Hello! This is my first-ish attempt at making a deck from initial idea to completion. To be clear: It's bad. I'm fine with it being bad for the time being. I, however, suck at making cuts. I need advice on which cards I should remove. I'm trying to avoid getting too much direction when it comes to adding cards, but a suggestion won't be ignored. My biggest concern is to cut weaker cards and make sure I have a healthy curve.

My goal with this deck is to get a medium sized board of Vampires, maybe 3 to 4 creatures, and swing for big connive turns and try to keep up a mix of small tokens and one 'useful' guy to get all the 1/1 counters.

I've put some cards as "Considering." These are cards I've cut for lots of reasons, usually just cost or availability and most of them I'd like to put into the deck EVENTUALLY.

I'd like to try and get the decklist down to 95 cards so I have some wiggle room to add more interaction.

Any suggestions are appreciated!

Thoughts at the beginning is more mass removal and maybe some more ramp. You don't wanna put much more than 30 cards in your deck that hit your theme, the rest should be interaction, draw and ramp

My biggest struggle is that I'm not amazing at deciding if a card should be cut. I had more ramp/removal previously but I ended up cutting a lot just due to cost of the cards.

#

My goal is to get the deck down to under 100 so I can slot in a few more instances of removal and counterspells. I'm honestly pretty lost on additional ramp though, I'm used to being in green that just has ramp everywhere.

[[Oskar]] do you plan on discarding much? didn't see that yet

Conniving does lots of discarding

limpid tapir
#

[[Anowon]] I don't see much that gives you non-vampires, so worst case it causes you to sac your commander every time

cloud ivyBOT
#

Multiple cards match “Anowon”, can you be more specific?

limpid tapir
#

[[Anowon, the ruin]]

cloud ivyBOT
spiral lava
#

Yeah that's a good point

limpid tapir
#

but you don't have that much conniving in your deck

spiral lava
#

I guess I don't have enough experience to know if the conniving from the commander is enough. I assumed after turn 3 and 4 I'd probably be conniving 3-4 times a turn. Is that a pipedream?

limpid tapir
#

a bit more redundancy wouldn't hurt I think

#

2 board wipes and she's up to 7 mana

spiral lava
#

Maybe I'll move the discard focused stuff out for now, maybe come back to it later once I've gotten a basedeck built and played?

limpid tapir
#

I also see a lot of sacrifice, but not actually a thing to get tokens to sacrificce

spiral lava
#

I'll be honest I did not realize I had a lot of sacrifice stuff lol. I definitely do the thing where I put too many THINGS into a deck and it's diluted.

limpid tapir
#

ya, I think you should either stick to lifelink/drain, or connive stuff

#

maybe exchange some of the sacrifice things for connive/payoffs

#

I definitely see an interesting theme here

spiral lava
#

I think I want to focus on conniving the most. So I'll take a look at the sacrifice creatures and make some decisions.

#

I appreciate the talk

limpid tapir
#

if I see that correctly you currently are at 116 cards?

spiral lava
#

Lmao yeah

#

I honestly just went through scryfall and just put in a bunch of stuff that vaguely aligned with vamp stuff.

#

Then started cutting. Arrived here.

limpid tapir
#

ya I'd say kick out most of the sacrifice things and payoffs, some of the token generators as well, and see how it looks

#

[[Call to the Feast]] for example

cloud ivyBOT
limpid tapir
#

it looks like you want to go a bit more tall instead of wide

#

depending on how much you're milling youself a [[labratory maniac]] would actually make sense then

cloud ivyBOT
spiral lava
#

See, I thought I'd want both. Since going wide is sort of needed to be tall

#

I might just not fully understand how to utilize my commander properly, since it's a commander focused deck.

limpid tapir
#

sure, but 3 random 1/1s wont do you much good

#

rather get a few nice creatures which can actually use the counters

#

also you're discarding a lot so [[Archfiend of Ifnir]] might be a nice one sided board wipe each combat

cloud ivyBOT
limpid tapir
#

[[Syr Konrad]] can also deal some damage

cloud ivyBOT
#

Legendary Creature — Human Knight
Whenever another creature dies, or a creature card is put into a graveyard from anywhere other than the battlefield, or a creature card leaves your graveyard, Syr Konrad, the Grim deals 1 damage to each opponent.
mana1manab: Each player mills a card. (They each put the top card of their library into their graveyard.)
5/4

spiral lava
#

Oh, I actually own him too. I should add him.

If you're saying cut some of the 1/1 stuff, would march of the canonized make the cut still?

#

The ifnir card is just too pricy right now so it's being considered

limpid tapir
#

ya I think the march is a good card to keep

spiral lava
#

I should have also said ignore the lands for now, I plan on fleshing the base out later once I know my remaining budget.

limpid tapir
#

I actually ignored them 😛

#

mana base is very much depending on your budget

spiral lava
#

Yeah, I'll have all the pain lands in, then mostly just basics for the time being.

limpid tapir

I'm Canadian and my LGS has 0 of them for 6.50 right now. I'm just trying to keep my decklist under 100 bucks (canadian) and it's already at around 90 bucks American

#

If I don't budget I overspend and then I'll feel bad

limpid tapir
#

cut down and the price might drop some

spiral lava
#

Alright, I managed to cut down to 98 for now. I'll cut more over time and add some interaction and probably more connive stuff

limpid tapir
#

98 cards or canadian bucks?

spiral lava
#

Cards. I added a couple back just to do some playtesting on Mox over lunch

#

So it's back at 100

#

i like this deck, i love vampires seems very chill and i know a lot of good upgrades

spiral lava
#

I really like the White vamps. They have a cool look to them. In a month I'll probably have the cards and be able to physically playtest

#

Then I'll start to get the good upgrades and actually win

dusky locust
#

sounds good id say start from the lands since its a 3 color deck usally i play white black vampires

#

ive been tinkering around with this deck

#

im trying to figure out a theme and special win condintion for it
