Just one Leg
Ignore it. People have been ignoring the Legion ban
Oh and sorry about the ping
(it's fine)
If ET is truly banned then put me down as witch
They did that in Salem
In my defense I'm Jared 19

I took the list of banned characters from a text game, where Evil Twin does not work well
Why does et not work in text
Et was fine in text when I played it? I really don’t see why text would ban it??
the social drain of being the good twin is fine for small doses of live games like 1-2 hours, but much worse when the game lasts 1-2 weeks
yeah, being the good twin can be rough if you didn't sign up for a twin script
Btw I've been meaning to ask how you long text players handle the stress.
I've just finished my first long text game, that was one of the most stressful weeks of my life.
you don't
- If you're not actively participating in the game at that moment, don't dwell on it, it creates unnecessary hassle.
- Be OK with losing or things going wrong, it just means the opposing team is playing well, you can celebrate together after the game.
- Despite these tips, stress will still come, take a short break to gather your thoughts then once you've done all you can, acknowledge that it's out of your control now.
Thanks! Now that I think about it, the fact that I was the demon might have made it a bit more stressful.
If the ST asks if everything’s okay or if you want a sub, genuinely consider the question.
My ST took ages and 12p TB lasted like 2 weeks or more
That certainly would be a heightening factor
I've been the demon in the only longtext game I've played on this server, and it was definitely an experience lol
I was the spy
New player curse. To be expected tbh.
Slightly heightened by the fact that I genuinely believed I was the lunatic for 3 in game days
Oh same!
For me it was only the first two tho
Actually just day 2
Partially because I had a marionette, my other minion was extremely suspicious and was a longtext veteran, and also there was a puzzledrunk magician. Additionally, there were two people in that game who had "Alex" in their name, so I thought the person I saw as my Lunatic was claiming Gossip and was the only explanation for multiple deaths
Mine was me just being paranoid about being strung along by my neighbor.
That can happen even without a slow ST, imagine a scenario where you have a 24 hour day, and nominations only end up coming in at the very end, then it takes another 24 hours for the last player to vote on them, then that night takes another 24 hours for everyone to check in
That’s a 3-day timeframe for 1 day cycle, now imagine if that happens each day throughout the game, that could easily reach 2.5 weeks
Did you win?
Yeah we executed the Goblin
Nice.
Oh yeah also one of my friends who was in that game was the savant but was claiming amnesiac which I got as a bluff
Yeah
Also I found out long text has a Po addiction
I also FOOLISHLY signed up for long text with someone I interacted with daily irl
Thank GOODNESS we were both evil
Otherwise the paranoia might have killed me
Probably would've killed them too
Yeah
I fortunately have never played text with anyone I've met in person, but the one text game I'm talking about was when me and 5 of my friends from another community decided to invade a longtext game because we thought it would be fun
Does someone who’s responded want to be a traveler?

I have too many respondents to add everyone as a non traveler
Posting the characters you could be publicly is fucked up
I've played a fair amount of text with people I know irl
It's... not as bad as you'd think
Me too
Either
Lemme be the Cacklejack
Can I be Gnome?
This is whalebuffet...
Cracklejack is banned for the same reason Pit Hag is banned...
Well
With Cacklejack the ST can choose
So I don't see why it would break the game like ph
Exactly
All outsider all the time
3 outsider abilities of my choice, they learn which
Either the game explodes, or that yeah
Unless they’re drunk or lunatic, yes
Does everyone know the potential hermit abilities?
So, any random player might be a drunk with the saint ability
Nope, if they're the drunk they're just the drunk
I'm not that mean]
Anything that can be picked
But I do still need 1 more traveler because neither of you submitted before and I have 16 non-traveler submissions
Rack me in as the Beggar 🫡
they still do work in whalebuffet draft because your character type isn't predetermined and you submit roles for every eventuality
Also I was unsure whether or not to ban Summoner
Somebody needs to run Kaz in regular whalebucket
my picks for whalebuffets are:
TF: VI
Outsider: Zealot
Minion: Spy
Demon: Shabaloth
I love being the chef with a 0 :D
It's a 1
Waffles is mutant
I pick the gnome
I travel out
my bad proxi
Glad this game isn't real though, I'd hate to have to play a lleech game
Hell yeah I’m the psychopath!
We are almost definitely losing but it’ll be fun lol
That lleech host is dying from so many things lol
Well first of all, the lleech host traveled out
Who
Hi
Can the leech host a traveller
sure but i don’t advise it
travellers travelling out doesn't count as them dying, right?
so in that case the lleech is immortal
(I pretended I was evil)
I will take it
Eyyy I'm confirmed
shugenja placement of all time
You're pointing at the traveler
I also make you mad that Chickoo is evil
But what if I stole the confirmation from you, wouldn't be the first time I got washerwoman confirmed as not the ww target in a bucket game :3
Nice, I'm gooning it. Hope I turn evil
I'd like to double the Lleech N2 onwards so it looks line a shab game thanks
I love a barista doubled demon in a lycan game :D
Barista double n1 for two hosts.
Thank you for the react that was good
Vatinovus let's fucking go
who are you making mad
20?
I didn't get enough submissions for 20 - unless you'd like to travel in
yeah!
of course vati is the cere
@fallow rapids

what
could you rack me in as the doomsayer
Yeah Besjbo and I broke a language... more than that though (and for this I am annoyed at the ST for...) no translator tool was provided when I was forced to speak a language I did not know and had not solved the Amne consequence yet (it was break and be executed but for all I knew it was Damsel guess or something), I was told tough luck and be quiet or find a way around, which just made me stubborn. Besjbo found the translator, but this was earlllllyy days GPT and it was clearly a tiny model of biblical sources... so we started sounding very biblical and the model became notably more colloquial during the day 💀
Besjbo found the tool and was my neighbor who spend an unlimited neighbor whisper to play translator all day, was before we were close and actually an incredibly sweet moment I didn't forget 😊
uh
why the fire react
9/18: What's the best amount of Village Idiots to put in the bag and why?
0
and why
0 because you should give it as a bluff
1 because this time evil will bluff it and sell the sober one as the drunk. Evil will bluff VI this time I swear. The minion will bluff VI this time I can feel it in my bones
wait do minions not bluff VI??? I love bluffing VI
09/18/25
changing Whalebuffet topic..
You are given a chance to change a character's wording to your liking..what would you give it's new definition/ability text?
I honestly don't know if this counts as a HB lmao
There is actively a question right now, please check first
mods can we get an Official Secret Thing Queue
ignore the fact that it makes this Public Thing
Honestly just 2️⃣ is enough.
A drunk VI and a sober VI
You can mix it up and add in a
to the mix
And now they'll be concerned if there info is true
(tho, only do this if the demon you have is lacking misinfo)
(or you think it's a best play, not saying you SHOULD puzzle drunk the sober VI)
But yeah,
ly speaking 2️⃣ is enough.
-# pun intended.
- Emphatically not
- I'm in early planning stages of "write a secret-thing pin" which would if it happens include guidelines for checking that you're not doubleposting
- If you notice people in the discussion channels repeatedly overstepping the boundaries of others or otherwise disregarding matters of widespread concern, please make a ticket
4 tokens because a drunk and a guaranteed marionette are always fun to interact with /s
Noooo my dream
This sounds cool.
I think a queue might help. It also might help if people who asked a question avoid asking one for like 2-3 days to give other people a shot. I know there’s some days I have a banger thought and I can’t post it bc a) American time zone, b) someone’s actively like hunting this.
I do think pinging QOTD helps 😭
I don’t know. I kinda dislike VI, but I don’t, maybe 2? 3 is kinda what everyone runs and I don’t think it’s super fun
i don’t typically see a lot of 3s?
Oh interesting
I mean when I see VI, it’s often off server and it’s often 2-3, mainly 3
Haven’t seen VI in server a lot
But iirc text loves VI?
Yeah, (2) Village idiots is enough.
VI but they're drunk, hermit drunk, marionette
3 is good
everyone's first Village Idiot bag is "hey check this out! 3 VIs and a Pixie VI and an Evil Twin VI and a Washerwoman sees the Spy as a VI and the Cerenovus is making someone mad as VI and..."
The best number of VIs is 1. a VI script must be able to handle a solo VI choosing the demon N1, so don't be a coward
There will be distrust of the VIs
i dislike 2 because solving which one's drunk can be a bit awkward
But it can work
Thats the point!
VI's dont get literally the best information in the game for free
That's an exaggeration
I never said they should get it for free
3 doesn't give it to them for free
Spycluse time!
But 2 is [+Drunk]
VI works such that (if your storyteller is competent wrt not making VIs the Drunk) if evil frequently bluffs VI, a VI can mostly trust their own info but other VI claims have info not worth building around
In some bags 2 can work. Being careful with [+the Drunk] is important though
Because you are replacing a Townsfolk in that bag with something less than a Townsfolk
(uness
, but don't)
or be real careful
If you build yourself as a drunk VI, then your role is "You know that the other VI claim is real." It's less damaging than Drunk
It is less damaging than the drunk.
Except it 'confirms' another player when they could be bluffing and you are droisoned for other reasons
so in some cases its worse
or at least compounding
If both VI claims check someone, they get the same answer (confirming the result) or different answers (the player who was checked learns which VI got correct info)
My full view is that:
Village Idiots add someone who gets damaging info for the town with 2+.
Village Idiots also give evil an effective bluff.
Building yourself as a drunk Village Idiot is often not as simple as this because you're sorting through the other Village Idiot claims, some of which are good, others of which are evil. It takes a lot of mental load! Even if the character's info is simple, the puzzle it creates can be difficult to work through. This puzzle is more difficult than several other characters.
This assumes that those Village Idiots are truthful.
Also everyone you check will say they're good!
Bluffing Village Idiot is unusually potent for evil.
TBH, a lot of droisoning roles don't mix well with VI, just because "Two droisoned VIs" is so damaging.
What types do mix well?
?
?
+
?? Idk
Amy's point more is
If two Village Idiots pick you, and one says you're good, and the other says you're evil
I was responding to your second paragraph autumn
fair, I forgor the case where both VI claims are evil
lemme look
that you still have to solve whether someone is good or not
yup
I did mentio that
In response to Amy
The joy of delayed communication
Village Idiot is weird when I script with it]
This is the problem I run into
It's always fun when the Vizier adamantly claims villlage idiot
(theyr'e cerelocked)
I think things like Vigormortis, Pukka, Xaan, and Lleech can work
Vigor poison isnt real
At that point I'd break on the off chance to waste executions
Poisoner Village Idiot I hold is just bad
I want Village Idiot to be paired with a bunch of good characters that cause misinformation
Fortune Teller, Lycanthrope, things like that.
VI/mutant is very funny
But the scripts I make from that don't really bare fruit
it is
If the law exists but every is breaking it and nobody is enforcing it, is it really an effective law?
don't let big dashii convince you otherwise
VI + 3. Philo VI, Pixie VI, Drunk VI, Mutant VI, Damsel VI, ET VI, Mario VI, Cere->VI, Harpy->VI (Lot/LM Game)
Nobody ever builds Vigor poison
Add a Philo-VI
And a Canni-VI
And an Alc+Boffin giving the recluse the VI ability.
Wait actually it can't do that if 3 VIs are in play
And then of course you have your Bird VIs trying to bait a kill
Huge fan of the definition of Legion as a droisoning role
alignment chart for "droison" includes madness misinfo as chaotic good and Legion as chaotic neutral
what would be chaotic evil
Good players lying for no reason
(for 'chaos' purposes)
lawful evil is probably atheist
Lawful evil is Alch OG
Neutral evil is bluffing the Courtier/Ojo into missing
2 is the default number, other numbers exist for the bluffspace
It's most volatile at 2 which is a good thing because it's literally a cop
even if you can’t solve for sure which of the two is drunk, they still narrow worlds pretty well
3
The more village idiots the better
Don't @ Me
@tardy wyvern
Blows you up
Based on your setup text shouldn't it be 4?
What the— HELP
I love the fact this has the connotation that Dell is a Village Idiot
is there a question for today? i have something in mind but am unsure if i have to wait
I don't believe so
kay
9/19: What are the most forgettable characters of each character type, in your opinion? (As in the ones you forget about entirely, rather than just the dislikeable ones.)
I’d answer but I forgot what I was going to say

[N/A][N/A][N/A]
i tried to find my most forgettable characters by writing all the characters out
i only forgot sage
sorry sage

I mean I went through the list and chose the ones I routinely forget exist
And that's coming from someone who wrote a Solo-Shab script!
Really? Boomdandy and Lleech?
no i think Lleech is so bad at being a character it ends up being memorably bad
i strongly disagree with boomdandy
Actually, strike Lleech from the record. I agree with lleech
But Boomdandy is weird.
i agree with snitch personally
I like Boomdandy but it feels like just another Goblin
And people use (and misuse) Goblin far more
Lleech isn't bad, it's just doing an unusual enough thing to warp play patterns significantly while appearing on many more scripts than usual for such roles
I can't really think of a notable Boomdandy script other than Ride the Cyclone, which has only barely breached containment
(and Night-Vision Goggles but that doesn't count)
Extension Cord?!?!
i see Boomdandy and Goblin as two different approaches to the Jester role archetype that social deduction games seem to be obsessed with
If heretic was on 20% of scripts and was in play like half the time on all of them everyone would have vitriol for it
gotta mention TPOT
You've betrayed Jarhed
Deeply inside containment
it's been on the TPI stream
It's on the TPI YouTube channel
So have all kinds of things
Fair enough
It is?
snitch is probably the most forgettable outsider but in a vacuum i think butler would be if it wasn't on TB
I tend to think highranking wc1 scripts are inherently broadly known but I also learnt everything I know about customs from Axo who is not a helpful benchmark on this matter
I was going to put Zealot as my most forgettable before remembering people do strange things with it on TB
I only know Dusk in the House and Boozling
Eh people play zealot variants way less than ogre variants
Roundabout game 3 soon
Yeah but when Zealot dropped we got 5 versions of Molotovs Throwing that got developed independently of each other
i think knight is a good contender for forgettable townsfolk. whenever i look at what YSKs i can throw on a script, it's always the last one i think of
And then nobody has touched them since!
It's definitely up there with Steward as being very generic
steward is generic but versatile
It's the Star Wars Holiday Special of BOTC scripts.
That always happens and in the long term people don't play Pies Burning much as far as pieslikes go
Hystrex is typing...
knight is generic but like with demon mobility scripts it can end up kinda sucking due to ST choices
show the knight the goblin :)
I'd have put Zealot down, but it's my least favorite character so I don't forget about it.
Zealot as a least favourite character is respectable
idk why TPI needs a character that takes away most player agency as an outsider
i can name most minions and give a reason why they're interesting i guess
Do it to the tune of "Modern Major General"
i am the very model of a modern clocktow'r scriptbuilder
i've information on the base 3, customs, good and off-kilter
i know the World Cup customs and can name the matches, all of them
from boo-zah-ling to cold outside both still-beloved and now-condemned
This is amazing. Now I want to try it myself.
this might make sense if a player's agency was solely limited to how they vote
yippee
I am the very model of a modern major General;
I've information good, evil, and sometimes rarely nuetral;
I know which team is winning on a scale of one to five oh yes,
And plotted on a line graph at the visual learner's grand behest.
Axo's is better.
i lurk in #custom-script-discussion till i get into a fight
i facepalm every-now-and-then from scripts that should have SOI
the balancing of all my scripts is the primary goal...
but i'll just throw in Vortox so my group can truly be controlled
🎶
🎶
she just throws in vortox so her group can truly be controlled
she just throws in vortox so her group can truly be controlled
she just throws in vortox so her group can truly be control-controlledddd
I snap at all the amateurs who ignore basic principles;
And criticize new scriptwriters who don't know certain tricks to pull;
And never are my suggestions very easy to understand;
(Yes understand...)
And even then I see myself among the best scriptwriters in the land!
and never are his suggestions very easy to understand
but even then he sees himself among the best in all the land
all right, wrap it up, crew
this is fantastic
damn this is exactly the type of exercise i would usually love but i can’t think of anything right now 😔

experimentals all because i can name every b3 character from memory (slowly)
okay the modern major general bars are amazing
Like many others my first script was modified trouble brewing;
At that point I still had no idea what the hell I was doing;
I now know good interactions as well as many scripting sins;
From solo gossip deathmod to pithag plus scarlet woman;
I have built many custom scripts yet im still inexperienced;
I have not played enough games to have accounted for the variance;
I've storytold and played in games, the chaos you would not believe;
Good players lied for no reason, as uncommon for SDGs;
For my scripting knowledge, though I'm elaborate and clear;
Has only been brought down to about this time last year;
But still in matters demon, townsfolk, minion or outsider;
I am the very model of a modern clocktow'r scriptbuilder.
In short in matter demon, townsfolk, mini-ion or outsider;
He is the very model of a modern clocktow'r scriptbuilder.

Oh right, travelers and fabled
The whole type
also pirates of penzance mentioned 🗣️🗣️🗣️
Tom Lehrer relevant 🗣️ 🗣️ 🗣️

In addition to my earlier decisions
*fabled buddhist
I did a sporcle quiz
It was missing the carousel 5
But out of the 168 characters in the quiz, I remembered 163 in the 20 minute timer
I forgot Fisherman, Gardener, Nighwatchman, Plague Doctor, Revolutionary
If that’s not a definite proof of which characters I forget most then idk what is
Well fwiw I don’t really forget about fisherman or plague doctor the way I forget about gardener
But like it’s fine
strangely enough i think professor was my last one i remembered
I think I'd go through all the base scripts first
where can i find quiz
there are a couple on sporcle
I had a list in mind but i forgot
honestly every minion is rememberable i got nothing for this one
riot is forgettable because nobody runs it
do people just not play S&V
Thats bmr
Riot's on bmr?
Yeah its on bmr with lleech
ohhhh NOOOOOOO
can i reserve the next question?
sure thing!
wrote it down this time because every time i have an idea for this or CIT i forget it before i get the chance to post it 🙈
I found it's really more that the other SnV outsiders are just much flashier. Barber is really cool, Klutz is really cool, and Mutant is iconic. Sweetheart is kinda just overshadowed.
a lot of scripts that want ST-placed droison want it in the form of a Drunk or Puzzlemaster as well so that YSK roles can be affected
yeah i've been struggling with writing scripts with reasonable misinfo for n1 😭
yeah Sweetheart is great on S&V where a Drunk or Puzzlemaster would just be way too rough on good with all the other misinfo
Same. I kinda just go ‘eh, slap
on that and it’s totally fine frfr’
doesnt work great with science
Tbf you can already ask it now?
i guess? it’s not midnight for me yet and there are still people replying to the previous one so i’m happy to wait
Timezones 💀
9/20 what do you think tomorrow's question will be? /s
We've done a lot of questions already, duplicates aren't prohibited
But like in the past month?
technically it was over a month ago
9/20 whats your favorite balatro hand
Flush house prob
I like a nice simple flush
High card. Its just such a versatile build, you're practically guarenteed to pull Photochad, or FT, or something that synergizes really well.
9/20 what's your favorite StS character?
I'm gonna pretend to know what sts is and say joker
4oak is pretty good for balatro hands
Is there a joker in it
(Also the harder one)
No
Aww
I love John Spire from Slay the spire
Based answer
If I could play 4s I'd usually rather play 5s
Silent because I don't suck with her
Silent is the only one I haven't beaten the heart with
Oh lol
I keep getting to the heart, she's my highest ascencion, she dies there every time
I've beaten the heart with everyone but idk if I've beaten even a1 with everyone
4s are actually meaningfully easier to reliably play at higher stakes ime, and you can start scaling them earlier
Defect is def my fav, but as expected I’ve had by far the most success with Watcher
Defect is mine too. Got me my first heart kill with a truly insane Creative AI+Mummy Hand combo. One of my favorite runs of all time
Just pull an erratic deck with seven 9s and eight 5s and play 5oak as your first hand
Surely this is consistent and not just something I happened to do today
It’s inconsistent bc it would require me to play erratic deck
ok i’m here
[9/20] what character do you want to see people put on scripts (or in the bag) more and why?
it can be because you think it’s underrated, you love it and just want to see it more, anything!
it’s entirely possible this has been asked before

I think king+CB and acrobat (separately) are really cool characters that rarely appear on scripts (understandably, king+CB is so hard to make a satisfying evil suite around without nullifying it completely)
but also people should just put soldier in the bag more until morale improves and people learn to like it
Acrobat (and golem but that’s obvious)
Acrobat is a sick character
I'd like to see evil twin on more custom scripts, I think it would be interesting with a bunch of other good characters as twins
i wanna see more shab
I think courtier works on specific scripts when there are good reasons to use it on characters that aren’t just demons
Such as very damaging outsiders or minions
?
, and as of watching the newest Grin Scenarios podcast episode,
i love general!!!! i need to listen to that episode
straight 💸 🖨️
wrong server for that lol
, you basically play an heretic script or you won’t play a script featuring heretic (+ if the script was decided by the ST, it will be in play)

Sure its a better butler but it has so much potential and it can be BRUTAL if were talking about it in Legion games(tho im sure theres a jinx for it)
There is a jinx for zealot/riot. The zealot might register as evil to the legion’s ability (ie, won’t count as a good vote for the cancellation)
riot
there's an axowriteup on it >:)
Sad I haven’t ran it in person just yet but soon hopefully!
one thing i learned from this other than "conjectures of a conspiracy theorist is a good, well-designed script! :D" is that the Riot transformation occurs during the day when nominations open, instead of the night before, so i will definitely keep that in mind
It can happen at night or in the day according to Steven
hm, alright
i assume it can happen at any point during the day as well?
(also assuming the Riot change has to happen after everyone else at night used their abilities so that they aren't seen as Riot by good characters and can still use their abilities?)
Yeah. Riot change time is not defined (night or day are both valid options) and essentially is up to ST.
if you want more, you can browse the tag or just look at the masterpost, btw :3
i'm glad you got something out of it!

btw, is Advanced the middleground between Intermediate and Expert here?
You could give a sober savant something like 'one of your neighbors is a minion or one of your neighbors is a minion'
i think if i become a storyteller for a riot script (which won't be for a while lmao) i'll just make the Riot change happen exactly when the first D3 nomination happens, and inform the players that that's how i'll run it
no matter when you make the riot change, do you have to tell the minions that the became the riot at night or can you just.,., not do that (only relevant when it comes to marionette shenanigans pretty sure, but i still wonder)
The how to run says you still tell them even if they change later
okie thanks, i forgor
[9/21]: Story Time: What's the worst mistake that has directly impacted you as a player in a game that you have experienced?
(of clocktower of course)
Once an st I played with read vortox as a might in a game of snv where I was a good twin … i think I was hard confirmed evil by the end of it
in a semi-recent teensy game (charmed, truly), my ST thought “minion” was an immutable property of anyone who pulled a minion token from the bag and not just the character type, so when the demon barberswapped the poisoner and the dead barber and then starpassed, she turned the evil barber into the imp instead of ending the game
additionally, this was both of those players’ first experience with the barber so the night took a shockingly long time as the st had to write out an explanation for what had happened and that they were still their starting alignment
this impacted me as a player because i was the snake charmer and managed to tie the vote in final 3, really exited about getting the opportunity to pick the only other demon candidate and win as evil (the third player was the starting poisoner who accidentally outed that they’d been barberswapped) (but not the starpass) and i was so heartbroken to not get the bucket list item
this made me laugh more than is reasonable
TB. Some players said they don't like Butler, so the Storyteller promised there wouldn't be a Butler this game. This was in base 2 outsiders
Convinced me even harder that I should just always ST
I asked my neighbor if I was his marionette. I didn’t believe him.
Town got to hear all about it at noms
Not as a player but as a ST
Courtier has drunk the Shab but I have complety forgot about it so thus I killed two people and revived someone with the Shab, leading to a f3 solve
I guess another mistake I had was
#slay-the-damsel
trust the Marionette Savant.
Getting framed by the ST cause of mechanically broken situations is not a fun experience when you’re trying to let new STs run games for the group you’re in.
Happened specifically to me 5 times so far. I’ve been trying to give them levity, but it’s really hard to have fun in those situations
Bungling a TB game really hard. Convinced me to never ST again. No I will not tell you the details.
But what if we guess the details
Did you, perhaps, say there wouldn't be a butler in a base 2 game
fwiw messing up isn't the end of the world; I think a lot of folks in this thread have done some pretty dumb things before
<- has recently been forgetting to wake the remaining good player going into f3
No
It's so embarrassing that I don't want to talk about it.
Al-had game, al-hadikhia picked (in order) the very public damsel, the professor about to resurrect me (fisherman) and the huntsman. Damsel picked live
All I can say is it involves Hells Librarian.
And how I discovered I was not social enough to be an ST
(All 3 died)
Two questions, why did the Al-Had pick the outed Damsel and why did the Damsel pick live?
The damsel wasn't public, but the damsel outed to multiple of the whispers
I still don't know why live tho
Probably wanted to get huntsman turned
i don't really know because i'm the main ST
every time someone else has been STing and wasn't confident enough i was a co-ST
ig mechanically i should say the fucked up savant info
.
Oh, I have an answer here! The BH-turned empath did not understand the hand signal for "you are evil" and ratted out the Demon immediately
actually this same guy ^ did recluse-SC nonsense on me specifically one time so i became a good Baron and the Recluse became a drunk SC
that's definitely the worst but it also was really funny for "-1 Outsider"
I was killed by the Slayer in Trouble Brewing, and the Storyteller didn't realize the Scarlet Woman should have kept the game going
Rough
Did the same in a Whalebuffet with Evil Twins 😆 demon executed and i ended the game
Didnt help that the Evil Twins weren't being vocal about it lol
One recent one was I monk on the ones you least suspect. Picked someone night 2 who died so had to be gf, assassin, gossip. But turns out in the end ST didn't know no dashii posion doesn't move and I was poisoned after my neighbor died, and the demon killed them. Pretty lame
They ran snv before 🫠
SnV continues to be "Vortox and Fang Gu and two other demons that never enter the bag"
A lot of STs seems to love Fang Gu and Vortox
At least in livevoice
I've played a decent amount of games of SnV and I've seen 0 NDs, 1 Vigor, and everything else is an even split between Fang Gu and Vortox
I randomize the demon type on snv pretty much every time to avoid this (and because demon type is so important on SnV)
People should do this
Fully random bags are an overcorrection but like have a little randomness yk
I think the bag should be shuffled no matter what script you are playing
You can make minor balance adjustments after the shuffle
You can make major balance adjustments after the shuffle lol
Unfortunately a lot of scripts just can't handle this
The ST forgot about the “good can’t win when both twins are alive” rule, and thought it was “good can’t win while the evil twin is alive” (I think). So when I got pit hagged into the good evil twin while ceremad as the klutz, they showed me the already very suspicious No Dashii as the twin
Including SNV and BMR, in rare cases
It was a fun challenge trying to convince town to kill them instantly without being able to say why, but they had been dreamt as the no dashii already so it was pretty easy
Even if that was the ruling, the game would become unwinnable in the situation of a good ET
[9/22]: What's a specific Clocktower-related skill you've been trying to improve? (either as a storyteller or a player)
I've recently been trying to get better at making clean arguments in f3, especially when I'm still alive
my last 3-4 games where I made it fo f3, I was hard trusted, which is a nice improvement
How many of those were you the demon?
Making a defense that is strong enough to look like a genuine defense but not strong enough to prevent me from being executed.
that's a peak skill
Homebrew (or at least criticizing my friends awful Reddit homebrew)
Grim solving
but what do you think about the whisk
I mean I kinda just out evil when I’m in that situation :P
Whats really fun is I’ve outed evil several times as the demon so my group doesn’t know whether I’m the minion or demon hehe
I mean true, yeah, but this is something I might need if I'm, say, the Damsel.
I'm just bad at faking my demon playstyle as a minion.
going as a bluffless evil. I just always get bluffs early on into my games so I just haven't had to actually go bluffless other than like exactly one game where I was a poli-like homebrew character
as a player, it's acting good as evil - I can come up with bluffs and push info and stuff fine, but that doesn't help if I'm soul read and disregarded immediately, which a couple people in my group are scarily good at doing
as a storyteller it's keeping the game at a reasonable pace. I tend to take my time in the night to make sure I don't make mistakes, but on top of that I often end up giving town more time than I intend for conversations, so my games kinda drag on sometimes. (in particular the two 3-minion snv games I ran for mostly newish players, both of which lasted forever)
oh yeah, I need to work on my mnemonics to make sure I managed everything during the night phase
I usually leave the grim on its stand and walk back/forth from it at night since i'm short, but that has issues
I still forget to do things in the night sometimes. Need to go slower and double check I did every role
One game a while ago I forgot to wake the cannibal two nights in a row 😭
I often have a spectator who's STed before in the room with me, and when that isn't the case I'm a lot more prone to mistakes
my games with "Clocktower regular chilling in the corner reading a book" and "everyone from the other game buts in and tells me about BMR, and then I have to explain BMR to all of my new TB players" have vastly different levels of night phase care
soo now I tend to triple check everything, but that comes at the cost of time
actually I probably gotta make a "do not disturb during night phase" sign and stick it on the door
BMR meta tactics
Actually i'll change my answer "a bit":
As good, trying to find alternatives of pure grim solving when it looks like we're cooked, but it would apply mainly on longtext (call that socials if you want, i'd say that it's not really)
When being pointed as evil (no matter my alignment), trying to present a plausible world instead
Being able to more accurately count votes in final X in a live game with more than ~9 players when i'm evil, that's particularely specific but knowing when raising your hand will force an evil victory can save games
And trying to storytell, that's still on my to-do list
And because Nerdguy sent it right before i was about to send it, basically everything about BMR
As much as I have triple digit BMR games
I'm not even sure if i have double digit
I’m realizing that I need to be better(as evil) at swaying gossips, sailors, gamblers, moonchildren, etc to make the decisions I want them to
Case in point:Today I told a gossip to gossip clock 2, so we went to f3 as fast as possible and I insta-nommed the demon and won
(I got executed)
But uh
Sailor is hard
Gossip is so annoying to bluff
I think this is how you win BMR
as evil
"Yeah sure i'll gossip too and hmmmmmm i'm gonna gossip that i can't even find a good example of a "subtly" bad gossip"
Clock numbers
That's not even subtly bad
“Roles that cause execution survival” (what’s a DA)
It works
I'm already not particularely good with artist on a random script, gossip is even worse
1% of the time it works every time
“There are “X” execution survival roles in play(INCLUDING DA)”
It wins me games as good and throws off good as evil
I'm not even sure if i've ever been evil on a BMR game now that i'm saying that
Being evil on BMR feels so much harder
as a player: how off the wall can i bluff and still be socially trusted at the end of the game (as good or evil)
as a storyteller: general management of the noms phase, i feel like no matter what i do i’m still going too slowly
Oh
Also, wizard wishing
I’m trying to figure out the weirdest wincon I can get away with
😭
I love my wizard wincons
I have a passion for them
Most of them stem off of
-On the final day, Good wins if and only a dead player is executed. 1 good player learns this.
yeah I've recently been STing for a group of entirely new players and it's amazing how much more smoothly the noms phase can run when nobody has bad habits 😭
i had the opposite experience today
ran for new players, noms took forever and i had to continually remind them to stop yelling over each other
range balacing
not like intenionally reading as evil when good
but like
i feel like i just play differently when im evil and it should not be as jarring of a playstyle shift
The thing about range balancing is in a repeat play bluffing game it’s important that your actions and behaviors when:
Lying as good
Lying as evil
Telling the truth as good
All fall in the same range if you want to be believed in either of the lying situations.
Time to meta ye
I tend to not be that great at mechanical solves. I'm very much a socials player who can use mechanics to find worlds where a player I believe is good, is, and I tend to choose to believe those worlds until I can't build them anymore
This can be game winning because sometimes this just gives you the correct world but I need to start building more varied worlds since
- I do it when I'm evil alot
- It's better to solve assuming everyone is telling the truth and seeing where that starts to break apart, rather than assuming 1 person is.
Try to not HC d1
trust me, if you seen me play you know my playstyle imo
Trust my social reads more often
I am usually quite good at sifting through mechanical info and usually have a full and accurate grim as soon as the ST announces who won, but there have been many times where I trust the mechanical info over social reads and it means I push the wrong world and throw myself under the execution bus too often cause my group is very socials-based
Also I’m usually really good at social reads so it’s not even that hard to make such a significant improvement to how I play the game
Track vote patterns better
In f3 I want to be able to remember who actively pushed for/against the demon candidates' executions
Once in a custom I found the demon by solving for Godfather, realizing that none of the Godfather candidates had voted on an early outsider claim, and inferring that the outsider claim was evil. This is probably my best social read to date.
Honestly socials. I play almost strictly mechanically. Sometimes I do recognize the weird social stuff (eg. “Hm I really don’t like how this person is controlling the conversation” or “oh no evil person ever claims to me that way”) and then forget all about it
Just trying to trust my decisions and not overthink the ones I already made
After all, I always have a reason for why I made the decision at all
m, prolly game balancing stuff that players choose to do
specifically just wizard. wizard balance is difficult
That’s so valid
Wizard is such a nightmare to run in the best way
That’s the cost of flexibility
wizard is one of the most rewarding characters to run well
A well run wizard is almost always just a massive amount of fun added to the game
the first wizard wish i ever had was "i wish we were playing duck duck goose"
i don't know where they get these ideas from please save my eternal torment
One day wizard will actually be used to try to win the game
About half my group is ridiculously skeptical of wizard to the point that they won’t play scripts with it on
thank goodness ...
The big argument being if you play a wizard script you’re accepting that the game “doesn’t count”
I blame this entirely on bad wizard wish balancing because they’ll play every awful script under the sun
It’s not a great argument when they contradict themselves constantly
the same argument atheist haters have 🥀
although unlike Wizard, Atheist actually has an acceptable range of bullshit before the game just ends by default
Absolutely. Athiest rule breaks is mostly just shorthand for whatever you need to do to simulate a normal game
You’re not expected to do stuff outside the realm of possibility
With Wizard, basically any dish is on the table. And it takes an experienced chef to know which dishes are worth preparing. As well as an experienced Wizard to make reasonable wishes
pd-wizard and atheist-wizard are their own special brand of hell
when the plague doctor dies and I wish that all players are mad I'm a good Storyteller or their team loses
somehow better than what i did the one time i ran tpot
blargh I gotta ST a good wizard game to wash out the taste of the last time I ran wizard
i’m not running another wizard script without a co-st
which is a damn shame because i want to run tpot again
god put the fries in the metaphorical bag
pd wizard stinky icl
pd wizard lets you do loud shit which can be really fun
also you can use it to teach your players how to wish
i just give PD wishes to the Minion/Demon OR I just wish for a Minion ability to be in play
as in stuff like (S&S brainrot) ||Senator|| on TPOT
I was gonna call it peak but like it does nothing
yeah but its fun
so its a good PD wish (and game dependently actually quite useful)
bhamber once wished for it and it was very annoying to get his ass killed
it did out me evil though
cause there were 2 people in that game who would ever wish that
hey biscuits I have an idea
hi amy what’s your idea
I also would like to run tpot sometime and don't want to run a wizard script solo on botcu
but amy what i think you’re proposing is that i assist in running a livevoice game on botcu which requires interacting with livevoice players on botcu
i mean yeah
soo true
like the ST dies to demon n0
I actually have never STed livevoice and it scares me
and why would the demon kill the ST if they're evil
maybe if we did it as an app scheduled?
its a vigor game
ok but the reason why town executes the demon is because the ST wants avengance or something
actually this brings up interesting questions
can confirm
like why does the ST die in a leviathan game
does the ST just have an unrelated heart attack off screen
off script atheist
actually sorry, someone spilled the tea before the game starts
which was me and you. Evil twin ass game
would join if I was available 🫡
that game was peak though, me slowly realising the wish then testing it and me going "oh its fucking bhamber" as I did it
i would give it a shot too
#event-listings message
Correctly social reading - i.e. trying to figure out who's evil/the demon even without information pointing towards/away from them
Social reads aren't magic though...
Like some players are good at being hard to read
That's just true
It can come from knowing a player for a long time
But on here it's difficult to
I know
but I feel I'm bad at social reading even against average players
I have a player in my games who in a game of BMR nominated another player, he didn't state this in his accusation but what I saw him message his neighbor was "He gossiped about Outsider count, I've only ever seen him do that when he's evil"...it was such a wild thing to pick up on, but he was absolutely correct on it
iconic
some people are just good at that kind of thing
(and of course it helps playing with many of the same people for several years in a row)
'I see your eyebrows have furled for 35% of the day when usually it's only 30-32%, meaning you must be evil and 3% more furled than usual'
that almost unironically does sound like some games of werewolf I've been in lol
And then people try to tell me how wrong i am when i say "socials aren't real" after these kinds of noms 😭
it's mostly because that statement ignores the ones like these ones, lol
Who bloodstarred this and why
And a good player it's worldbuilding and finding social play elements that make sense to me - I tend to play mostly on mechanics, but that sometimes backfires on me bc (especially in larger games) I tend to get overwhelmed with what's happening which isn't super fun and so I'm trying to figure out how I can improve on that
as an evil player I think my big thing is working on my social play - I'm slowly getting better at it in small ways (being able to go bluffless as a Minion and being able to bluff entirely believable info) but I do think I have some things to work on
as an ST, it's not panicking or feeling bad about myself when a game starts "falling apart" (I've had a couple experiences like this that I'd rather not go into detail abt)
for that good part, play fyf. no one can solve it and it has some social accelerants which helps :3
Wait you literally signed up for the last longtext fyf which didn't fire :P
you might have to post a reminder later on
oh wait
we don’t have a 9/23 question yet
i thought you were reserving 9/24
Nope
same here but i’m accustomed to a question being posted at like 7 pm
I can probably post it now but that feels like cheating
Yeah same
that’s exactly how i felt when i did one a few days ago
you’re in the right place for talking about customs
True!
#custom-script-discussion is down the hall, to the left through the door with the muffled screaming
[9/23] What are the customs surrounding posting questions in secret ha ha just kidding!
true!
Wow….
jussst possssst it 🐍
The customs are that pebbles gets to post now
9/23
If you could convince every Clocktower player that any 1 thing is true, what would it be and why?
The first rule of the game is to be a kind person.
d3 at the latest
fourth, technically
Yes, but it SHOULD be the first rule.
although legit answer: customs/experimental chars aren't all that. theres still plenty of fun left to squeeze out of b3
(especially if you're bleeding new)
There are 47 trillion different cursed snv things to do
well you could add engineer to snv, but like other than that its perfect as is
@uneven field
I still think it's better with Widow instead of ET
“overtalking is a cardinal sin and every time it occurs it lowers your life expectancy by a year”
WHAT?
10 consecutive games of a robust script (letting the group organically figure out new interactions) is often much better than 10 gimmick scripts
Amy holding a gun to peoples' backs to make them play HHR:
also twin is fine on SnV y'all are just skissued
Goblin is still a thrall
Goblin is there to make damsel guesses
But my poor poor
baby, he's dying of lack of good kills!
build good bags and not bad ones
The fact that it's even an option is a problem.
you have the option to build bad bags on all scripts including tb
Good point, snv sucks and is unsalvageable and anyone who plays it is just a paid TPI agent
In all seriousness, ET good on SnV, Widow better.
when are they gonna start paying me
When you sell them the rights to CC
Based
You cannot fool me
I think most scripts can have bad bags tbf, but Vig/ET/clock is pretty sad
Early whispers and nominations are very important
[cerenovus voice] yes I can
Like even TB is robust to a fairly random bag, but it can fall through based on how tokens fall and where the YSKs get their info
So Vati is the Vigormortis with the Boffin-Alc-Cere ability who was originally the Kazali but got Pit-Hagged (Explains the setup text).
I'm just now realizing this
Or if you forget to add an outsider
(just ran a game where the evil team got chef/empath lasered because the Spy wasn't yet experienced enough to cast doubt on the info implicating evil)
!
That was totally supposed to be in the bag
Already in the bag 💔
x2
Alternating between #livetext-game with 4 whispers D1, 3 of them being HC & a D1 exe and playing voice with people playing more casually, and barely get a 2nd whisper, one being "i'm an info role" and the other not claiming anything at all, then struggle to get any votes on anyone. I can definitely say that there's one playstyle that i like way more than the other
I'm trying to get my irl group to play it sometime
Livetext sacrifices too much to get those early whispers
Yeah, like socials :3
I have constantly been in chats where it’s just “hi hc. Ravenkeeper. Bye”
A live text player would sacrifice their firstborn for those early chats.
There is… very little real value in that chat
Also that, I’m down 8 babies right now
There's already more than fighting to get anything better than "i'm an info role" imo, but socials aren't real so...
I'm learning a lot about livetext here
Lepakon saying socials arent real because he never reads anything other than evil 🤨
Except in that one HHR game
I have really long whispers in livetext because I want to but also I was last actively playing before people started thinking warp speed whispers were normal rather than them being a thing two people did
Most execution survival is not DA
And the one where he was the Politician.
This shouldn’t be assumed
Those are in fact the same game
Out of two lleech games i've played on longtext, i've lost both of them because the lleech host was blatantly reading evil
"Just get better" smh
Hey, that doesn't always happen! Sometimes the lleech host gets psycho killed
I often have to ping people back into chats because they leave so quickly when I have more to say
yeah I'm NGL I have no sense of how to play/write Lleech scripts
Nobody does
Fun and whimsy
also savant and math
the one Lleech game where I was like "oh shit this demon is threatening" is the one where I was staring down the heretic token
i have ideas but when i tried to write them down in a personwall it failed miserably
Nom restriction can help, I've heard. So monkey, Fearmonger, and Boomdandy.
IST is actually pretty good iirc
Monkey?
Nvm
OG
||Monkey Wrangler||
tbf thats really easy because its a teensy
which was actually a super tense game!! really solid actually
also it breaks one of the major rules
True you can put all 6 roles that lleech works with on it
savant
math
politician
???
true! Vortox and mastermind and.. uh... hm.
I mean, the Heretic-Lleech interaction is a nightmare to deal with.
Savant
Hey if they don't notice that a player who's defense is actively digging their tomb & in a librarian politician ping is the politician, that's not my fault
Still maintaining you didn't deserve that flip?
specs and spoilers will read this message and spontaneously combust (you said "tomb")
I'm not saying that, i'm just saying that there were ways to notice the signs
MIDNIGHT IN THE HOUSE OF THE DAMNED
I was kidding.
...You got the joke, didn't you. You reacted to the message. Wow, I'm dumb
Is that a || NUN || in a TOMB in a GARDEN at MIDNIGHT in the HOUSE of the DAMNED ?????????????????????????????
actually the Lleech becomes threatening when there are three of them
they all hosted each other
not even ||don||? :(

The value of SW isn’t only about the mechanical impact it has on the game. It’s a socials-based minion when a script is built well
(might be a hot take but idc, everyone must know that imp/SW doesn’t neuter SW at all)
It's the last rule so it sticks with players the most, not the fourth most important
Which seems very intentional and I agree with that decision
I know when I read it, having it last means it feels like it gets some extra emphasis
Yeah and there's also scientific backing to this
The last thing you hear sticks with you a lot more than the vast majority of what you hear
Hmm, didn't think of that. Fair enough
it always feels somewhat dramatic when I read off that final line, "Kill with grace, die with dignity" and I always enjoy it

I generally agree with this, with the caveat being that the 10% includes when a player is socially or mechanically confirmed and you're sharing to just them
How does it compare with the first thing?
eh, that has it's own problems
a whole town dumping their info onto one player that they should already be sharing publicly can be problematic in and of itself
a whole town: true
a select few players: that's fine
I forget which is more memorable but the first and last things are the two most memorable parts consistently
to reiterate the point though, there's no point in confiding in one player that which is best served telling the entire town, especially since "confirmed" players are hard to come by, and they don't happen on day 1, and past day 1 you're getting closer to the end of the game where sharing truthful info gets even more important
(as you can see, this is why trying to magically convince players of this is a fantasy lol)
Should the round robin come at final 5 then?
(right, but there are things that shouldn't be shared with the whole town)
I cringe at the idea of a round robin
the heck even is a round robin in this context
a player can share or not share with the town...the general idea is that if you're going share at all, you may as well be willing to share it with town most of the time
Basically you have everyone's roles and no lies unless extremely specific situations (+ evil players, ofc)
some players have this idea that on the final day, everyone should go around stating their character and info
oh okay
it's not something I've seen in a long time
It can be useful sometimes imo
but there is a very common meta that players should withhold their info for a long time, and it tends to cause people to dump a bunch of info all at once on the final day, during a time when they ought to be quite limited on time
people tend to underestimate how counterproductive it is for most people
i always felt like i was in the dark about everything in the games i've played, probably for that reason
In a significant portion of my games, i'm not entirely sure about everyone's claims and infos on final 3
yeah, this is one of the reasons why this meta is often really bad
Idt it's a substitute for sharing + acting on information earlier in the game (thus leading spending earlier executions more effectively), but round robins can genuinely help players organize their thoughts going into the lategame
yeah, the idea is that people should be sharing this more openly throughout the game rather than telling a handful of people and leaving it at that
especially in person when folks are new to each other, having an additional chance to match names/faces/claims is super nice
players are welcome to round robin if they'd like, it's just that it's going to be giving them less time to nominate and actually talk things out
sorry, genuinely I've been pinged into this thread and I have no earthly idea what it is, is there a script attached to this?
The way i play is usually to HC to almost everyone i whisper, so by ~d3 everyone usually has my claim with few exceptions
No
This is a questions thread
it's literally just "there's a daily question asked here"
fitting, I have many
uh it's largely script builders yapping about script/storytelling topics each day
and then everyone answers it
Yeah i'm totally a script builder here 😛
Sometimes we do stupid stuff like this.
the worst part about late game claims are the Savants or other complex info characters who wait until day 4 or 5 to dump a games' worth of info on the entire town, lol
Ofc i say that when are two longtext hybrid games playing a script where i was one of two creators
and yet, i'd probably feel hesitant to tell my information publicly/even claiming my real role at all because i'd feel like i'm playing against the meta and would be sus as a result
And it's both with the same script
I think if that information was circulating to a certain extent privately it is fine
which results in me overcorrecting and lying more than i should, resulting in looking sus anyway
Well you've got to show us the script now, right?
think that happened in a minstrel BMR game i played once, i ended up as the frame on the final day
mfs play trouble brewing like it's a damsel script and then lose for doing so
but that's kind of the point...what's happening is the info is being shared by a handful of people, excluding a bunch of others, who won't be privy until it until its too late to decipher it
Yeah, that's usually what i do. D1 whispers don't have my infos as i consult after whispers, D2 has D1 info, D3 has D1 and D2 etc
(Unless i'm claiming a role different to savant, which on the case of savant can easily happen tbf)
I think this is fine
information spreads well enough in clocktower
be the meta change you want to see in the world 😛 ...also, madness heavily relies on this
become unmetaable
Anyway cass, welcome to the circus
I mean, this is an example of it not spreading well enough
welcome, welcome
i always feel like there's this huge network of flowing info that i'm simply not a part of whenever this happens
what I mean is that even if the savant only gives the information out to like three people, that information will leak somewhat to the rest of town naturally
I've mentioned this before, but I've been on two different prominent stream servers where there had to be an in-depth discussion about hoarding info and how it often results in excluding people
I have very few chats that are simply exchanges of first degree information
either 1) it doesn't, otherwise there wouldn't be a need to dump the info at the end of the game, or 2) it does, which goes back to the point where you may as well just go ahead and share it publicly and not be cagey about it
spreading info through osmosis means you don't have to publicly be out for town to know the information
If I share it privately, there's a 33% chance of evil seeing it. If I share it publicly, there's a 100% chance of evil seeing it.
there is a savant, their info says the following, but we do not know who they are
and besides, what's the solution then? make it a rule that players must share information?
the percentage is actually higher
like, I get it, don't get me wrong
but I hope someone can maybe appreciate that on one hand, I'm being told the information will spread anyway, and on the other hand, I'm being told there's only a 33% chance of evil learning it 🙂
like, i'm pretty inexperienced with playing the game despite knowing so many characters and interactions and shit, and i just feel like i'd fuck up somehow if i didn't follow the meta, and then be blamed for it
that's genuinely the biggest fear i have when it comes to playing this game, messing up and being blamed, not that that's ever ACTUALLY happened before thankfully...
but there are cases where i as a player should be able to make the call to only circulate information privately
strategy isn't enforced by rules
for myself, I would seriously avoid any group that made it feel that punishing to not follow such a strict and limited meta
some of my very best games have included small cabals of privately informed conspiring good players
same...and I've seen those same exact games be a terrible game for someone else because nobody was sharing anything with them and left in the dark
this is true
or, it can be
can be, yeah, it's certainly not guaranteed
there is exclusion to a certain degree, this comes with the territory of conspiracy
but the game is really designed around the idea that most good players are sharing what they know...it doesn't mean people have to play it that way of course, and many don't, but it comes with both social and strategic downsides
a game is best off when everybody has something to do, if someone is being completely excluded by every clique then that is very very bad, and I have been that player, but there should be cliques
I think all things in moderation. There's reason for good players to lie, but when push comes to shove, at least in the mid to late game, it's best to out your info
Trouble Brewing has Spy on it and the evil team many times just simply starts knowing that which good is trying to keep secret anyway
Sects & Violets has an entire mechanic (madness) that relies on people claiming a character and the information that would be surrounding it
Bad Moon Rising has less explicit reasons for openly claiming, but implicitly, it needs town to be proactive and pushing for things
BMR has fewer reasons for lying as well!

people sometimes doesn't even..have them
