This is a full homebrew script I've been working on for two months now. It's been play-tested a handful of times and I'll post playtests here from now on.

This script is built around alignment changing, it has some powerful townsfolk, but are they really on your side?

The Storyteller should be careful with their setup and activation of certain abilities, if you decide to grant every 'might' then you can create quite an unfair game for the good team.

It's recommended to run a game with no more than 1 extra evil player if you have a small game.

A playtest from yesterday involved the final three being made up of the evil team and a deluded player. With the deluded player not quite confirming that they weren't really evil.

There were many ways for the deluded to work out their true alignment, for example when the curator died they only announced the evil team was made up of a darkhold and a syphon, not a forecaster.
The Archivist also learnt 'no' every night as no extra evils were being created.

The bookworm made the statement on day 1 that "Pydo is the Smiler and Kowa is the Archivist", This was true and I replied with "There is a darkhold in play".

The cartographer learnt good every night, but didn't submit their information much to help world build, they only said it when being accused by the Task Master-claiming minion came out and said that HipHop was evil.

The Psychologist never picked a single townsfolk, which meant when I used the smiler ability to misregister the demon, it didn't actually do anything because they learnt three unique numbers either way.

The good team played poorly and definitely had the opportunity to win this game. They spent 2 dead votes early on and tunnelled on the wrong person which eventually lost them the game.

The demon was in a sticky situation, they were trusted more than their minion, but they had publicly claimed Arbiter which is a role you would almost always expect to die in the night, so they didnt know whether to jump to their minion or not.

The darkhold used their wish on a day I evaluated that they were losing, so I gave them the ability of seeing the grimoire each night as they wished without any cost.

Overall it was a really nice game, fun and pretty balanced, the evil team outplayed the goodies and won!

Looks interesting! Is the fabled really necessary though?

It's just there to allow for testing, it may end up being replaced by gargoyle being able to possibly add an evil, not sure yet

There might be an extra evil player, if so, a good player starts knowing this. Votes fail if only evil players voted. [+0-1 Evil Player]

So far in playtesting good has won twice and evil has won twice

just because there is a good few opprotunities for lots of evil players doesn't mean there will be lots, am still yet to have a game with more than 1 extra

a lot of the script has the ability to turn players evil, so as an st you will keep this down, sure. But there are 2 sources that are forced, if they are in a game they can make it very unfair...

just knowing based on games were town knows there can be e extra evils are very factionalising and not that fun to play with. As you kinda need to not talk to the evils in that world because you dont have much time and need to convince the good players since there is so little margin for what can happen

(also agree that the fabled adding an evil player feels very rough)

I wouldn't hugely consider the fabled, its optional and just being used in testing

yeah totally valid aswell, I mean critisism from someone who just doesn't like the theme as a whole is valuable as heck

I'll see how more playtesting goes, but i might consider adding a spirit of ivory and removing cultists ability to turn players

Anyways, played about 5 games today here's some general notes.

Played one game with the optional fabled that adds evil, its not necessary. Any setup that doesn't have potential for more evil does not need it.
Cartographer probably needs a reword because its ability was misunderstood
An extra fabled was added which makes votes fail if only evil voted.
Good won two games, evil won three

Yeah my biggest concern reading this is that with 2-3 minions it’s going to be rough with the excess conversion/mobility. It’s a reason that while some redundancy helps to prevent over-reliance on a couple characters, too much can be rough on a script. The Fabled’s an interesting twist, but my general rule of thumb is even Evil = Good - 1 feels rough unless you’re in a Teensy, because it requires Good be unanimous to win (without a clear signal like Vizier and even moreso preventing abstentions).

Honestly as a half joking suggestion, I’d ask Besjbo if you could borrow The Bomb Fabled for this script 😅 as even without a Legion like situation, it accommodates Good paranoia that they might be outnumbered and keeps Evil from ever purely outing to rise up (although a bit more seriously big concern you’d have here is two evils who do not know each other dropping The Bomb thinking they tricked Good and then going awkward when the game continues)

Hag had a 100% pickrate of Forecaster on night 1, so buffing lookout will hopefully change that
