So trying to turn this into a Grixis spellslinger that uses proliferate and poison counters. In my head it plays out as once I get Kess out, I'm able to cast an instant/sorcery give a poison to everyone, and then blink Kess to cast another poison(or proliferate) and either repeat or start popping off proliferates.

Kess, Dissident Mage - Commander deck

(1) Commander • (6) Blink • (1) Burn • (1) Creature • (7) Draw • (1) Evasion • (16) Infect • (49) Land • (21) Proliferate • (2) Protection • (10) Ramp • (2) Recursion • (11) Removal

the idea is there but the execution is lacking, i think it needs more synergy

#

need to factor in tehe restirction of mana cost and cards available to you in order to get things going together

You must follow the normal timing permissions and restrictions of the card you cast from your graveyard.

2019-06-14

You must pay the costs to cast that card. If it has an alternative cost, you may cast it for that cost instead.

2019-06-14

Once you begin to cast the card, losing control of Kess won't affect the spell. You can finish casting it as normal and it will be exiled if it would be put into your graveyard.

2019-06-14

If you cast a card from your graveyard using another permission (such as that of flashback), Kess's effect doesn't apply. You can cast another instant or sorcery card from your graveyard.

2019-06-14

If you cast one instant or sorcery card from your graveyard and then have a new Kess come under your control in the same turn, you may cast another instant or sorcery card from your graveyard that turn.

2019-06-14

If a sorcery card is put into your graveyard during your main phase and the stack is empty, you have a chance to cast it before any player may attempt to remove that card from your graveyard.

2019-06-14

If a spell cast this way is put into another zone after it resolves (perhaps because it had buyback), it's considered a new object. If that card later moves to your graveyard, it won't be exiled.

Yeah I am still working on it

stuck frigate
#

i would say, for cards that doesnt add to your game plan, cut them out

#

toxic 1 on a single creature is probably too slow

#

dont rely on the flash back to get that spell again, you cant flash back 10 spell per game

upper beacon
#

So go more toxic/proliferate, and flashback/blink as an afterthought or bonus?

stuck frigate
#

yeah, somewhat like that

Do you want to stay with the grixis commander? I have the feeling that you barely use red but have a lot of red mana sources cause you need it to cast your commander

#

For example [[gale, water deep]] plus a black background like [[Scion harvester]]

No card found for “Scion harvester”

[[Scion of halaster]]

Or maybe [[Emet selch]]

#

Multiple cards match “Emet selch”, can you be more specific?

[[emet-selch of the]]

Or [[Emet-selch unsundered]]

Legendary Creature — Elder Wizard
Vigilance
Whenever Emet-Selch enters or attacks, draw a card, then discard a card.
At the beginning of your upkeep, if there are fourteen or more cards in your graveyard, you may transform Emet-Selch.

Hades, Sorcerer of Eld
Legendary Creature — Avatar
Vigilance
Echo of the Lost — During your turn, you may play cards from your graveyard.
If a card or token would be put into your graveyard from anywhere, exile it instead.

Yeah I was going grixis but maybe Dimir is better

☝️ tbh i think you can build this one backward

#

figure out the spells oyu need and how many are good, then look for the commander for it

#

evaluate the weakness and can compensate with the strength of the commander afterward, ex. 99 lacks draw, play a commander that draws at least once per turn cycle

#

the unsundered backside is sort of a trap tho, because its really hard to get 14 cards into grave consistently

#

so its one of those that almost never flips, or impossible to build with it getting flipped in mind

spark summit
#

Oh yeah that might be the case. I have to agree with monomon here that building this backwards might be the best

upper beacon
#

So in this instance I should what? Look at the solid dimir toxic/proliferate cards then see?

spark summit
#

Yes exactly build the deck with a colour combination {dimir) and then choose the commander that benefits you the most

stuck frigate
#

its more difficult but sometimes it feels just right

#

for example, if you find that you want to have like 40 spells in the 99, then you want to search for a commander that cares about spellslinging or magecraft

#

or you think you will be the threat/ everyone wants to attack you as you become the center of attention, then go with something that blocks well
