If you haven't tried already, remove the driver using DDU (Display Driver Uninstaller)
It should completely remove the current driver, then simply install the latest driver for your graphics card.

If you're having trouble uninstalling, removing or deleting your old video card drivers or having trouble installing drivers for a new graphics card? Then DDU may be able to help. This video is a step by step tutorial showing where to download Display Driver Uninstaller, how to install it to your PC and how to use DDU to uninstall your old Dis...
I found an old thread on the vistax64 forums, where someone also had project torque(although back in 2009) crashing on the same module. https://www.vistax64.com/threads/a-couple-of-my-pc-games-have-stopped-working-can-anyone-help-me-rectify-this.251321/
Hi All...
I have A couple of games installed on my Laptop. that have Stopped working.
One has always stopped working as soon as I launch it. it is called:
F.E.A.R Combat
But the Other game I like and has worked fine up utill today is called:
Project Torque.
The error message I am met with...
Also if you're on the latest video driver, try one older release
I hope that might give you new ideas ๐
I had a couple of games randomly crashing a month ago due to a windows update btw, I think it was KB5030310. Unsure if microsoft have fixed this but I reversed that update.. ooh well
@swift goblet even on a fresh copy of windows the game doesn't work lol
hmm tried an older gpu driver?
wonderful on a fresh install of windows 11, and no go
Yeah that's the same exception code, acces violation as well
I'm out of luck, I really don't want to be running out of date drivers
because that will just lend to problem with other games later down the line
Yeah if you run newly released games you can't do without
i'm out of idea's
The only thing I still have left is one of the replies I read on the vista64 forum, which is looking into DEP(Data Execution Prevention), though to only disable it for PT.
It might be the cause of the issues disallowing PT to access a certain memory block.
I don't want to go too much into how PT 'securily' loads it's app but who knows..
I wish I could reproduce the exception ๐ญ
It might just be the case for PT if it loads some data to the disk and tries to access that on loading the game.. DEP prevents that from happening (basically only allowing data from memory)
You'd only want to disable it for ProjectTorque.exe from your steamfolder(install folder for the game).. might be worth a try
After that I'm out of ideas as well
@swift goblet same result doesn't work
Screw this game at this point
last thing would be trying to run PT as admin.. but perhaps you've already tried that one
no different lol
Well, hopefully in the future someone is able to find a solution or the culprit
Haha well, netherlands.. I've recently updated my gpu so wasn't sure if PT would run, but I made it to the login screen soo..
i get to the splash logo then poof
hmm.. perhaps the tmp file is set to read only
the one from the event viewer
Faulting module path: C:\Users\Administrator\AppData\Local\Temp\b0494a1f-4bd3-gcWpWYX+pmHkhupW3j1t+w==\CRC_ReleaseNoDebug.dll
Anyhow it's late, if you ever want to try things to possibly fix it, hit me up (tag me here)
tried no luck
I was thinking earlier that it would be the pro version of windows, but I'm actually running 11 pro as well ๐ค
aah.. anyhow thanks for trying ๐
Cheers for trying to help man, much appreciated ^-^
Did you try all of these suggestions? https://community.projecttorque.racing/threads/unable-to-open-game.205/post-9846
Can't find chat in saves
1692774743
And it's not hidden
1692774918
I tried using VPN and it didn't work
In the save folder are following folders: chat, controls, game replays
Uh perhaps there is a hardware issue, mind tellin us your pc specs? Cpu ram gpu?
I would like to help out. I have a Win11 machine I could give it a try.
I also use win11 pro, though its unlicensed
Weirdly enough, my main PC and the W11 machine I mentioned fails to start the game
It just opens and closes after 5 sec
Did re-download and clean start, no dice.
I feel like Windows Updates might broke it, since it was possible few years ago
i had the game before on 11. it was fine for me
I would give some more attempts to find a solution
@desert gazelle is there perhaps a way to allocate ram to the game?
I've tried with less ram still a no go
this looks. fun
Do you have all vc++ installed? Here's a handy all-in-one download: https://www.techpowerup.com/download/visual-c-redistributable-runtime-package-all-in-one/
Sometimes i had this being the issue on several systems
@bright otter I do it the first thing I do on any os install ^-^
the logs suggest a memory error
@dusky prawn unlikely the issue, this is legit the only game that doesn't run, All my other games run with out issues
this is the most misterious mystery i had in a long while
Same lol
But gotta say, it was working with 10 or 11
Even I played like one year ago
but then when I tried today, it did not.
I am suspecting Windows Update as it tends to break something despite fixes
It's a memory access error, some memory pages in windows are protected from apps to be written or read. This to prevent malware and whatsoever to be infiltrate into secured data pages. Also some pages can be protected by other applications.. (like security software).
In theory it can be anything, but most likely something that blocks access.
Did you have bitlocker enabled perhaps?
Nope
Risky buttt. Disable your antivirus
Just checked my own PT logs, I'm on an newer version of windows OS 6.2.9200 SP:0 instead of your OS 6.1.7600 SP:0
I'm also running a 3900x btw
Disable defender. Or restrict its access to pt game folder
Which OS version does it have?
What is defender and what is a anti-virus ๐ค๐ jokes a side I don't have either
Win11 23h2
Hmm crazy theory, recheck whether your gpu is seated properly in the pci slot
(Although I wonder whether @rotund egret was also running an nvidia gpu)
@swift goblet I'm legit scratching my head because all my others games run fine even stuff like bio shock lol
Tried running Prime95 (blend test) ?
I run 4 sticks of DDR4, at 3800 mhz, although it's 4x 8gb..
my timings if it would help you out,
โ ๏ธ don't mess with these if you don't know how to pull cmos battery to reset the bios.
I have also tried about a few settings in my graphics card driver, from enabling and disabling vsync to disabling and enabling upscaling
I wish I could somehow replicate it
I have just installed and launched the game on my Windows 11 PC. Fresh ~ a week ago
No issues
All I can sugest is to try reinstalling .NET 3.5
Main is 10 with latest ver.
RTX 2060
@desert gazelle I am curious. Is it have to do with latest game update breaking that? I mean, your test was done in latest client version of the game?
I wanted to clear that assumption.
Interesting, I only have got a very old ehh 250 gts I could use to test
Funny enough, I always wanted to get 250. For my XP rig
haha yeah I think it was a rebranded 9800 series?
Yeah. 256 bit and so on.
Back to the topic, it's weird situation. The game literally were working before.
I saw something regarding an nvidia network access manager that might cause the same exception.. might be worth checking out.. unless it's not even installed in your case
Is it separate thing or comes in Nvidia drivers?
I wouldn't know, sorry I've been using amd gpus since 2010 ๐ (HD 6870 X2 -> R9 290X -> 6950 XT)
Uuff.
I will give some more tests today. In fact I will go wild and test the game on 7 and XP rigs I have.
Yep. I have PC for every OS, lmao.
It would be nice if we can some kind find the culprit as it prevents people from playing ๐
Mhm. I used to help a few people here using remote control. While risky, was able to solve their problems. Some had missing stuff like NET Framework or C++ and a few had game location.
I just want to be able to replicate the issue so I can attach a debugger
In the end.. there has to be a solution!
I could try to use one of my instable ram timings.. and give it a shot.. or instable cpu settings..
Main thing I wonder about, is it gpu manufacturer/driver related.. will probably look into the logs on the forum tomorrow evening
Yeah. I will keep on testing with my best of abilities and come with some reports.
