Pros
Farm = much easier to sell
Vend = more expensive

Cons
Farm = take a long time to make + low profit

Vends = need time to think about the design + you need to be careful when building it so you don't waste any block and make your profits smaller.

Depending on the item you want to invest in ,
is it an old item or new one .

Old item = you can use this discord server to research about the prices of people buying it and selling it using the "before: or during:" in the search bar and from them you can get enough data to determine when the prices are going up and down.

New item = what you need to do basically afk at the buy+ and collect enough data of people selling and buying the item or you can use this server to collect the buy and sell prices, for the safety reasons i might say wait for 10-14 days after the item release before you determine buying it or no (basically if most people selling it the prices going down but if most of people trying to buy that item the prices going up ).

Quick tip for new item

• you can try to trading that item in the 1-2 days after the item release ( at least 1-2 dl , below that pls don't do it )

Tbf you can't really make profit in startopia before you get the role level.

Ofc you still can profit if you're lucky at getting expensive growlactus reward or you can try to do startopia using gemonade ( i recommend when server has no lag/delay)

Because of your background as a trader i will say you can try something like trading surgery packs ( if you are willing to wait until surgery day) , trading ATM or tackle (it's kinda hard to make profit from here) , or you can try to buy items that are going to be more expensive at specific events (next month are winter so you can try to buy fishing fly /shiny bait ).

Tbf i don't really know if you're an active or not but considering the potato server I am only giving the one that will not make you rage quit
