stone loom
#

All I know is Unity

#

And uhh

#

I forgot the other one

molten ore
#

it isn't a game engine specifically, but can be used in a game's ECS

hearty notch
#

isn't clipping because they don't always wanna define collision too strictly

rigid snow
#

can i bring this up again since unity was mentioned

hearty notch
#

like usually it's an issue of making the model high res enough not being worth it in terms of collision detection

#

not an inherent engine limitation

stone loom
#

Clipping is a common problem in games

molten ore
#

I made a physics engine with the bleeding edge of collision models invented by NVIDIA and I am planning on using it for games, 3D rendering for animations and stuff, and maybe tracking software

stone loom
#

Like fps the guns in the first person pov can go through walls

stone loom

Game engine from scratch?

molten ore

as far as I can see since the technology came out last month, i may be the first adopter of this in a physics engine

rigid snow
#

how does a unity game get embedded into a ue game pls answer i feel like im going fucking insane how does no one see this

rigid snow
#

how does that work

stone loom
hearty notch
#

I didn't read closely but

stone loom
#

Maybe lots of devs will use your engine

rigid snow
hearty notch
#

hmmmmmmmmmmm

molten ore
#

Yeah, on systems with GPUs, I can get some insane performance improvements for complex models all while solving a long standing issue

hearty notch
#

yea idk

molten ore
#

it parallelizes a ton of math and moves the bulk of the work into earlier stages so collisions can look natural

stone loom
#

I just watched a vid of a guy making ray tracing from scratch

#

He used velocity

#

If I remember

molten ore
#

I think that may be done during the rasterization process

#

not for collisions

stone loom
#

Oh right you're talking about collisions

#

Maybe make the hitbox the same as the model sizes?

#

Or collision size-

molten ore
#

ray tracing for hitting is different than NVIDIA's ray tracing (which is just an extra step for rasterization)

hearty notch
sand escarp
#

Does anyone do cybersecurity here?

hearty notch
#

no but I am trying to build an app with a cryptography stack (I just use libsodium and follow instructions)

#

are you trying to add drm to a game or like ddos protection or some other type of security

rigid snow
olive sable
#

Not raytracing

#

If your collision boxes are complex enough to the point you need to do your collisions on the gpu, you need to use different collision boxes

#

Only for simulations should you consider colliding every polygon with every polygon

hearty notch
#

yea the problem is you can't conceive of all graphical clipping as unintentional and something people want to fix, sometimes it's just a documented tradeoff so the gameplay works better

olive sable
#

Clipping in games is a result of how the make their boundingboxes, and what physics system they use to collide

molten ore
#

I leave raycasting vs. raytracing to the grammer people—i almost exclusively speak math

hearty notch
#

vocab in programming is just a rigor concern as anything in math

#

grammar is about form not about definitions

olive sable
#

Moving your raycasting to the gpu wont change anything without changing the physics system.
But if you change the physics system you might aswell use that new system on the cpu where you dont have the cpu-gpu-cpu latency

hearty notch
#

if your definitions are wrong or you don't fully grasp them that's a deeper issue than grammar

olive sable
#

There is an inheret difference between raytracing and raycasting

#

Raytracing has branching and reflections

molten ore
#

this collision engine is almost all calculated parallel on the GPU

#

collision model I should say

olive sable
#

I doubt the trade-off is worth it but i shall see

molten ore

i was going to post images, but it seems this is not supported here

olive sable
olive sable
hearty notch
#

idk neuro was unclear

olive sable
#

jsut do /rank

molten ore
#

for simple models, this physics engine may not see much of an improvement, tbh

#

like cubes hitting cubes may not be the greatest, but if you want to model a bunch of rod soft bodies into a woven piece of clothing, this will shine

olive sable
#

i feel like if collisions are the #1 prioirty, then this would work very well. but for games you need to balance rendering with everything else happening on the gpu

molten ore
#

"just get a better GPU"

olive sable
#

thats a losing attitude

molten ore
#

but regardless, this offputs a lot of the computation into different stages of collision detection, so theoretically, this should be a performance improvement over traditional collision models

hearty notch
#

the core issue is I don't think game devs will want this because really sensitive collision detection means they have to code in more handling and it's just too much overhead for most games

rigid snow
hearty notch
#

lmfao

rigid snow
#

EATING FORSEN? Is this art?

molten ore
#

whos forsen?

hearty notch
olive sable
#

concave means you can easily get stuck on everything you touch

cosmic sphinx
rigid snow
olive sable
#

besides that, collision isnt jsut "we collide so we stop there" 99% of games have some sort of way to slide allong a wall they collide with

#

if you mkae your colliders very complex, that will start to break down

cosmic sphinx
olive sable
#

so all in all, i don't think higher res colliders will be too much of a benefit for games, but they will be cool for simulations

molten ore
#

Essentially, this functions differently from traditional collision models—the "compute-then-constrain" doesn't suffer the same CPU-GPU-CPU latency as query response systems. This system separates the geometric analysis from the constraint solving.

  1. GPU doesn't just check "do we touch?" It calculates a linear constraint for the relevant future pairs. It processes the complex meshes in parallel.
  2. This isn't transferring a compact list of bounds so much as high-density, low-volume data, so the latency between CPU and GPU is negligible.
  3. The solver system runs on the CPU and doesn't need to look at the mesh anymore—it simply iterates through the bounds the GPU calculated and applies its relevant math.

Because of this, you get advantages when you have tons of collisions and have higher fidelity since the collisions are calculated as a constraint in the previous frame.

Additionally, the sliding in this model is handled much better—it is built into the math itself, since it uses a projection solver. The excess from a collision is subtracted from only the velocity that would enter the wall, so the tangential velocity is entirely preserved. There is no special "sliding code" that needs to be put in place. It is all mathematical and default with the solver

lastly, the fear of sensitivity is solved by the architecture of the model. In traditional physics engines, sensitivity is usually how often it checks for collisions, which indeed leads to jitter and the need for debouncing. In this system, sensitivity is replaced by margins, wich act as a filter for noise

Background Check Point Research (CPR) identified three security vulnerabilities in the Graphics Device Interface (GDI) in Windows. in some way that is true, but in the grand scheme of things it just makes your articles look cheap
