#Consolidate Amethyst Powder and Dusts?

Currently, we have Amethyst Dust from both Tech Reborn and Hex Casting, as well as Amethyst powder from Spectrum.

We also have some odd behavior going on. I'll use the following to refer to each item:

APS = Amethyst Powder (Spectrum)
ADT = Amethyst Dust (Tech Reborn)
ADH = Amethyst Dust (Hex Casting)

Tech Reborn's grinder turns Amethyst into APS instead of its own ADT.

Create's millstone makes APS, but its grinding wheel instead makes ADT.

I'm not sure how I ended up with ADH, but I found it in my inventory after doing some of these processes and it doesn't show up in REI at all for me.

So I'm not exactly sure if it's feasible to consolidate them into a single item, but I thought as it is some of the interactions are a bit counterintuitive.

TR and Hex Casting are unified

#

Not so sure for Spectrum as it’s tricky to balance it but I’ll look into it

Turning crystals into powder is fine for Spectrum. They provide some of this compat themselves, and creating it only requires an anvil

I’ll unify all of them then

Not sure if the Crafting Pedestal accepts anything other than the Powder though

#

Since it has dedicated slots for it

I think the weirdest part for me is that Create's behavior is inconsistent, given that in most cases the grinding wheel is an upgraded millstone

If the grinding wheel is an upgrade, shouldnt it be making finer dust in contrast to rougher powder?

ADH drops directly from mining Gemstone Buds, IIRC

I assumed by "unified" they meant "hex dust is created by TR machines and TR can use hex dust" rather than "they are both compatible". How did you get TR dust?

I ground amethyst in Create's crushing wheels, and got (heaps!) of TR dust

True. But i dont want either, just Hex. I agree its a good use of Create to have different results across the mill and the wheels.

AoF5 integrated Create much better. I realize there was a mod that did that; apparently it wasn’t maintained enough to pull along to 6.

It's still early days for AoF6 so I'm sure we'll get lots of things integrated across mods over time

I took a look at that mod’s source on github. It looked like basically the same work the pack authors do—a lot of recipe tweaks and unifications. Maybe it should just be subsumed into the pack?

(I’ve no experience writing mods or maintaining a pack, so take a big grain of salt with that.)

I would argue that while hex and TR definitely should have compatibility with each other, (maybe having all recipies create hex dust, since it is collected directly from amethyst shards as a semi rare drop)

However, I think spectrum powder should only be able to be crafted from anvil smashing. There are two unbreakable anvils in the pack, spectrum seems to at least accept vanilla anvils and it’s own unbreakable anvil, and automating something that either uses a create piston to lift and drop the anvil, or simply break and place it again using something like the AE2 obliteration panel, sounds like a fun and unique challenge.

Spectrum powder can be crafted in bulk pretty easily. One anvil dropped from 20 blocks up can crush something like 20 shards into 40 powder. Spectrum powder is also created and used in different ratios than the dust from TR, iirc, so it should probably remain as a separate item with separate crafting ratios.

Hex can get away with piggybacking off TR, since early hex isn’t automated, it’s purely an experimental phase, and you can use raw amethyst shards for payment.

Once you get further into hex, you can turn raw shards into phials, which are even more precise than dust, completely removing your need to use dust at all imo.

not to necropost, but hex/TR amethyst dust should be unified the other way. currently it's unified towards TR amethyst dust - so recipes give it - but hex amethyst dust specifically is required for hexes and cannot be used for casting. you also can't use it on hanging scrolls to make them display stroke order

nb: if i'm stupid and you can, ignore this, but i'm like 90% confident i'm right
