ok i figured out why netflix was failing me
sony only licensed dolby MAT for ps5, which means the ps5 only outputs uncompressed PCM dolby atmos, and the netflix app only does DD+ and isnt willing to convert it to PCM.
i tried to use my laptop but that wasnt able to do 4K for some reason, and apparently it is because the front hdmi of the avr is the only port that doesn't do hdcp 2.2 which you need for 4K.
