Recommendations

How do you go about getting a recommendation letter from a previous professor, can you get a recommendation from your counselor? What if you didn't speak to much to that professor, would they be willing to give you a recommendation. What if you want to use the same recommendation for various schools? How do you go about doing these things? This is for Graduate School BTW.

I would ask professors around, atleast to the ones you talked or took recently a class with

The careers development services also gives out recs

And you can ask someone in psych faculty for ones too (ask th dept)

You can use same recs for various schools

They wouldn't check (not that they have a way to check)

so basically just email anyone and just hope I get a recommendation.. but I would get one from the psych faculty and from career developmental services, also how would I go about getting rec from other schools do I just email those professors?

Not anyone, professors that you recently took

I still have the question on how I would send the same recommendation from one professor for various schools, because I been doing the application and it says "Please list the identities and contact information of at least 3 individuals who will be submitting letters of recommendation on your behalf. If you’ve attended a university less than two years ago, we ask that at least 2 of your recommendations are provided from professors. All other recommendations should be provided from employers, supervisors, professors, or other individuals who are able to comment on your professional and educational goals and potential. References from friends or relatives will NOT be considered."

So basically on the cuny & private school applications they ask for the prof email and the prof has to upload the rec not you

that sucks 😦 cause then if I am applying to more than 1 school they need to send it more than once?

Yup 😭 but the ones I’ve asked have been cool with it since it’s just them uploading the same one a couple times

Because I think they just upload it once

and once you send it to different school

it goes toward them

such a tedious process, ok so I have to finish all the applications then email the professors and ask them to do it more than once

idk it asks for the email cause they send it and each school has its own application

Are you talking about undergrad cuny or grad cuny?

yeah but there application have different logins and application portals although its very similar they are different idk why

I did some psych and some mental health basically all the cunys (bk Hunter city college, sps) & st Francis

which they will if they are willing to write recs

That sound horrible, the grad program I applied for just straight up told me to put the profs email and contact number

if u graduating in spring u should start ur apps & ask them during the break so they can get on it instead of having to do it during the busy spring sem @granite bear

Cause I was able to put former bosses for my recommendations

literally asked some random ones that ik would respond not completely random but my eng profs I rm some said psych prof would be best

you can put supervisors or professors anyone that can vouch for ur academic skill so like if he worked in a lab the lab supervisor could, etc

just curious- how would they write recs if they haven’t gotten to know you personally? o:

They would just ask u to send ur resume

And write it based on that

& ur grad statement / cv

hmm do u guys think that it’s better to ask a nice psych teacher whose class u’ve had no presence in or the psych faulty to write one for you?

tbh it only looks like a lot once u do one the others won’t feel like much the only stressful part was waiting for the recs to be done

No not too much after I did one the rest were pretty similar info wise

thanks!, I did them throughout the summer prob why it didn’t seem bad but I also had classes then too so I dnt think it’s tooo terrible
