know how I could restart my network from the terminal the same way as the GUI on Linux Mint? I couldn't find anything useful on Google
i need to clean up my config files now tho. it became a bit messy after a while
one really nice thing about nix is that it's super lazy so you can just redefine the same thing in several files and it'll merge them
makes splitting very nice
you'll get warned
depends, some things have different priority levels
arrays will generally just be merged

mk.default mk.force my beloved
if you set it in multiple places without allowing overwriting witht the same priority it'll fail to build and complain
The real fun starts when you decide to start home manager and you have to pick one of the many ways to combine them both.
i like how the pre-generated config has a commented out line to disable the firewall on your pc.
im sure that is a great idea

I do not recommend my apporach
not directly related to laziness
thankfully there's a simple solution to this
self reference is though

surely I didn't make both nixos and hm reference the same file
you can do that?
Omega cursed method but I did it somehow
ssh is the thing i use to connect to my 3d printer. so why is there a daemon for it here? can i remove that?
wrrr
you mean sshd?
that is server yeah
Just keep it disabled
there's also programs.ssh for the client
systemctl disable sshd.service
or something...
nop wont work on nix
services.openssh.enable = false; or smthn
or just remove the entire line
just remove it, it should be false by default
What init system does NixOS use?
systemd
read-only filesystem
not really root is rw
but /etc/systemd/system is indeed a symlink to a read-only path
and if it wasnt that wouldnt really fix anything
any manual changes are one rebuild away from disappearing
or reinstall if its new files
if adding packages to the config downloads them, does removing them delete them?

nix-collect-garbage -d
This cursed method to keep both in the same config file, kept simplish to get the point across
In flake.nix
hyper-nixos.dev = "Nixos";
hyper-home.dev = "Home";
nixosConfigurations."IgglyFramework" = hyprland.inputs.nixpkgs.lib.nixosSystem {
specialArgs = {hyper = hyper-nixos;};
modules = [./Iggly/Framework];
...
}
homeConfigurations."iggly@IgglyFramework" = home-manager.lib.homeManagerConfiguration {
extraSpecialArgs = {hyper = hyper-home;};
modules = [./Iggly/Framework];
...
}
In default.nix for IgglyFramework
{ config, pkgs, lib, ... }:
let
cond_imports = if (hyper.dev == "Nixos") then [./hardware-configuration.nix]
else if (hyper.dev == "Home") then []
else [];
in
{
imports = [] ++ cond_imports;
config = if (hyper.dev == "Nixos") then {
...
} else if (hyper.dev == "Home") then {
...
] else {};
}
what if its used in a previous system verison file thing?
does it re-download it when i boot from that file or what happens?
generations are gc roots
anything from a reachable generation wont be gc'd
It can probably be done better, it was more cursed than this orginally
just use different files inside the same directory
leadchay
so i need to delete all generations using that app to delete the app?
the -d flag to nix-collect-garbage -d deletes old generations tho
made of lead
