#Inf costs for merit recipes

Please. I am begging you. Reduce inf costs for recipes from merit vendors. I realize there needs to be a price, but one (one) purple set at 50, on top of the 1875 merits it requires, also runs 253,125,000 inf. Over a quarter billion inf for one set is screamingly expensive, and I say that as someone who plays almost every night. For casuals, or people with lives, it's a pipe dream.

Could probly drop a 0 off the end of that inf cost and be fine. Makes it kind of hard though, when farming is a thing

errant dune
#

Farmers gonna farm. I farm myself. There will never not be farming. But if the idea is for people to play the game and enjoy themselves, pricing casuals out of the best gear isn't the move.

Honestly, I'm fine with recipes costing only merits, not both merits and inf. To me, inf is for the ah.

#

To clarify, I'm saying this in the context of buying from merit vendors.

timber urchin

Yeah — why the influence? I don’t think it’s a good idea to price out people who are actually playing content. Makes no sense to make the stakes a backbreaking experience (literally and figuratively).

As a casual , I'll never see that much EVER

I could definitely get on board with either dropping the Inf cost significantly, or getting rid of it all together. I already think the merit cost is still too high for this server, but that's an argument for another thread/day.

The merit costs I think are generally reasonable. The Inf prices though were set by the OG dev team to drain years worth of stored up inf that there was never anything really worthwhile to spend on. Since that's not a situation that happened here, there's no need to keep it.

I'd be fine with lessening/removing the inf cost of merit rewards, players aren't as rich on Rebirth as they were on Retail, but we'd need a new inf sink elsewhere if we did. As someone with a couple billion inf spread throughout multiple characters I want to be able to dump large amounts of inf somewhere in the game. Preferably something more cosmetic so newsupes aren't left behind on the power scale.

actually that was the core strategy all along. casual players can play, but if they want to PVP or do +4x8 they'd need to put more effort into it.

I say this having made my first full 100 mil on captian shock last week. She's Lv44, it's easier earning millions with the right tactics. granted I probably would have had several hundred million atm if not for spending it on crafting badges and WW badges.

I'd say I play casually. I mean how long did it take me to get this close to finishing my completionist run? several years?

if you want hundred millions, the quickest ways are as follows:
1: PVP recipes, as in join us for weekly PVP, this week I got 4 great pvp recipes. craft and convert to the levelless procs and sell, it's an easy 40 mil.
2: L50 White-con recipes, they sell to npc stores for 100k each roughly. so 1000 of them is 100 mil.
3: Rare Salvage
3a: AE Tickets roll for random rare salvage, you're looking at 500k to 1 mil each. so 100 to 200 is 100 mil.
3b: just do mishes and sell all rare salvage on ww and all whites at the store

#

just by playing so far I have randomly got drops for 3 of the enhancements I need in my build at the right levels, where if counting over all; I've probably had a good quarter of the recipes I need drop on me(at the wrong levels). while you are earning your inf you are bound to come accross some of the recipes you need.

But the AH isn't really a sink. Sure the AH takes it's cut of the transaction but most of the inf that is being spent in the AH is going to another player. Without anything to actually spend inf on it's pretty worthless. Why should I care if I get a couple hundred million inf selling a super rare purple if I'm already swimming in it? I'm more likely to want to trade a purple for a purple since I can use purples but I can't really use inf except in the AH where values are completely arbitrary.

I agree with removing the inf. I definitely disagree that the merit costs are generally reasonable. They're still way too high for a server with this size of population. Even with 2 Super Packs a month, you're lucky to get enough merits to buy 2-5 recipes. That's ludicrous. Even cutting the merits in half would still be "unreasonable". Of course, as always, this is all subjective. Although, there's a reason (aside from salvage space and alts) that people make a multitude of accounts here. They want more packs for more merits. But I digress at this point. I think a good start would be to remove the inf cost for sure, but a drop in merit cost would have a much more significant impact here. You can always farm millions of inf in a matter of hours. Merits take days/weeks to be able to buy more than 1 recipe. You can't even buy 1 recipe by doing 1 task force. That speaks volumes.

keen bronze
#

there are other inf sinks available I guess

keen bronze
#

lol the inf with merits was one of the ideas there

keen bronze
#

also, fully kitting out a character isn't supposed to be a fast and cheap thing.

turbid apex
#

I agree that during the original run of CoX, kitting out a character wasn't supposed to be fast and cheap. However, with Rebirth's changes to the VR drop rates and changes to time-based locks for running tip missions and gaining Alignment Merits, the "fast" part at least seems to be a thing now.

keen bronze
turbid apex
#

I usually have enough merits and inf banked up that even back during the original run of the game, I got to where I kitted out enhancements in a day.

keen bronze
#

well you gotta save up to do that

#

thats the playtime

turbid apex
#

So the way I read this suggestion is just what's on the tin: let the merit cost be the merit cost; don't add inf costs to merit costs. I think that idea has merit.

keen bronze
#

well, it's upto the devs, if the market is flooded with inf they'll have to replace it with something else.

turbid apex
#

The market would already be flooded with inf if it wasn't for many inf-havers actively countering that. One example: some crafting IOs (spending the inf) and selling them for practically nothing on the AH.

keen bronze
#

i do that lol

Money shouldn't bar folks from having a kitted character on a server of less than 100 folks at any time. Please remember that the better suited the folks are, the more things are possible to do with a lesser number. I get my stuff with Astral Merits and money, but why does it need to be so much influence, if we are participating in end-game things? There should be room for folks to float that influence to the lesser characters so they can have the fun of having a powerful character, and those on the way to trials to make the problem better by having a more versatile fighting force. Allowing acceptance with less gives us more excellent abilities to improve the high-end experience. In fact, I would argue that Secret Task Forces are there, so why need money at all? That requires patience and teamwork.

keen bronze
#

I have 1800 merits, lets see what the prices are, it is really time to start kitting out shock

#

<- has barely looked at the prices (I know here I am commenting when I've only seen them at a glance)

keen bronze
#

maybe it's because I'm not 50 yet, but very rare recipes aren't even listed. and ATOs are the only recipes that cost inf as well, and only 16.7 million each which isn't much.

#

if I remember correctly most very rare recipes cost 1 to 30 hero merits.

#

it's usually the cheaper way to go

#

typically only the procs are 30 hero merits, so instead I grab a 1 hero merit purple in the same set and convert to the proc as needed

I detest PVP. Any game. Got burned on it back in the days of the MUD. I have done minimal crafting in this game b/c it's alway been so damned "expensive" in terms of whatever resource is being asked for.

Other games, like SWToR and STO, I craft my brains out b/c it's not nearly as expensive. I used to craft in EQ, prior to discovering CoH during its heyday. Just not this game. I'd love to explore that system, but I really am a casual player and spread the time I have out among a LOT of different characters to experiment with diff ideas and costumes.

So finding a better way to handle the crafting system costs...I think that might pique the interest of players like me. Obviously, there's at least two of us who think prices are too high...so I find your argument about PVP kinda ... empty.

Just to give you some feedback. As well as anyone debating the costs of this stuff. in game terms, obviously.

keen bronze
#

the arguement wasn't just about pvp, it was about running pve missions on +4 levels x8 players, for that you really need to fully enhance with the sets that will fix your weaknesses.

#

the crafting costs are not even being discussed yet in this thread

#

the topic is discussion about the inf cost of purchasing Some recipes with merits.

#

and, it's only some. for example only ATOs and purples.

#

in fact theres no inf cost to use merits to buy any other recipe.

#

ATOs are already crafted and catalyzed. so thats probably why they have a cost.

keen bronze
#

one thing I've observed is Purples are not available to buy with merits at all at L47 nor L48, even though they could be slotted at that level, and the merit window allows L47 players to buy upto L50 recipes but does not include purples.

#

same with the hero merit window. it's a complete lockout till you are 50

#

unless you buy off AH.

#

I honestly think L50 purples should drop when a player enters the L45 to 50 range

#

they should be visible in merit vendors at L47

turbid apex
#

We're getting off-topic for inf cost for recipes here, however please note that side-kicking with level 50 characters and doing lvl 50 content enables receiving VR drops. This happened on my lvl 37 character yesterday. Also, my understanding is that VR enhancements cannot be slotted until the character is lvl 50, and this is likely why VR recipes are not available to purchase at vendors until lvl 50. However, any level can be bought via AH, and I'm alright with vendors being different from AH in this regard.

#

I just verified with a lvl 47 character using a VR enhancement in my SG base storage: I can't slot that VR on that lvl 47 character.

keen bronze
#

ah interesting

#

back to the topic at hand, the costs I see for VR recipes is 22.5 million inf + 150 merits. and for ATOs it's 16.75 million inf and varied merits. thats not a terrible amount.

#

everything else has no inf cost.

keen bronze
#

ok, pvp recipes cost 20 to 40 million inf each with merits, like 400 or 500.

#

but, pvp on this server is friendly. even in our disagreements

#

if people like, you can often just ask if anyone will help you farm pvp recipes. and they'll go drop armor and let you take them down a few times

If you have a 50 that can solo a pillbox, you can go into RV and often be the only player there. That'll let you convert all to you faction and you'll get 50 pvp merits for it.

#

If you're willing to play the converter game, the auction has quite a few pvp recipes for sale at reasonable prices.

primal blade
#

I don't think you get merits for soloing RV. I have almost no pvp merits, and I have all the badges for RV.

#

(I think for the actual merits you have to squish the AVs?)

echo imp
#

You do get merits for the PVP zone events, it's pretty small compared to what you get joining a team on PVP nights though.

primal blade
#

Let me put this simply. I have 7 of the pvp style merits. As noted, I've gotten ALL the pillbox badges. (And rthe mecha ones, cause). Haven't gotten all the AV ones, I'm not built to solo. Those merits came from Warburg. I don't think RV gives you anything for a pillbox, unless you have to solo-solo without even a mecha backup.

dense nova
#

I think you get it for all 6 pillboxes and running out the timer with your side in control of the zone.

keen bronze
#

I think you get gladiator merits in RV when you win and then defeat an AV or more while the timer is going. not sure on that. also defeating players during that timer. players always drop gladiator merits though, not sure if they drop more when the timer is ticking or not.

primal blade
#

Players yes. AVs, yes. Pillboxes... not to my knowledge. Basically, when you defeat things while in control of the zone (specifically the two minutes of extra bonus 'congrats you won' time) you get extra points and those become merits. The pillboxes don't count, or count so little it's not a factor.

#

But that's off topic. I agree with the post that the inf costs are a little high, considering the merit cost too.

keen bronze
#

considering the costs, as posted, they aren't really that high, say; compared to some incarnate components which can cost you 100 million inf per craft

keen bronze
#

lets recap the current costs:
ATO recipes: 16.75 million inf
VR recipes: 22.5 to 28.125 million inf
PVP recipes: 30 to 40 million inf.

this conflicts with the original poster who claimed a single purple set costs 253 million to buy from the merit vendor, where at maximum an entire purple set (1 at 28.125 mil and 5 at 22.5 mil comes to 140.625 million (more than 100 million less than it was made out to be).

pvp recipes do cost a bunch though a full set of those would be quite the sum. but thats to encourage pvp on the server. but given that the going rate for crafted pvp procs on WW is 40 mil, people aren't really making much, in fact they're doing a service and selling it at cost. other non procs sell for less I've seen em for 20 to 30 mil or there abouts, I've even seen some pvp enhancements and recipes sell for 5 million inf just because people didn;t want to bother wasting converters.

most of these recipes can be afforded after sitting in on a farm for 2 or 3 runs at lv50.

the discrepancy is, if you rush to Power Level to 50, yeah you wont have many merits, you wont have much inf either, but then again at 50 it's easier to earn inf too. and people here are kind, they'll give you inf if you need it.

#

if you don't PL to 50, you'll pick up things you can sell over time like rare salvage and occasionally really good low and mid level recipes. it takes time to sell yes, and you might need to announce it or offer a price in rebirth general butyou can usually find a buyer within 2 weeks for good stuff. by the time you get to 50 you can amass like an easy 100 mil with other spending. if I hadn't spent on crafting badges, I would have had 300 mil by 50.

#

and even though I came short of the goal, I ended up with like 205 million inf and through clever means I fully slotted and boosted to +5 the next day after getting to 50.

#

sure with 205 it wasn't enough, I needed to use superpacks as well. but with the 2000 merits I had I was able to get half my build slotted, then the merits from superpacks finished it off. I did have to farm 10 mil and did run 4 million short, so I suggest like 220 million to fully slot a build, minimum.

#

tip: only buy pvp recipes with merits if you have to. alternatively try to buy a cheap pvp recipe or enhancement on WW and convert it. I did have to buy 1 and only 1 pvp recipe with merits, and only because sigh... I wasted like 40 converters trying to convert a shield wall to the Defense only enhancement. i got that shield wall by converting a cheapie pvp enhancement out of set. tbh it's easier to get the proc than the Defense enhancement.

#

i got most of my pvp recipes that I actually slotted just from the random reward for attending pvp, oh also, no one will make you fight, you could just watch. it's also a perfect chance to speak up and say "I need a pvp recipe badly to slot my build, can someone drop armor and let me take them down?"

earnest oyster
#

pvp recipes are quite easy to get they drop all the time in warburg, this may be ultra boring for some but just dual box in a pvp area and beat yourself up for glad merits. Influence when you first start out is a royal pain in the ass but once that toon hits 50 its quite easy to grab the cash. The community here is great you need anything if we have extra and most of us do we can help you out. May not be your first choice but roll a tank, brute or scrapper first so you can farm those goodies then the rest of your toons will be set and never have to worry.

keen bronze
#

correct, there is also a chance to get pvp recipe drops from pve enemies in warburg, but not as common as from players

#

id say every 3 to 5 player defeats is usually a pvp recipe drop.
