Hey all, building my first deck here. I've always loved spirits so I decided to brew a UW deck helmed by Millicent. Need some help cutting 10 cards. Am also very open to suggestions for substitutions, but I'd like to keep the cost of the deck under $350. Thank you for your time! π

So what I'd do here is first up changes, then sum up the decks stats and then proceed with cuts what do you think?
@wide harness
I've removed a few things, but I've arranged your deck into their "roles"
I feel that you need more mana ramp
[[Kindred Discovery]] should be added, the work it does is crazy strong
[[Supreme Verdict]] is a nice upgrade fo rthe colours you're in, instead of a 5 cmc wrath
cut some protection and there too many pumps could cut a few
yeah I'm not a big fan of anthem (+1/+1) effects in tribal strategies
since you're in blue, you shouldn't REALLY need Cavern of Souls, if you're looking to keep costs down
since you're in blue / white, [[Smothering Tithe]] and [[Windfall]] are amazing
especially since you have Cyclonic Rift
you're still below 3 game changers at that rate
Some of the protection effects could be swapped for good countermagic
[[Nikko-Onna]] is some nice tec for your list actually
I added [[Sire of the Storm]] to the list but it's a weaker version of [[Kindred Discovery]]
[[Tallowisp]] used to be a standard allstar but you aren't running many auras
[[Celestial Kirin]] can be funny, and very mean if you combine it with [[ugin's conjurant]] to destroy all lands
[[Cloudhoof Kirin]] is perhaps a better finisher
though it's a long to mill someone out by casting spirits
tbh the deck is looking to cut cards not add more so it probably best you give recommends for cuts as well
i do like some of these adds to
oh yeah, I'm aware π I was just making suggestions before I hack and slash at the deck π
the list I linked is at 100, I believe
woah thank you so much everyone. I'm in for a Stellaris session tonight but I will take a look tomorrow. Cheers!
This may sound weird, but this is a card I dont really recommend unless you are already aware of what it brings to the table (even before bracket was a thing) The power is definitely there and the ability is one of a kind, it is just not always the "fun" card to have out in my opiion. Without going in-depth into it, i dont think you want to invest into buying the card for your first deck.
Hmmm to me it helps to keep up decks that have better mana Ramp. One of the cards I really like to pair it with is [[Martyr's Bond]]
Enchantment
Whenever this enchantment or another nonland permanent you control is put into a graveyard from the battlefield, each opponent sacrifices a permanent of their choice that shares a card type with it.
"Our lives are connected by divine law. The truth of this will be made evident in time." βZedruu the Greathearted
But using windfall effects, or something like [[Emergency Powers]] or even [[Echo of Eons]] is amazing
Since the deck already ran Cyclonic Rift, I feel like this would be the best / most impactful game changer to pair it with
Wheeling right after a mass return is devastating
well, good luck. I hope you are only new to commander decks and not new to magic. Playing with power comes with a cost, just not noticeable within the game.
I've been playing commander since 2012...
And I've had no issues playing games π it's all about WHEN you deploy the threats. Or having the right protection.
Regarding the cost, I bought about 10 Smothering Tithes when they first got released for about Β£4 each. People REALLY underestimated them then
The "cost outside the game" is a dubious statement. You shouldn't assume the power level that people normally play at or what they can afford. At the end of the day, it's only my 20th year playing magic. Everyone has different levels of experience and access to this game. It's best not to shun people just because of suggestions they make π
I think both views are valid and it does tend to depend the play groups you are at. I refraid from recommend expensive cards cause usually the person should know these popular game changer exist and there probably a reason why it not there. Ultimately it for the deckbuilder themselves who wants these changers and what they are looking for
However dismissing people experience with the game is pretty unwarranted
i think you took it too personal. I didnt shun anyone for the suggestion. I simply gave my opinion and asked if you are aware of what the card brings. You did say it is your first deck here. Thats why I said "I hope you are only new to commander decks and not magic"
Whenever you have billions of dollars to spend, own 10 copies, or proxy friendly, its your money. The cost of playing with power is referring how the group reacts to the card.
Am also very open to suggestions for substitutions, but I'd like to keep the cost of the deck under $350. I don't need to say no more, take it with a grind of salt.
"well, good luck. I hope you are only new to commander decks and not new to magic", I'm really sorry but I thought you were asking about my magic credentials. Wording can be very difficult to interrupt on the internet. This IS a rude statement. If it wasn't your intention, take it as a learning experience rather than being salty about being called out.
If you disagree with my recommendations, that's fine but it's better if you give valid reasons instead of trying dismiss someone's knowledge.
I never said that this was my first deck π
actually mb on the reply, it was directed at the OP so I wasn't trying to reply to you message at all
That's probably where a lot of the confusion came from then π
. If the player doesn't, you create a Treasure token. (It's an artifact with "
, Sacrifice this token: Add one mana of any color.")
(You may cast this card from your graveyard for its flashback cost. Then exile it.)
