#secret thing

while youd think it would work if the boom happens on f4->f3, the boom still died today
||bro is never waking ever again||
I just realized, this jinx is actually good
i cant think of one, but someone make one for mez/poli
i feel like theres something there, its just not coming to me
/
x
if the kazali picks the [king/damsel], the [cb/huntsman] becomes the [king/damsel]
(specifically with soi in mind)
x
The politician does not turn evil if they say the mez word.
Evil politician problem solved!
sorry, all that's coming to mind is that a Mez-turned poli is contractually obligated to do the funniest thing ever or face a brick drop
its more on the soi thing of a mez blocking a poli turn at the end
is where i was thinking
When the mezepheles word is said, the politician is told this, and loses their ability.
|| oh, not the turning, but the saying ||
Kazali+Poppygrower:If the Kazali picks the Poppygrower, they learn this.
but then poli can't do the funniest thing ever 🥹
|| im sorry, isnt this just pointless ?||
||I'm struggling to get my jinxes phrased just right to force the storyteller to publicly pull people aside and tell them things.||
(and I think most Mez games are more uphill for that Poli)
Not what we're doing, but I'm rewriting
. The pixie, if sufficiently mad about the role they learned, gains the role of the player the "mad" token is on.

If the Princess publicly claims to be the Princess on the Storyteller’s nomination and a majority of players vote for it, the Princess ability affects the Demon tonight.
x
/
x
: If there are an even number of vortoxes in play (?nonzero?) townsfolk may only receive true info
Lord of Typhon+PG:If the poppygrower is in play with a Lord of Typhon, minions are not in a line.
If the Godfather is (or has been) in play, the Heretic is poisoned.
"See TPI? Was it so hard to avoid a hate jinx? Just do what you did for Damsel!"
while a poppygrower is in play, the spy sees the grim with the evil team's tokens removed.
oh that's funny
: The boomdandy explosion must kill the zombuul.
dont forget magician
😢
||Doesn't specify whether or not the Zombuul is already 'dead' or not
||
The Amnesiac is unaffected by the Vortox
as well as the Lleech, or instead of the Lleech?
intended
As well as.
that's slightly less awful, then
What's the problem with OH NO
x
: The pacifist may make players register as evil
this is not subtle
No hold on
it looks so genuine tho
Like someone who knows homebrew but is not cooking
Good players might not die when nominated during the riot.
x
If the gossip killed last night, the gossip wakes to the chambermaid.
i'd play this one drunkenly 1 time
: The faux paw turns evil.
That works if you similarly jinx DA with a “the first time” clause
Wait no
see, the thing about that jinx is I'm very proud bc its obviously bad, but subtly so much worse
No this is an upside it’s just mid
||This is bonkers if the Lycan is the one turned Evil.||

If the Cannibal had the Atheist ability, the Storyteller may not break the game rules.
x
The cerenovus may choose to make a player mad that they are the goblin /s
until you realize it turns everyone evil bc faux paw must be a good player
Yes.
||atheist game speedrun any%||
the vizier may keep their eyes open while voting.
Though personally I will admit I like this jinx. It opens up some interesting play options late into the game.
just use the atheist ability to register as evil to the canni
x
: instead of being mad as, the chosen player becomes the Drunk.
ok, this one isn't subtle, but
/
-- if the Marionette thinks they have the Atheist ability, there might be no Evil characters in play.
self removing marionette 😭😭
all of the marionette/setup jinxes are super stupid to me -- they're just natural consequences of how the marionette works
: Vizier might replace 1 legion in setup.
x
x
: The marioentte might register as good to the goon/ogre
like, you don't need to jinx marionette with the idea of the outsider count either

If there are no Outsiders in play, only 1 player is poisoned.
if the engineer makes a fang gu while no outsiders are in play, the engineer becomes an outsider.
(
/
) x
: the professor ability is a global opg
I don't hate this, actually
maybe I'm missing the kicker
If the zombuul is killed by the assassin, they only die.
|| mechconfirm outsiders are lying ||
||the vigormortis in base 1: 😔 ||
||yeah, but you're now playing for evil >:)||
point taken, though
wait is this not subtly bad
unless its the drunk
youd think itd solve legion volume issues
What exactly is the problem
instead it just removes votefails
Yeah. If every demon is dead.
legion's ability is actually just vizier's
realistically, I don't think this is a great jinx, but I don't think it breaks as hard as it might?
The Spy does not register falsely.
: fearmonger might replace 1 legion in setup.
just like, in general!
Thoughts on this bastard
damn it i cant think of a good enough clock/recluse one
I notice a lot of these are “oops you forgot to qualify it”
Outsider claims are pretty dubious on Fang Gu scripts already, and you're probably not scripting Vig/Fang Gu/Engi...?
Significantly less fine although does literally Jack shit in lower player counts
tbf it‘s making the strongest bmr minion even stronger
…. No the jinx does nothing
i dont think it changes anything coda
oh
: evil twin might replace 1 legion in setup.
oh nerdy got there first
“Only die” is not really a thing
No longer subtle
I'm confused why we are adding minions to legion games
x
: a magician neighboring the nodashii registers as a minion
It’s legal anyway technically tbh
I have played customs where the assassin was bootlegged to take only one life from the Zombuul -- it's, like, fine
I know
bc this one is non subtly bad
but adding vizier to legion has real value
of solving volume issue

If the Cannibal was executed today and was chosen by the Bone Collector, they gain the Bone Collector ability too.
I am going to REVIVE ALL THE TOWN
RAHHHHHHHHHHHHH
: If a philosopher gains the mutant ability & is mad they're a townsfolk, they might be executed.
“I’m the Goblin!”
/
if a drunk player is summoned, a different player becomes drunk instead.
Imo this one has layers to unpack.

Copies of the same Traveller must be in play.
||It does jack shit bc the philo can just, not choose mutant||
3 buearocrats (spelling?) making my vote count as 27
x
: the bishop registers as the fearmonger when nominating
oh the
/
is awful
||pointless||
I think my favorite part of that jinx is the ||literal interpretation||
I thought Philo stopped drunking the player when they changed characters
damn 😔 oh well at least there's still something subtly horrible about the pm one, even if I forgor that thats not something philo needs
x
: the pithag may make in-play characters
: The flowergirl may open their eyes during voting.
I don’t know exactly what the issue is other than “it can be unsolvable”
||I believe, as worded, the instead should be replacing the act of summoning||
Oh I see
at least, I think thats how language works
in terms of implied referents for the raw.
The Wraith may choose to look at the Grimoire.
x
/
/
: the punchee would die even if they otherwise couldn't
i note a lot of these can be solved by “...if K is in play”
: "You have excelled in your lessons, my student"
|| (notice it no longer protects the demon) ||

The Goblin always gets a quest to throw clementines at the Storyteller each night.
||Yeah, I noticed that issue, was working out how to word it||
If the Demon shoots someone with the Slayer ability, that player dies
yooo unlimited slayer shots
: the kazali may choose which most players to become evil legions, but must leave at least 2 non legions.
x
: the bigwig won't kill if the defender is 'mad' the accused should not be executed
If the lleech host is a 'spent role', they gain another use of their ability.
so many of these jinxes are CaU relevant
should be host regs as lleech to snarmer
ok this one is a shitpost but
- the alchemist may gain the recluse ability
Sometimes I feel like the jinxes I'm writing for this aren't subtly bad, just subtly even worse than they seem
best Townsfolk
While the Saint is affected by the Cerenovus, the Saint is poisoned.
: vizier registers as a townsfolk to no dashii.
x
: Someone will be mad at the storyteller
truth nuke
The Marionette registers as a Townsfolk to the No Dashii.
the demon cannot choose the same player multiple times.
wait how are the no dashii ones supposed to be good
x
: the marionette registers as a tf to vortox
The Kazali may choose once during choosing Minions to make a Good Atheist
||I dunno, this one may kinda work, if just on its first choice. Without that though, this has a bad implication||
hide the poison i guess?
or ig the viz?
: Players must close their eyes when someone publicly claim to be the goblin.

If there are multiple Atheists, all Atheists are evil.
x
: the psycho dies if slammed
boss music plays
||An announced vizier deconfirmes their neighbor as nodashii||
The preacher cannot choose players who claimed goblin while nominated yesterday.
Wait but I want to make a script from that
gameplay
x
: good players have to die by execution to count for the levi ability
Mayhaps even worse: ‘the demon may only choose unique good players with the Gambler ability’
a lot of my bad jinxes are subtle wording things that have unintended consequences.
which is maybe not the best bc jinxes are typically assumed to work rai over raw but oh well
needs like snarmer or something to incentivize evils to lie to their demon
Yeah
see oldmayor/levi
Or just Poppy?
Just be a better ST, no?
Also that makes Mario/ND unsolvable
x
: the politician loses
x
/
x
/
. If it is mechanically possible that you have the [zealot/butler] ability, you must vote as though you do.
x
: nodashii may poison outsider neighbors instead of just townsfolk
wait actually just this but
x
/
x
: if the boffin grants the farmer ability, evil players get strawpassed to instead
awful
The Lunatic might register as the Demon to the Flowergirl
"Finally, some more negatives to the Lunatic! But we'll be fair, only a 'might'"
x
the Spy is poisoned while it is holding the Lil Monsta
: Spy will see the grimoire with heretic's token removed.
||Actually, the always version might be worse||
/
- if the Magician is closer to the Demon than any Minions are, the Clockmaker learns the number of steps from the Demon to the Magician.
The Magician registers as a Minion to the clockmaker?
...yeah, I'm awake too late, huh
A dead scarlet woman keeps its ability.
||the best part is that raw this literally does nothing||
If the living Al-Hadikhia has no ability, all players still learn who the Al-Hadikhia chose.
x
the Scarlet Woman maintains their ability when the Vigormortis dies
the gossips ability can only kill players chosen by the al hadikhia
This is hard
||There's technically niche effects? The SW could die first, the Zombuul 'dies' turning the dead SW into the already truly dead Zombuul, which could still affect roles like Fortune Teller, Flowergirl, Dreamer potentially...||
similarly,
the lycanthrope acts after the alhad, and may only pick people they chose.
: If alchemist has the baron ability, they do not add outsiders.
||The true blank token. At least they get a nice hat?||
Blank token simulator goes brrr
an alchemist baron removes two outsiders
is just so much better (worse) tho
Trying to do 1 with wizard
Wizard doesn’t need any jinxes
don't worry, we aren't making needed jinxes here
True though
There is some niche and unique possibilities with Vigor + SW and other roles. Nothing immediately that comes to mind with this jinx, since the jinx technically does nothing as that's how Vig normally works.
Precisely, RAW it’s an ‘oops game over anyway’
: If the godfather removes an outsider, the baron becomes a godfather.
I want to make a script with the jinx, except the SW becomes the alive Vigor that night
is this the Boffin-recluse Vig that can scarpass and continue to register as a minion for poison purposes
And also the Boffin-Alchemist-Scarlet Woman tech with Recluse
ye, though that's Vig-agnostic
If the summoner is poisoned, the storyteller has the summoner ability.
An alchemist with the mezepheles ability has no ability and a mezepheles is in play. Each day, after executions, the alchemist may guess who the mezepheles turned evil. If correct, they turn good that night.
(honestly idek if this is bad, I just don't like this style of jinx).
x
the Recluse may only register as evil to the Oracle on even-numbered nights
The Spy might register as a good Townsfolk to the High Priestess.
/
- the Storyteller may register as either alignment for the Evil Twin ability.
If a typhon causes a good player to become a summoner during setup, the typhon becomes a good, not in play townsfolk.
-# That's already how Spy works?-
The Recluse might register as the Demon to the Sage.
HP learns spy each night becuase they're a good player who just saw the grim
'Might'
The Recluse might register as a Demon to the Sage.
yeah but like, if you're not misregistering the spy at every oppourtunity then they basically have no ability and thats making it a blank token.

The Recluse might register as a Minion to the Sage.
(no jinx)
||This also does nothing, because it does not register as the demon that killed the sage||
? The point is that an ST already could misregister the Spy as a Good Townsfolk to the HP.
The suggested jinx does nothing?
Who is opposing to the st? a spectator?
Oh right
oh no im affirming you.
and also doing a bit
The Storyteller registers as evil to their Evil Twin ability.
But that’s like yours

Players can be mad as the Deviant for the Ventriloquist.
: Slayer can kill the recluse. When they do, the recluse turn evil.
(in every game)
(with no Deviant)
Would you also misregister the Spy/Recluse when determining what the General learns?
x [new players]: The storyteller might let the nominator give an accusation, and might open time for pertinent info to be shared before running the vote.
: If the engineer choose riot, they also choose how many evil players become riot.
I would take into account how much the misregging is affecting town’s ability to solve
I feel like these are getting too silly
: If the lawyer is mad that the nominee is a 'fresh' townsfolk, the lawyer might not die due to the bigwig's ability.
they most certainly are
I like making bad jinxes tho, its cathartic
bc so many jinxes are bad, it gives me a chance to pretend to be tpi
I think that despite it being a homescript interaction I think it would be kinda cool cause I think a slayer trying to shoot a recluse is cringe
Sure, but I don't think it would do anything? The General's information is too global and meta for any meaningful effect, similar to the Mathematician. They don't 'look' at the Grim for their information, they get a piece of data that isn't affected by misregistration.
: Golem does not learn who used the psychopath ability.
How do you... make them... unlearn it?
Players who talk during choices die.
Remove the memory from their brain
With an axe
(Spec)
/ ||mole||: if the Spy is or has been in play, the ||Mole|| is poisoned.
incredible

: Mathematician learns +1000000000000000000000000000.
actually shoutouts Kazali Widow strat
(on a Damsel script, make a Widow and immediately turn them into something else. You still get the requisite number of Minions per the almanac, and the Damsel is poisoned for a free math +1 all game)
math doesn't count the jinx
It does in the games I've played
The Damsel ping doesn't go out as a result of another ability
Boffin/math learning a zero:
Why’d it have to be meeeee
Ig the damsel ping is a constant check, so that makes sense
Though I think it going out after n1 is kinda :/
Alsaahir jinxes! They're all good, right?
,
: The Alsaahir may guess dead demons as minions.
: The Alsaahir may omit one of the LoT's minions in their guess.
: The Alsaahir is not required to guess a dead-from-jumping Fang Gu.
,
: If the Alsaahir guesses a Minion/Demon configuration, then the Lil' Monsta/Summoner ability can no longer be used to create that configuration.
Alsaahir if it was just the names:
Like "Arlene, Lepakon and Shay" instead of "Arlene abd Lepakon as Minions and Shay as Demon"
Except the Atheist can break the rules
This one looks actually cool ?
the flowergirl can open their eyes during voting.
if the judge is evil they wake with the fearmonger and cant force execution on the picked player.
If The Honorable Judge was exiled today, the Cannibal gains their ability tonight instead of the executed player's ability.
if the cult leader sees the Wraith they inmediatly become evil for that night.
Is wraith being allowed to open their eyes during organ grinder voting an established thing or naw
Each night*, the Gossip learns if their ability triggered.
Honorable is a new keyword for Good
Or another option;
Players killed by the Gossip ability learn this.
Executed Honorable players might not die.
The Mathematician can learn that the Tinker ability failed to trigger if they were unable to die

if the courtier has chosen leviathan, evil still wins after day 5
the marionette registers as a good player to the high priestess

the drunk village idiot registers as the drunk to the dreamer

Anyone “mad” about being Jurgen Leitner might be executed, unless it would help them.
wait that doesnt seem right
lets try that again

If the cannibal has the Minstrel ability, they don’t change what ability they have when a Minion is executed, and don’t get poisoned due to that.
Also that's so fucking funny
It almost looks like a normal or reasonable ruiling until you think about it for like, 5 seconds
: The wraith count as waking to the chambermaid if the chambermaid saw them tonight.
Wait, I just realized the ST in an IRL game has no way to tell whether or not a Townie sees the Wraith for certain this is even more cursed than I thought lmfao
: If evil wins due to vortox ability, soldier does not lose.
- As established, how the hell would the ST irl enforce that?
- CL can still turn good by just killing the Wraith, and since they know they were about to turn good, they probably want to.
- The Cult Leader can just cover their eyes to negate this jinx entirely
And my favorite bit
- The 1st time the Cult Leader is waking up they're already evil
It gets so close to looking like it almost maybe does something, but when you look inside it's just the worst ruiling ever I love it lmao
: If the marionette think they're a Tea lady, their neighboring demon(s) cannot die.
The Tea Lady can't protect the Lleech Host
isn't that a real jinx with just "up to" removed
for what purpose
good on a recluse script..?
good in atheist ig?
that's already the current jinx
not quite
I don't see the difference
/
If the Mutant is executed due to their own ability, they do not die.
nice
/
If the Golem nominates a twin, they are executed immediately.
The Mezepheles is in play, and you learn their word instead of them
you'll notice the one in here doesnt actually say this is a part of the summoning
there's also the plural on players
sooooooo
infinite zombuuls
/
The Recluse might register as a Minion to the Xaan ability.
/
The Puzzlemaster doesn't learn false info.
So are we in the jinx just is how it works raw section of the answers?
the cerenovus can not make the mutant mad about being an outsider
if the minstrel’s ability has activated, lil monsta also gets poisoned until dusk
it does look that way on first read
read it again, I think you'll see the vision
Oh... || Nightwatchman? ||
why is that even a jinx its an outsider
Oh even better
||The Puzzlemaster just learns the Demon||
|| always gets the demon ||
||no matter who they guess lmfao||
yeah
if the shugenja’s nearest evil neighbors are equidistant, the grimoire explodes
I see I see
||This is RAW, yeah?||
||'can not' vs 'cannot'||
||what would happen if the cerenovus tries||
Oh nvm I misunderstood
||Illegal choice, so told 'no'||
?
||yep||
are we still doing this?
okay actually
new prompt
2/19: Choose two characters, and jinx them in a way that is unsubtly bad.
ok fair enough ig not
The Demon dies
If the gossip kills the fool, and the fool does not die, the fool learns this.

evil players learn a completely unrelated player as an extra minion/demon
ok we shouldnt jinx homescript interactions
what about bad homescript interactions
The magician neighbors the typhon inside of the typhon line
if the assassin attacks the goon, the goon does not die, and all other players become evil
If the Kazali would make the Soldier one of their Minions, the Soldier becomes a Marionette instead of the chosen Minion.
like, eg. its unfair if pithag randomly makes vortox. Ergo,
If the pithag makes a vortox, all players learn this.
The storyteller cannot get diarrhea
The magician does not go into the bag. During setup, a player in the middle of the line becomes the magician.
If the Politician would change teams and lose due to the Heretic, instead the Heretic changes teams and loses.
the alchemist instead sees the grimoire for the game played after this one
The gambler cannot die unless they were chosen by the al-hadikhia that night.
^ both subtly and unsubtly bad.
the gambler is stormcaught
If the Pit Hag creates a Drunk while the Drunk is in play, the Drunk becomes the character they think they are and then the chosen player becomes the Drunk.
If the demon has the tea lady ability, it instead only applies when both neighbors are evil.
if the vigormortis kills the evil twin, the storyteller stops the game and runs BMR instead
If the Scarlet Woman is dead but has their ability when their ability activates, they are resurrected.
if a new leviathan is created, the leviathan day counter resets back to 1
the shabaloth registers as a townsfolk to the professor
i heard this interaction was pretty bad so i fixed it
If the shabaloth kills itself, the game doesn't end, and the shabaloth is regurgitated the next night before waking to pick kills.
if the Pukka is Exorcised, they become the Big Barnacle
x
If the Po doesn't wake, it counts as choosing no one.
if a jinx happens, this pings math (including this one)
If the Harlot chooses the Virgin, the Virgin loses their ability.
If the artist already knows the answer to their question, they might recieve true info.

the artist learns that there are two guards, one who only tells lies, and one who only tells the truth. the artist does not know which is which. the artist must choose one of them to ask their question to
|| so knights and knaves? ||
I unironically have a bootlegged loric that does this to every townsfolk and I'm planning on pulling it out for my in-person playgroup soon. We'll see how it goes.
the clockmaker and the evil twin cannot be on the same script together
just use the hatejinx formula
a hate jinx isnt enough
: you are not allowed to play quadjank
A vigorkilled alchemist keeps their ability
: A vigorkilled magician learns the demon
a vigorkilled recluse might keep their ability
: an intentional ojokilled magician learns the demon
players who make this joke might die at any time
in game. in game right?
If the ojo chooses heretic, and heretic is not in play, the ojo dies.
people in real life might die at any time
if the demon doesn’t know who to kill, they see the grimoire
If the ojo misses, the lunatic chooses who dies.
If the Mezepheles has not used their ability yet, the Fisherman always learns the mez word as their advice
wait did they change fisherman from “help you win” to “help your team win”
whend that happen
The Yaggababble and Mez must have the same word/phrase

When a dead damsel outs their role, all living townsfolk become the Barber
x
/
/
/
/
/
[etc]: Each night, the alsaahir learns how many minions and how many demons are in play.
The Widow must choose the Damsel if it's in play
/
/
x
The damsel's ability reads "All opposing players know you are in play. If a minion or outsider guesses you (once), your team loses." (hermit for evil damsel by other outsiders)
The Wraith may not open their eyes
Each night, the gossip learns how many times the yagababble phrase was said.
/
The "Haircuts Tonight" reminder tokens do nothing if placed on these characters.
each night, the yaggababble learns how many times the gossip gossip’d
If the gossip correctly gossips how many times the yaggababble said their phrase today, their ability kills the yaggababble
Players chosen by the psychopath are executed.
If the Gossip makes a true gossip that includes the Yaggababble phrase, their ability kills the Yaggababble tonight.
If the politician is executed (ending the game), their alignment swaps before it counts and it actually counts as an evil execution and not a good one
🦀 If the King is asked to leave the room, a Crab becomes the King.
: The yaggabbable phrase must be the full lyrics to a song (pitch/key/rhythm matters)
If an apprentice-choirboy joins midgame, another player must join as the apprentice-king.
🦀 🦀 If someone doesn't understand this jynx, they are asked to leave this plane of existance through peaceful means, if they do not comply, summon a crab to force them to do so.
If a player that is not the wizard makes a wish, the storyteller may pretend to grant and enact the wish.
If the Pit Hag turns themselves into the Politician, the Storyteller may choose to kill the Demon themself
acctually funnier wording
a vigor-killed recluse keeps their ability on death
no way that would be too broken
If the Pit Hag makes a Politician, deaths are arbitrary tonight
the recluse shouldnt keep its ability after dying if killed by the vigor!!!!
No but RAW interaction with hermit/mutant goes hard (it totally doesn’t confirm vigor idk what you’re talking about)
I think it was probably done a few times
eh its fine
wait is that subtly bad or obviously bad
i cant tell where the break is
If the Atheist doestnt neighbor the Demon, all evil players become good, but dont learn this
Eh there have def been obviously bad fake jinxes, I don’t think subtlety is a requirement
there are prompts for both
it was for the prev question
i meant the arepa one ayla replied to
ah oki
Ah
same point tho: just make a bad jinx
I didn’t know there were different questions LOL
this'
(spoilers)
||:machinist:||
||If the Machinist has the Djinn ability, they do not. All jinxes are removed.||
The atheist registers as a demon to the fortune teller
The atheist registers as a demon to the flowergirl
The atheist registers as a minion to the town crier
...
you get the picture
finally... peace
A demon with the atheist ability is good.
: i mean it writes itself
x [bad storytellers]: If, in 3 minion, the marionette results in an illegal setup, the storyteller has to read the almanac.
: Execution survival is parity dependent
how is this subtly bad
execution via firing squad
out of game
(in game)
The Scarlet Woman cannot become the Demon if a Knight is in play.
this one's actually good though
I love BMR but me liking this jinx is not even necessarily borne out of me loving BMR
I hate S&V more than I could ever love any script
/
If the Alchemist turns someone evil, that player becomes the Saint.
If the Alchemist turns themself evil, the Demon turns good.
The first evil player to say the word becomes good instead
: only 1 jinxed character can be in play.
The kazali can choose to turn themselves into the atheist ||Actually thats awesome and should happen. ||
good
It literally doesn’t fix any problem
less mezes in play
and no double mezepheles
objectively a good jinx.
If the Vigormortis kills themself, they keep their ability and poison 1 Townsfolk neighbor.
Cant we do this already
... uh
somethin tells me
that's not a good idea
If you have a Scarlet Woman too, then you now have 2kpn
but yes
Quilava is actively working on a script with this
lol
Sooooooooo I notice SW/Zombuul don't have a jinx to prevent the SW from becoming a Zombuul when the Zombuul fake dies
ye
lets fix this

when the zombuul dies, a good player becomes the zombuul
Yeah because it's a peak interaction to have two active zombuuls
still less than 1kpn average lol

If Legion is in play, the Oracle instead learns how many dead players are good (and doesn't know this).

If Legion is in play, the Chef instead learns how many pairs of good players there are (and doesn't know this).
lowkey
I like this
actually
yeah this is a good change tbh
i'm glad lmao, just put it here because i did not bother to think them through in the slightest
the sole purpose of them is to fix the issue of the number of dead evils/pairs of evils exceeding 5 and becoming impossible to hand signal in person
well binary counting exists
Oh
the added bonus is that legion doesn't feel like shit in oracle/chef games
If Legion is in play, the Chef learns a 1
I thougt we are doing bad jinxes
If Legion is in play, the Chef learns a yes
If Legion is in play, the Chef learns an L
If Legion is in play, the Chef is Legion
If Legion is in play, the Chef learns how many pairs of good players there are.
the real jinx
If the Chef is in-play, Legion learns how many pairs of evil players there are.
The Chef wakes with Legion and might register as evil. Legion knows if a Chef is in play, but not which player it is.
If Legion is in-play, the Chef is evil

The number of Chef-Legion jinxes here actually in effect is equal to the number of Legion in play.
Evil characters don't have to be in a line.
/
/
if there are zero outsiders, the xaan poisons during setup, causing these characters’ setup modification to not happen
How can there be zero outsiders with a huntsman in the bag
the huntsman is xaan poisoned :)
:)))))
Yeah, the xaan overrides the huntsman and says the huntsman setup ability doesn’t do anything
2/20: Ravenswood Bluff is starting up a community Minecraft server. What does each character do?
build lag machines
build traps to kill people by entity cramming with 200 cows

This is exactly what I was referring to.

Kills the ender dragon, then leaves the server
underground secret minecraft bases. they're interconnected.
Gotta add that they do it within 10 minutes of joining the server

also set up a raid farm for totems
makes their base 10000 blocks away from spawn (once they finally find the “right spot”), then wonders why they aren’t having fun anymore
** [2/21]:** name a character pair/triple that you’ve seen people suggest need to be jinxed/have an official jinx, that you think works just fine RAW/jinxless

The official jinx is... okay I guess. I have a script that needs them unjinxed
works fine RAW (
)
CaU somewhat uses it as a weapon by adding Hereric and Hatter, but by itself it might lead to some better script ideas
you just need a reason to not out immediately (
)
Hermit Drunk Lunatic is the sort of interaction that literally generates the entire script for you due to possibility reasons
many jank combinations work fine RAW, you just need a justification for it
context matters most anyway

take as hot as the beer the drunk is drinking
Instead of
just make it clear that o-mod and other setup effects goes in character type order: demon, outsider, TF, minion in the core rules (this also fixes vig at 0 base outsiders with other o-mod)
(I did just realise this messes with the already broken kaz/huntsman and kaz/cb)
yeah but does it really break them more than they already are
it‘s still an ST choice to put the broken cb/huntsman in the bag before kazali might mess with it
True
this so much
al-hadikhia specifies that you may choose three players
it's already built with mastermind functionality, they're removing so much potential strategy by jinxing them
I'd go so far as to say that unjinxed, mastermind is one of al-hadikhia's most compatible minions
and certainly vice versa
yeah the jinx isn’t necessary at all
I disagree with this sentiment pretty strongly. Sure, you can sink, but why would you? Al-had already functions poorly with deathmod, and there's no real scenario where double tapping hurts you more than if the al-had had just killed the night prior. You can't play off something like the Minuit engine as al-had is too loud. Al-had+mm needs the jinx to function.
There's no benefit to sinking because there simply is no inherent risk to double tapping. If the demon could win off you double tapping, they could've won the night before.
All you do is give town one extra day of info, which serves no purpose but sabotaging yourself.
To sum up, it's basically the same as what would happen if you put mm on TB, but worse as that at least has monk and soldier on it.
. Kinda
It doesn't work RAW, but anything is better than this.
Magi legion is fine raw, you just need to wake the legion one at a time
Good travelers + Saint : A good traveller killing a Saint counts as executing them.
I don't like it, Saint should be free to yeet themselves for the Gnome >:/!
No, the issue is legion has no indication there's a magician RAW
This character has selected you : Magician. This are your demons : ....
Yeah, it's a long ass night, but so worth it. If both are on script, always run a long first night
Not how it works RAW. You can't show them the magician token without a jinx. Because, you know, the magician ability doesn't say you do that.
I meant to say that's how I'd want the Jinx to be
Oh. Sorry. Yeah that's exactly what I'd want the jinx to be
I disagree. My justification:
All of Ride the Cyclone
Well they can just be shown the magi token as a new jinx
I'm wondering what it would be like if the al-had/mastermind jinx was that it only does the current jinx if you choose to kill 3 players
(and if you don't, it goes to a normal mastermind day)
2/22: What are your favourite custom scripts that were made as a collaboration between multiple people?
(bonus points if they were made by 3+ people!)
Literally every good custom out there
I mean, even if they don't credit more than a single writer, every script has an element of collaboration in the process of proofing, suggestions, testing, etc.
I'm more talking ones that are credited to multiple people
ones that are like _ by _ and _
I'm partial to Flight of the Bumbling Idiots by Cedric and Utku
ive even run it in longtext
Mainly because I can't think of any others that are credited to multiple people
Hide and Seek is too
So yeah, have a pair of clusterf***s
Making Shitty Livevoice Custom Syndrome was probably the most fun I've ever had in a scriptwriting thread.
am i allowed to say homebrew

2/24 what's your favorite thing that's happened because you started playing clocktower, that wasn't actually playing the game
I met my partner through clocktower which I’d say is pretty awesome
i made a lot of friends. it's pretty cool
Yeah I think the main thing for many people is just meeting people
socialising? in my social game? why, i‘d never!
Met some neat people, learning new argument strategies.
I have friends
fire reacts
maybe i do make that pbp spirit island server with clocktower people
scotland 10 time
ok I know my question for tomorrow
(what is the equivalent spirit/townsfolk ... like philo/starlight)
Minstrel/EEB?
ooh engi/mentor
Met friends, talked about the Suez Canal for forty minutes, no I will not elaborate
being added to the game
I mean
The Honorable Judge
met some people
@junior knot can you be the volunteer to punch people in the solar plexus
is this a reference to something?
but sure, ig
scotland 10
(if the image isn't loading: Scotland 10 (? Difficulty): This 1 Will Hurt: After Invaders add 1 or more
from Ravaging, find a bystander to punch you in the solar plexus.)
maybe you should ask vati
lowkey i want to try scotland 9 at some point
like it's brutally unfair and not at all balanced but i feel like you could beat it
if we are gonna play with botc people can we bootleg 10 into argentian piledrives instead?
Met a bunch of people that are now close friends. Also script writing is super cool and I’d say it isn’t playing the game
I think it's helped me have a more positive relationship with my creative mindset/process
outside of clocktower, I write music, and the process of trying, failing, and iterating on clocktower scripts I think has made me more comfortable with doing things "badly" when I write music
instead of beating myself up/restarting I'm now better at looking at it as a gradual process and finding things worth iterating on/keeping/changing instead
I survived an otherwise hopeless university experience (well technically it's not over yet)
ooh that sounds great
the board game club at my college played spirit island basically every week... until some people introduced BotC and now we do at least one of the two games each week
2/25 How does each evil character do their evil laugh?
sounds like Peter Griffin
sounds like Peter Griffin
sounds like Peter Griffin
sounds like Peter Griffin
😮💨 🤦
sounds like a lot of Peter Griffins
sounds like a really big Peter Griffin
sounds nothing like Lois Griffin
sounds like Peter Griffin with a mustache
See the issue is you've locked yourself into a bit which has nowhere to go
The Honorable Judge
Judge Holden
Holden Deez Nuts
sounds like Stewie Griffin
sounds like Brian
I'm sorry for starting this bit, I do genuinely believe goblin would laugh like that
I'm leaving secret thing.
Don't worry. You didn't start this, @lucid crag did
Eddie Murphy
Would think this whole bit we've been doing is without class, it's disruptive, and shall not stand in their king's court. They will not laugh here in public with all your miscreants. Shameful what you've done here.
||Anyway, in private, Vizier sounds like Peter Griffin||.

Rubber chicken
clown honk
I'd argue you started this
No, you're the one who made a running gag.
Actually you know what, you're right! You WOULD argue I started this. And then lose that argument!
I've already won m8
Technically it's only a running gag once it's happened at least three times.
So it's Bhamber's fault, clearly
Actually let’s all just blame nexus
Really we should be blaming the person who made this server
at that point why not blame steven medway
Blame Margaret Thatcher. It's all her fault.
teehee :)
three wordless chuckles in quick succession with the mouth closed, and nothing more.
overly cheesy "mwah hah hah"
sounds like Peter Griffin
i am very happy to take the blame :D
A michael jackson "hee-hee"
Says "lol" and "lmao" more than they actually laugh
Laughs deeper and more robotically until it explodes
hey lets just blame arthur phillip
** [2/26]: ** What is the equivalent Spirit Island Spirit/Power for BOTC Townsfolk?
(we can follow up with minions/outsiders/townsfolk at later dates)
idk bro I haven't played spirit island
you say that like everyone has seen family guy
Notably, I did not make a question about family guy
I made an answer about it
And everyone latched onto it
I dont know what this even means
So I'm gonna say uh
The number of times the letter e appears in their ability text
@fast anchor @karmic rose btw this question is for you
Can someone else make a question for everyone except those 2 people to enjoy please? /hj
not just for them, its just summoning them bc they are public botc/si enjoyers
and lowkey im p sure weve had like pokemon/marvel questions before too
those are so mainstream
But what’s spirit island
what’s spirit island
A board game
Amnesiac -> Starlight
I do have a question
If you want one
Alt 2/26
Pick a character very carefully
||That character is playing a game of 20 questions: what sort of question do they ask first?||
(idk if it’s a good question but it’s what I thought of)
Lil monsta ||Bweakfast?||

||Uhhhh idk. Animal/vegetable/mineral?!?!?||

||Does it explode?||
-> Entwined Power

-> Cast Down into the Briny Deep

-> Blazing Renewal

-> Impersonate Authority

-> Absolute Stasis

-> Starlight Seeks Its Form
-> Towering Roots of the Jungle
you have the power to fix that
No I don't
I don't have access to it
do you have tabletop sim
no
ah, alas! there's an app implementation that will let you play out the first ~half of a game for free to see if you enjoy it
I prefer to play physical board games in person
It's a cooperative, asymmetric board game that feels much like Into the Breach and has a really fun skill curve
dawg you'll never guess what else I haven't played
Also how can a cooperative game be asymmetric
every player controls a spirit, and every spirit plays differently!
how differently
like they have different decks of cards involving the same core gameplay or what
Pretty much! Each spirit has a unique set of starting cards, a unique set of inbuilt powers, and a few special rules. Throughout the game, all spirits can draft additional powers from communal decks, and the enemy follows the same rules across the entire board
I wouldn't really call that asymmetric fwiw
Like magic the gathering isn't asymmetric because the decks have different colors
But Root is because the fundamental gameplay actions you take are radically different
||Yes sir ||
I think Spirit Island plays about as differently from spirit to spirit as Root does from faction to faction, fwiw
I have never heard of spirit island until now
It's a somewhat more fun first game (ime!) because the cooperative aspect means that a new player doesn't need to wrap their head around the other spirits at the table
And you lose Root by not knowing what your opponent's tokens mean
Big recommend Spirit Island! It's my favorite board game by a wide, wide margin
From the quick read-through of my friend's copy of the Root base game, my initial impression is the Woodland Alliance is overpowered.
Or at least better than the other factions
Well, as a board game enthusiast I'll look into it.
It's a good faction, yeah, though you'll find a lot of folks think the Vagabond is even more powerful
Really? Huh
I mean, it was one glance to be fair
Woodland is still top ~3 factions with all the expansions!
I used to think the same thing until I read the rules that are in fine print
it's fine
I played root once and don’t know why I would ever play it again when Spirit Island exists
vagabond is actually the worst faction bc if you have competent opponents then they will just target you early and refuse to craft, and you will be crippled for the entire game
vagabond heavily relies on politicking your opponents against their optimal strategy in order to do anything at all
So the strategy to beat it is to gang up on it? Sounds like it's really good.
Root does improve on further plays, but I think folks on this server often prefer games with some semblance of cooperation 😆
No, the strategy to beat it is to not ignore it
Bully it a bit early game and it will never snowball to be scary
All you have to do is target it before it becomes scary, not after
Oh absolutely not.
At least for me
Yeah, that's ganging up on it
Vagabond seems good if you act like a lil bean all game until you suddenly win
If they know what's up, they'll commit a small amount of attention to you early on and you'll crumble
sacrificing an early game turn or two to kneecap the Vagabond is nontrivial, and you'd always prefer your opponent do that for you so you can focus on doing other things
but the Vagabond's strength does dip when folks at the table realize it's a threat
That's also the counter strategy to Queen of Hearts in Villainous (which isn't that good of a game but I couldn't think of another example)
any Arcs enjoyers in chat, btw?
I find that root's "ecosystem" declines a lot in quality once you start trying to optimize it
Hot take: Monopoly is good.
elaborate
Monopoly is a good board game and fun to play
I disagree on both of those
incorrect
I've played it many times with my family and it's always a blast. Though that's probably because we're all trying to screw each other over and play like computers
That applies to risk, catan, wingspan,
My stance is that if you like monopoly, there will be many other games you enjoy 5x more
the answers will shock you
notably, all 5 of those games are ones I also dislike
I could keep going
this board game geek review lives rent-free in my head
Monopoly simply takes too much time for what it actually offers
Monopoly, at least in my experience, is very fast
I think one of these (the second one) is true with the right group, but I don't think the game itself is great
You're done in an hour and a half
(but also yeah Wingspan has great components and theming, but the gameplay isn't top-tier)
I disagree strongly
okay but what if instead of rolling dice and pointlessly haggling for an hour and a half, I played an interesting game instead
That's the sign of someone who's not planning ahead.
Just in general
go play spirit island
I used to think that myself. Then I got good
Monopoly has strategy
like sending yourself to jail
and like never leaving
and shaving dice
real mfs play Agricola and Castles of Burgundy
There's a lot of strategy in monopoly around building trust
first of all, ouch
second of all, this is patently untrue if you have ever seen me play a board game with actual complexity and a skill ceiling more than 6 inches above its floor
third of all, you've seen me play clocktower lol
Sorry, that was mean
yeah like never building hotels
That too
monopoly has 2 sentences of strategy and that's literally it
destroy the housing market
That is not true
buy all the houses
if no houses on board: no-one can buy houses(intentional game design)
- buy houses not hotels
- jail is good actually
But oh well, I'm not going to convince you unless you try it
also buy orange, red, yellow, and magenta only
I could tack on 95 more sentences to that
the rest suck ass
Also not true
I've won handily off dark green before
they're statisically the most likely to be landed on due to jail
Oh yes, but others are really good
That's the best row, but it's not the only viable strategy
(you can win off of red/yellow specifically) Green is ok I guess
"boardwalk spammer"
Again, my entire point about why I don't think monopoly is a good game:
Literally any aspect you like about monopoly has been done 10x better in a better game
Orange is actually the best color
But moving on, now that I've opened myself up to the peanut gallery, let's do it again! Pineapple tastes good on pizza
Tbh I don’t get the hate for villainous
this I agree with
It's slow and not very deep.
Like it’s been fine the several times I’ve played with
It's not bad, but it's not very replayable
pineapple gives me a rash so
like yeah
Oh, sorry to heard that.
I don't like the knowledge of rash on my pizza
but does it taste good
its about the taste, not the symptoms 😉
pineapple is mid
so like
not worth
Also, can we talk about Risk?
Risk is a bad game
Tough game, but really fun
Isn’t risk just a luck game?
yes
You're my goat
Otherwise we wouldn't see my aunt dominating us every time we play
The only valid pizza is pineapple + jalapeño
You know what fruit tastes good on pizza? Cooked banana
Risk online is actually better
"only" is insane
She could just be luckier than you
Risk is a game, if you are in the know, about playing defensively until you amass enough resources to conquer the entire board in one turn
Since it inherently gives an advantage to the defender, there is no reason to attack unless you plan to completely overwhelm your opponents
The only fruit that works with pizza is tomato
We've played like 50 times
I kid you not I played risk once
She's won almost all of them
Thus, risk is a game about taking goddamn forever to finish
and we stalemated
for 5 hours
and did not attack
for 5 hours
Risk online is actually fun
How’s online different
Risk is a game about guarding your flank if anything
Is that it?
Online has a secondary rolling system
that is very meta-able on troop losses
(and there's no possibility of 30 guys losing to.... 3)
But where’s the Sparta in that?
I mean, this is pretty much true of normal risk as well
Risk is my top 1 all time least favorite game
yes but
it's possible
You need to be obscenely unlucky for that to happen
which is quite stupid
other comparison includes "5 vs 3"
Not a good idea.
Especially when you can’t like train skill or nothing
5 loss
Like ever
OK what do we think of deck builders?
I love deckbuilders
hate em
Depends.
Haven't really played em too much.
I remember when I was really little I played Pokemon cards. None of us knew the official rules
It was mostly a collectibles thing
that's not a deckbuilder, that's aTCG
Trinity of man
Dominion vs yugioh
where your deck evolves over the course of the game
Oh then yes!
I hate roguelikes
CLANK! is an archetypal example of a deckbuilder board game
and one I enjoy quite a lot
Are there roguelike board game?
I've never played a board game variant
StS board game is also iconic
There's an StS board game
And actually I think there's also a Darkest Dungeon one.
Though the rest idk.
this term kinda doesn't make sense bc of the medium
Almost all board games involve randomization and resetting after you're done, to the point where not doing so is considered unique
Most board games are technically roguelikes
I was trying to get into dcss/nethack type rogues but just sucked so bad I moved on lol
and thus it doesn't make sense to discuss them as such
By unique you mean stuff like gloomhaven?
I didnt think I would like roguelikes I didn’t even know what roguelikes were until I played this one particular one that’s not at ALL representative of most roguelikes
yeah, or pandemic legacy
pandemic legacy 2 is a goated game btw
Pandemic, brilliant game
highly recommend if you want something cooperative for ongoing game night plans
Though I've played it less since well, you know...
So I looked up Monopoly's turn one advantage, it's not that high
Pandemic Inc carried me through middle school classes ngl
Pandemic I don't like as much, which is why I was more lukewarm about pandemic legacy
However PL2 completely overhauls the gameplay to better fit the legacy game formula, and it is amazing
At least, not high enough that the more skilled player doesn't win on average.
It's post-apocalyptic, and a big part of progression in that game is literally drawing your own connections between cities
As you reconnect the world or whatever
So you have so much control over how the map turns out
I hate legacy games
Which is super fun
damn that sucks
While we're on this topic, what do people think about Carcassome?
I'm thinking about getting it
Surprisingly solid. I've gotten many hours of enjoyment playing it
I'm not much of a board gamer
The main thing I worry about is it being basically budget Catan
unfortunately
It’s pretty different
Considering that I dislike many similar games like catan, my stamp of approval on carcassone is pretty notable
Although I personally prefer the hand variant rather than raw pure draw
If you want a chill game with very low bar of entry but still a respectable amount of skill and planning involved, carcassone is a good pickup
Clocktower ain't a chill game once I get through with it buddy
Anyway, I'm just going to wrap up my Monopoly rant since I've had so much fun with it with my family. Monopoly has an element of luck, but it's not that big. I estimate luck is about 5% of what contributes to the outcome of a game. Monopoly is really about restricting your opponents' options. This is why the best properties on the board are not the oranges and reds like most people say. The best properties on the board are the railroads. This is also why the four house strategy works so well, since you restrict your opponents' ability to buy you out. A good understanding of how the balance between cash and property value works is crucial to winning. Ultimately, Monopoly is not my favorite game, and better games have definitely been made, but it's brutally hard and a fun game every time in my experience.
Also @fiery sleet I'm sorry about being mean. I really shouldn't have said that.
From a game design perspective, the fundamental issue with Monopoly that makes it take multiple hours, is the fact that the game end condition is opposite to what the players want
Since the game ends when a player (or sometimes all but one player) go bankrupt, but the goal of the game is to avoid going bankrupt, all the players are incentivised to do everything they can to keep the game going for as long as possible
This is why reverse monopoly sort of games where the goal is to lose all your money work better, since everyone is working to get closer to the end of the game rather than further away from it
-> Roiling Bog And Snagging Thorn

this one's tough
Not really. The way to lose money is to land on your opponents' properties. The way to stop your opponents from losing money is to buy nothing.
Therefore, you get caught in an endless loop of going around a board, unable to progress because of the $200 bonus for circling the board in your pocket.
Ok actually now that I think about it, the actual strategy is to buy everything and immediately mortgage it
Which isn't much better. If normal Monopoly is more luck based than most games, this one actually is just luck.
And to boot, it takes longer than regular Monopoly.
Oh wait you mean games in general. This I am actually inclined to agree with you in some cases
But interestingly enough, games where this isn't the case, if designed well with people moving fast, actually end pretty quickly.
And also this isn't the case for Monopoly. The goal is to bankrupt your opponent, since if you do you get all their property. Therefore you're incentivized to buy a lot and knock out a competitor as quickly as possible.
Apology accepted
whenever I've played villainous (as someone who's not experienced) it has just been sitting there doing stuff until someone (not me) randomly declares they've won
from my pov
Sounds like a kid playing at the park when slaughtering his victims. Something a bit similar to Lily Lovebraids (to whoever gets the reference)
