#Gitrog monster commander deck reccomendations?
1 messages · Page 1 of 1 (latest)
Some things that stick out immediately:
Deathrite Shaman is a nonbo since it exiles your own lands for ramp (talking strictly about self sufficiency)
Maybe run more land recursion effects (Crucible of Worlds, the room from DSK, etc)
Cut your "finisher" tagged creatures for better synergy or at least something that doesn't get stopped by chump blockers.
Maybe check out cards with the "dredge" keyword?

i dont think I can agree with this add for both price and function if it is the only card in the deck to lands played from grave
i am fine with deathrite shaman IF you dont need to play the same land over and over; the utility on it as a one drop is one of the best

the cheapest$ version but its also one of the highest mana cost
i think out [[conduit of worlds]] is byfar the best and cheap$wise cruicilbe of worlds effect you can buy and yet to have in the deck
and not being a creature is pretty nice :P

almost every card in the deck (outside of the instant package) are green, this is probably the best cost reducer/ramp you can get for this deck
but also one of the priciest card i can suggest if you don't already own it. @acoustic wren Proof yourself as a green mage!?!
expect your collection to have like 20 of those
[[drown in filth]] not a big fan of this one, since it depends on how fast lands get into the grave
it does bit of both for mill and removal, but not the best at either imo
personally i prefer... [grisly salvage]]
[[grisly salvage]]
still 2 mana, still mill at least 4
but card selection instead of -toughness
instant is worth to noting
[[uurg, spawn of turg]] i cant come to like because it is just too much resources for too little payoff
3 colour pips 3 drop that is hard to get out early, wait a round for a potential surveil 1, preferably a land/ 2 open mana to lose a land and gain life
i assume it is a filler card that is easy to take out for anything better
with how much land focus the deck is running, a landfall etb trigger would probably be the most consistent way to end the game
tbh, i think going bracket 2 is better for lowering the budget (not that it matters if you already own all those cards) and for some of the gameplay (preference). Because lot of the lands that are the best in game are just very expensive; crop rotation has very limited tutoring effect other than Glacial Chasm. If you are someone who dont really like playing with tutors, 2 of the 3 game changers are tutor here. If you have your own play group, there is also a chance of having a rule 0 conversation of having glacial Chasm yet to be a bracket 2 deck. Those are just my suggestions without actually changing much of what the deck is doing and still find its place in the format. The rest is up to you
in my case, I would probably go either turbo combo (tutorless?) frog or just value land sac fun and combat dmage FTW
i forgot about dakmor salvage, crop can search that too
[[sylvan srying]] this card does not scry
[[insidous root]] + avenger of zendikar
Enchantment
Creature tokens you control have "
: Add one mana of any color."
Whenever one or more creature cards leave your graveyard, create a 0/1 green Plant creature token, then put a +1/+1 counter on each Plant you control.
The roots of Vitu-Ghazi allowed Trostani to reach every crack and crevice in the city.

if tutoring certain piece is to create redundancy in the deck, then same effect can sometimes provide that alternative (Zuran orb) in this case
ofc, lot of cheap$ tutors as more cards are getting printed, some are just more conditional to have lower than 4 mana value
delirum is a good match with gorgari in general
one last note from me, would be kinda a silly idea. more bounce lands
not just the colourless ones, but especially the OG ones
2 are colourless [[everglades]] & [[jungle basin]]
they are awful by nowaday's standard so they are dirt cheap
holy wasnt expecting to see all this lol
but in gitrog, you actually have the option of having itself sac'ed to draw
if it entered untapped, then you can tap them for mana
before they go away
without [[primal amulet]] there is only the single spelunking in the deck but it is still 2 mana per land drop from grave
Artifact
Instant and sorcery spells you cast cost
less to cast.
Whenever you cast an instant or sorcery spell, put a charge counter on this artifact. Then if there are four or more charge counters on it, you may remove those counters and transform it.
Primal Wellspring
Land
(Transforms from Primal Amulet.)
: Add one mana of any color. When that mana is spent to cast an instant or sorcery spell, copy that spell and you may choose new targets for the copy.
yeah i can talk about lands all day long, and this is a land deck
ooo so amulet of vigor basically counters effects like authority of the consuls right
i guess so, if something enters tapped, it will trigger
if something enters then an effect taps it, then it wont
enters untapped*
[[authority of the consuls]]
[[blindness obedi]]
No card found for “blindness obedi”
[[blind obed]]
yeah far as i know prim vigor counters both
and the vampire that makes 1/1 if something enters untapped and stays untapped
lol i said the name worng again, its amult of vigor, no primal in the name

too expensive for my soul
yeaaa its a bit on the pricy side
i own a fair amount of the cards ive put in here
with the amount of cards i own its shaving about 160 dollars of the price
cards that may deserve a slot if you are looking through chat, conduit of worlds, on the trail, grisly salvage, sylvan scrying , claws of gix
mdfc are lands on the back, means they can be played as a land if an effect allows for it, but it will not work with gitrog card draw unless it is sacrifice from the battlefield, i can check on this rule
nopes
doesnt trigger gitrog at all
i would still consider [[bala recovery]]
i gotta figure out the best things to cut as well tho
its regrowth for 3 mana
i mentioned UUrg
murder
potentially tutors but mainly if you want to go down in brackets
or play style choice
i wanna be able to play at a 3 cause thats what most people at my LGS play
0/3 blocker each on
extra land is alright
single drop from gitrog allows it to come out
i think the cut should be in the middle or where the deck has the most redundancies or high mana curve
i think the early game feels too slow
lot of things only comes out AFTER the commander
going to look at the 4 drops and above
if turn 3 ramp
turn 4 commander 5 drop
instead of other things
i think apex devastator probably be worth cutting
i think so, that one is more of a fun thing that is more broken in other decks
although "cascade, cascade, cascade, cascade" is hilarious
this one is unecessary and takes a while to play
if it is a ramp into big things deck
i would say keep
landfall can get much better value
a lot of things i put i just because "you can play extra lands each turn"
[[deadly dispute]] no sac fodder
like oracle of mul daya
yeah if there is card adventage
then azusa is one of the most busted ramp
all the play lands from grave is basically card advantage without drawing
while gitrog is the other way around, draw by "losing" cards
anything that replace itself turn gitrog -1 +1 into a +2
[[ash barren]] replace a land
discard get back two
the colour ones i would hold back for now since they enters tapped
same for the colour desert discard cost 2 instead of 1
[[smeagol, helpful guide]] feels meh, hard to sac creautres on board
Legendary Creature — Halfling Horror
At the beginning of your end step, if a creature died under your control this turn, the Ring tempts you.
Whenever the Ring tempts you, target opponent reveals cards from the top of their library until they reveal a land card. Put that card onto the battlefield tapped under your control and the rest into their graveyard.
4/2
he was originally in there cause i was gonna make a gitrog ravenous ride deck at first
but realized the monster might just be better
welll yargle and multani were gonna ride gitrog
a bit lost in this deck
yeah i think i would be taking out those two i mentioned
i dont like [[blooming marsh]] at all
turn 3 is the last time it enters untapped
and there are lot of additional land drop
the only deck i have that sees any success is my koma cosmos serpent deck lol
rinse and repeat
i did world eater for the laziest deck i have built
just big mana spells i never got to play in simic colours
and irresponsibility with close to no counterspell in the deck dispite open mana
blue white are my mortal enemies in terms of colour pair
ohh i guess i need to mention a nonbo
since i gave the og mono colour bounce lands
those are the bad etb that [[greenwarden]] hates
with [[amulet of vigor]]
since it is a trigger effect unlike spelunking
it will still trigger twice and untap twice
but jungle basin either bounce two untapped forest to hand
OR attempts to sac itself twice
[[awaken the woods]] and [[ashnod's altar]] seems like it could be kinda busted with gitrog out
dont they count as lands?
hitting the grave
oh
tokens are not cards
i thought tokens still hit the graveyard when they died
in a deck that has countless creatures, making lot of mana with ashnod altar still can make X spell really bad, then the dryad coming down will trigger landfall countless times
yes tokens hits the grave
but [[gitrog monster]] specific
The Gitrog Monster <:mana3:292901508771610624><:manab:292901508872273920><:manag:292901508654301185>
Legendary Creature — Frog Horror
Deathtouch
At the beginning of your upkeep, sacrifice The Gitrog Monster unless you sacrifice a land.
You may play an additional land on each of your turns.
Whenever one or more land cards are put into your graveyard from anywhere, draw a card.
6/6
cards
if it say lands, then any form of lands hitting the grave will trigger it
and it sees each time land(s) rather than each land touch the grave
Ahh
so an effect or cost that sac all the lands at once
will only trigger it for a single draw
rather than multiple draw
one land one draw, 10 lands one draw
and it triggers AFTER the card is put from anywhere in the graveyard, rather than leave somewhere and put into the graveyard
which is why the MDFC thing i said before wont work
a small semintic i guess
I am ruling geek
😅
[[springheart nantuko]] is a really good card, i just dont see the place for it in the deck
Enchantment Creature — Insect Monk
Bestow

Enchanted creature gets +1/+1.
Landfall — Whenever a land you control enters, you may pay
if this permanent is attached to a creature you control. If you do, create a token that's a copy of that creature. If you didn't create a token this way, create a 1/1 green Insect creature token.
1/1
low creature count to begin with, so not many options to enchant
if it has to enchant, the creatures that are worth are decently high cost in mana
i was kinda thinking rampaging baloths would be a good target for that
idk
ill cut it
idk how to win with the deck rn
but surely
with the amount of card advantage thats to be had
lol
so it will be a big creature + 2 mana worth of mana to enchant and still need landfall to trigger for follow up play
if the deck has smaller creatures i think it would be a great add
all the 6 + mana double green creatures
something needs to get cut
i could probably remove the gitrog, ravenous ride
multani can win games with trample
he doesnt really fit into the deck anymore
yeah ravenous ride need big power
but idk
its ... okay, not great. i just dont know how many times you want to spend mana on it
its strong if
you have no board after a boardwipe
and a graveyard full of lands
it just kinda got out powercreeped ?
i think i cut it
[[titania, nature's force]] on the fence about this one
i dont know this card too well though
with no dual lands, a total of 14 forest in the deck
snow dual comes in tapped and is cheap, but even with all the duals, idk if you actually want this, i think this is where i cut it for [[conduit of worlds]]
i would cut one removal here between deathsprout or drown in filth
cut drown in filth
i checked, the deck dont have enough ramp
so gitrog is not coming out early most of the time
i think the land count is high enough, 2-3 mana sorcery that gets more lands into play would do
i dont usually try to put cultivate/yavimiya reach in two colour decks but those are cheap commander staples most people already own
ramparting growth is is fine as one for one dont need all the more expensive forest ramp
there is another version of [[harrow]] th is it in here
svylvan scrying doesnt ramp since the card doesnt go to the field
oh yeah entish restoration is already in here
i am sure you like [[ashaya, soul of the wild]] its fun, I just cant find the payoff for it in here. let me know if i am missing something
[[life // death]] cant really see the payoff on this one either
both cards cares about creature cards in some ways
for death to be worth it, will need some fast self mill
reanimate is really good
hmm
[[dredge]] i think this isnt worth it
even without the sac
its one mana one card
with no creatures out, you HAVE TO sac a land
if there are like 8 lands on board, it deosnt matter
but the early game is where the struggle is
losing two cards to draw one, gitrog only breaks even when you draw two
im trying to think of other good landfall cards
lotus cobra maybe
ob nixillis the fallen
if you dont mind the pricey tag
i have ob nixillis the fallen

😭
well, here in Canada everything is also like 1.5x the price
canadian eh
for the same reason i stated, i cant bring myself to like [[merciless resolve]]
this one draws two but the sac really hurt
i did spell "colour" a couple times instead of color
most of my family is from quebec lol
but i noticed your attention wasnt in chat lot of the times
low creature count, and its a 5 drop
if it gets lands or have other synergy that would be differernt story
out of the 19 "ramp" only 12 actually ramp
can add [[temple of the false god]] since i gives two mana, but it is awful if you dont have enough it taps for 0
[[blighted woodland]]
basically myriad landscape in green
add the lotus cobra it ramps
and some of the rampart cards i named above
butt was that a joke...

amazing if commander is out, the bounce can also make up for the card advantage from losing too many lands
should i maybe add [[gaeas blessing]]
make it so i never deck myself with self mill
oh and maybe a [[reliquary tower]] or do i want to discard
deck has been ordered
this deck doesnt really self mill, i dont think you will deck out that quick
have you ever played [[cultivator colossus]]
i dont think you will get the lands in hand and being a 7 drop get stuck in hand a lot
with gitrog, either want to mill, send lands to gy, or additional land drop ramp it all out.
i cant even get the two lands drop from azusa atm
cultivator is my first cut, and then azusa may end up going if she continue to not be able to get lands out, since the deck dont have [[crucible of worlds]] its so pricey though
i can see putrify and krosan grip getting upgrades but thats about it
mau adjust forest to swamp ratio if the deck has more green than before
the deck does have crucible of worlds effects
