Don’t Look Now is the ultimate test of trust, who you lay your trust into will ultimately determine the fate of the game: trust the wrong person and be petrified by the Basilisk or give the evil team the info it needs to find the Damsel, but trust no one and slowly tear town apart from the inside at the behest of the Mesmerist. Trust is not easily earned in this town, between a minion that can mimic any good ability, two outsiders that can’t afford to be honest, and two ways to add extra evil players, any bit of trust town can gain is invaluable. But always be wary, too much trust reveals the Damsel, and any confirmed player could in reality be an Echo of the truth or a new addition to the evil team.

Fabled:
If an evil player would learn the Damsel, they instead learn any Outsider, or any townsfolk in a one Outsider game.

#

Your goal as good:
Your most important job is to protect the Damsel’s identity, the quickest way to lose the game is for everyone to be honest. Your second quickest way to lose the game is to give the Mesmerist two kills every night, so you can’t afford to always lie. Striking this balance and determining who you can trust with your identity is pivotal. You can never let evil know who you trust, if they do they can Mesmerize you with those you do not. Be wary of those who constantly shift roles, while they could be Mesmerized, they could also be the Echo, window shopping for any ability of their choice. Not every game with a Mesmerized claim is a game that includes a Mesmerist, evil players are fully able to lie about being Mesmerized. Most games don’t have a Mesmerist, and figuring out the Lord of Typhon when nobody trusts anyone, evil can look good, and a Mezepheles can put evil on the opposite side of the table is far from easy. Lines of players that seem suspicious are key; both the Lord of Typhon and the No Dashi generate a line of players with bad info, but tracking the tendrils of the No Dashi when most outsiders can’t afford to be known is no simple task. The good team has its work cut out for them, but it also has very powerful tools. If they can protect the many info gathering roles available and decide to trust the right people, they have the means to track down evil.

#

Your goal as evil:
Information is the name of the game. Every minion gives info in one way or another, and Ojo or Mesmerist can further narrow down characters by who dies. The script includes a large number of powerful townsfolk, finding and killing them, and more importantly finding the Damsel, is pivotal to victory. Use the Mesmerist to your advantage, in play or not, it makes good players want to trust you if you give them an excuse. Claiming to be mesmerized when no Mesmerist exists in game can protect other demons, “confirm” players, and keep town warry. Two minions on the script can be “spent”, and a third greatly benefits from constantly changing claims, making the bluff particularly viable. This bluff can be backed up by demon kills on the non-minion “mesmerized” player, and can even be used to cast doubt on that player as their claim “must have been a lie”. If you are a line based demon (No Dashi or Lord of Typhon), obscure the line at all costs. The good team struggles to get info on specifically Demons, so your line can often be your greatest liability.

#

Character Specifics:
Sleuth: One of the most powerful info gathering roles, but can never find the demon. This poisoning is for the rest of the game (a lot of people seem to miss that), so every pick becomes less and less confirmed and any minion result beyond the first night will leave you wondering if you have a real minion or if the player you picked the night before was the demon. Finding out when you became poisoned is the same as finding out who the demon is, but be wary this pattern looks exactly the same as a Basilisk.

Omen:
As the Omen you have an important job: do not get picked and do not get executed if you believe an Undertaker to be in the game. More than anything you want to die in the night. You offer potentially disastrous effects for the most powerful info gathering roles, the most important people to protect. But you can never tell anyone not to pick you, instead you need to fly under the radar while you can’t ever be honest. Finding other Outsiders could be pivotal, they can know what you are without risk, and potentially protect you, if they believe you.

Echo:
At first glance this character may seem absurd, being 17 different characters all at the same time is incredible, but with other player’s knowledge of the Echo, pulling off multiple claims is far from easy. Your ability only works when claimed publicly, which could immediately cast suspicion on you as most characters would be unlikely to publicly claim, especially earlier in the game. If you can pull off even one ability, being an evil with an ability that reads as good could be invaluable (especially considering the multiple confirming abilities on script). Use yourself to break lines generated by No Dashi and Lord of Typhon, protecting your demon. Claim to be Mesmerised as an excuse to constantly change character, and conceal the real demon. While you can never directly learn the Damsel your information could be pivotal to determining who they are. Virgin is one of the most powerful abilities available, not only can it kill a player, but it can often be used as a defense mechanism, especially at lower player counts, to protect yourself even when suspected. Be wary, as if doing so an Outsider can nominate you with impunity.

Basilisk:
A hybrid between an information gathering role and an information poisoning role. Learning which characters are truly in play could be invaluable for tracking down a Damsel or feeding an Ojo, and by knowing who you might be poisoning you can confirm your poisoning as only good targets. Getting players to trust you is pivotal, most of your ability will never activate if you can’t figure out who players are. Players who suspect they are drunk often claim so publically, especially with puzzlemaster, meaning you can often determine which claims you have correct. Your ability can perfectly mimic a Puzzlemaster or Sleuth that has picked the demon.

so first I'd turn off the "texture" feature for the official character icons, makes them look a lot better

#

you should probably also get icons that don't have white backgrounds but eh it's your choice

#

anyway

#

Sleuth is interesting, but might be far too strong? I mean, it's just as confirmable as Dreamer but unlike Dreamer, a chosen Minion has no out except for "one of your previous choices is the Demon" and if they're all dead you're basically outed evil? it's interesting though

#

Omen is interesting, but "something bad" is far too vague and unsolvable, and should be reserved for Fabled

#

it's also hard for the Storyteller to gauge exactly who knows the Omen's character? like, besides Dreamer, Grandmother and Sleuth

storm wadi
#

I think its basically just those + Undertaker and otherwise you treat it as madness

whole grotto
#

yeah that would probably work

#

Echo undermines Nightwatchman/Virgin but that's fine, my only real concern is that you should probably not give them the Alchemist ability

storm wadi
#

If your worried evil is doing too well just give them the Echo ability, was my thought

#

Still a minion that regesters as good so solid

whole grotto
#

Basilisk is. definitely helped by the script. it's a lot weaker than Poisoner but Poisoner is the strongest Minion in the game imo so it's fine

whole grotto
#

why does Mesmerist have Outsider modification? I don't see it interacting with Outsiders

storm wadi
#

Its really important for a Mesmerist game to possibly have the Damsel

#

Otherwise town just shares

whole grotto
#

hm, so it's like SNV's Vigormortis then

#

also does it tell the 1st what character to be mad as or does it just say "here's who you have to copy. good luck finding out what they are"

storm wadi
#

Yeah, just who, that's the idea

whole grotto
#

both work but second is more interesting imo

#

ic

storm wadi
#

So a madness demon that can't just be ignored

whole grotto
#

it doesn't have consistent killpower is my only real concern

storm wadi
#

Yeah I definitely need to test it

#

I have no clue if endgames just become everyone trusts eachother

whole grotto
#

now about the actual script and not just the characters in vacuums

storm wadi
#

Notably, almost always kills if one of the players selected is a minion

#

I'd probably only kill the minion most of the time

whole grotto
#

Lord of Typhon and Mezepheles is 2 extra evils (which, in smaller games of 7-8 players, can lead to 50% of players being evil)

storm wadi
#

Alchemist Mez is basically just better Politician, think it could be pretty fun but you definitely need to make a pretty powerful good team

#

I think in general Lord of Typhon is a pretty bad idea in a smaller game yeah

whole grotto
#

you can be evil MVP but if good wins you still win with them

storm wadi
#

Would probably want to do it with a Godfather -1 either way

whole grotto
#

it's interesting but you're also down a Townsfolk so you definitely need to- yeah at the very least

storm wadi
#

Idk I think there all pretty fun, will consider Godfather is too strong never actually seen it but that makes sense

whole grotto
#

the only reason for the Demon not killing, other than an Ojo missing and ST deciding they don't kill tonight, is that Mesmerist madness was fulfilled and Mesmerist is very loud

and Grandmother is very hard to fake because Godfather doesn't get to choose when they kill and Mesmerist doublekills are very telegraphed

#

a Godfather causing there to be 2 kills, with no claim of Mesmerist madness or Grandmother, also confirms the executee the previous day was an Outsider

storm wadi
#

Yeah I mean Mesmerist is just very loud, you will mostly know regardless of if there is no kill

whole grotto
#

any player who is seen to not wake from night 2 onwards is definitely not the Demon (so Chambermaid is like FT)

#

barring. poisoned Chambermaid ig

storm wadi
#

Wait huh? There are a ton of characters that wake every night?

whole grotto
#

Mesmerist no-kill is also very confirming because it means the madness was fulfilled. yeah, the ST can no-kill even with broken madness but that's kind of mean on the Mesmerist

whole grotto
storm wadi
#

That's pretty normal, isn't it?

#

A demon can also sink a kill to prove thier minions mesmerist bluff, another way no kill could happen

#

But yeah maybe like a fool would be nice

#

Fool Echo might be broken actually

#

Once you are suspected go Fool and than Virgin waste so much time and you got an ability before that, yeah seems too broken

whole grotto
#

same with a real fool

storm wadi
plain frost
#

oh ok I guess I will not look at the script

#

tell me when I can look

storm wadi
#

Look at your own risk

plain frost
storm wadi
#

Oh I thought it was a joke, Don't Look Now is the script's name

plain frost
#

this is serious stuff

#

anyway Sleuth is absolutely broken

#

it is literally just a Cop who cant get the demon

storm wadi
#

It can also be really good for evil, build entire worlds on its own after demon pick

plain frost
#

Daredevil feels like a Tinker but better for the good team.

#

for Omen, something bad is typically only for fableds or sometimes travellers. I wouldn't put it on a TF. Probably make it 1 specific bad thing

#

Echo is kind of meh

#

fine I guess

#

basilisk is way too week and also worded really badly

#

Basilisk - Each night, you learn an in-play character & choose a player: if they are that character, they are poisoned until another player is poisoned this way.

#

actually It does last

#

not terrible but I'd rather be a poisoner in most situations

#

Mesmerist is worded poorly and is one of the weakest demons I have ever seen (No offence)
The whole madness thing is really bad because it outs the demon, it tells a good play an in play character and it might not even be able to kill.

#

Also the [+1 Outsider] kind of just feels tacked on

#

Nightmare is fine I guess

#

yeah I hope that helps @storm wadi

storm wadi
#

It doesn't tell a good player an in play character? It just gives a player not a character

#

The +1 Outsider is vital, three of the Outsiders work amazingly with it and you absolutly can't afford a 0 outsider game

#

I think Basalisk is actually pretty good, both of the things it does are quite mid but it does two things. Learning which players are legit is really valuable when your trying to find a Damsel who is not

#

But yeah its probably a little weaker than poisoner, I think thats fine

storm wadi
plain frost
plain frost
storm wadi
#

That is the point, they don't

#

That is why it actually gets a consistent amount of kills

#

Players have to choose to trust eachother to counter it

#

But if you trust too much than evil will figure out the Damsel

#

So its a balancing act (also the reason for +1 Outsider)
