TLDR: A script based on everyone's favourite meta-subverting/appreciating movie, 'Cabin in the Woods'!
Each townsfolk in this homebrew plays homage to a character trope from Cabin in the Woods, and other popular horror movies, complete with on theme abilities. The Pawn (the character that often triggers the events of a horror movie) starts the game choosing one of the evils in play. The Wallflower (a character that normally on the outside-looking-in) watches and learns who is choosing who.

This homebrew introduces two intuitive mechanics, allowing room for some interesting design space. These rules are 'fables' in the script to allow for easy reference.
**Following **- Many characters can choose to follow another player. A classic horror trope - do we separate or do we stick together? Some characters get info from this interaction, others protect, and some evils even hunt characters using this mechanic. The Father (an evil), for example, picks a player and chases them. If they catch them, that player dies - but only if they are alone. Another player can **follow **them - helping them get away!
**Warning **- Many characters send out or receive warnings about the activities of themselves or other characters. A scream in the night, or a guttural growl can alert you to a friend in need or a threat you might be facing. The Skeptic, for example, receives three **warnings **each night telling them that a character has been active for each. At least one of these warnings is true BUT if an evil has chosen them, all of them are true! It is pretty hard to be a skeptic when evil is staring you right in the face!

This homebrew is designed to invoke flavour and theme, though not at the expense of fun and fairness. My hope is that you will enjoy and engage with the creative process, and perhaps join me for a play test or two.

I love the design of this script!

Im GENERALLY super against 3rd party team win conditions, however this script might have done it pretty nicely with having a super specific thing need to happen before the outsiders can win on their own

I think the biggest concern that comes with 3rd parties in Social deduction is how often it comes down to begging the 3rd party to let your team win in the end

#

Making it so that they lose when evil loses already is a great way to alleviate that fear

#

I think play testing is gonna be the best way to see if it has any issues. Lots of testing it since its such a new thing for Clocktower

#

the lack of 3rd parties is one of the reasons I love clocktower more than other social deduction games (Along with several other reasons) so it needs to be handled with care

Yeah, its a challenging win condition to actively attain - Firstly they have to hope/orchestrate 3 failed deaths (excecutions and/or kills). Which means townsfolk are probably not dying. Then they have to kill townsfolk (or have a townsfolk register as an outsider)

Thematically, I want the outsiders to be able to win, because in the source film, they are saving the world with their human sacrifices. To do that all the townsfolk need to be dead, which makes the evil go away until next year! I think it fits mechanically, and works within the design ethos of the outsider character type (good players who help evil) - but gives the outsiders something juicy to consider, and tools that can help get there.

Ive currently set the game up similar to lil monster, with an extra minion. Im not sure if this is the right way to go about it because town needs to kill all of them. They have some tools to do this, but it is challenging just from a numbers perspective (evil has a lot of killing tools as well). Im considering [+1 Evil outsider] or something similar instead of the current setup changes.

Politician and Goon are kinda iffy for me but I think they are pretty well executed and risky to go for the betrayal win

#

Think the Neutrals in TOS tho, they are really rough to win with and its awful when it comes down at the end begging for the 3rd party to side with you to win

#

which I find so boring

This could be fun to try in text form 👀

@gray ibex how have playtests gone?

Hey Jimothy. Pretty interesting. I think there is some thought to be put into 3 evil minions or 2 evil minions + 1 evil outsider and a host of other minor changes.
