i forgot the soon derp

but yeah, really wild to think that 2008, the year i first used linux, was almost 18 years ago.

#

back in 2008 was based on Mandriva if i'm not mistaken

#

which also no longer exists

rigid snow
#

i am young enough my first distro was ubuntu

#

though that’s still like 2014?

#

not yesterday

mossy fossil
#

so still in the Unity Era of Ubuntu

tender river

first distro i installed myself was solus

tender river
#

worst issue me had was

#

#

think it was from repeatedly disconnecting/reconnecting?

mossy fossil
#

possible, i don't have alot of experience on solus, though i heard it was rather buggy at first with their unique DE

#

i mean, you gotta start somewhere though

Ye its that i think

#

so anything that wasn't originally HDR get converted fine

#

certain HDR stuff gets broken

rancid cedar
#

I'm thinking about how to make the model recognize CIFAR-10

mossy fossil
#

HDR is often broken, but then again... i always felt HDR was a massive niche

olive sable
#

HDR is pretty good if you have the needed hardware to fully use it imo

#

entry-level hdr is pretty eh

mossy fossil
#

i kinda always saw it as "An excuse to jack up the prices"

#

but hey, that's just me

#

it's a similar feeling to RGB (on mice/keyboards). more expensive just because it has it

olive sable
#

thats partially cuz of the 10 bit panels and higher brightness i think

#

dolby atmos and vision is a lot worse in terms of higher pricing

obsidian mantle
#

I dont use hdr because it makes the screen too bright neuroBwaa hurts my eyes

#

Is it my monitor thing or hdr cannot have proper brightness setting by its nature

olive sable
#

thats the point glueless
you can just lower brightness tho

obsidian mantle
#

Monitor doesnt let me lower it

olive sable
#

set it in os then perhaps

obsidian mantle
#

Weird concept to me

#

I havent even looked if its possible

#

Im too accustomed to vga

olive sable
#

my monitor does let me change brightness with hdr. but then there's also sdrbrightness, 1.4 i can change

#

hyprland thing

mossy fossil
#

honest to god, i never understood the point of RGB. It Shines like a firefly squid and is more expensive because of that.

Okay, but what functional use does it have? you aren't really justifying that 20% "RGB Tax" to me.

nocturne olive
#

Who even cares about HDR, I doubt my stuff even supports it

#

At least I'm pretty sure these can't HDR

If my monitors do actually support HDR someone feel free to let me know
Not like it matters because I don't think Xorg supports it

pascal is in a very weird situation on Linux now

volta is so overclockable for some reason

nocturne olive
#

I guess my 3090 is kinda somewhat better in some ways
At least it has more VRAM

true hemlock

arguably better than ampere

volta chips are usually big

#

so you don't have to worry about thermal density

A problem with the default NixOS configuration.nix generated by the official installer is that it is not “pure” and thus not reproducible (see here), as it still uses a mutable Nix channel (which is generally discouraged).
