Croatoa enemies have a big variety of spectacular attacks that are really reskins of powers already in the game. I propose this: On completion of the defeat 333 of each faction badges you are rewarded with the following:

Firbolg: Pumpkin fire blasts (Pumpkin head is from a halloween event and not included in this) for fire blasting power sets.
Tuatha de Dannon: Hurl Roots. Like Hurl, and Hurl Boulder lifting heavy things and throwing them shouldn't be just limited to rocks.
The Cabal: Cloudy Lightning for lightning power sets
Ghosts: Ghastly Dark Blasts. Blast your enemies with the souls of the damned! (also possible for the aoe powers in other dark sets perhaps)
Red Caps: Knives! Big knives, small knives! For all the stabby sets (Broadsword, Katana, Dual Blades and adjoining sets.)

There is not a method to add requirements for CustomFX at this time. It's a hole that has caused me a bit of aggravation over time because I really like the idea of power customization unlocks.

You can actually earn Red Cap Knives for DB by killing enough of those bloodthirsty lawn gnomes.

Aw man that actually makes me sad. @wind summit

#

I kinda want to use stuff like that to tie going to specific zones/getting weird badges as a source of character enrichment

#

But it's its not a thing that can be it's not

Don't count it out entirely. It's just not a thing that is currently possible within the system today. Our programmers have surprised us with what they can pull with this code, so maybe one day 🤞

Could you link availability of a pool set or of powers within one to a badge? So a toon that wasn't yet capped out could choose Croatoan Lightning as a pool power when they levelled, and level capped characters could pick them at their next respec, provided they had the badge for slapping around enough of the right enemies?

#

And once you have caused enough Fear effects, you get a badge, and then you can pick from the Badge Pool the power that lets you summon as your minion one of the universal terrors: a flaming clown spider

That'd be an interesting twist: respec pools. As in you can't pick them unless you've unlocked something on the toon, and if you're 50 it's locked off... but at the same time if you use a respec it becomes an available pool you can select off the bat, meaning you can have a vastly different build post-respec, more like a comic-book-style retcon than anything. The system does grant powers via badges, we know... (so you get say a little +10end power buff from this badge, but it has an entire pool that "must have taken dummy-power" to select meaning only people with the badge can access it)

Ooo. that might be fun.

I don't mind having power pools that can be unlocked via certain in-game actions, but I really don't like the idea of requiring a respec to access them.

I don't see a reason to keep them sealed behind respecs, but if they're linked to a badge it's possible a person won't get that until they've got most of their build done, so they need to be available for respeccery, so that a toon can be retconned in to the laser ninja that shoots lightning now.

That's exactly what I meant, if it wasn't clear. It isn't locked behind a respec, unless you get the badge at say level 50... but in any case once you have it you can use the full pool like any other, so if you blitz this theoretical badge at say level 5 thanks to a helpful team, then you can use it all like any pool, but if you got it late a respec will have it all available like any pool from the start. And that means it's a unique twist as it means you can have some very unique builds as they're getting powers not everyone has but anyone in theory who plays the game enough can

#

So the fact that you murderized 333 of every croatoa type for some reason, and did the tf? That geas badge now gives you a special croatoan power pool!

I think the OP more meant that the other hunt badges in Crotoa grant you power FX. Like how you get the "daggers" from those garish gnomes. Or you fight Council as a gun-toter and you can steal their gear. So anyone with Fireball can toss Pumpkin Bombs and go all Haunted Horseman when they smashed enough pumpkins. Made the deer fear you? Huck Stumps instead of boulders when you Hurl. Something for power wielders to hang their hat on as prestige earned. As sort of parity for the Unlockable Rewards in Weapon Customization. Where the only cost to access your reward is a trip to the Tailors and some inf.

An awesome idea, though already noted 'not yet' because the engine doesn't... but one day. But some neat pool with those fx unlocked by badges or what, that's doable now.

#

...maybe.

An unlockable enhancable pool is a bit stupid broken and serious power creep...

tired coral
#

That depends on what's in it! If the powers in the box are all pretty reasonable, then the disruption they'd cause would be mostly limited to cross-archetype powers, like letting a scrapper huck an exploding pumpkin, or a blaster summon a flaming clown spider. wouldn't it?

#

would it actually lead to people having more powers to slot, or would you still cap out at the same number, having to forego things from your more normal pools to get the new ones?

Scrappers can sling fire through their Blaze Mastery.

The number of total powers is static. You can in theory take a half-dozen pools, and have like 2 of your primary and secondary powersets after all.. broken is all in how it's balanced. Remember, during the game's run regen was the broken one, getting nerfs every single issue without fail to 'rebalance'... and that was there from the start. Having unlockable pools isn't broken, we still have incarnate stuff in the game after all. Personally I'd love the unlockable fx as originally suggested, it's the next step from unlockable costume parts, but sadly the engine isn't quite there yet. But pools is a neat offshoot I think, that might be doable in engine as is.

The Prestige classes (Kheldians and Arachnos) already have unlockable pools. It might be possible to modify those mechanics.
