Hey everyone!

I’m looking for some feedback on my new Kona, Rescue Beastie Commander deck. Here’s the decklist: https://moxfield.com/decks/-xaqUqcIsUOMBbmAWgDcLA

I’m aiming for a high bracket 3 / low bracket 4 power level. The main goal is to consistently land Kona on turn 3, tap it as soon as possible, and start cheating big permanents into play without paying their mana costs.

The deck is built around big threats and big creatures, with a focus on ramp, protection, and ways to tap Kona immediately.

I’d love any thoughts on possible improvements, cuts to improve consistency, or whether this game plan fits the intended power level. I’ve tagged most of the cards to give an idea of how many of each type I’m currently running. I’m still new to deckbuilding, so I’m sure it could use some improvement. I’d also like to know if this kind of deck is actually fun to play against, as I really don’t want to be that guy at the table. Thanks in advance!

Well, on first glance if you are aiming for upper bracket 3 you are going to be facing a lot of interaction. Now this is kind of depends on your personal metagame but I personally run into a good bit of blue and therefore counter spells. So I would consider running cards like [[Veil of Summer]] or [[Autumn's Veil]] or just something that says your creatures can't be countered, ie: [[Allosaurus Shepherd]]. Also I'd likely recommend running more card draw, you want to keep that hand full on options for Kona. Things like maybe [[The Great Henge]], [[Hunter's Insight]], and [[Disciple of Freyalise]] for example. Also some other bombs that don't need to swing to win you the game might be a good idea, ie: [[Kozilek, the Great Distortion]], [[It That Betrays]], [[Void Winnower]].

After taking some time to give it a once over these things stuck out to me for how I play at least. Otherwise it seems to be in a descent place to get started with playtesting and find what works, what doesn't, what you like, what you don't. A lot of great decks happen through iteration so keep to it. 👍

Thanks alot for the quick answer ! I had some eldrazi in there in the first iteration but i find the anihilator keyword a bit frustrating for some players so i ended up removing them from the deck ! I also think i should have more card draw since i can quickly end up with an empty hand if i play agaisnt too much removal or if the game takes too long. For the ''spells cant be countered'', since i mostly play them from the ability (kona, kodama, lurking predator etc...) i dont have to worry that much (atm, didnt play that deck much). With longer games it might be a problem tho !

Yeah, if you can land Kona consistently then you might not have to worry about counters as much, and yeah totally get that for annihilator. Good Luck.

Might take some workaround but, [[Strionic Resonator]] would be a CRAZY 2 drop. With artifact untapping, you might be able to have a 15 mana swing turn as early as turn 5.

Do you have a finisher I’m missing? Playing mono green most of the wincons are bullying the table but 120 life is a lot to bully through. Especially if you have a big scary Kona in the command zone.

Its also a concern i have, 120 life is hard to kill when you have only some big creatures on board. You quickly become a target and have not much to block with

#

But its still fun to play

[[Blade of Selves]] or something similar?

Maybe you could use big creatures and tap/untap abilities to pump something into the ceiling [[Beserk]] [[Bighorn Rancher]] and some tap untap thing

No card found for “Beserk”

I have about 5 pump spell in there atm, but since i will probably start doing big damage only at t5 or t6, other players should already have lost some HP

How do you feel about the playstyle of killing one player completely as quickly as possible? The issue is going to be waiting to pop off until you can kill someone/everyone or sustaining a board that can over multiple turns kill someone.

#

Big damage early is good and fun but if its not enough to having a meanining full imact on the game its just putting a big bullseye on your back

Okay, we are getting into a pretty weird deck 😂

#

Kona, who cheats out big guys. Is going to build a board and defend itself earlygame then wait for a big explosive turn somewhere in the late game and take over the game

#

What about a crazy ramp package early into a [[Genesis Wave]] or something similar

Maybe there is an engine of green cards that we can make the benefit from big green creatures and you keep one in hand and Kona lets you play it and pop off the same turn due to all the mana saved

Yeah, maybe leaning more into Kona big mana or Kona devotion might be more lethal. Cards that benefit from high converted mana cost or power/toughness.

Does it trigger the gattling blaster 3 times?

No unfortunately. Attack triggers happen when something is not attacking and is declared attacking. Things that already enter attacking do not trigger.
