#On Ad Astra, other Dimensions, and Server Teleportation

I think Ad Astra is one of the coolest mods in AoF6. However, a LOT of what makes the mod neat is severely diminished by the ability to set homes and directly teleport to other planets/celestial bodies. The same can be said for unique and interesting dimensions like the Ancient City Portal (Deeper Dark), AE2 Spatial Dimension, Bumblezone, and others.

I suggest that all teleports to unique dimensions like Ad Astra planets and other non-vanilla dimensions be disabled/blacklisted on the official servers. This includes any /home or /tpa commands.

Let's make modded dimensions more interesting by making them a novelty to get to. This would also make planetary travel more interesting, and setting up a base on the moon, or in the deeper dark, a neat flex. If possible, allow Waystones to these dimensions with a high experience level (like literally 100 experience levels) requirement.

This can also open the door to the possibility of other planets containing unique ores that can help or gate progression in the AoF packs, resulting in a direct need for Ad Astra in the packs, and thereby also carving the mod it's own niche in the AoF ecosystem rather than just being supplementary.

Agreed. A big part of the mods like Ad Astra and other galacticraft type stuff is the travel and achievement of going back and forth imo

Great idea, the teleports and sethomes are already OP enough

Yes, I fully agree. You lose some of the antiquity of mods like Ad Astra when traveling back and forth becomes a simple command on a keyboard

I personally wouldn't appreciate nerfing waystone travel to modded dimensions. I get the point your making but not everyone wants to have to grind every time to get to another dimension, grinding for the first travel is fine.

Waystones and /home are your reward for the grind to get there in the first place. If i had to load everything up into a rocket every time I wanted to go to the space station I made to grow all my veggies in "space" I wouldn't do it and I'd just grow them in the overworld in same "normal" setup and never use the mod again after i completed it. i think that's a sadder outcome then being able to tp back after i have completed the quests or mod.

no way if that happens like i would murder ma self

#

because if you die

#

you kinda lose youre stuff

#

need to build new rocket aswell

#

and if its not even moon

#

mars or shm

#

you have to go back to moon grind and then go to mars

nova hull

It seems like some people just favor the lazy solution over an immersive and interesting solution. What's the point of doing anything interesting in a modpack if there's no sense of danger or unknown? If you can just teleport instantly back to Mars to basically where you died, then why even do it to begin with? These are game development 101 questions.

teleporting back would still be a struggle due to lack of oxygen, but the /back command after death is something that one can choose to use or not. Losing a backpack of stuff or having to build my way back to mars travel because of some dumb luck death...probably would be enough to make me want to quit. the servers are arguably set up to be easier than SP on purpose, so arguing "make the server more punishing because its more immersive" is a flawed argument to begin with

#

the struggle is getting there, the novelty is in exploring the new environment. neither of which requires punishing the player because they didnt git gud or anticipate their own death

peak dune
#

Yea thats what i think to

clear sand
#

on 1.4.2 you can store your stuff remotely from other dimensions with a Skilled Accessor or higher; bit risky to have that low of a tier though because that's only 7 uses total before you have to recalibrate

midnight silo
#

you could also just use entangled bag and chest

#

the point is not "can i store my stuff" but "why punish the player"

clear sand
#

but the /back command after death is something that one can choose to use or not
making players self-balance can actually put the pressure on them

nova hull
midnight silo
#

the back command is only on the server specifically, and its goal is to make it easier for players to get back to their stuff if they die a long way away.
the suggestion is literally contrary to the point of enabling it in the first place

#

the same exact argument could be made for disabling when over 1000 blocks away

"a LOT of what makes [minecraft] neat is severely diminished by the ability to set homes and directly teleport to other biomes and structures."
"Let's make [minecraft biomes and structures] more interesting by making them a novelty to get to."

#

rare mansion spawns can just be teleported back to when you die, removing all the struggle of actually exploring them.

nova hull
#

No idea what you're on about Ling. Statistically, 80% of the people who have viewed this thread agree with me that teleporting is OP.

#

It's up to AK now.

midnight silo
#

i dont disagree that its OP, but it was specifically a design choice put onto the servers and enabled lol

home is ok, back isn't fun. How do you do an strategy to find a way to recover your thingys when you drop down on a cave for accident?

I prefer to make a place where I can do a checkpoint somehow. Like those Nether anchors that needs glowis for work as a Spawn point.

#

Why not put a timer onto the command so everyone can be happy on that?

my nuclear take is that we should remove waystones and /home from the pack entirely. maybe even /tpa
there are legitimately plenty of other fast travel/teleportation options (hexcasting is the most versatile option afaik, plenty of mods have things like flight/Fast Running/trains, flugel eye from botania, void world or nether travel, beds still set spawn...) that are passed over and ignored in favour of waystones. elytra + fireworks still exists and we all know how fast that is.

I agree about other dimensions, but not overworld. It's fun to use /rtp and travel far away from your house and then simply teleport back

#

Maybe /home and /tpa should be removed and replaced with mods

#

Such as hex casting (not really versatile, it's expensive to teleport and has some other downsides) or waypoints (portable waypoint teleport is mainly useless rn)

While I personally would prefer not having /home, the players overwhelmingly prefer it. I am of the mind that Waystones and other means of teleporting already included in the pack should be the methods of choice. But this is not a friends server, this is a public server, and those commands from all those other "vanilla" servers have become to prevalent not to include them on our servers.

Not on death point

Not sure how specific I can be with those configs, but /home sure, didn't think rtp worked in other dim, but I can look into that, and blocking /tpa is a bit much.

dire tangle
#

Rtp works in different dimensions and teleports you to the overworld

sour arch
#

with preventing /home, I was referring to setting a /home in certain dimensions. Not disabling it to leave the dim. But I can see not allowing /back when using /home. I am limited to the mods config options though. But I will certainly look into a few things.

#

I honestly see no issue with /rtp since it just takes you to overworld, although perhaps that is annoying to find out, it shouldn't take too many times of doing that to learn it won't work. Or are you saying to prevent a free overworld tp? I mean you can make a portable wormhole waystone thing that lets you teleport to any known waystone so not really a big deal.

dire tangle
#

Fair

#

But wormhole requires nether star

#

...and 90% of the times its still useless

sour arch
#

I don't think tping away from a dim should be prevented, but commands to teleport you back probably should be.

carmine tapir
#

going back to the overworld is perfectly fine

#

the overworld is where all the things happen by default, and it's the area that will be the most travelled/explored/colonised. it's also, of course, the area with the least Unique Things for people to investigate, and the area people are most familiar with, so it's best not to overstress the travel requirements there

#

also wormhole is not even close to useless lmao it's the most useful item for pure convenience. if y'all aren't using it constantly you need to put down more waystones
