I personally dislike playing landfall decks generally but im giving this one a shot out of love of character, im having trouble sorting priorities and what's actually good and what's a trap, help!

#Could i get some eyes on this? Toph Landfall
308 messages · Page 1 of 1 (latest)
Earthbending having the unique trait of returning the land tapped and that its +1/+1 counters that boost it feel like its got a lot going on more than the normal landfall mechanic
What’s that goal? Earth Bend + Landfall + +1/+1?
I’m working on a list that’s Bumi Unleashed + Ashaya then having Toph Greatest Earthbender and the Bumi Elcetic eathbenderw
Pls share! And yes I wanna make a more aggressive lands deck
Sweet lemme grab that link. Just a heads up, I’m super early on building it, so it’s a very rough list😂 lots of fat to trim
Archidekt
Bumi, Unleashed - Commander deck
(1) Commander • (2) Anthem • (1) Artifact • (7) Counters • (13) Creature • (3) Draw • (4) Enchantment • (5) Finisher • (1) Instant • (41) Land • (19) Landfall • (2) Lifegain • (1) Proliferate • (6) Protection • (4) Pump • (33) Ramp • (2) Recursion • (4) Removal • (1) Sorcery...
Oh I just realized all land creatures are by default colorless creatures with no creature types
?
You could already do this to lands i guess
Oh I forgot beastmasters
Yeah i love that
You could? I always thought the lands were the color they tap for. I’m guessing they’re colorless just tap for specific color pip mana?
Yeah they have color identity but lands are colorless permanents
This is fucked. I forgot this exists.
I think it pop off, since all earthbended creatures get x +1/+1 counters. So if a land connects, it doubles its +1/+1s and if Ashaya is out, then everything nontoken that connects with a +1/+1 counter on it doubles their counters
Id suggest [[vanquish the hoarde]] over preposterous proportions
Wrong one
Damn its the infect overrun
This one
Your creatures ought to be plenty big i think
I think they just need trample and to win when they connect.
This is nasty lol. I need Ashaya in mine
Oooo that be nasty in this
I have [[Embodiment of Fury]], [[Sphere Grid]] as the two options to give everything trample. But that would work for a sweet one turn kill
I think you should add [[inkmoth nexus]] and [[frostwalk bastion]] , frostwalk has the ability without even needing yo activate it, inkmoth is inkmoth you know what that shit do
Inkmoth should be able to Just kill people one after the other
Spmeone in general showed me [[famished worldsire]] and its so fucking cool in these earthbend decks
Creature — Leviathan
Ward
Devour land 3 (As this creature enters, you may sacrifice any number of lands. It enters with three times that many +1/+1 counters on it.)
When this creature enters, look at the top X cards of your library, where X is this creature's power. Put any number of land cards from among them onto the battlefield tapped, then shuffle.
0/0
I’m guessing the play with this is tap it for its colorless then use it to pay the mana ability
That would be insane. Sac x lands but all the x lands are already earthbended. You’d get any number of lands in your top x cards plus x lands that were earthbended entering at once
You ignore the activated ability entirely, the second part of the card is active if you earthbend it
Its a colorless land with a neat lil landfall stun function
Itsthe best wincon for deck imo, if its not countered you just, got something big enough to kill and if you have anything like the zenidkars roil kr scute swarm you have everything you need to win immediately if you have a haste enabler.
That’s right! Almost forgot about just earth bending it
Yea, that even with a Mossborn out would go nuts. Or if you draw into an [[awaken the woods]]. Haste enablers would be a big thing for it overall
[[Rhythm of the wild]] can go in
Rhythm of the Wild <:mana1:292901508373282827><:manar:292901508796645397><:manag:292901508654301185>
Enchantment
Creature spells you control can't be countered.
Nontoken creatures you control have riot. (They enter with your choice of a +1/+1 counter or haste.)
Some view Domri's unlikely ascent as a sign of Ilharg the Raze-Boar's imminent return.
[[Skullspore nexus]] is just good green card
Legendary Artifact
This spell costs
less to cast, where X is the greatest power among creatures you control.
Whenever one or more nontoken creatures you control die, create a green Fungus Dinosaur creature token with base power and toughness each equal to the total power of those creatures.
,
: Double target creature's power until end of turn.
Inkmoth specifically goes in bumi honestly you can kill 2 players in one turn and corner one to the point theres no catch up
The extra combat is wild
Hadn’t considered those 2 there
I was looking at a [[all will be one]] since every earth bend puts counters
Enchantment
Whenever you put one or more counters on a permanent or player, this enchantment deals that much damage to target opponent, creature an opponent controls, or planeswalker an opponent controls.
The Invasion Tree broke through the Blind Eternities and sent Phyrexian perfection coursing across the Multiverse.
I like it, only reason im leaving it out of mine is its expensive
Have you added [[raggadragga, goreguts boss]] yet?
Legendary Creature — Human Boar
Each creature you control with a mana ability gets +2/+2.
Whenever a creature you control with a mana ability attacks, untap it.
Whenever you cast a spell, if at least seven mana was spent to cast it, untap target creature. It gets +7/+7 and gains trample until end of turn.
4/4
Its perfect for the earthbend cards
I did find that one. It’s one I’m considering
From that list I shared, were there any that stand out that instantly just don’t need to be there? I’m working on trimming down the fat off that list
Most of the hydras, all of the awakening cards, and the stuff that cares about green creatures since lands are colorless so like everything that looks like this id cut lol
Stuff like this can go too imo
Im trying to keep the curve low for anything that would need me tapping my earthbended lands, id cut this since youre gonna have to tap 7 hyst to get it out, to benefit your.... lands.... you see the problem lol
The overrun im running is storm the seedcore since its only 4, iys mostly for the keywords and the art tho
Im also struggling with cuts, do you see anything you think is too slow or not aggressive enough?
Let me go back through your list
That’s a good point about lands not being considered “green” even if they tap for green
I love the awaken mechanic i just feel like youd rather run a bad earthbend csrd over a decent awakening card
I did have this one as a landfall version of a [[Darksteel Juggernaut]] if everything’s a land, then it’s a massive attack quickly to abuse in multiple combats. But probably not needed
Hahaha right! If all creatures are lands and all lands are lands, say I get 5 creatures out and have like 5+ lands, that’s instantly a 10/10 creature land attacking. Plus if it gets to 10/10 or something stupid and they chose to block it and I attack with Bumi as commander, I can just pay 3, move the +x/+x to Bumi or whatever they choose not to block before damage is delt
Okay fair you've convinced me, if you fund yourself close to 100 and still need cuts id say it can go, but this is funny and good enough it seems worth
I’ll have to make my way through a bunch of cuts, but it’ll be end game cut if needed
This stood out. I think there’s gotta be a way to play lands out of graveyards for less than 5.
Noticed no [[Loot, Exuberant Explorer]]
Legendary Creature — Beast Noble
You may play an additional land on each of your turns.

,
: Look at the top six cards of your library. You may reveal a creature card with mana value less than or equal to the number of lands you control from among them and put it onto the battlefield. Put the rest on the bottom in a random order.
1/4
Maybe these too also? I think there’s definitely a better way to search for a land card. I thought about racetrack but I felt for 5 mana I’d rather have another card in there that boosts land creatures or something like that
Or if I’m paying 5 mana there’s definitely something < or = to that cost that enables something a bit better imo
Expedition map is really only there as backup for Sylvan scrying, which searches for inkmoth nexus or for ba sing se, its just extra redundancy so I could take it out, the behemoth is only there because its only of the only things I already own with that ability. I can switch to ramunap excavator p easily hut thars less of a cut and more of a swap out. And I juat forgot loot exists lol. If my lgs has one he can def go in. The only thing im a lil wary of is the racetrack since it is landfall that survives a boardwipe, which if ive got any land creatures it just gives me blockers that also have landfall lol. Same reason [[zendikars roil]] is in
I cut sporemound and elfsworn giant because they cant survive your average boardwipe
Makes sense.
I do like Zendikar Roil.
I did think about sporemound and elfsworn giant. I could deal with them getting wiped, but if they do it’s two 5 mana creatures gone, that’s instantly kinda did something I could get cheaper
Yeah roil and racetrack are very slow, I can definitely cut them honestly
I like them and already own them but they dont advance the specific playstyle here
They're defensive not aggressive
And thats 3 5 drops gone lmao
My curve is instantly better
Ya love to see it
I liked a [[Grazing Gladehart]], Scute Swarm it’s cheaper kinda does what both those guys did. Or [[Omnath, Locus of Rage]] pricey but if it’s wiped and his tokens die too, then it deals damage to any target
That’s a solid cure! Not too pricey overall
I feel like you can do more for 3 mana, plus ideally on t3 youre gonna wanna be ramping to get bumi out t4
Omnath is incredible im only waiting to see if anyone in my city has one 😭
If there’s money available it does come in the landfall edge of eternities precon
[[Scute Swarm]] was appealing because with Ashaya it be super easy to get 6 “lands” then each Scute Swarm doubles every land, or creature that enters. At least two doubles of it with land for turn plus 1 creature
Tbf yes those copys wont be lands due to Ashaya only caring about nontokens, but it would give you a shit ton of blocking tokens to chop block with instead of of using your animated lands or other valuable creatures
Im running scute iirc
Yeah its there
Scute swarm is normally annoying here its gonna be "rakdos charm me or lose"
Oh were u saying the other landfall creature, you could do more for 3 mana?
U think about a [[Vexing Shusher]] or [[Goblin Anarchomancer]]
Nah shusher Is good but i don't run enough creatures, and goblin makes toph worse since she is a mana sink that cares about the amount of mana spent
Now hear me out. [[Ashnod altar]] in toph
Nah it could work but not in this specific build
Yeah the deer doesn't seem that good to me. You could be ramping or even casting scute with that mana
Good point! I was looking at Toph Greatest Earthbender mainly for giving land creatures double strike. Also i have Bumi Unleashed as the commander for my list. So no concern with casting Toph from command zone for higher costs
Yea I liked the deer for some life gain. Might run it might cut it. It’s maybe 25 cents so I’ll prob pick it up anyways
I was just thinking about that. Depending on time rules you could Sac a earthbended creature or all of them, get 2 mana each and set off a bunch of landfall triggers with the lands returning to the battlefield
If you like the deer you should run [[retreat to kazandu]] first, its just better imo
Losing the Stateline is made up for by making your lands bigger
Feels especially good in toph when I might be relying on my opponents to kill her so I can recast her. But also just swinging in eith a big land and reminding them "thats double strike" might be as effective lol
Thoughts on [[gemstone caverns]]
Legendary Land
If this card is in your opening hand and you're not the starting player, you may begin the game with Gemstone Caverns on the battlefield with a luck counter on it. If you do, exile a card from your hand.
: Add
. If Gemstone Caverns has a luck counter on it, instead add one mana of any color.
[[Gemstone mine]] whoops
Cavern is so good
Mine is less good
Nah mine sucks nvm
At least if you earthbend ghost quarter then hit yourself thats technically a 4/5 mana rampant growth. Not good but its advancing your game a lil
I dont see this in
Both of these can go in
Good call. I think I have a a copy somewhere
I did pick up a copy of Mine. I kinda like the 3 counters then sacrifice. If you earthbend it you’ll get it back + another landfall trigger in 3 turns if you do it same turn it’s cast
I don’t think I have Horizon Explorer in the list, but i definitely have a copy of it. I don’t have a copy of Loading Zone but did kinda forget about it haha. I did pick up a copy of terrasymbiosis tho, definitely will use it
[[Ouroboroid]] would be fun too, just pricey
Hopefully in a few years It goes down, but i think itll be good iys entire life im standard
I really like mycoloth but I dont think it goes here, but how do you feel about [[iridescent hornbeetle]]
It feels defensive and maybe a bit "win-more"
But it feels like it'd be insane if you pulled it off
Mycoloth would be sweet if Ashaya affects tokens since you could sac earthbended lands for Mycoloth, then return to give landfall triggers, then you get tokens (would be lands if Ashaya worked that way)
If you keep earthbending it you’d get a bunch of insects. Also if you have the branching evolution or doubling season.
Youre right, it can go in. I think ill also drop a mountain pr evolving wilds for [[Kavaron memorial world]] when I can get my hands on one
Land — Planet
This land enters tapped.
: Add
.
Station (Tap another creature you control: Put charge counters equal to its power on this Planet. Station only as a sorcery.)
STATION 12+

,
, Sacrifice a land: Create a 2/2 colorless Robot artifact creature token, then creatures you control get +1/+0 and gain haste until end of turn.
This and [[landing zone]] are perfect together snd perfect for toph
No card found for “landing zone”
[[LOADING ZONE]]
Enchantment
If one or more counters would be put on a creature, Spacecraft, or Planet you control, twice that many of each of those kinds of counters are put on it instead.
Warp
(You may cast this card from your hand for its warp cost. Exile this enchantment at the beginning of the next end step, then you may cast it from exile on a later turn.)
Since earthbending makes it a creature before adding the counters shit is a 1 mana branching evolution when you warp it
I dont think the planets need to go in, youd never earthbend them but theyre really good anyway lol
Or I meant at least the red planet
Just a way to sac earthbended lands so they give another landfall triggers
Think I’m finally gonna sit down and try and cut 60 cards off my list tn.
Ping me later! Im going to a party but ill check it when I get uo tomorrow
Sounds good! Will let ya know when I get through this round of cuts
Cut it down from like 160 to 126. Sideboard is the ones I’m on the fence about cutting. The Maybeboard are the ones that I was cutting for sure.
Then I added a few things that said proliferate

Bumi, Unleashed - Commander deck

Sylvan Advocate was there to boost land creatures would be easy to get 6 “lands” considering Ashaya. Same idea with Mossborn. Every creature and land triggers his landfall
Sazh’s Chocobo and Vinelasher Kudzu were the cheap easy creatures to drop with a landfall giving permanent +1/+1
The Crystallian Armor was a better Blanchwood Armor, would give Bumi Unleashed Trample and a solid+1/+1 boost to get get damage in to trigger extra attacks
Katara and Toph made sense since I’d still be taping lands for mana if they’re earthbended then they get an additional +1/+1
My understanding of Undergrowth Champion is that I could block some massive creature with him, sac a +1/+1 and then prevent all damage to him. A free blocker that gets bigger when I drop lands?
Sylvan Awakening was an option for a finisher if I can’t get a bunch of lands earthbended or keep Ashaya on the board. Sure I’d miss out on creatures being lands for Bumi’s extra attack phases but at least I’d get one sold swing with all my lands as 2/2 and indestructible
Everything else I cut out. Pretty much my justification for some of those cards or at least the idea with them
I think youre over valuing small value creatures, when I think what you really wanna do is ramp as much as you can turns 1-4. Bumi doesnt give the kudzu, the chocobo, or Sylvan advocate extra combat, and while ashaya turbo charges this deck it cant be relied on to win on its own, you really want as many lands out and only non-land creatures that are absolute killer imo, bumi is good enough, fair points on the crystallian armor I forgot this is a bumi deck for a second lol, and i like katara and toph i think kt might just be a lil slow unless you keep a premium of the hardened scales cards, if you do fair enough, and yeah thats the best use case for undergrowtb champion, its not bad actually and honestly Sylvan awakening making your already earthbent creatures indestructible trample and base 2/2 on top of everything else is worth an include in my list too
Undergrowth is the best of the landfall counter creatures so if anything keep that
I put mine together last night, bumi toph and inkmoth killed 2 people in 1 turn and the other one was able to beat me from there but I was so close.
Never saw famished worldsire but I found i eas bending one creature multiple times than making multiple small creatures with earthbend, the tempo loss is sometimes worth it bjt usually with toph having one big trample double striker feels better. Earthbender ascension is fucked up.
Yea that’s a good point on the small creatures. I think ramp for 4 turns is doable, even at tables with my pod. It’s pretty much a big creatures green deck based of what cmc creatures end up having the abilities to make the strategy happen definitely can get away with less small stuff
That’s crazy im guessing you got Bumi to be unblockable/trample and kept running combats? Super promising to see someone’s else’s swing on my idea end up smoking people! Means I had a good idea haha
I used Secret tunnel, I made toph and bumi unblockable, bumis single extra combat just wasn't enough to kill 3 people in one turn but boo hoo I only killed 2 people in one turn poor me
Gruul earthbending is really good! I think you'll suprise people as theyre gonna be expecting Naya toph and shes just an annoying combo deck rn, running a super aggressive deck that punishes them for destroying your lands is so much fun and people very quickly realize "this is a real problem" , lemme know how ot goes if you decide to finish it!
I think people will start running kore land removal with earthbend in the format, hitting these lands before theyre creatures is the only way to deal with us super effectively
That or counter the triggered abilities
Tbf no one in my pod currently runs a blue focus deck with lists of counters. Someone’s got a red/green/white deck which has a good bit of negate things but nothing insane
I think I’m the only one with a blue deck as I also run Captain Howler, less as a blue and more as an agro with unblockable creatures
Works perfectly with earthbended lands returning
Not complaining, totally could have had some kinda returns with a stun counter type con to it haha
[[Captain howler]]
Yea that one haha. Closest anyone in my group has to a blue deck with lots of counters. But it mine so I won’t have to worry
Picked up the Avatar Beginners box to get the Bumi Elcelectic Earthbender
Oooh he's so good
I think youre more go wide land creatures and im go big
Having a giant double striker has been wining me games but bumi untapping the lands is so crazy
I got bumi out once this weekend and he won the game immediately
Gruul bumi I mean
I dont know if eclectic earthbender goes in my deck
The boulder might tho
[[The boulder]]
Multiple cards match “The boulder”, can you be more specific?
Yea I think mine ends up more go wide lands.
Mostly since I’m more used to doing tokens or at least like having lots of blockers etc
I have maybe half the non-land cards for the deck
I can’t wait to finish it and give it a shot
Managed to pick up a good chunk of the remaining cards. Stumbled upon a new card shop near where I’m at, they had like everything.
I think you might like this, its modal ramp and removal in gruul earthbending
Someone at my lgs opened a few bundles and sidnt want this, and gave it to me for free on the condition I use it in toph
That does look sweet!
I had some of that, but it was Toph blind bandit haha
That store I stopped at set me up. I probably need to find another 15 cards, but it’s just the cheaper stuff. Plus tokens. Sped being able to play the deck by a good 2 weeks haha. No need to order off tcgplayer now. Or at least the order just dropped by like $100
kinda curious about [[loading zone]] i know it works with earthbending, but does it helps other forms of counters strategy? esp since spacecraft and planet was a one time thing
Enchantment
If one or more counters would be put on a creature, Spacecraft, or Planet you control, twice that many of each of those kinds of counters are put on it instead.
Warp
(You may cast this card from your hand for its warp cost. Exile this enchantment at the beginning of the next end step, then you may cast it from exile on a later turn.)
i havent started my land-creature deck and i may look for toph in the 99 instead
or even multiple toph build around to randomly pick one at the beginning of the game
Wdym? It says planet, it cares about any kind of counter, otherwise it would only say +1/+1
I thought you were making bumi?
I think all the toph are good, the gruul toph are neat lil commanders that fly under the radar cuz everyone defaults to 3c toph
Playing them the last few weeks, gruul toph has people going like "oh its just gruul beatdown" till you swing an 10/10 vigilance double strike trample valgavoth's lair at them which natively has hexproof
thats probably not me
i mean the permanent-type rather than the counter-type, because it could be a lesser "double counter" vorinclex
all gud
It is lesser vorinclex
i like the gruul tophs a lot more than the 3 colour one but i havent pick up any yet, not an ATLA fan
at least not yet
but how to turn lesser vorinclex into less-lesser vorinclex
Ah thats interesting, its one of those things thats always been around me as a kid lol, always was gonna make a toph, so glad theyre all gas
Lol yeah, I run the planets in my toph cuz its free value with that enchantment
i played mtg long enough so i am like finding the oldest janks and similar things to include rather than endlessly upgrading with new cards
i think the biggest appeal with double counter is the doubling season + planeswalker interaction
wotc learnt their lesson to not repeat that on purpose but its not impossible to replicate to a degree
i use my loading zone like a harden scale so i want to find what other counters i can do with it
especially when it doesnt apply to artifact enchantment saga and such
unless i have [[march of the machine]]
for saga creature they may end up dying too quick
Theres a lot of bullshit you csn do with a 1 mana doubling season for creatures
anyways got off tracked, for the landfall thing i think a really good one would be [[roaring earth]]
but thats nothing compare to the $$[scrythecat cub]]

Enchantment
When this enchantment enters, earthbend 2. Then search your library for a basic land card, put it onto the battlefield tapped, then shuffle.
Landfall — Whenever a land you control enters, put a quest counter on this enchantment. When you do, if it has four or more quest counters on it, put a +1/+1 counter on target creature you control. It gains trample until end of turn.
oh maybe not that diff, since it need 3 more counters
thats the thing, what weird counters are good in the 99
i have like chimera +2/+2 counters which are oddly good with proliferate
but the colour and card types are complete mismatch
[[Ride the shoopuf]] from FF
that one i still need a copy
Its not a bad earthbending ascension, its a better branching evolution dawg
I think you should focus on the ramp and aggro over the stuff eith counters, you wanna go as wide with lands or as tall with lands as you can manage
If thats what you want upu should go for felisa or other stuff that really likes fiddling with counters
I think landfall is better as an aggro strategy that has built in redundancy with your obvious ramp package given you are in green and gaf about lands
The double strike toph can kill super quickly with inkmoth nexus and the lesson toph makes a small land then a huge land then a massive one, I like the mono g toph but I prefer them in 99
Bumi is also super aggressive and cool
i dont think i will have that many earthbend cards since i want to go in other direction for colours
which felisa, dont remember names off the top without pics
Neither do I, you really only need your toph, theyre good enough earthbenders
[[Felisa]]
Legendary Creature — Vampire Wizard
Flying
Mentor (Whenever this creature attacks, put a +1/+1 counter on target attacking creature with lesser power.)
Whenever a nontoken creature you control dies, if it had counters on it, create X tapped 2/1 white and black Inkling creature tokens with flying, where X is the number of counters it had on it.
3/2
oh wow, this is like [[elenda the dusk]]
flying with 2 power tokens is quite significant
but that would be something in the 99 as well 🤔
since no green
if i can get different types of counters, than the proliferate would be x2/x3 rather than just one more counter
and loading zone can see all of those different counters
sounds kinda like atraxa on steoroids
😅
Why not just do atraxa If you dont wanna earthbend?,
This is the earthbending thread
[[trasverse the outland]] i run tons of basics i dont think i want the hate from having atraxa in the commander zone besides its $$

Ah its gone back up
i do want land creatures, but i will have very little new cards
We had an 8 dollar atraxa
The old land creatures are more auras than counters
CAD here so its like 1.3 times all price XD we poor
You specifically want earthbend of thats the case
Ew.... tbh i dont like atraxa either
indestructible land creatures are the best
i maybe able to do a black white green counter focus deck
i will see when i can pick up some toph to fit into an existing deck
Only abzan land legend i know of is necrobloom
Or Thalia and gitrog, but theres the atraxa problem again
i got weird ways to play lands so i dont need the fetch and additional lands which are quite pricey as well
thalia gitrog does a bit too much with tapping things down so people hate that one too
This shit is fucked up in earthbending aggro
it looks good but i think the downside of that card had always been the mana cost
it basicaly cost 6 to cast and equip onto an untapped land
without white, to enchant lands to give indestructible, it maybe one of the few ways to do in red green
@storm goblet Finally going to pick up the last few cards I was eyeing up for Bumi today.
Good shit man, has the list changed much? I added some neat stuff like [[skullspore nexus]]
I’ve thought about that one tbh
For the most part same list. School got busy so actually building the 99 got delayed. Today’s just snagging the last few pieces to the puzzle. Then I can actually make the 99 outta what I have.
Got it all picked up, lemme get the list going of what I have to build with.
Good shit man
: Until end of turn, this land becomes a 2/3 Construct artifact creature. It's still a land. (
: Target spell can't be countered.
