#Chainer Deck good to play with friends or too competitive?

Hi everyone,
i have a question regarding my mono black chainer deck https://archidekt.com/decks/7562395
In our friends group we agrred to not play anything too competitive and just have fun but i really fell in love with k'rrik but obviously this is not ok in casual rounds since he is very powerful on his own, so i opted to just use him as a normal card in the deck and use chainer as commander instead.

This is the deck i built and i am unsure if i will lose some friends if i bring it to our game nights since i have a hard time evaluating the power level and don't know if it is to hefty. I would appreciate any kind of advice

That looks very casual to me but I can't really speak for your friends. Expectations for commander can be very different for different people.

I'd advice you to add more lands though, no matter what power level you're aiming for. You have some big X-cost spells that ask you to play more lands. I would swap some of the more expensive ramp cards like Burnished Hart and Gilded Lotus for 2-3 more lands. 33 lands makes sense for a K'rrik deck because everything is cheaper but Chainer is a bit different.

Temple of the False God is also very questionable in any deck that doesn't play more than one land per turn and is considered a trap card.

Hi! Thanks for the feedback, appreciate it πŸ™‚ i think i will remove the cards you mentioned including temple for more lands then πŸ‘ temple of the false god would make more sense in ramp heavy decks like green then? on paper i though it was a good include ^^
I wasn't sure if using all these tutors (i also count entomb since i run chainer) is too much "search and combo away" for a casual deck, so thanks for the reassurance!

I'd second that the list looks to be fairly casual to me. And while I agree that your mana could likely do with a slight modification to be more consistent, I'd differ from Noxar here by suggesting you cut the Sanguine Bond and Blood Tithe for more basic swamps.

For context on why I'd suggest those cards in particular:
The quantity of big splashy cards at the top of your curve makes me think that your deck is likely in a winning position if it is able to reach the late game on equal footing. And incidental lifegain is a fine method of keeping yourself alive to reach that point. I don't think you need more payoffs for lifegain, surviving to the end game where you can start dropping massive demons is likely payoff enough.

#

And to discuss your nonbasics specifically, I think this deck is a good place for Temple of the False God. I recognize that it is not a good card in competitive lists (few competitive lists want 4 lands in play, let alone 5), but a casual list like this with so many 6+ drops and minimal colored requirements is the perfect place for it. Yes, the card often appears to be better than it is to novice deckbuilders, but this is genuinely a case where it would be good.

That said, I would recommend swapping the Evolving Wilds for a [[cabal stronghold]] as your list doesn't really benefit from deck thinning and would prefer more mana doubling effects instead.

Hi @peak locust ! Ok i see your point with Sanguine Bond and Blood Tithe. Also regarding Temple of the False God, maybe Ancient Tomb would be better since it is unconditional giving me 2 colorless and taking 2 damage is also not too bad, also with Vilis, Broker of Blood it would also draw 2 cards?
I also agree, that swapping evolving wilds for Cabal Stronghold is a good idea (even though the price for a land is quite steep) πŸ™‚
Thank you for the great suggestions and the thoughts behind them, that helped a lot!

Oh shit. Did not realize the stronghold had jumped so much!

#

Ancient Tomb would undoubtedly be a stronger card, but it is also definitely one of those cards that may make some people insist that your deck is "high power" so maybe not? Idk, that's more of a question for your playgroup than me an online rando.

yeah i don't know much it was in the past but the lowest i se is 12 euros ^^ Good point, Ancient Tomb looks somewhat like a manacrypt so maybe it is too much for the power level i am aiming for. But i will ask in my friends group what they think πŸ‘ You know, i will take all the opinions from people i can get to get a feel for what is accepted for certain scenarios πŸ™‚ (jesus what happened to my english, apologies, it is not my mother tongue..)

No worries! English is such an obnoxiously complex language that I also get mixed up (and I'm a professional writer and native English speaker hahah)

#

Also, feel free to tag me in any decklists in the future. I've been playing commander for 16+ years and really enjoy giving feedback to others as they learn to make their own decks (bizarrely, helping others make their decks helps me spend less money on my own so it's a win-win)

Thanks a lot πŸ™‚
Holy more than 16 years is crazy! I just discovered it through my friend about half year ago and i am slowly getting into it (still having some trouble with some mechanics and especially trigger order and what not). I will definitely get in touch when i need some more help, which i will need for sure ^^

Hi friends! I played a couple of games with the previous decklist and i always felt a little bit dry in terms of card draw so i updated the deck list and added a little bit more consistency to the graveyard play. i really fell in love with yawgmoth's will so i also added it and was not disappointed.
I probably made it now closer to cEDH than towards casual but it is so addicting to combo off.
Anyways, if anyone would like to give some feedback on the decklist, any feedback will be welcome!
Cheers πŸ™‚ @peak locust (sorry to ping you, i just though you may want to have another look)

Yeah, yawg will is certainly a powerful card!

#

Yeah, the only card draw engines you have are Yawgmoth, Thrann Physician or one of the big demons or Phyrexian Arena. You could try something like [[ayara, first of]] or [[kaervek, the punisher]] as mid-cost creatures you that could eek out a few extra cards? Personally, I think Ayara would be a great upgrade over the Staff of the Death Magus.

Alternatively, you could include something like [[mind splicer]] to try and shut off everyone's hands and of course you can always reanimate from any graveyard so could potentially snag an opponent's big lad.

I'd still suggest cutting the Evolving Wilds for a basic land

#

And finally, your last option is to cut a few of the expensive creatures for a few more efficient kill spells. Idea being you can kill an opponent's value creature, and then reanimate it on your side with your commander. To be perfectly clear, I have no idea if this is actually viable, but it seems fun enough to at least try out.

Hi! Thanks man, yeah i forgot to remove evolving wilds from the decklist, i swapped it for a normal swamp for now.
Mindslicer is a good idea, but i am not sure if i would get some angry looks ^^
I just realized some of my upgrades didn't register. Regarding card draw i added "Greed" since with K'rrik i could potentially draw my whole deck with some life gain engines.
Kaervek is a very nice idea! i will certainly see how that feels πŸ™‚

But all in all the deck feels amazing to pilot, sometime it feels like solitaire though with all the card draw and basically for free spells with K'rrik xD
