I've had an obscene win rate with this deck(+70%) over the last 40 games. To me this is what a top B3 deck should look like. Resilient combos, interaction, high card quality, consistently presenting a win T7. Is it a rule 0 thing? Or did I over shoot the mark and this is actually a bad B4 deck?

i dont think being able to win by T7 make it B4. Its one of those awkward moments in B3 where decks feels too strong

can consider nerfing yourself though if it is winning too much

and a big part of "high win rate" doesnt take account of what happened within the game

#

if people are miss assessing the line of combo or not saving removal/interactions for those things, it is easy to get out of control

to me its more antidramatic than feel bad

because i see it coming in B3 but dont have a way of stopping it because there may not be any counterspell or instant enchantment removal etc

i think a nice way to de-optimize is to make changes that technic-ly makes the deck "weaker" but by using less efficient staples and more of a personal unique take

or some form of self restriction

personally, as a B2 player i would never want to buy or own an [[esper sentinel]]

but from a power perspectivve, why would i not play a card if i have that colour

#

but going toward that direction is sort of a dangerous one way trip because it applies to so many cards Path to exile swords to plowshare, hyper rapadization pongify, etc

if part of commander is where the colour indentity restriction and a format that was not created and designed by wizard with its own rule and multiplayer aspect, then having cards that specifically made for commander also becomes eternal staples that reduce the deck size of singleton. Recently many youtuber posted video about how the format is no longer singleton anymore even without tutors, because there are more than enough of the same effect for every mechanics

i guess the challenge is basically making the deck fits your taste whenever you think it should stay the way it is (probably unlikely since you made this thread), go up in power for the potential tutor combo win, or adjust as you go

the way i see certain B4 decks is like having 30ish [[manamorphose]] because every card looks the same and do the same thing. and to me thats boring as heck to build and play

I'm of the opinion that the card quality stuff is a small part of what makes the deck strong, its mostly that combo in B3 requires being hated out / focused that kinda abuses the social contract of the format

I've had a couple of games where I drew double the cards of the next person, I'm dead on board if all 3 players attack me, but it doesn't happen

the most fun games I've had with this deck is when people are aware of this and put the appropriate amount of pressure

i agree card quality is a small part, but it was more to show that point of optimization where everything becomes too good

if you draw 20 cards and no one focus you, thats their own bad threat assessment

#

thats the other part which makes it hard to judge if it was the game/ player or actually the deck

i've won B2 games where i casted 0 removal nor board wipe the entire game

#

they feed into my forgotten ancient and kept building their own board

rn i am testing out combo decks in B2 and so far it has been working out

i think the tutors i run are at least 4 mana like [[diabolic tutor]] but i can reduce the casting cost

sometimes can consider making the deck more budget

like lands aside, having it be no more than $X00

#

i usually count the $ for lands for one side and then all the rest on the other side $

#

since they usually dont have direct influence on the power level

#

and the # of interactive spells are also one of the biggest determining factor for power

another one takes like 10+ pieces to get there so it feels fair
