ok, that should be enough, but you said you did the ram thing wrong?
you go to instalations, the instalation, more options, and change the first number (it should be in mb, for vanilla its in gb)

If the launcher you are using has the option to keep the console window open, that seems to offer a better indication once the game window appears as to if it froze or not.
