As I play tour guide for Desdemona, I think how nice it would be if she and all "Rescue" toons were marked blue or something to stand out more.

That sounds like it would be a nice ease of use change, if you ask me. No-one did ask me, but I'm answering anyway and none of you can stop me, mwahahahaha!

ah well it would be useful yes. Blue for blueside and maybe black for redside since red is already used in coloring the arrow if you have only few health left. Though I think coloring the aarow on the map according to how good your health is ist sort of useless - never looked at the map arrow to check the HP of my Char 😄

A follow up brainstorming question for you all… since people responding here seem invested in things like mission map goals and map icons…

You know how the reveal power shows the map and when you’ve beaten almost all the map the last spawn will show up in red or the last glowie as a white starburst…

What are some things that would make missions easier but in a limited way for you as a player to help identify mission objectives? And a follow up question - would you ever take a power for these things? If you can, please break down your answers in a fine grained manner… saying “show me everything on the map” doesn’t help in this exercise.

(And no. This is not for a new feature in the immediate if ever. It’s more related to a longshot notion I’ve never been able to finish even drafting a proposal for…)

I'm actually okay how the mission map works. a different color for the escort/ally arrow would be practical but I wouldn't take a power for that. Other than that I'd just sort of get rid of the HP-colors on the character arrows because I've never payed attention to them if I wanted to see if my team mates or me were alright 😉 Then the colors like red, orange and yellow can be used for something else.

i'd rarely be able to spend a power on that kind of QoL thing but they'd be sweet as temp powers or vendor-able powers

i have no idea about the technical feasibility of any of these

a short lived power that made glowies louder, or at least increased their noise radius, for some of the really big maps with glowie hunts

for those multilevel office or base maps with branching elevators, some way to know if this floor has been cleared of enemies and/or glowies. in UI terms, maybe a really short lived pet, like those red/blue wisps, that is colour coded to show the level status, green for clear and safe, white for unclicked glowies, orange for dangerous enemies, blinking white/orange for both

I don't even use the 'free' Reveal power, so I wouldn't allocate a power slot to something like this.

However, it would be nice if the 'you've almost completed this mish' auto-reveal worked more consistently. It always seems to be a mish with a hard-to-find last group of mobs when it decides not to function.

I do like the OP's suggestion of making non-combat escorted NPCs a different colour on the map. I say non-combat, because it's important for combat NPCs to work like PCs so that their colour indicates health.

honest veldt

Ahh well yes forgot about that but on PCs the color change isn't really needed as you can check your own or your teams health in the team window

For this thought experiment or brainstorming, don't worry about the practicality or game balance aspect.

These are both excellent ideas and along the lines of things I'm curious about gathering together in some notes for a long term side project. Again this may lead to nothing. BUT really curious how people use maps, navigate and search for mission objectives, etc. and possible ways to interrupt this with tools that provide temporary advantages if tied to a power of some sort.

I play on a large wide screen, so I always have the map open and usable. When there are a lot of arrows dancing around I do find it useful to see the teammates colors change, as that gives me a better idea of where the damage is coming from better than just the team tab. Having escorts or prisoners be a different color just makes them pop out a lot easier. I would love it if the glowies showed up on the map once you are within hearing range, as I tend to play with the volume down (sleeping baby in the next room, so I can't do headphones either). I do use the Reveal power, and it only causes issues when you don't remember which area you already searched, so maybe if it was tweaked, or had the option to show the map but with the shadow overlay instead would be nice.

I'm not exacly on a large wide screen but started having the map open as soon as someone mentioned it could be un-docked from the nav bar 😄

#

I do like they ideas posted here as QoL improvements but I don't necessarily need them that bad...well not yet that is. So I wouldn't pick them as a power pool. I'd maybe craft them if they were made recipes like those Temporary power enhancers. But other than that...

omg no that would be too much for me. I do have several tabs for chats though.

Also, once you find the layout that you like, save it as your default window settings. Saves so many headaches

#

I have it as macros for my big screen or small screen for when I multi box

honest veldt
#

I don't even know how that works - I would like to have a config file that saves my Chat-Tab-Setups so I don't have to re-create that on every toon

#

The windows theirselves ain't that much of a hassle for me

It sets them all

Also - we shoul prolly discuss this on #rebirth-general 😄

I do like they ideas posted here as QoL improvements

To be clear, and trying to not give away too much, these would not be considered as blanket universal QoL improvements, but overall things that would be beneficial play advantages connected to something like a power, temp power, mission or arc specific power, etc. (Will keep the exact context close to the vest for now.)

Really appreciating the ideas that have been shared. It does help flesh out a modest list I've been adding to for a while.

or even a recipe to craft it like those Temp power modifiers

But in the end it would sort of be a QoL thing just not universal but bound to a temp power or something like that 😉

weary bone
#

But crowdsourcing ideas about how y'all use maps and what may make your live easier, even if it feels like cheating now and then, is really helpful to get a broader base of ideas related to this proposal.

honest veldt

Understood 😉

You've already all brought up at least two things that were not on my list in any form whatsoever.

more random thoughts

  • glowies get louder as time in mission increases? maybe adjusted for map size?
  • temp power that briefly makes glowies glow more, maybe with a big aura that could be spotted when the glowie is stuck behind crates etc
deft stream
#

How about a mission where you need a barcode scanner to find the right crate in the warehouse? You have a temp power that you have to run up and use on each crate to find out which is the glowy!

honest veldt
#

Err no

weary bone
deft stream
#

What, it's like the Cure Lost mission, or the wave scanner for the clockwork.

honest veldt
#

Yeah but it worked on every lost or every clockwork - but searching for the "right" glowie in a warehouse full of crates is...idk

#

I guess that kind of mission will be as popular as a defeat all on a huge map or escort that can be damaged 😂

weary bone
#

That wouldn’t be fun? It’s like the untold sequel for Raiders of the Lost Arc. The adventures of a lonely government warehouse clerk!

honest veldt
#

Then it may come with an Accolade "Logistician"

#

😄

#

And that accolade gives you 5 slots in recipes and salvage 😂

#

Otherwise most people might just skip that mission 😄

#

And ofc there should be a version of this quest for blueside and redside - at around Lv 20-25 range so Praetorians can take it after joining one side 😄

deft stream
#

Not going to lie, but as silly as that sounds you would get a lot of people taking it on to get those slots
