Heathens vs Easter v 3.0

A script with a single homebrew character. It’s a bit of a doozy.

Pagan (Townsfolk): If a Heretic is in-play, good Townsfolk become Pagans and learn the evil players and their characters.[+Heretic or -1 Outsider]

How to run: While setting up the game, before putting tokens in the bag, check if you have included a Heretic

If you have not included a Heretic yet, either:

  • Add the Heretic token to the bag, removing a Townsfolk token, or
  • Remove an Outsider token (for the Pagan’s -1 Outsider modifier).

If both Pagan and Heretic are in-play, then the Pagan ability triggers. On the first night, after the evil team get their information/act, wake all the good Townsfolk in the game up together. Point to each evil player in turn, showing them the character token for each. Then, inform them they have all become Pagans.

When running online, you would basically send each Townsfolk in the game a message that looks like this:

Jack, Grey, Tom, Jane and Maddie are Pagans
Annie is the No Dashii
Rodger is the Cerenovus
Jean is the evil Nightwatchman

If the Pagan is in play, but the Heretic is not in play, nothing happens. Do not wake the Pagan up. The same applies if the starting Pagan is drunk or poisoned.

More Info

  • If the Pagan is in-play, the good team know pretty much everything. They know the evil players & their characters. However, they must keep this information a secret. If the evil team realise what is happening, the Demon can kill themselves in the night and win (due to the Heretic ability).
  • If the Pagan ability activates, good Townsfolk become Pagans. They therefore lose their previous character abilities.
  • A Pagan can be in play without a Heretic, or a Heretic can be in play without a Pagan.
  • Only good Townsfolk become Pagans. The Drunk, Marionette, Lunatic, Damsel, Heretic, Mutant & Bounty-Hunter-turned-evil Townsfolk do not.
  • The Pagan either guarantees that a Heretic is in the game, or takes away an Outsider.

Clarification: Technically there should be a jinx between Pagan and Marionette matching the jinx between Marionette and Ballonist, Huntsman etc. The Huntsman x Marionette jinx also currently has a weird error. If you’re trying this script, you can probably figure it out.

If an evil cannibal ate a pagan would they learn who the evil team is

tough bone
#

That’s pretty funny

#

But I don’t think so. ‘Good Townsfolk become Pagans and learn the evil players & their characters’

#

Evil Cannibal isn’t a good Townsfolk, so would learn nothing

#

You probably want to kill that Cannibal pretty quick, though

#

Because they are going to keep not waking up after eating characters

brisk monolith
#

Yeah they'd be able to sus out a pagan game quickly

this script looks incredibly fun

Hang on, if it's a LM game then the demon can't kill themself, so what is stopping the pagans from just outing themselves

#

Townsfolk don't know it's a LM game (Scarlet Woman and Marionette are quiet)

#

And a ST can run it so that LM will kill themselves if Pagans out/if minions request so

No pagan, but there was a heretic in play

Went pretty well!

I was getting ready to set up an event for this script, when I noticed something that should probably be addressed:
There's nothing about the Pagan's ability that says all Pagans are supposed to know each other. Obviously they should know each other given the example cases given, but that's not actually part of the character text.
Legion doesn't need that explicit text because Legion registers as minions and wakes together for minion info anyway so know each other by default, but there's no reason the same would be true for Pagan.

#

I think all that needs to be changed in the character text is this:

If a Heretic is in-play, good Townsfolk become Pagans, know each other, and learn the evil players and their characters.[+Heretic or -1 Outsider]

tough bone
#

You could be right. An alternative fix would probably be:

If a Heretic is in-play, good Townsfolk become Pagans & wake together to learn the evil players & their characters. [+Heretic or -1 Outsider]

I try to stick with 135 or under if possible. If I can push it to 125, I probably will.

Was there a Pagan in play?

This script looks so fun! I'd run it if I were a more experienced ST, but for now I'll just lurk around and hope I can catch someone else running it :D

Only 1 of them outed anything to me so I was a bit confused the whole game

@ Zets - now that BotC scripts supports homebrew characters, can you upload this there?

Hey I totally could

Good idea

I ended up making a set of tokens for this script, I’m going to run it for my group online soon and then hopefully at the next convention on the next few weeks subject them to it there!

I'm thinking of making a teensy script with pagan and leviathan on it

#

With the homebrew rule "After day 5, the Leviathan may choose for good to win instead"

#

Imagine a script with Pagan and Atheist

#

I think it would need a jinx like "if the storyteller is executed, the heretic loses their ability"

#

but it could be really silly

midnight lance
#

Don't think Atheist would need jinxes

#

A good storyteller would just do that without them

willow cliff
#

well the point would be so that the win conditions are clear

#

sure, the storyteller in an atheist game could arbitrarily decide to invert the win condition and make good loose when they get executed, but that wouldn't be very fun unless it was communicated to the town first

#

Oh i made a mistake

#

the jinx would be "if there is no atheist in play and the storyteller is executed, the heretic loses their ability"

#

The point is so that the Pagans don't instantly notice there is no atheist and decide to execute the storyteller to 'lose' the game and win with heretic

#

Although upon furthur thought, if an evil player always bluffs atheist, then the pagans wouldn't know if the atheist is real or not

The Demon’s neighbours still become Pagans, unless the starting Pagan is the No Dashii’s neighbour, in which case the Pagan ability does not activate

Hello Peeps, the last few weeks im busy creating fancy versions of scripts I like. So here you all go 🙂
Its based on the current 3.0 version! 😄 Enjoy and thanks Zets for creating this wacky script!

@tough bone do you have a new link for the pagan icon? I tried building the script in the script tool for my homebrew repository, and the image link appears to be broken

As Easter is coming up, I remembered about this incredibly fun script again and was sad to discover the Bloodstar links for it does not work anymore. With the Bloodstar also about to be removed, wanted to preserve an easy-to-share link somehow for my own purposes and uploaded it to the official script tool. Link here: Heathens vs Easter Pagan icon by Jazck from Deicide on Easter uploaded to ImgBB by me. If Zets provides his original Pagan icon, happy to update with that version. I took the liberty of adding a Pagan/Marionette jinx per Zets' write-up and preserved the old Baron/Heretic jinx in a Bootlegger rule since I think the script might break a bit with the new one.
